Photos are taking up space on my iPhone, but I have no photos.

When I sync my 16GB iPhone 4 to my MacBook Pro, the bar at the bottom shows that it is currently holding over 5GB of photos. I have only a few hundred from the camera, and none from iPhoto on my Mac. This is preventing me from syncing music and other files to my device, and it's becoming extremely inconvenient... Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue or ideas about why this might be happening? Thanks in advance.

Do you have any lengthy videos in your Camera Roll that could be causing your problem?
If not, the issue may be a software glitch that could be resolved by updating your software to the newest version, 4.2.8.

I have an iPhone 5c with iOS 8.3. It's only an 8GB iPhone, so I only have about 5.2GB of space to use. So I have to be very picky about what stays and what goes on my iPhone. I have deleted all of my pictures out of my albums (both camera roll and recently deleted) and there can be no photos found in my library. In settings, I turned off all photo sharing capabilities, so I shouldn't be getting shared photos from family members on my phone and stuff. So why does my storage say that shared photo stream is taking up 54.6MB? I would like it to say 0MB. Am I missing something? I've included a couple screenshots to help clarify things. This is what I mean. I'm seeing the 3.9 KB usage for Photo Stream under General>UIsage>Photos and Camera, nothing to do with the storage on iCloud and I have Photo Stream and everything to do with iCloud and photo sharing off. However, I may have had Photo Stream on before for a few weeks before I turned it off long ago. Could that data/used space just be a few photos that were once in Photo Stream before I turned it off if I've had it on before?

My messages are taking up space on my iphone even after I delete them.

I delete my text messages and afterwords they are still taking up the same amount of space when I check my usage on my phone. I have turned of spotlight search, synced to iTunes and none of that has worked.

The only option I see is to restore your phone as new to removed the save message in usage.
I have about 6.7 gb of saved messaged, I've done all the troubleshooting steps and only a restore will get rid of it.

Assuming you are using iTunes 11.1:
Connect your iPhone to your computer.
In iTunes towards the upper right of your screen you will see the name of your iPhone. Click on it (not the eject symbol.
This will open a series of windows with tabs.
Select the tab for photos.
Untick the ones you do not want on your iPhone and at the bottom right click on Apply.
They will be removed.

Thx - the videos are on my Ipad - that is the problem - they are taking up all the storage and there is no room for anything else. Is there any place I can store them so that I can access them from time to time, but not have they use up all the space on the IPad? Sounds like the cloud is out...

How did you determine that? Does your Camera Roll also include videos? They are photos and videos are lumped together under "Usage."

If you have iTunes Match, yes the idea of that is that you have access to all your music from anywhere. If you access it though you will be downloading it, in order to play the music you have chosen to play, once downloaded, that music will stay on your device unless you delete it.
Music that is on your phone will show up as normal, music that is only in the cloud will have a cloud icon next to it, when downloaded the cloud icon will disappear, if you delete it again the cloud icon will disappear again.
In the example below, all my albums by Matt Schofield are on my phone, the others would need downloading.
Photo's are different they kept on your device and only synced to the cloud so they can be pushed to other devices.

If I want to keep events, but want them to include the newly edited albums, can I delete the specific event and somehow bring the photos used in the album into a new event. Understand iPhoto just keeps space or manages photos, so how can I have events that include the edited pix and clean up disk space. Thanks.

It's very simple. If you want to use iPhoto, just let it manage things as it does. Other than that: Export from iPhoto and delete the image from iPhoto. That will remove the master and all versions.
If space is an issue... use an external disk.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

"Other" includes data such as iPhone settings, contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cache/cookies, email and email attachments, SMS/MMS/iMessages, notes, app data, Safari cache, cookies and bookmarks, stored passwords, search index, home screen organization, wi-fi network data, etc. It should normally be about 1 GB. Yours in an indication there may be corrupt data on your phone.
Unfortunately the best solution to fix your issue is a restore. Back up your phone, then restore it using iTunes. Follow this guide:http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414.

You mean take the cover off of the iPhone, to look inside? I'd recommend against it. Even with warranty expired, you might qualify for an out-of-warranty service, which for 3GS is $149.
Other than that, any repair/service options are going to cost money. You might want to see if a wireless carrier will let you get a new contract & phone.
Out of curiousity, you're just using at as, basically, an iPod Touch, if there's no cell provider? Did I understand that correctly?
