Photos app replace sky?

In the new OSX Photos app is there a way to cut out a sky and replace it with another image of a more dramatic sky. Presumably this involves a tool to select the sky, and perhaps a layering facility .... Thx, Gus

Not that I know of. I had the same problem which was solved by accessing the files. I used this method, which is actually mentioned in another thread-
http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/how-to/how-to-fix-iphone-camera-roll-crash-and-phot os-turned-to-other-in-itunes/
Now, I was going to test a theory, but it involves restoring your iPhone.  I WAS going to do this, but then I found the method in the link above, which was much faster.  My theory is that it might be a corrupted/damaged photo that's saved in Photostream.  I was thinking that, maybe if you reset your Photostream through iCloud, then restore your iPhone from a backup, it might work.  Again, I didn't test this because the method in the link works in minutes.

  • Looking for stock Photo app replacement

I have all of my photos organized on my iMac by year and event, something like:
    2013
    ├── Dads_Birthday
    ├── Christmas
    ├── Fathers_Day
    ├── Memorial_Day
    ├── Miscellaneous
    ├── Mothers_Day
    └── Valentines_Day
Is there an iPhone photo app which will allow me to maintain my directory hierarchy, and also provide the sorely need search capability that the stock Photo app lacks?  Will iPhoto for iOS allow me to maintain my directory hirearchy, and search for photos?

It's really stupid not to have a search feature -- iPhoto on the Mac does.
Send feedback to Apple and let the developers know. Here is the feedback form:
    iPhoto Feedback
right now, it is really the best strategy to organize photos in iPhoto on your mac and to sync the organized albums to the IOS devices.
    Regards

  • New photos app (replacing iPhoto) not syncing properly

Since installing the new OS X Yosemite 10.10.3  to iMac and ISO 8.3 to iPhone 5s and iPad3, not all of my photo albums and photos in various albums are syncing..... any hints?? I also installed the latest iTunes 12.1.2.27 too ! I have rebooted all devices too....
    Thanks Schooner

Same issue here. Photos taken on my iPhone show up on my iPad and vice versa, but nothing new shows up in Photos on my Mac. It’s perpetually stuck “preparing items”, ostensibly for syncing to the cloud, but it never seems to get unstuck. I think it worked for about a day after uploading my 53,000 photos, but as soon as I deleted some of my now redundant date-organized “iPhoto” albums it got stuck again in syncing (apparently trying to sync every single photo AGAIN) and hasn’t worked since. I would  prefer to use Apple software, but I’m about to declare defeat.

  • New Photos app on a mac

    Hi everyone
I have downloaded the new "Photos" app ( replacing i photo) on my Mac
How do you make Photoshop ( in my case PSE 13 ) the default editor?
I had it set up with i photo , when I clicked edit it took the photo to PSE 13 automatically
    Thanks for your help
    Larry

You can't set anything for an external editor in Photos, at least not in the current version.
(you would have to export the image out of Photos before you can edit it in pse 13)
Your sure you don't still have iPhoto in your Applications folder?
If you do, you can still use it..

  • How to replace sky when there are trees in the photo

I have several photos taken outdoors with a dull sky. I also have several sky shots to supply the blue sky; with or without clouds. I know a couple of ways to do  that --as long as the horizon line is clear, such as roofs, etc.  My preferred method is to use a tool; e.g., Magic Wand, to select the sky area and then copy/paste a blue sky image using Ctrl+Shift+V command. This makes the copied sky inserted into the original image and I'm happy with the results.
But when there are trees or other bushes between the camera and the sky, problems begin.  No matter how carefully I try to include all the "holes" in those trees, the end result contains white spots where the selected section failed to follow the tree "holes".  Anybody know how to fix these types of problems?  I am somewhat familiar with layers-- which I have tried to use to solve this problem.
    Using PSE-12 on Windows 8.1
    TIA,
    Pete Grant

    Pete,
There are several ways to do this. In my experience the Alibony technique works well. You will be able to use your "good" sky pictures:
Watch Lesson 12: Quick Colorless Sky Replacement | Alibony Lessons for Photoshop Elements Episodes | How To Videos | Bli…
As I pointed out to you on June 5, 2014, this is how I do it after watching the Alibony video.
Open your picture (A) (File>open), and open the replacement sky picture (B)
On the sky picture (B), go to Select>all from the menu, then Edit>copy to place it on the clipboard
Go back to your picture (A), then Edit>paste. The new sky (B) should come in on a new layer
With the move tool, use the corner handles to reduce the size of the sky (B) to cover the old sky on (A)
In the layers palette, set the blending mode of (B) to darken
Set the foreground color chip to white
Get the Gradient tool out of the toolbox, and drag a foreground to transparent, linear gradient from below up to the top of the tree line, while holding down the shift key.
With a soft white brush, at reduced opacity, gently paint the horizon a bit, as we want the horizon to be a tad lighter than the rest of the sky.
If necessary, add a few clouds with the Return to Eden set.

  • Is iphoto for iphone designed to replace the regular photos app?

When i baught iphoto I expected it to accuattly replace the regular photos app i was really excited to get it and when i did wow not at all what i expexted from apple

Well i baught it for many reasons but one of them. Was that i needed a refresh of the photos app i have had every iphone since the beggining and it bored me so when i saw iphotoit seemed that way like a newer way of seeing your photos while having awesome editing tools. The tools are really cool but was hoping it to be less lagy and to actuatlly replace the photos app At least that is how i saw it

  • I really do not like the new Photos app.  My iPhoto app is disabled in Finder.  How can I go back to iPhoto?

My system just updated to OS X 10.10.3 and now Photos has replaced iPhoto.  My iPhoto has been disabled in Finder.  I really DO NOT like Photos.  Photos are no longer organized into "Events" and my Events labels are gone.  I also am not able to share photos via e-mail.  I tried to update iPhoto through the App Store, but got the message that it is not available in the US.  Then I got a message that said it was temporarily not available.  How can I get iPhoto back?

now Photos has replaced iPhoto.  My iPhoto has been disabled in Finder.
No, Photos did not replace iPhoto. It did not disable iPhoto. You updated to 10.10.3 before updating iPhoto to version that was compatible with Yosemite. That is why your older version is disabled.

  • How do I find a photo in new iOS7 photo app?

Can anybody help with the new Photo app on iOS7?
I have about 5000 photos taken around the world over the last fifty years. With the old Photo app, if I wanted to find a photo taken in (say) Argentina it was easy - just go to Places view, zoom to Argentina on the map, zoom to where I took the photo, and then click on a red pin. The map was a fabulous intuitive tool to easily find photos.
How do I do this now? The only way I have found is in "collections" where I have to try to remember what year I took the photo then squint through pages of minute thumbnails. I usually give up without finding the photo. Is there not an easier way?

I rang Apple support today about this issue. After a great deal of polite argument with a senior support person, Apple have agreed to exchange my iPhone 4S and iPad 2 for reconditioned replacements that still have OS6.1.3 on them, and so still have the Photo Map.
They accepted my argument that they should have warned in their own description of OS7 that Photo Map (and Wikipedia search on Spotlight) had been removed.
I am therefore off to the local Apple Store tomorrow to pick up the reconditioned items.

Downgrading is not supported. This is a user-to-user technical support site. Apple does not respond here. Submit your feedback directly to Apple using the appropriate link on the Feedback page:

  • Capabilities of Photos App and Aperture

I see a lot of discussion about the new Photos app as being a replacement for Aperture, but most of these discussions seem to ignore many of the key capabilities which make Aperture important to many professionals. And the idea that many of these have been removed but will reappear sometime in the future is ridiculous--nobody could run a business using a tool like that. Are you supposed to go out of business until the time in the future when Apple reintroduces the feature you depended on?
I'm also a little skeptical about how "modern" the app is and what a "streamlined interface" it has if it lacks many key features that already existed in the present software and which professional photographers and heavy Aperture users counted on. It's easy to "streamline" an interface if you just remove functionality. What many of the "reviewers" do not seem to understand is that it could take a year of more of heavy work to reconstruct an existing Aperture library with all that it contains because it is not just a hierarchical collection of pictures with keywords.
If you've been looking at Photos, maybe you can fill in some of the gaps in knowledge of features.
--Will Photos retain the edits of Photos in an Aperture library? Pros may have tens of thousands of photos (or more) with edits done over the past 8 years. Suggesting all of these need to be redone is kind of ridiculous. And why would any photographer ever trust an Apple product again if a corporate move resulted in that!
--If some "tools" are missing, then all of them might as well be missing as far as importing an Aperture library since you wouldn't really know which of your tens of thousands of pictures which had been edited were affected. You couldn't trust the "versions" in your library as some would be missing some of the edits. Is there a list of which "tools" are missing? Almost all of them are pretty heavily used by large numbers of people.
--I hear that the "Curves" tool is missing. What? This is one of the most heavily used tools of all, and one that was added to Aperture because of popular demand. What happens to all the edits done with the Curves tool? Do they disappear, making the library of edits useless? What possible reason would there be for removing something that important?
--Does Photos feature a Web journal which allows collections of photos to be output as Web pages to be shared with clients or others?
--Can I exports groups of files in any size and format (RAW, jpeg, TIFF, PNG., etc.)? You have to be able to do this for the product to be of any use to a professional at all.
--Can I take advantage of multiple monitors to do things like show sets of photos and controls on one monitor and a full-screen image on the other?
--I've hear the flags feature is gone. Why? What happens to all the images I've flagged through the years for one reason or another? Are pros supposed to go through 100,000 images they have stored in their library and flag them all again?
--I've heard that "Stacks" is missing. For professional sports photographers, that is essential. You take bursts of images, you want them stacked on import so it's easy to pick the best from a burst and quickly get rid of the best. Why on earth would this be removed? It was one of the key selling points in early Aperture marketing and a heavily used feature.
--Does the new app show the focus points, hot and cold areas, etc. on the pictures if so desired?
--What happens to books, smart albums, Web journals, projects, folder, albums, etc. One heck of a lot of time has gone in to creating all of these.
--Can I search using any metadata, keyword, etc.?
--Can I customize my display to see the metadata I want in a particular situation. I certainly don't want to see all of it, but there are key fields which may be especially important.
--How long would it take to "import" an Aperture library of, say, 500 gigabytes, into Photos? Would this would require another storage medium to store the new library as well as the old? I'm a little wary here, as the Aperture to Aperture 3 upgrade took 24 hours or more for many people.
--Is iCloud storage of photos really practical for professionals who may have libraries of a terabyte or more? How exactly would all of this information migrate into the cloud? Who's got the bandwith for that?
Anyone who could do a proper comparison of Aperture and Photos, from the perspective of a sophisticated Aperture, and not just gush about how it's an improvement on iPhoto, would be much appreciated. I haven't been able to figure much out from what I've seen so far.

The app is in beta and we're not allowed comment. That's standard policy. What you can glean from reading around the web is the same that we can. My read on what I've seen: It's a step-up for iPhoto uses but for Pro users it's time to look elsewhere. It's not a robust Pro tool.

  • Cannot upload photos to internet sites with the new Photo app (10.10.3 Update)

I'm not a huge fan of the redesigned Photo app that came with the 10.10.3 update. So, I can no longer upload photos from my computer to websites with this app. It's like the pictures don't exist when the window pops up for what files you would like to select. I have had to work around by dragging the photos out of the app and to my desktop, then upload them via the pop up window from there; that works just fine. Now I have duplicates all over my desktop cause I need them so frequently. All my photos and albums do seem to be in the app correctly, I just can't access them from other programs and the Internet. I run the latest of Firefox. IPhoto is still showing on my dock too, does it need to be there now that it has been replaced with the Photo app? I havent tried opening it, but I do know I cannot select any images from the old IPhoto when trying to upload to the Internet, the app doesn't exist in that situation. Even beyond upload to third party sites on the Internet, I had the same issue when I attempted to put my logo in to Pages to create a binder cover last night. I had to go do my work around again and drag my logo out of the program to the desktop. I have restarted the computer several times and have shut down nightly since the new update. What is wrong with this app?

    Seems like a simple question
    How exactly are you uploading?
And after you stated that you did not understand this simple question you answered it
And of course until you answered no one had any idea how you were doing it - there are many ways including many incorrect ways so in order to help we have to understand what you are doing - many times the answer is as simple and providing the correct method to replace the incorrect method that one is using
And iphoto of course still exists and is usable on you system - Photos was added - iPhoto was not removed with the upgrade to 10.103
You are not "forced to use Photos - in fact many people are not - I am not yet sure if I will or not
And the discussion on using the media browser is not at all irreverent - in fact  it still works virtually exactly the same as with iPhoto - which is why I referenced it of course
And you spent so much time on weird and incorrect dribble that you failed to answer another critical question
what happens that you can not upload them?
WE can not see you and can not help unless you actually provide details and all requested information - you stream of incorrect statements and editorials not only do not help us help you, they create a major barrier to helping you

  • Problems with the photo app

so recently, a day after updating to IOS 5, i was using my camera to take pictures at an event. i was using the camera from the lock screen and snapping with the up button. well as i was taking pics i would look at the pic, as one normally would. after i took the picture, the photo was perfectly clear no problem i was happy with my photos. about an hour later when i went in to view the pics, my camera roll was all glitchy. When i would scroll up or down there was a huge lag. looking through the albums, there were whole rows of blacked out squares where my pics should be. it looked like the pics had gotten corrupt. the biggest problem is when i clicked a picture to view it, it was super blurry. As i mentioned previously, the pictures were clear. normally you select a picture, and you have that second where the app refines the pictures. My phone/app was no longer refining the pictures so they were just blurry. so i restarted the phone hoping that would fix the problem. nope. i restored it to factory settings nothing.
some other symptoms include, not being able to attach a photo, either to messages, email, or facebook. when i click a photo and delete it, if i select another photo it will display the pic i just deleted. sometimes when i select photos the photo app will just crash and take me back to the home screen. my diagnoses is that my pictures have somehow managed to corrupt the photos app, but i am really not an expert. also if i try to back up my photos, from either iphoto or itunes there are no pictures at all to select.
i have called apple, they are giving me a replacement. but, hopefully this helps other people because i did not see anything out there related to my problem. i hope the next ios update can fix this issue, if it is one.

I apologize for not replying earlier after i went to the apple store. but i will explain what the apple rep did.
first off, i recommend trying several things before you wipe your iphone.
1.The obvious, reboot your phone by holding the home button. If that does not work then...
    2. Backup your phone, then do a restore from backup. If that doesn't work then...
    3. This is where it gets tricky, my dilemma is that i had taken pictures that i didn't want to lose. Keeping the pictures on my phone was the most important thing to me so i tried a couple different things. In my original post, i mentioned that i could not attach pictures to a message to email them to myself. Otherwise, I would have emailed all 100 pictures to myself, no matter how long it took. There are several Extractor programs out there but they are a bit pricey, in my opinion. The one i used was called "Photo Transfer App". You can find this app on the app store, it costs 2.99, but its an awesome little app. It is worth the money. So if you dont care about anything on your phone, if you dont mind losing all your data, eg. notes, music, or photos, then in the next step you will restore your phone as a new phone. All the above steps were my own way to try to troubleshoot the problem.
So at the apple store heres what they did...
First, I showed the girl all the problems i described above. after doing all the steps above, she was like this looks like a real problem. I told her it happened after i updated to ios 5. she said its not the ios, she has seen it on the iphone 3. but i kind of doubt that, because i have not seen anything like this in any forum. but anyways....
To save my photos she recomended i email them to myself, the Internet at the store was not that quick because
of all the devices connected so she said i should do it from home.
but the steps to email (i did not try this method):
-click photos>click the 'select photos' button (looks like a square with a right facing arrow located at the bottom left corner.)>select any photo you want to email-click share-then select email.
I had explained that i had already backed up my photos so we continued...she asked me several times are you sure you saved everything. She continued to emphasize that all my data would be lost when we restore as a new phone. i said no problem, i can do without the things i have on my phone. keep in mind when we tried to restore from backup i was having the same problems, so we decided the back up was also corrupt and was no longer useful.
To restore as a new phone. the lady said this is one of the cool things on ios 5. i'm not sure if you have to be connected to wifi, but i would think you should be connected just to be safe.
-click settings>general>reset>then click 'erase all content and settings'. this will delete everything. Make sure you select the restore as a new phone.
this has fixed the problem for me, i have not had anymore problems. The apple rep said that she thinks either something dealing with the photos app or one of my photos has corrupted the hardware.

  • IOS 5 Photo App chrashes.

    iOS 5 Photo App chrashes.
    What can I do now.
    I also restored the iPhone.
    Please help me !!!

Wish I had an answer...  I may be having the same problem.  A few weeks after installing iOS 5, I started noticing that the pictures I was taking were looking really pixelated and bad.  Thought something was wrong with the camera.  Then some photos started disappearing, replaced with either blackness or a fuzzy-looking gray photo frame.  Then the ap started to freeze while scrolling.  Then my albums started to shuffle the order around.  Now some albums just disappear temporarily.  I'm still able to sync photos to my Mac, but I just erase them from my phone, because they're useless there now.
Is this similar to what you've been experiencing?

  • Camera and Photos app keeps crashing!!!

I had no problems last week until yesterday...i even did a clean restore but still the camera and photos app tend to crash
it keeps stating "Please Wait" Updating Library...
and the bar reaches up to about 30% loading and then crashes....anybody else having these problems on their 3gs?

This means the answer is no - a clean restore does not mean you restored your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup. If there is a problem with your iPhone's backup, restoring from the backup will also restore the problem.
All photos and/or video in your iPhone's Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Not a good idea to depend on your iPhone and your iPhone's backup alone for this data in the event your iPhone is lost or stolen and it is not replaced with another iPhone, or there is a hardware problem with your iPhone.
I always import all photos and videos captured by my iPhone with my computer ASAP as with any other digital camera and as with any other digital camera, I delete the photos and videos from the camera after the import process is complete. This also helps to keep the iPhone's backup time to a minimum, provides me a copy of this data on my computer for viewing along with including this data with my computer's backup along with all other important data, and if I want any of the imported photos and videos available on my iPhone for viewing, I can transfer the photos and videos from my computer to my iPhone via the iTunes sync process as with any other photos/video.
Try importing the photos/videos from your iPhone's Camera Roll followed by deleting the photos/videos from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete. If no change after doing so, restore your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.

  • How to add missing Geotags in the new Photos App?

I have explored the new Photos App extensively but have thus far been unable to find any way to edit/replace/add/remove Geotags to photos that are missing them.  With iPhoto, it was very easy to copy a Geotag from an iPhone-Shot photo to a photo taken with my Canon DSLR.  In fact, I got into the habit of always snapping at least 1 picture with my iPhone to save the location whenever i'd go out shooting with my DSLR so I could later apply the Geotag to the rest of the photos when I got home.  Did Apple remove this critical feature from the new Photos App?
