Photos app uploading more items than in library

I have been having a lot of trouble trying to upload my library to iCloud, I saw one solution that said to repair the Photos library by holding Command and Option at the same time then launching Photos, once the repair was done it seems like the upload has started again but this time its saying it is uploading 19,500+ photos when I only have 17,100 in my library. How could this be?

Something far worse happened to me recently with the Photos app. I noticed in System Preferences > iCloud > Photos, there was an option to "Delete and Disable" iCloud Photo Library (hereinafter "IPL") completely. It sounded to me like this would delete all of my photos from IPL so that I could get a clean start and retry the upload from my pristine Photos app library.
Lo and behold, when I did that, IPL somehow sent a signal to Photos that all of my photos needed to be downloaded, so it duplicated literally thousands of photos in a library that I had carefully pruned in Aperture throughout the years. Not only that, but it deleted half of my library! It went from 130 GB to 62 GB in a matter of minutes with no warning, confirmation, or even an informational dialog box. What a disaster this iCloud Photo Library has proven to be.
Thank God, I have a good backup plan and everything can be restored, but I've learned my lesson and have come to the following conclusions:
1. iCloud Photo Library is a disaster in its current state. This beta is not ready for public testing.
2. The best way (at least for me) to use Photos app now, is to turn off iCloud Photo Library, but keep the option for the Photo Stream on. That option automatically feeds all new photos from my iOS devices into Photos, which is almost perfect. Unfortunately, Photo Stream does not support videos, however. So, for videos, I simply connect my iPhone and Photos app does a good job of recognizing all of the new videos that need to be imported. With this setup, I can benefit from the Photos app, get all of my new photos and videos imported, and avoid the hassle that is known as the iCloud Photo Library.
I hope this experience helps someone in the future.

Synchronising - more items than songs = don't understand

Update of iTunes has caused a few problems with my music library and folders, but a helpful Genius in the Apple store seems to have fixed most issues. One thing puzzles us both - when opening iTunes library, the footer says how many items I have, when synchronising, the software tells me how many songs I am working with. I have about 100 more items than songs and I cannot trace this difference to games (1), TV shows (1) and photos (25). At first we worried that we had not solved the problems with my music library, but I don't notice any missing songs. Any ideas as to what is in the "items" at the footer of the iTunes library? I am just curious rather than desperate to fix something. Many thanks for your indulgence.

How to get items from a list that has more items than the List View Threshold?

I'm using SharePoints object model and I'm trying to get all or a subset of the items from a SharePoint 2010 list which has many more items than the list view threshold (20,000+) using the SPList.GetItems() method. However no matter what I do the SPQueryThrottledException
always seems to be thrown and I get no items back.
I'm sorting based on the ID field, so it is indexed. I've tried setting the RowLimit property on the SPQuery object(had no effect). I tried specifying the RowLimit in the SPQuerys ViewXml property, but that still throws a throttle exception. I tried using the
ContentIterator as defined here:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.office.server.utilities.contentiterator.aspx,
but that still throws the query throttle exception. I tried specifying the RowLimit parameter in the ProcessListItems functions, as suggested by the first comment here:http://tomvangaever.be/blogv2/2011/05/contentiterator-very-large-lists/,

The problem with the code you have is that your SPQuery object's QueryThrottleMode is set to default. If you run that code as a local admin no throttle limits will be applied, but if you're not admin you will still have the normal throttle limits. In my
situation it won't be run as a local admin so the code you provided won't work. You can simulate my dilemma by setting the QuerryThrottleMode property to SPQueryThrottleOption.Strict, and I'm sure you'll start to get SPQueryThrottledException's
as well on that list of 700000+ items.

'Find an Item' search on list with more items than view limit

Hello all
The 'Find and Item' search on a list with more items than the view limit appears to filter results according to where you are in that list. So if I search on the allitems page displaying items 1-100 I get hits from the entire list. But if I arrow
through to view items 201-300 and repeat the same search only items from 201 to the end of the list are returned
I'm assuming this is not how it should work i.e. it should always return results from the whole list. Is there a way to make that so (other than increasing the view limit to something huge so that all items are always displayed)

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that Find an item Search box in List didn't returned any results.
The problem is due to a difference between the Content Source defined for the crawl and the default zone defined in the Alternate Access mapping.
You need to change the Alternate Access Mapping configuration.

Why Photos app uploads SO MANY photos to iCloud? Something's Wrong.

I have about 400 photos in My Photo Stream on my MAC, and my iPhoto library also had about the same number.
And it shows that in Photos app I have about 400 photos. But below that number, it says it's uploading more than 1000 photos to iCloud?? What is it uploading?? All my small bits of images files (not photos) that I have stored on my computer? Like graphic design related small icon images I have or something??? If not, why is it uploading so many??

Well, I understand your frustration, but there is a much simpler way -- why not transfer the video from iPad to PC via the sync cable? That is a whole lot easier and faster than using iCloud as an intermediary. Besides, sending photos and videos to iCloud cuts their resolution down, so that's what will get downloaded to your PC. If you go direct, you get the original resolution. Part of the delay's you're seeing may also be due to the resolution conversion before uploading.
Also, have you checked your Wi-Fi speed? Particularly the upload link, which is normally much slower than download speeds.
Also, when you create a Shared Photo Stream, you don't actually have to invite anybody, not even yourself. Just set it up and start adding photos and video, and add people later if desired.

Why is Photos.app uploading everything AGAIN?

It took four days, but this afternoon the new Photos.app finally finished uploading my 15,000+ photo and video library to iCloud Photo Library. And now it appears to be starting over -- the status bar says it is "Uploading 15,XXX items" just like it did when I first started this process. Checking my storage use in my iPhone settings and on the web, the photos and videos are all there.
Anybody else seeing this, or have any idea what the heck is going on? I blew through 90Gb of data already this week, and while I may not have a cap, Comcast is going to be wondering what I'm doing over here.

Photos App Uploads Photos But Doesn't Update

Running the latest version of iOS, though I've had this problem for 3 or 4 months now. I'm using iCloud Photo Library (I'm aware it's still a "beta" feature, but this seems like a fairly prevalent issue and it's a relatively new issue). The Photos app will upload new photos I take with the camera, but it continuously says it's uploading, for instance... if it says that it has 75 photos to upload, I take an HDR picture (because I keep the originals), and it says 77 photos to upload. It will upload them, I know this because my computer downloads them. However, my phone will still say it has 77 photos to upload. My iPhone also, will not download new photos, my guess is because it still thinks it needs to upload 77 photos, and probably just iterates over all the stored photos looking for ones that aren't in iCloud, anyways... it doesn't download new ones (or old ones it doesn't have yet) and it's annoying not knowing how many are left to upload.
I had a theory, that turning iCloud Photo Library off and on again, allowing it to remove all locally stored "optimized" photos in between, would fix the problem. But I didn't want to try that without knowing that it wouldn't delete any photos that might not be uploaded already.
So, summing up...
Will turning off icloud photo library delete any photos that aren't uploaded? Should I perhaps plug it into my computer to import any that aren't already there the old fashioned way?
Any other potential solutions for fixing the problem? I imagine I can't be the only person using the iCloud Photo Library beta who takes several pictures a day (on average).

If tapping the UPDATE button takes you to the Reader's Help screen, Reader must have been automatically updated already.
To check the version number
Go to the iOS home screen.
Tap Settings.
Scroll down to find Adobe Reader in the left pane.
Select Adobe Reader.
Check the version number.
As of October 11, the latest version is 11.6.3 (100920).

Mac Photos app upload to iCloud is stuck

Is been one day that photo app on my mac says "sending 23 625 elements"
I did restart my mac and my iphone and it is the same. I have checked the updates and it is everything up to date.
Any suggestions?

Same thing here - been sitting at 1278 Items to Upload from my iPhone for a while. Also, the Mac OS X app says it's been uploading 5 items for about 5 days now...
There really needs to be a way to see what the status is...

Photos app did not open my iPhoto library

I searched the forums but didn't find an answer...
I recently upgraded to 10.10.3, looking forward to trying out the Photos app. My understanding is that on the first launch, Photos should open up the existing iPhoto library. However, I had my iPhoto library outside of the Home>Pictures folder. Additionally, while Yosemite was updating, one of my kids plugged in their iOS device, causing iPhoto to open when I previously had it closed. In any case, when Photos opened, I didn't get a dialogue to use my existing iPhoto library, and there was just a blank library. I went to Preferences, and there is an area that shows "Library location", but there is not a button for me to select the iPhoto library. The button just says, "Show in Finder", which brings me to the Finder.
Aside from manually dragging and importing several thousand photos over from iPhoto to Photos, is there a way for me to have Photos use the existing iPhoto library? Thanks for any help on this!

And that is good so. Importing a photo library would create a mess of duplicates - thumbnails, previews, faces ...
You do not import a library, you open it.
To switch between libraries hold down the alt/options key ⌥, while you double click the Photos icon to launch it. That will show the library chooser panel. Just like in iPhoto.
Select your iPhoto Library to open.
Once Photos has upgraded your library open the Photos Preferences and make the new library your System Photo Library. Only the System Photo Library can use iCloud and id visible in the Media Browser in other apps.
After upgrading the iPhoto Library, you will find it renamed with "migrated" in the filename extension. And about the same size as the new Photos library. Don't delete the old iPhoto Library, in case you need to repeat the migration, if their should be issues. First test it thoroughly.
The Photos Library is sharing the media files with your iPhoto Library using hard links. so no additional storage is required for the second library.

Why does my Movie Library say I have more items than I do??

I have a question about my Movie Library.
When looking in my library at the bottom the count says I have 248 items. When Selecting all in the library it tells me I have 240 items selected. This is a little confusing as I've just done a data transfer and want to know I have all my stuff moved.
I count 240 in the Library but only 239 in my movies folder in my itunes library folder.
Any idea why this would be different??

I've noticed that on the Commerce Reference Store (CRS) if I order, let's say, 10 "branded belt black large" and there's only 5 available in stock my order goes through and the order's status is set to "Pending Merchant Action".
Instead of this, I'd like to BLOCK the Order and display a message to the user. Something like: "There's only 5 items available".
I was wondering what's the easiest way to customize this behaviour?

Iphoto albums did not import to photos app

I updated to OS X 10.10.3 as suggested. This replaces iPhoto with the Photos app. The Photos app said it was adapting my iPhoto library to Photos. I have 15,700 photos. The process was very slow so I left it running.
When I returned several hours later, the Photos app was open but had no library. I was offered the 4 basic options including import. When trying to import photos, the finder window showed the old iPhoto library, but it was greyed out. How do I get my 15,700 iPhoto images into Photos?

Don't use the import panel, switch to your iPhoto Library.
Either drag the iPhoto Library to the Photos icon in the Dock,
or quit Photos, then hold down the alt/options key while double clicking the Photos icon in the Dock. Select the iPhoto Library from the Library chooser panel.
Photos should have migrated your library automatically, Either it did not migrate the correct library, because your iPhoto Library could not be found or opened, or your iPhoto Library has a corruption.
Where is your iPhoto Library stored? In the default location, your Pictures folder, or on an external drive? If external drive, is the filesystem correct (MacOS Extended (Journaled)) or do you keep the library in a partition that is formatted for Windows? Is the drive locally mounted or a network volume?

If I have more than one library, how can I upload all photos to iCloud??

I have a couple of different iPhoto libraries. Now that I've upgraded to photos, I am using iCloud and it is currently uploading all the photos & videos from the library Initally opened. How can I upload the other libraries into iCloud? Will they automatically upload once I use the option key and open the different library??
Also, does Photos need to be running for things to upload to iCloud?

ICloud items (photos) to upload is more than actual number of items.

I have around 10,000 photos on my mac. I'm currently uploading these to be backed up on iCloud. Not only is it taking a long time, it says there are 17,000 items to upload (as opposed to 10,000). Why is this and how can I fix it?

Are you uploading them through Photos.app? If so, allow me to tell you me short story.
I used Photos.app to upload my 26,000 photos to iCloud. I imported those photos into Photos.app for such purpose. Towards the end of the importing, Photos told me there were around 1000 photos that could not be imported because the format could not be recognized. They were JPG and they opened just fine, so I retried the import. Well, Photos.app do not know, nor asked, that I was importing the same photos, it re-imported some of the old ones plus the one it said it could not import. Needless is to say I now have many duplicated photos on my iCloud photo library, without a way to fix.
Perhaps the above is happening to you as well?

New Photos App take a very long time to upload 20 Pictures, while the Activity Monitor is showing much more data sent (MB) than these two pictues

The New photos app is taking a very long time to upload images. It stays a very long time at 20,104 for example. When I check the Activity Monitor (Network) it shows that the computer is actually uploading stuff. After about 2 hours, only 20 Pics&Videos are uploaded. The uploaded pics and videos are about 500MB while the data sent is around 1GB. I am positive that Photos is the only thing uploading data at the moment.
Anyone else facing this problem?

It can take days, even weeks.
Tell me 2 things and I will tell you the estimated upload time.
1 How big is your Library (in GB)
2 How fast is your upload speed.
Or you can just use the upload time calculator and do it yourself
