Photos automatically rotate

hi everyone, i have about 400 photos i took when i was on a trip and when ever i open them up fully in iphoto the all rotate 90 degress to the right. anyone know how to fix this? thank you

Daniel:
Were those photos taken in the portrait position and does your camera have the auto-rotate function? If so then iPhoto reads the rotate tag that the camera writes to the file and automatically rotates and saves the modified version.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • How do I automatically rotate photos?

It seems as though in my old PSE3 that it automatically rotated photos and PSE 6 doesn't seem to. Haven't been able to find an option to have it do it though...and ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks. Amy

You don't need to export anything from iPhoto to edit a photo in Photoshop.
The images Displayed in iPhoto are somewhere on you hard drive. If you have Photoshop, the real Photoshop, on your Mac then you also have Bridge, it is part of Photoshop used to view images.
If you have Photoshop Elements then there is a part of that meant to view images and then edit them in another part of that program.
Open Bridge, or Photoshop Elements, and point it to the Pictures folder under your username.

  • Some Downloaded Photos are Rotated in Aperture

When I download my photos into Aperture and when I shoot tethered, some photos will be oriented the correct way and some will be roatated.  There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to this.  I can take a series of shots the exact same way and some will download right and some will download rotated.  I can't seem to find an answer for this annoying problem.  Anyone have a cure for this? Thanks.

If the picture includeds orientation data (landscape/portrait orientation) Aperture automatically rotates the image to the correct orientation.
Some cameras don't have an orientation sensor built into them so they don't know if they are portrait or landscape.
However, if your use an image stabilised lens on such a camera, the image stabiliser can then provide the orientation data.
I suspect your camera doesn't have such a sensor, and the images where Aperture is correctly rotating were taken with a stabilised lens, while the ones where it doesn't were taken with a non-stabilised lens.

  • Automatic Rotation Not Working On iPad 4th Gen iOS 8.1.2

So I recently got an iPad 4 and the automatic rotation is not working at all. I have done every troubleshooting possible including a restore of 8.1.1 and then upgrading to 8.1.2 hoping it would fix the problem and still nothing. Obviously rotation lock is off and I have tried toggling it back and forth through control panel and side switch along with doing multiple hard resets and it just won't automatically rotate at all.
I know my sensor isn't broken because if I change position with the device off and turn it back on it will display the correct orientation, but only if I turn the screen off. Games and other apps that use the gyroscope/accelerometer work fine, yet somehow my automatic rotation function is just broken.
Is anyone else experiencing this same issue? Since I know my sensor isn't broken I just don't understand why this is happening since it doesn't seem like a common problem after trying to find information on the topic.

    Try reset iPad.
Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

  • Some photos are rotated within the wrong orientation

Hello fellow mac users, I am having a strange issue and would like your help.
Following a corruption of my iPhoto database, I used a third party software to repair the database. I also did additional things like repair thumbnails, etc... I managed to repair the library but I am now having a strange issue.
Portrait photos are rotated within the portrait frame. To repair, I need to swap the resolution in Photoshop:
    1. What I see in iPhoto.
    2. Rotated photo in iPhoto. This is obsviously distorted.
    3. Original photo after inverting resolution in photoshop...
Is there a conveninent way to perform a batch repair without having to open every photo one by one in photoshop??? I hame probably more than 500 photos like that!!!
    Thanks in advance!

The picture now looks fine in iPhoto (thumbnail is still wrong)
    Then try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
2 - Run Option #2, Rebuild Thumbails.  It might take more than one try.

  • How to copy and paste an object (i.e. a drawn polygon) without it automatically rotating in the pasted page?

In detail:  I have a multiple page PDF for a construction project.  We are using Adobe to mark the drawings up; the drawings have a set scale.  In my scenario, I am highlighting a region of known data on the plan using a shaded polygon.  I have another page that I need to compare that shaded region to that is at a different scale.   I reprinted the differently scaled plan through Adobe at 200% size to match to the main document's scale (going from '1 inch = 40 feet' up to '1 inch = 20 feet').  That newly printed page was inserted into the document containing with the polygon.  I then copied and pasted the polygon onto the new page.  The polygon is automatically rotated 270 degrees.
The issue is why the polygon is rotating.  The above information is just in case it matters.  And, yes, sometimes this happens in other files as well, but not always.
Using Adobe Standard X (NOT Pro), version 10.1.9

    Thank you Sukrit for responding.
The computer I am using is controlled by a government agency.  They do not allow users to install or modify any software.  The file I am using, though a public document, may not be advisable to be posted online.
However, my solution to the issue was to reprint the document that I was pasting into and modifying the print settings to rotate the PDF image.  First, I had to change the size of the PDF beyond the original full size dimensions to account for the scale change.  Then change the print settings to print landscape while telling adobe's advanced settings to print portrait.  After some finesse with other settings for scale, I was able to copy and paste the polygon without loosing the scale.  This took me a week to figure out.  An extreme waste of time for such a simple issue that should not occur in such a popular software.

  • Split Apart Scanned Photos Automatically

There is a similar issue here: Break apart photos automatically, but I figured I might get better luck posting a new post than replying on one that is over 8 years old.
Anyways, I have an Epson Perfection 600 Flat Bed Scanner. The Epson scanner software allows you to scan in multiple individual photos at once. (I put like 6-8 photos on the glass, and it automatically separates them) I thought I could do the same thing with either Photoshop Elements (I have version 12) and/or Photoshop Organizer. I can scan using the Organizer software, but it only scans as one full image and does not separate them into individual images. I can then edit them using Photoshop Elements by clicking Image, then Divide Scanned Photos. It will do it, but I recall that I used to be able to do that whole function in the organizer software. I haven't used Photoshop for a while, so I actually cannot remember the exact steps I used to use. I thought used to automatically seperate them upon scanning them into the organizer software.
Is there some settings I need to change somewhere? Plug-in?
Please help! I have 10,000+ photos that I need to scan in quick and easy. Thanks!

I’m not sure how this would work in Organizer. As far as I know it has always been done in the Editor. Click the menu bar:
    Image >> Divide Scanned Photos
N.B. it is often not perfect and requires a good degree of separation to begin with, but from the Editor you can use the crop tool where necessary.

  • PSE how to have photo automatically resize the a 12 X 12 background document

I was told that when you drag a photo onto a 12x12 document it will automatically resize to the 12 x 12. When I do it in PSE the photo is small...and asking me to transform it. Is this different within these two programs or is there a work around in PSE. I had a friend try it in her photoshop program and the image wasn't distorted at all...Didn't appear huge, like if I transform it.

Both are set at 300....it's a very small picture... 4x3 my online friend uses CS5 and said it automatically changed it to the 12x12 blank document when she dragged it on...I did that but it gets very large and blurry...I studied about smart objects and used place to open photo and then tried to resize it....she clipped a mask watercolor underneath to give it emphasis... she then tilted the whole picture.she's out of town for the moment...I was trying to figure out what she did...for the life of me I can't get mine to resize to the 12 x 12....it expands larger than hers when I try.

When an image is added to a document, the incoming image is scaled to the resolution of the target document.  Make sure the resolution is the same for both, or simply use the Move tool on the pasted image to resize it to suit.  The incoming photo is never resized automatically to the target document's dimension. • How to make photo auto rotation work?

Ok, I just got an ipod Touch 16GB yesterday and this is my first ever Apple purchase. I saw an iPhone that my friend has and really liked the screen and photo display features. My friend and I are both photographers. So I bought it mostly for its nice display, all other features are secondary to me.
I plugged it in my Dell PC on Windows XP and set it up. Since ipod version 1.1.2 was available and I updated it before I had a chance to use it with 1.1.1. Anyway, after fiddled with it and loaded some images, I was eager to try photo viewing feature. To my disappointment, the photo auto rotation does not seem to work. When I changed the orientation of the ipod, there was no response and no rotation. For some unknown reasons, I could change the orientation for the whole set of images, sometimes 90 degrees or 180 degrees (upside down from original position), but not individual images. I never figured out how I did it. Could someone help me to get this straightened up? Appreciate in advance.

Sounds like you've got some kind of bug in the software or something. The above portion of the quote was really interesting, because i've never heard of it being able to flip the sets of images, only individual ones.

  • Raw images not automatically rotated since SN upgrade

Since my update to Snow Leopard, my Sony Alpha Raw portrait images are not automatically rotated when importing into Aperture 2.1.4.
The same problem is visible from the Finder.
It is a Mac OS Raw support problem I guess?
Anybody else? On another Raw format?

Yes. Same problem here since SL: When importing images shot in portrait orientation from a Sony A700 using RAW or cRAW format, they appear in landscape orientation in Aperture ('sideways'). This is annoying, adding another pass in the workflow to correct orientation. This issue does not occur with A100 RAW formats; orientation is preserved correctly.
Any other experiences with this issue? Any solutions?
    Thanks!

  • Automatic rotation of NEF images on import

I have a Nikon D80 and when I import images into Lightroom upright shots are not automatically rotated. I can easily rotate them in Grid view, but shouldn't this happen automatically?

Lee is right, the D80 can sense orientation automatically and should do so by default. You probably turned it off by accident. Lightroom will always read this information in my experience.

  • Weird Noise applied to photos automatically

When I'm going through photos, previewing them before adding adjustments, I'm noticed that before aperture is done generating and displaying the image, it really looks a lot cleaner than when it's "done". Is there some setting or layer being applied to the photo automatically? Can I turn this off?
If my photos are actually "dirty", how can I make them look more like they do before Aperture "finishes" loading them.
To show what I mean :
the photo on the left is under "loading" on the right is done (this is something aperture is doing).
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v177/HCR-Leader/example.jpg

Hey, guys. I hope you were able to fix your problem.
I have another "noise" question, of a different nature...I am getting the spinning beach ball, but it's doing this other strange thing that I'm not sure is related to the beach ball.
Each time I do an edit, I try to work with a single shot which suddenly gets a layer over it of weird flourescent (sp) colors (pinks, greens, sometimes yellows, sometimes a mix. Looks like noise--and looks corrupted.) Usually that image stays that way until I drag the image onto my desktop and then the image is fine and I can use it. But I won't have edited, since I couldn't really see it.
I have Ap 2.1.4 and I'm on an iMac with SL 10.6.2. The issues could be SL related, but not sure. I think it was running better before SL, but I can't remember.
Thoughts? I'll look around to see if anyone else knows.
    Thanks! Marj
