Photos app scrolling bug STILL present in iOS5

Hi all,
There have been numerous threads posted about a bug in the Photos app where the events and albums listed appear underneath the titlebar. As opposed to the titlebar being a solid colour, it is opaque so you can see the list underneath it which is really annoying and can sometimes prevent you from being able to select the album you want.
Here is an example screenshot: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ronaldkunibert/6264912500/in/set-72157627940413408/
I'm disappointed this is still present in iOS5. It is such an obvious bug, how has this still gone unnoticed by Apple? Does anyone have any further info on this?
P.S. The trick of force-closing the app doesn't work anymore either.

1.2 fixes a bug in the auto-write mechanism that severely effected the performance of auto-write when files with changes were offline. Unfortunately, we didn't have time in the cycle to drastically enhance performance of the XMP auto-write mechanism for making large batches of changes or toggling the option on and off. The Lightroom team is aware of these issues and is working to resolve them for a later release.
The wording of the download page is pretty obscure. For a more accurate, detailed review of the changes in 1.2, please refer to the blog post at http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/ . For a better understanding of ways to use the auto-write mechanism in the interim, check out my post at

  • Old screensaver bug still present in Snow Leopard

This bug has driven me mad in the past (since Tiger!) and I am still getting it on Snow Leopard.
    Scenario:
    1. Invoke screensaver
    2. Wake computer
    3. Get password prompt for a split second - (it disappears, like a focus issue).
    4. left with a blank screen and cursor. No means of logging in.
    5. try to re-invoke screensaver by either putting to sleep via power button or closing lid.
    6. Awaken computer - same thing happens.
This doesn't happen 100% of the time but it does require a hard reboot to get out of.
This is one of those bugs that i've managed to live with for a few years but i'm starting to go mad when its still present in the Snowleopard! (pls excuse my venting!)
Obviously the easy issue is to disable the screensaver password - but you'd think this would be fixed by now - Or am I just being stupid and missing something obvious?
    Cheers,
    Steve </vent>

I am experiencing both your size issue and a different bug concurrently.
I also get the 'white' image bug if scrolling through images and then quickly backtracking to a previous one. Then that image will remain white until I close quicklook and reopen it on a different file. Reopening on the same file still results in a white image.  Happened under 10.9 and is happening to me under 10.9.2 on a Macbook Pro, 2010 iMac and non-apple branded um, mac. Size and file type don't matter.
I get a similar log entries once in a while but the backtracking white image thing doesn't cause quicklookd to spam any console info that is searchable in the console.
Removing quicklook plugins, clearing it's cache and whatnot didn't do anything.
    *EDIT*
    http://support.cocoatech.com/discussions/announcements/6-quicklook-issues-pf-652
Apparently my 'snap back' issue is was caused by the version of Path Finder 6 I was running on those machines.
It would seem that there are a number of other issues with the 10.9 quicklook API. I guess I'm going to wait and hope it gets fixed.

  • Lightroom 1.2: XMP-bug still present and some other things

    * I just upgraded to 1.2, but the XMP-bug is still present. When I turn on autowrite XMP LR starts using 50% (1 of 2 cores) of my CPU for quite a long time (15+ minutes) after startup. During that time the interface is somewhat sluggish (probably because of the lack of multi threading).
This behavior was also present in LR1.1. Turn off autoxmp and the cpu-usage will drop to 1-2% within a few moments of starting LR. Turn it on, and it will use your cpu for quite a long time (29.000 photos in my DB).
    * One other thing I still notice: when using identity plates for printing, the identity plate doesn't rotate with the photo when switch from a landscape to a portrait photo (auto rotate is on to make things a lot easier). The print module is one of the greatest things in LR, but this still annoys me)
    * Decent support for multi core CPU's is still lacking it seems. I have to run two export batches simultaneously to get my CPU to 100% cpu usage. Maybe it's an idea to split one export batch into several smaller ones so the can be processed at the same time using both cores.

  • Pictures in "photos" tab (sidebar) are still present after deleting from original album.

After importing my library from iPhoto to photos (Version 1.0 (209.52.0)), i deleted a large number of photos from one of my events (now an album). In this album i can only see the photos which i wanted. However when i select the "photos" tab at the very top of the sidebar, the deleted photos are still able to be seen. They are not in the 'recently deleted' section either. How do i permanently delete them? Should i remove them from the "photos" tab, or from the "all photos" album?
There also seem to be many duplicated photos in my library after the importing. Is there an easy way to find and remove the duplicates?
    Thanks.
Working on a MBP 13 inch (mid '12) with 2.9 GHz Intel core i7, 8GB memory and 1TB hard drive.

Deleting them from the "Photos" tab will delete them. (actually, it will move them to the "deleted items" area, where they'll be permanently deleted after 30 days).
The duplicates could be for one of two reasons:
    1) The photo was in your library and in your photo stream. It's possible this is causing some duplication
    2) You could have actually had lots of duplicates in your iPhoto library, and this is just easier to see in Photos

  • Photo deleted in Photos App still in iPhotos

    Hello,
So I downloaded the new OS with the Photos app, and when I realized I didn't like it much, I switched back to iPhoto, but then when I deleted some photos from the Photo App, it still shows up in the iPhoto Library. Now I'm wondering, are photos duplicated or something in my Mac? Because what if I decide to use and only use the Photos App and not iPhoto, then if I erase pics from the Photos App, they would still be on my Mac correct? Since deleting photos in the Photo App would not erase them from iPhoto. I would have to go into both iPhoto and Photos to erase permanently the photo from the macbook? I don't understand how this works between both libraries.

To use iPhoto with 10.10.3 it must be version 9.6.1.  If you had a earlier version it may show up in your App store under purchases.  To update you must put your present version in the trash then try to download from App store.  It will download 9.6.1.  When you first started Photos it asked to migrate your iPhotos.  If you did this and now want to order those events in Photos select "show side bar" then right click the events title and pick order by name.  The only thing new for me using Photos is that it is easier to view a slide show but otherwise I see no benefit over iPhoto.   That being said I guess Apple has moved on with the new Photos so I guess so should I.  Also if you still use iPhoto any changes or adds you make will not show in the new Photos unless you start over to migrate them over.

  • Accidentally deleted the photos app icon from my iPhone 4s.

I've read the previous threads on this topic but none quite fit the bill. I need to re-install the Photos icon, which has disappeared.
This happened while I was holding my phone but not paying attention; when I looked again the icons were all shaking. I don't know how the icon disappeared because the factory defaults don't offer a delete option, but the icon definately disappeared at that time.
The app itself is still there and, because it was running when I deleted the icon, I can currently still access it by double clicking the main button, where app (and icon) is still accessible there at the bottom of the screen. But this is not convenient for general usage, and if I hard close the app from there then I will have no way to open the Photos app.
I can't re-download the app because it is a factory default app and not available anywhere (and as such shouldnt be deletable!).
The icon isnt hiding anywhere amongst my subfolders, and I've checked for restrictions but there arent any.
Restetting the home screen layout to factory defaults presumably means I  will lose all the other app icons I have, and their sub folders etc,  which I dont want to do either.
I have now backed up my phone and all my photos etc, but if I restore my phone from a previous backup, I will lose the data and messages I've acquired isince then.
All I want to do is re-install the icon and make sure it links to the photos app that is still installed - surley that can't be so hard?
    All help appreciated.
I don't have a Mac and run Windows 7 on a Sony VAIO. All versions of iTunes and IoS are up to date.

    PROBLEM SOLVED
ANSWER The exact same thing happened to me today.  I accidently deleted my Photo app (with over a 1000 photos in it) but I could still access it by pressing the home button twice.  This is because it was with the background running apps (when you press the home button twice it shows all the apps running in the background) but it would not let me drag it to the Home screen.
Well so I was anxiously reading this thread at church to see what to do (I did a search for, 'I accidently deleted my Photo app' and how I came across this thread).  Anyway, I searched all my subfolders and everywhere IT WAS NOT IN ANOTHER FOLDER AND THE PHOTO ICON WAS COMPLETELY GONE FROM ANY OF THE DESKTOPS.
Anyway, my phone was dying and no way to charge it so it died at church and so I connected it to my car charger in my car when leaving church and after the iphone came on again, there was the Photo App on my desktop!
So my advice is to let it completely run out of it's charge then later plug into a charger.  I have the iPhone 4S going on almost 2yrs now and this is the first time this has happened to me!   I was in a hurry getting ready for church and pressed it accidently so I know exactly when it happened (when all the apps have x's and you can delete them ...).
I always delete the backgound running apps to save battery power but I thought now I can never delete the Photo background running app or will lose everything!  Hope this works for you all.  I know I can connect it to my desktop and all but try this first - much easier...

  • IOS5 Photos app bug

So I was browsing the web and decided to download a pic (Save to camera roll), when I opened the Photos app to check the pic, the app went crazy, buttons in the app changed places and some even disappeared, new pics save as a white pic and older photos became incredibly foggy/pixelled. I have tried rebooting and hasnt worked, something just went wrong and this huge bug was created. Ideas?
The device is an iPod Touch 4G, although that doesnt seem to matter since the problem clearly is on the software side. iOS 5 sounded cool but really, is the most buggy update ever :/

Mine was fixed following the direction on this thread.

  • Photos app bug resurrects long-removed photos (related to PNG alpha)

Wanted to report/discuss a possible privacy concern and image glitch, and understand it better for submission to Apple's feedback page: the iPad (and maybe iPhone) Photos app will consitently resurrect long-deleted photos in your Camera Roll, under certain circumstances. These are long-removed photos (as in removed many months ago, prior to the iOS 5 update), and possibly only the reduced-size thumbnail versions.
Note: as near as I can tell, the deleted photos were NOT originally from the camera roll! That's where they resurface, but I believe they are photos from other albums, maybe once which used to by synched to iPad but which I no longer synch. So "removed" might mean deleted or it might mean "no longer synched to iPad"... the images are so old I can't recall.
So the bug, I'm guessing, it two-fold:
    1) The Photos app (and/or iPhoto during wired synch?) is not fully removing photos (or at least, their thumbs). They're no longer visible in Photos app, but are being retained somewhere on the device.
    2) A glitch in the Photos camera roll PNG handling (which I think may be new with iOS 5) causes those old images ro re-surface when you add a PNG to the camera roll. (The old photos were JPEG, but the image that triggers the bug must be a PNG with alpha channel)
I have seen this on both an iPad 1 and iPad 2, running iOS 5.
    Here's how to reproduce it:
    1) Synch some photos to your iPad, then deselect them for synching and re-synch (so they're not there any more). Also, add some photos or screenshots to the camera roll and then delete them. I say to do both because I'm not 100% where the old photos come from, and I'm hoping this covers all bases! Actually, most people have already done these things in the past, and can probably skip this step.
    2)  Generate a transparent PNG using the art app Procreate (and probably any app that saves PNGs to the camera roll with alpha channel). All you have to do is scribble somethign into a blank Procreate canvas, then export it to your photo album. There is no need to do anything special to get an alpha channel or PNG format: you always get that. (Unless you used the Fill command to completely cover the canvas.) Now in the camera roll there should be your scribble on a transparent background. You can email it to yourself and see that clearly in Photoshop or Preview.
    3) Here's the glitch: look at your camera roll (thumbnails view) and you'll see that the alpha-transparent background of the image has become one of your old removed photos! Tap it to enlarge and the alpha becomes black (which is fine, although it may seem odd if you intended to paint onto the default white canvas). But for just a moment, before you see the black, you will get a full-size glimpse of the old photo. (Or, maybe, an enlargement of the thumbnail?)
    4) If you keep saving more alpha PNGs, you'll keep seeing more and different old photos coming back to life in the alpha regions of the thumbnails (and, briefly, at full size).
    5) If you delete all those PNGs and then save some new ones, you'll see the same sequence of old photos reappear again.
Needed fix: removed phtos/thumbnails should be properly purged, and alpha PNGs should show simply black (or some default background) at all times.

Ok, I replicated it and I don't like it! I didn't use the one you marked cause I couldn't call it up properly but I did Bing
transparent gifs and loaded up 3, one was totally invisible in the thumbnail and I could clearly see one of my pics perfectly in the thumbnail but when I brought it to page the gif filled the frame.
I have no idea where the pic came from, I mean I recognize it but from where in the album I have no idea.
Oh yeah, I was wrong about the first pic coming to page, it wasn't the same image but a different one...and I have no idea how the one that came up, (what i thought was the underlying pic) did, or how it got there or even from where.
This is some weird stuff though not as weird as that silly *** movie, what a load of tripe; I should have just spent my
time on this, it's infinitely more enjoyable!
Ok, here's the consensus from my layman iPad view:
What happened now and most probably before was a 'transparent gif' or a partially transparent gif like the one I spoke of first that I could see the edge of or the outer perimeter of, the underlining image with the gif taking up say 3/4 of the thumbnail; this it what it was.
This is totally apparent to me now because of your having me import a totally transparent gif which was invisible over my pic, thus the freaky part I didn't like...keying the thumbnail with one thing and ending up with something totally different when brought to page.
Still doesn't explain where this silly iPad is grabbing these pics from?
But here's something funny; my camera roll shows say 9,200 pics but my, 'iMy System' app say I have like 11,300 which I always thought was a fluke, that it was just reading wrong but maybe it's seeing something we're not.           What if all those pics we're deleting to save space or just generally culling have never left the system?                     Maybe that goofy app is really reading the true count!
Those others up above us here who mentioned privacy concerns.. this could be whats going on, there's a ghost
in the machine and it be our old pics and god knows what else floating around in that iPads memory.
Ok, I'm crazy tired and I have to wrap this up. Least now we know how to replicate this but on the other hand I think we opened up an even bigger can of worms... the mystery of where all those images are hiding in our iPads?
I haven't hardwired to a computer since I upgraded to ios5 so whatever's going on here, leastwise for me is iPad
based and can't be blamed for synching issues like you discuss up above unless what I'm grabbing here is old stuff
reimported back into my pad from the mainframe when I was backed up for the ios5 upgrade?
Oh well, let me know what you think. Please do forgive my not getting back to you sooner on account of the movie
but you already know I regret choosing that over this! Hope you had a good night and thanks...

  • Icons disappearing in Photo app under iOS5

iOS5 Photo app has major bug on iPad
When you select folder and go into it, it is Ok. However when you leave the folder the icon of the folder and the name of the folder completely disappear as if its not there.
The only way to get the folder back is to quit the App and then go back into it and all the folders are there.
These folders worked total correctly on all previous iOS versions and still do with iOS5 on an iPhone.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Tried restarting, unfortunately this does not work for me. Icons still disappear when folders opened and then closed. Noticed this does the affect all icon folders but most. Icons are the first picture in each separate folder not anything I have created. Any other ideas?

Mail is backed up automatically. If you make backups automatically, open Mail application and then, open the Time Machine app (in /Applications/Utilities). You will access to the Time Machine interface, and you will be able to see all your mails of all the backups you have, and you will be able to restore them. It means that your mails are backed up onto the Time Capsule

Calendars, emails, contacts, are fine since files are small.  What I'm afraid of are the apps and photos.
    Any reply will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

With the exception of photo stream, iCloud doesn't sync your apps or photos between devices. You will continue to sync this content via iTunes in the same way as you do now.
Photo stream allows you to sync your most recent photos between all devices, you have the option to use photostream or not.

  • IOS Photos app bug

I didn't know where to submit this to apple, so hopefully someone reads it.
Since about 2 iOS updates ago, I've noticed a bug in the regular Photos app. When switching back to Albums view after looking at Places, the list of albums will start at the very top of the screen (behind the clock, and app controls) making it impossible to click on the Camera Roll.
You have to go to the App Switched and kill the photos app to get it to work properly again.

Ah, now I see it's a well known problem...
It's been happening since 4.3, have they missed it in the last couple releases?
