Photos are more washed out in FireFox than Safari

Hi. I've created photo pages in iweb, and when i view the pages in Firefox, the images look much less saturated/more washed out, than when i view them in safari. Any idea why this might be?
the site is www.coutroulis.com then go to 'shots'
thx

Not all browsers support Color Management like Safari does. With FireFox, it can work, but is turned off in the default installation. Sites that look very nice on a Mac monitor with Safari can look very washed out on a PC with IE or FireFox (Safari for Windows does better).
Here is a page that explains the concept pretty well (these issues were not a problem for me in the past as I used GoLive and now Dreamweaver, with graphics prepared by Photoshop):
http://www.gballard.net/psd/golive_pageprofile/embeddedJPEGprofiles.html#
I've found that having both browsers open to the same page makes it easier to see the examples properly.
Note the colors in the chart about half way down the page. The chart is built with graphics that have color management information that tells the browser how to deal with it. Safari shows the named colors perfectly (the box with RED text is actually Red in color), Firefox does not (the box with Red text is actually Blue in color). This is an extreme way to show that some browsers are using Color Management info from the pictures on the page. Your photos have information that Safari is using, but not FireFox.
The page has instructions on how to turn on Color Management in FireFox but you can't turn it on for everyone who comes to your site.
The page is in depth, with opinions on how to avoid the problems at all by using the sRGB Color Space which is the default option when using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements and "Save For Web". "Save For Web" is also just about the easiest way to get great looking photo's at the smallest file size, for web page photo's.
So you get three things from the Photoshop programs - Graphics load faster because they are smaller than the less powerful iWeb optimization, they often look better than other programs that just let you save as a jpg with a variable % quality level, and the sRGB Color Space used in the photo's works well in all browsers and platforms.
Web Site Design has always been about compromise - quality, speed, and accuracy. If your site is only for you and some other Mac/Windows friends who are using Safari - No Problem, otherwise you might want to adapt as needed for better pages for a larger audience.

  • Rendered video is more washed out than preview

I'm new to FCP but expanding from PC/vegas. In the latter the preview looks more washed out than the rendered output but there were ways to preview what your output would look like depending on whether it would be viewed on a tv or computer.
My FCP output when viewed in QT isn't quite as saturated as my preview in FCP or compressor. The blacks aren't as deep nor are the colors as vibrant. I would say it's about 7-12% less "deep" as an estimate. I used compressor with the default youtube settings. I know there will be some loss in the conversion but the amount of color change I'm seeing seems to be more of a preview settings type of thing than a result of the export from the way it looks. Am I missing something or do I need to crank on my color settings a little harder?
    THanks, Billy

    Hi
Me total Amateur - just thinking.
How do You judge Your renderings etc.
I don't at my Mac monitor but connected an A/D box Canopus ADVC-300 and this to a TV (ref. monitor)
Here I see in real-time what I'm doing and if I'm satisfied with it.
When burned to DVD - it is very close to this. (so is never the Mac monitor)

  • I have installed a new Century Link Modem/Router...Firefox is loading fast, but some sentences & groupings of words are appearing washed out, blurry, unclear

When reading web pages...many lines are unclear, not sharp...they are appearing washed out. We just replaced our older Century Link modem/router with their newer version [PK5001A]. When I run the cursor over the bad looking type...it usually sharpens up, though the effect created is very woozy feeling to your eyes. Why is this flaky looking type occurring and what can we do about it?

Is the problem with some web sites? Most? All?

  • Lumia 620 Photos with Flash Washed Out?

May I find out if this is normal or there might be a fault with my phone? I'm running the Amber update on Lumia 620
The photo on the left has flash turned on and it is noisy and off color. Using flash appears to give the photo a washed out / instragram look.
Both photos were taken in natural light.

hi mate, i have experienced some of the issues that others have faced here with the Amber update. the Amber update bought even more saturated colouring, and apparently there will be a return to natural colours in the upcoming Lumia Black update, due to land in early 2014.

  • Colors are appearing washed out when saving from Illustrator to PDF

    Hey Guys,
I am working on a cover page for my office to go along with our bid packages. I have finished adding all of the elements that they wanted and added a little flare to it. Its a really basic document and when I save it into a PDF form, the colors appear washed out or like the PDF adds a lot of white. the Rich black appear gray, the red appears pinkish... and the blue is much lighter than it looks in AI.
I need this to be completed soon, and I have been having this problem for a while now. Im not sure if its just the way it looks on the screen, or if it will print like that. I am a self taught Adobe guy.. So I am a little confused as to how to make this all work
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Steve

    Steve,
What the PDF ultimately looks like depends on the settings when you create it. If you open it in Reader, it may be somewhat off, but in Acrobat it should look right (if your colour management settings are the same as in Illy).
A rich black may be customized to match the artwork in question (such as no C if there is no C in the artwork), or you may have some of each, often with emphasis on C and maybe M; there may be different views on what a rich black should hold.

  • Help! Colours are all washed out

    Hi Folks,
I have an LG Flatron M2380 DF monitor/tv which I have calibrated with a Pantone Huey Pro to D65 colour temp and 2.20 gamma.
My photoshop CS5 colour settings are set shown below.
The pictures look great on the screen but if I print on my Epson Stylus Photo RX585 or even if I send them away to Photobox they all look very grey and washed out. All the colours are flat and lifeless.
Am I doing something wrong? Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Why do my photos in "photos" look so washed out compared to iPhoto?

I don't like "PHOTOS," and I don't know why Apple came out with it for OS10. My pictures look washed out compared to how they look in iPhoto  I can't just click on a photo and see it in full screen. What am I missing?

I took them with various cameras. But that isn't important. I'm comparing how the same photos look in Photos and how they look in iPhoto. They look better in iPhoto.

  • How do I repair cat's eyes that are totally washed out?

    Hello,
Okay, I have a picture of my cat.  It's a great picture, unfortunately it was indoors and needed flash.  The flash completely washed out his eyes.
How do I go about recreating his eyes?
    Thanks

Bart's advice is right on, but you want to go beyond the "slightly" part.
Zoom in close and use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to make a careful selection of just the pupils.
Blacken them out completely then paint in some small white highlights with a small hard-edged brush.

  • On my Mac, why do websites display differently with FireFox than Safari.

I have been using FireFox on my Mac and prefer it over Safari, BUT recently, some, not all, websites are not displaying correctly! When I use Safari all the content is there and the websites display as they are supposed to. (I tried to insert a screen shot but unable to do so) I have the most current FF version installed, unless FireFox is not happy with my older MAC OS ??

Thank you for the info!! Attached are a few screenshots to show the problem - I now know how to do a screen shot! thx.... anyway note on the Ancestry shot Safari shows a male or female head whereas Firefox show a simple symbol for male/female. I spoke with Ancestry and it is supposed to be the male/female head icons that are displayed. In the Yahoo shot Safair displays the icons and names for reply, delete etc but Firefox has some icon that only if you hover over it will it then display the name or what it is. this is very perplexing as I really prefer Firefox over Safari... any help will be appreciated! thank you

  • TS3989 I had photos on my camera roll on my old phone, bought a new one and selected those photos to be a shared photo stream but when I sent it to my wife and opened it on my new phone it says there are no photos shared - these photos are more than 30 da

Just bought a new iPhone 5 and wanted to send pics from my camera roll on my iphone 4 as a shared photo stream to my new phone and my wife's phone.
I selected the pictures and created the photo stream and it showed up on my new phone and she was able to accept invite, but when opened the stream contained 0 photos and a message that says "No Shared Photos"
These pictures were admitedly older than 30 days. Is that the rule that pictures from your camera roll older than 30 days cannot be shared as photo stream?
I apprecaite all guidance on this issue. For those answering - yes everything else photostream wise is connected and working so there's no issue with setup - my question simply is can a user upload photos older than 30 days from the camera roll to a shared photostream?
    Thank you

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
30 days is only applicable to My photostream and even then it applies from the time they were added not mwhen they were taken (unless it's the same time)
I'd be inclined to restart your wife's phone and see if that helps, otherwise you might try turning photostream off and on again on her phone.
Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.

  • Exported document looks washed out in firefox but ok in chrome and IE

Hi there. I'm pretty new with indesign so I'm having a little trouble with the exported pdf. I hope you can help.
I'm doing the layout of a newsletter, which will be uploaded for web viewing. After I exported, it looks the way I intended. But when I uploaded it, the Firefox viewer makes it look like it went through an overused hipster filter. I checked in Chrome and IE and it looks the same as the exported document.
    Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/yRgsTE5.jpg
Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
I really hope you can help. Thanks.

There's probably nothing you can do. There is no color management on the web. And there are a number of different PDF readers which "do their own thing" when it comes to how they display PDF files.
The only way you could guarantee similar preview would be if you had your readers view the PDF in Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat which do have color management controls.

  • Website created with iWeb looks different in IE and Firefox than Safari-why

So I spent a few hours working on my Home and About Us page. Then, while browsing this forum, I started seeing posts about how sites done with iWeb might not look good in IE and/or Firefox. I decided to test out my work. I zipped up my site files and emailed them to myself. I went to my Dell desktop and downloaded the files to that computer. I opened up the home page in Firefox first. The site seemed to look ok, and both the home and about us page links showed up and were functional (i.e. I was able to browse back and forth between the two pages). However, I had some bullet points on the about us page that had a green border around them. This rendered fine in Safari on my Mac, but in Firefox, the bottom line of the box was not connected! Why?
After viewing in IE, I was depressed. The site didn't look at all like it should have. Not only that, but I couldn't navigate between the pages, since the links for home and about us were not at the top. What can I do to make sure that a site I create with iWeb looks good in Safari, IE, and Mozilla Firefox?
    -A stumped newbie

Well I see that you and I share the same problem, I posted the same type of question and am anxiosly awaiting replies on this topic, as it is very important
I own a small business, and every hour a customer cannot view my site is a customer lost to incompatibility issues.
I hope someone can help answer these issues.

  • Why are my book preview photos over exposed and washed out requiring a revert to original to fix

After I create the book and preview it before purchasing a large number of the photos are severely washed out or over exposed leaving only purple and yellow colors.
I tried purchasing the book but a few days later an email came back:
Due to an error when your order was submitted, your image file is unreadable or unprintable.
To fix the corrupted images I have to go through every bad photo (looking at the preview of the book to tell which are "bad") and lift adjustments, revert the photo to original and then stamp the adjustments back onto the photo.
The photos look normal while editing the book and laying out photos.
The generation of the preview takes up to 18 hours for 250 photos sometimes.
I am now on my third book where this has happened.
    Thanks

There have been a few similar problems reported, but I have not seen any easy fix so far.
What kind of image files are you using? RAW files? Images taken with an iOS device?
If the images have iOS adjustments, the images may need reprocessing, alos, if there has been a RAW support update the originals may need reprocessing.

  • "Washed out" look of movie made from photos...

I created a 5 minute movie (using iMovie 08) consisting entirely of photos (using K. Burns effects).
Everything looked great in the iMovie application. I loaded it to my .mac web Gallery site and the whole movie is "washed out" - less vibrant colors.
I then tried saving it to the desktop as a Quicktime movie & same thing - all colors are washed out and less vibrant than the project I see in iMovie as I edit.
    Any ideas??
I have a brand new iMac running Leopard & with tons of space...
Thanks for any help you can give.
