Photos and new trackpad--novice question

I am having a terrible time getting used to this new trackpad that zooms, rotates, etc. I had an old PowerBook before. I do a lot of Photoshop work, and somehow I keep zooming photos or rotating them when I don't want to. I looked at the trackpad preference illustrations, but I still don't know where to keep my thumb when I am editing photos. Should it not be on the trackpad at all? Is there any way to disable these new functions to make the trackpad like the one I've been used to for so many years? Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much for replying. However, I looked at the trackpad system preference and it does not give me the option, I believe, of turning off rotate, pinch zoom, etc. in the two finger section. I tend to rest my thumb on the trackpad so I can click or double click using my thumb. Photoshop requires many actions also that require you to use both fingers at once. That's where I am running into so much trouble. Any other suggestions would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!

  • Delete photos and news items

Is there any way to delete unwanted photos?  I have looked around the gallery app and can find nothing.
Also, is there any way to delete news items from the News app?  They just keep accumulating.

Not 100 % sure if this is what your loking for, but on my news widget once if you scroll through them all (until icon is empty) then touch the icon again it will say "widget settings".  Then  you can add or delete the number of articles sent to ya (or from where), or how long you keep them.

  • Does anyone know a good photo gallery that I can use in contribute and easily add photos and new galleries?

Looking for a good gallery that can be easily updated by the user in contribute. All the ones I have found are too complicated for the general user to add/edit photos

Not that I know of, but you definitely need a relational database for this, and FileMaker is the best there is.
It might be worth asking them if they already have a template for your purpose.
Of course, they also make a simpler and cheaper version called Bento:

I have never used it but it might be worth a look?

    2. Does the APP cover battery replacement?
    3. Has Apple discontinued the making of iPod photos?
    4. If so, will they still replace my battery or will they just send me a completely new iPod?

  • Questions on photos and storage

I have a few questions about photos and storage... If you can just answer one of these, that's fine and thanks for the help!
How do I see how much space my iPhoto photos are taking on my hardrive?
I have Time machine which backs up, but concerned that I'm getting too many pictures.  When I do "Get Info" on the hardrive it says 640GB Capacity with 254GB used. I'm assuming that includes all my photos, and that Time machine only backs up and is not the active storage for those photos?
What is advisable for available GB space on this size computer?
I have my photos on the hardrive and the time machine, is it also advised to have in a cloud-based storage system to be safe? Or some other place.  Just checking what others do with this.

1 - it is a really good idea to start new threads with new questions - threadjacking a year old solved thread on a totally different subject will not provide the best coverage and the best answers
2 - Do NOT uncheck the option to copy imported items to the iPhoto library - it is a really, really bad idea that will create many problems for yo and has no advantages of any sort - see the user tip on file management in iPhoto for more details - iPhoto and File Management
3 - take the time to learn how to use iPhoto and the concept of using a database for management photos rather than a file based system like you are used to - it is much different and much more powerful - but there is a learning curve and a different thought process
4 - yes you can always export anything or everything from iPhoto for use on any other system - see the user tip on exporting for details - Exporting From iPhoto
5 - always remember that you never access your photos directly - iPhoto totally replaces the finder for managing your photos - see the user tip on accessing photos for more details - How to Access Files in iPhoto

  • HT4889 how do i transfer my itunes account (with all my music, photos and ipad apps) from a macbook pro to a new macbook air

how do i transfer my itunes account (with all my music, photos and ipad apps) from a macbook pro to a new macbook air?

thanks but exactly how do I do this.  I tried setting the new macair up using migration assistant but for some reason not everything has come through.  I bought a thunderbolt cable to improve the transfer rate.
Now my question is how do I transfer the iTunes folder.  I have authorised the new macair for iTunes and am within the 5 computer limit.

I have loaded Lion on my MacBook and the new trackpad functions work only on one ordinary account or user and not on the admin account. The trackpad preferences are well set. What can I do?

iCloud should still help you reduce some hard drive space. Just select "optimize" in the icloud tab in Mac Photo App preferences.
Granted, not the same as completely offloading your library to a back-up drive at your location.
    Good Luck!

  • How do I move Elements 11 photos and catalogue from iMac to new iMac both running Yosemite?

I've been researching best way to move my photos and catalogue from my current iMac to my new iMac.  I'm using Elements 11.  Both iMacs running Yosemite.  I know I need to deactivate the current computer's version of Elements if putting it on the new one runs me over the license limit - I don't think it will.  I have read enough to be pretty sure I have to NOT migrate the Elements 11 program to the new iMac because it won't work properly - I'll have to reinstall it from my installation disc on the new iMac.  So far, so good.
Now, I want the easiest way to get the photos on the new iMac, in the same folders, and preserve the catalogue and my current ratings on the photos.  I am unclear on how the catalogue works with its backup and restore function.  Should I move all my photos in their folders in exactly the same locations on my new iMac before installing Elements and trying to restore the catalogue?  I read about the ways to restore the catalogue and I am unsure about whether it just looks for the pictures in the places it expects to find them (which will be the same if I copy everything on to the new iMac first), or whether it restores the pictures where it thinks they should be (in which case I should NOT put the pictures on the new iMac before restoring the catalogue or I'll end up duplicating everything).   Also I have read - and been confused by - the options about restoring catalogue in new location, old location, etc.  I don't want my folders changed.  I have my pictures stored where I want them and I want to keep them there - and I'd prefer not to add some extra layer under the basic My Pictures on my iMac.
I have stored the most recent version of the catalogue, with all photos reconnected, on an external drive.  All the pictures in the catalogue have their meta-data associated with them.  I hope that this will allow me to preserve ratings.  Going through thousands of pictures to find the really good ones again is a time-consuming mess.  When I went from Windows to Mac 3 years ago - I lost the catalogue and all ratings.  When I upgraded from Elements 9 to Elements 11, I lost the catalogue and all ratings.  I do NOT want to ever go through that again.

I appreciate your answer and agree that it is correct, but you told me nothing I did not know.  There is an Elements technical paper which says this in much greater detail, but still does not answer the questions I was trying to ask.
The catalogue file seems much too small to include my thousands of photos.  Are you telling me that it has magically reduced the size of all those photos - from 64 GB to 33 GB, and added the catalogue information - so that the photos will just appear out of nothing but that smaller catalogue file when I restore catalogue?  If so, will you explain the options of same location, new location, new location with existing file structure, etc?
I understand installing the program.  I understand that I should backup the catalogue (I've done it).  I understand I will use restore to restore the catalogue.  I found all this on other sites.  I need someone, somewhere, to explain to me if I need to copy the photos themselves to their new location before I restore catalogue - or not.  And which option in restore to use.  I thought I explained this in my original question.  Any help on these questions about matters I do not understand will be appreciated.

  • HT4436 originally my kids used my apple account, now they want there own.  Can they keep there photos and music and move it to a new account?

I want to create a new account and transfer my photos and music to the new account.  How can I do that?

Your talking about the famous AppleID divorce
There is no way to "move" music, apps, or photostreams between iCloud/AppleID accounts easily, but there are some ways to maybe salvage everything they want and get it to their individual devices.  I'm going to assume that each has an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, and that you all have one or more computers with iTunes (macs or PC's, shouldn't matter).
In any case, this isn't likely to be a quick fix for you, so clear a couple of hours in the evening and grab a beverage of your choice.  Here are a few ways to manage the divorce:
Separate iCloud (ie, contacts, calendars, etc) accounts for each person, Shared iTunes Music/Apps:
This approach allows each person to have their own device backups, plus their own address books, calendars, etc, and it allows everyone to share the apps and music that has been and will be purchased. This will also mean each has their own photostreams as well.  With calendars and photostreams, you can create "shared" versions of each so you and they can collectively contribute and modify the calendar, and can collectively contribute to a shared photostream.
The great benefit to this approach is that all of the music and apps that have been purchased will continue to be available on all of the devices.
The disadvantage is that with the shared iTunes account, everybody is sharing everybody else's gift cards and/or money that is in the account.  Monitoring it is a manual process.
    To setup this scenario:
Create a new iCloud account (ie, new AppleID's) for everyone, including yourself.
In the iCloud settings on each mobile device use the new iCloud account (ie, AppleID) for that person.
Use those same iCloud credentials for the iCloud settings in each person's account on the computer.  (Note that if you do NOT use separate accounts for each person on the computer, this method will not work for synching the iCloud stuff, just the iTunes stuff.  I highly recommend you create user accounts on the computer for each person).
On your mobile devices, in the iTunes and App Store settings continue to use the "original" AppleID under which all of the music and apps were purchased.
In iTunes for each user account on the computer, continue to use the "original" Apple ID, just like on the mobile devices.
For each person's photos that they wish to keep, make sure that they are currently in the mobile device's camera roll (just as Winston suggested).
Now the device's and computer user accounts are all setup.  When the mobile device's are synched to user's (or the common) iTunes app, all of the music and apps will stay, and all of the photos that were previously in each user's camera roll will still be there.
Separate iTunes Accounts, Shared iCloud Account
This approach allows each person to have their own iTunes account for music and apps, but will keep all of the iCloud stuff (like contacts and calendars and photostreams) identical accross everybody's devices.  This is particularly useful if the kids get their own gift cards and are not amenable to sharing with their family and you want to continue to have identical address books, calendars, and photostreams.
The main drawback to this approach is that it is possible that each individual will lose access to some music and all purchased apps.  That will depend highly upon when the music was purchased.  ie, was it purchased before or after Apple went to a digital rights management (DRM) free model for music.  All purchased apps will technically be lost, but sometimes its still possible to "keep" those apps via iTunes and your device will continually and annoyingly ask you for the credentials (ie, the original AppleID) under which the app was purchased.
Another drawback is that the free iCloud storage account is likely to be enough to backup all of your devices (if you have more than 1).  Therefore, you will likely have to purchase a larger iCloud storage plan.
    To setup this scenario:
Create a new AppleID for each person for use in the iTunes Music/App store.  Remember to keep your original AppleID that was used for all of the purchases to date.
On each mobile device, in the iTunes and App Store settings input the new AppleID for each user.  On one of the devices (you'll have to figure out on which one it makes the most sense), continue to use the original AppleID.
In the iCloud settings for each device (and the computer accounts), continue to use the original AppleID.
Now you must setup new iTunes databases on the computer for each seperate user.  The only way to do this is to have each user have a seperate account on the computer (again, mac or PC, doesn't matter).
In each user's iTunes app on the computer, input the iTunes store credentials that match his/her mobile device that you setup in step 2 above.
On the computer, move all of the music that each person cares about into his/her separate iTunes database (ie, import the music into iTunes by whatever method you choose).  The exact method for this is dependent upon whether its windows or mac, but basically, find the actual music files on the hard drive, and then import each of them into iTunes for each user.  You want each user to setup their "new" music database on the computer.  This is what the mobile device will synch against.
Once complete, synch each mobile device with each user's respective iTunes app.  You MUST use separate iTunes databases at this point.
If all of the music was purchased post-DRM (or is DRM-free for whatever reason), then this method will result in each user having all of the music that he/she wishes.  However, if some of the music has DRM, then your success here will be a crapshoot.
Photostreams should all continue to be shared and collective since they are attached to the common iCloud account, not iTunes.
Separate iTunes Music/App Account, Separate iCloud
This is the ultimate in "every man for himself".  The advantage is the each person has their own free iCloud features (including the all-important backup) and each has their own iTunes account.
The disadvantage is the same as "Common iCloud, Separate iTunes" approach:  individuals may lose access to already purchased music and apps.  The photostreams will also be broken apart, although you can setup shared photostreams for the future.
    To setup this up:
Create new iCloud/AppleID accounts for each person (except for the original user).
In each person's mobile device, use their new AppleID for both iCloud and iTunes Music and App stores.  One person keeps the original AppleID and continues to use it.
Follow the steps above for creating new music databases in each user's account on the computer.
Synch each user's mobile device with their respective iTunes database.
OK, that's what i have for you at this point.  I'm happy to answer further questions on this and help you figure out how to do what you want to do.
    Thanks

  • New Computer and New External Hard Drive - why do folders and photos not show up?

I replaced my desktop with a new laptop and external hard drive. I transferred photos from the desktop to the external hard drive. Lightroom 2 only shows the mapped hard drive, but does not show any folders or photos. Can Lightroom be set up to house all the photos on an external hard drive rather than using space on the internal laptop hard drive? Do the photos and folders need to be imported again into LR2? The photos are available for viewing when you search folders, but they open up in Photoshop not LR2.
What should I do to configure imports to be housed on the external hard drive? Is this wise? I will not be able to hold all the photos on the laptop internal hard drive. Photos used to be JPEG and DNG from D700. I am starting to see NEF. Does this replace DNG? Besides RAW I also need to have JPEG for other family members to access photos on other computers connected to the network. I am watching a tutorial DVD and slowly picking up how this all works. Let me know if I am not using the correct terms.
Hardware: HP laptop w/64bit, Buffalo 1TB RAID hard drive.

Lot's of questions here. I'll do a few.
Yes Lightroom can work with images on external drives. As many drives as you want.
I assume from what you said in your original post that you have had lightroom installed on the old desktop and now wish to transfer your catalogue and all files to the external drive and work from that.
So what you would do would be to transfer the entire contents of the lightroom folder on your old computer, except for any images, to the same location on your new laptop. This would include the catalogue files and any folders containing previews. Then you would copy all your image files to the new external hard drive. When you open lightroom you can then select the catalogue you copied from the old computer and open it. In the the folder pane in the library module you can then right click on one of the folders and select "locate missing files". Then you just need to point light room to the new location of your images. You may or may not need to regenerate all your previews.
I store all my images on external hard drives and I even run the catalogue and previews from the same external drives. I have backups of all my images of course. I have light room make backups of the catalogue to the C drive on my laptop so that the original and the backup are stored in different locations.
NEF is the proprietary file system for raw images used on Nikon cameras. DNG is a universal raw file format developed by Adobe. You can convert your files from NEF to DNG on import, but as Lightroom can read both types of files it is not necessary. At this point in time if you are using lightroom you should get similar results from either type of file.
To store imports on the new external drive you can you tell light room to copy the files to the new drive or you can manually copy the files to the new location and have light room import From the current location.
    Hope this helps
    Gordon

  • Where are my photos? Old and new missing.

I'm not very tech savvy so I apologize in advance. But I recently signed up on icloud.com. Before this, I had to change my appleID in the photo stream (on my phone) because it wasn't matching. All is well after that except all of the old photos I had taken before the email change are not showing up in my photo stream (can I re add them?). ALSO I took a few pics after the change to test it, and they are not showing up on icloud.com. Is there something I need to do? Do they take a while to load? (its been about a half hour and I've reloaded the site.) Is there a place they show up where I'm not looking or should they be an icon as soon as I sign in?
Again, I'm sorry for the novice questions, but any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Another question I may as well add here. How do I change my name in icloud? It has my old last name... I have changed it under my apple ID and it shows the correct one there but will not chnage in icloud. Its also been changed on my computers main system... I read a question about the same thing where she said she had to change it through mobileme? I have never used this but when I go to the site, it says its closed and directs me to icloud? Most confused.

  • Moving photos and associated tags, etc. to a new computer

I have just updated APE-7 to APE-11 on my old computer which is running Windows 7.    The transition went well.   All photos and tags moved seamlessly to the new programs format.   I need advice on how best to transfer all of that to a new computer which is also running Windows-7.    You can think of the new computer as a clean slate, other than the fact that I installed APE-11 on it as well.
Question 1:   Should I begin by manually transfer all photos from the "My Pictures" folder on the old computer to the "My Pictures" folder on the new computer prior to using the "Restore Catalog" function or does that automatically happen when I use the "Restore Catalog" function within APE-11 to transfer Keywords and Tags?
Question 2:   I would appreciate it if someone would provide a link to an Adobe document that might give a detailed explanation as to how to use the "Restore Catalog" function, to a new, computer.   Or, perhaps a detailed step-by-step description of how to accomplish it in a way that all Keywords and Tags will remain associated with each picture.

All your questions are answered here
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/backup-restore-move-catalog-photoshop.html
You need to perform a backup in PSE7 and then move the backup you create in PSE7 (which includes photos and the catalog and associated files) to the new computer, then restore.

  • Does aperture vault update just add new photos and information?

I am wondering if the Vault function when updated will just add the new photo(s) and new adjustments or replace the entire vault. I have already copied the entire library as a back-up on a different external. Was planning on just manually updating the files but wanted to try out the Vault. The information is unclear that it only updates NEW photos and info while keeping the vault and just adding.... Any answers would be great. Thanks...

    Seattle,
I think I understand your question, but I got a little fuzzy after reading this:
The information is unclear that it only updates NEW photos and info while keeping the vault and just adding....
Anyway, when you perform the "Update Vault" function, Aperture does replace the vault.  It updates the vault such that it reflects changes to your library since the last time that vault was updated.  With a large library, but only a few changes, the vault update is pretty quick.

Why do you need to access your email?  To reset the password?
If you're trying to change the password, you don't need to go to your email.  If you know the answers to your security questions, you can reset it without using an email, as explained in the first section of this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5787.  If you don't, you can contact Apple for assistance by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click More Products and Services>Apple ID>Other Apple ID Topics>Lost or forgotten Apple ID password.
