Photos become corrupted during processing

I have been struggling with processing photos on my imac for some time now and am starting to lose hope for a solution. I randomly get corrupted images showing stripes and blocks which contain part of the image, but with a different color and shifted in position. It looks like the order in the image is lost. I contine to see the problem on other computers or my ipad when transferring the picture that is corrupted. So it does not seem to be a display problem.
Some history:
- I cannot import raw images from my camera using any application (canon software, aperture, iphoto) without randomly getting several photos with this problem.
- I can import raw images from my camera on a WIndows machine or using a virtual machine running a Windows environment on my imac. So that last solution I am using frequently...
- When transferring these large raw images to the native osx environment (so from the windows environment), the corruption reappears when processing these raw images in the osx environment.
- If in the windows environment, I convert these large raw images to smaller jpeg files, I can process these jpegs on my native osx environment without problems, although I once got the corrption again in one email when I tried to mail a large jpeg file. So my workflow for processing my raw images was to transfer them from my camera to a WIndows virtual machine, do the first processing in this windows environment using Canon software, convert the raw images to jpeg format, move the jpegs to my osx native environment and then further process them in Aperture. This worked fine, although cumbersom and dissapointing considering I bought my imac for its good reputation for working with images.
- I recently started to create picture books in Aperture which I then ordered a hardcopy from. The number of pages is significant and the size of these books is XL, so they do not come cheap. Guess what? The same corrupted images are now appearing randomly in the pdf file of the preview of these picture books! So to be sure I don not proceed with buying these books.
I tried several things to get this resolved without succes. What I did note is that before I moved to Mountain Lion, I had less issues when forcing Aperture to run in 32bit mode. Since I am using Mountain Lion now, I do not have this option anymore...
My conclusion so far is that many of similar problems reported in this forum are not related to specific software, but rather to the operating system or is a hardware issue. I am not a specialist, so not sure if processing large images uses a specific part of my imac that other applications do not use (or less intensively), but I only have problems when processing images. All my other applications run very well and besides the image problem, I have no other complaints...
If anyone can point me towards the solution for my problem processing images, I would be very thankfull. Please help me!
Olivier

Good news from my side: no more corruption of my raw images and no more corruption of my photobooks in Aperture. After a couple of weeks in the shop and a significant number of tests, the conclusion was that there is nog enough RAM. All other components seemed to work fine. So, shifted from to 2GB to 4GB and just ordered my photobook without problems. Not sure if his will help the problems you are experiencing, but it helped for me at least.

  • I am trying to reset my 4th generation ipod touch via itunes (as I cannot remember parental controls code). In itunes it does a download but then says the software was corrupted during download. Itunes is up to date. Operating system is vista. Any ideas?

I have given my 4th generation ipod touch to my husband and he wants to download some in app purchases, so I am trying to reset it via itunes. I dont remember setting parental controls but I must have at some point, maybe when I lent it to the kids. But I cannot remember the password and nothing I have tried works. So I have backed the ipod up and am trying to reset it but after speding 10 minutes doing a download I get a message that says:
"The softwaar for the iPod was corrupted during download. Disconnect and reconnect, then try again. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later"
I have tried many times. All the settings are correct, and the network seems to be working fine in all respects.
    Any advice very much appreciated.
    Thank you
UPDATE - decided to try one more time after trying for hours and it has worked! I now suspect it may have been because my son was playing an online game. Though we have plenty of bandwidth. But in case, I guess it could be a bandwidth problem.

A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (or if you forgot your passcode)
iTunes 10 for Mac- Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    iOS- Understanding passcodes
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
If you need to restore your device or if you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to
             update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup.
If you can not restore your device then you will need to go to recovery mode.
Placing your device into recovery mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
         1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end
of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
         2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the
red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake
and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake
              and Home buttons.
         3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
             start with step 2 again.
         4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
         5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
         6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • Applying presets causes filter settings to get corrupted if process version updated

I have an ongoing problem with Lightroom 5.7 including earlier versions.  The problem occurs when editing photos which use previous process versions (ie, 2010).  My presets all have the Current Process version checked (as they should).  Whenever I apply any preset to a photo, the settings for existing filters get corrupted (reset to 0).  This includes my Graduated Filter settings, Adjustment Brush settings and Radial Filter settings.  Those filters and their masks remain on the photo but their parameters have all been set to zero.  I keep falling into this trap since it's natural to use my presets when making updates to photos.  Often I don't realize this occurred until it's too late.
As a work-around (inconvenient) I can first manually update to the current process by right-clicking the photo and saying Settings/Update to Current Process (2012).  Or by clicking the Lightening Bolt button in the upper right corner.  But this must be done prior to applying any presets and I typically for get as my database has tens of thousands of pics. Even a preset with just the Process Version set will cause the filter settings to be corrupted.  I'm not interested in applying a batch or Quick Develop process to all at once since I need to inspect each one as the process is updated.  It would be great if this could be fixed in a maintenance release since it keeps biting me.  I think it's important that this be fixed in LR 6.0 also.  No doubt it's messed up many user's photos without them realizing it.  Does anyone know a work-around so Presets can be used?
    System: Win7 pro 64 (current), 4.2 GHz i7, 12GB, Lightroom 5.7.

In my opinion: not a good idea to convert old photos en-batch.
Recommend: convert (hand-selected photos) one at a time, or just use PV2012 on new photos.
There are more than one reason:
    * As you know, process conversion yields very different results (if photo has been substantially edited).
    * It takes some time to polish your PV2012 editing skills.
    * Often when you are comparing PV2012 results to previous PV2010 results (which you've become familiar with, and like...), you may interpret differences in a more negative light, than if you were using PV2012 without comparing to a previous PV2010 version.
This last one can not be over-stated. Numerous times I have converted and been disappointed, at least initially. Recovered highlights can seem like loss of contrast. Detail in shadows can be distracting after initial conversion, until you step back for a while, then re-look at it...
Also, the process version itself (results I mean) takes some getting used to (even when not comparing to a previous legacy-pv edit). e.g. if you've become attached to the over-saturated shadows in previous process version, the shadows seem under-saturated in PV2012, etc...

  • Video app becomes corrupted after streaming iTunes purchases

I wasn't sure what to use for a title here, but chose this because it captures much of what I am seeing.
    Hardware:
    3rd gen iPad, 32GB, iOS 7.0.4
    What I am doing:
I purchase TV shows and movies from the iTunes store, but as we watch them while on the home Wifi network, there is no need to download the content to a device before viewing. Once a TV show or movie is purchased, it can be viewed in the Videos app as streaming content, much the same way that it does on Apple TV (which doesn't permanently store anything).
Key observation: I usually make these purchases through the Videos app itself, rather than going explicitly to the iTunes Store app. I am not sure this makes a difference, but it may.
    What happens:
It all works well for several weeks or months. Then 3 bad things happen:
    1) During this time I observe that the available space on the iPad steadily decreases (viewed through Settings -> General -> Usage). It starts with a value of approximately 12GB free space, and then declines, despite the fact that I am not storing any media files locally. After approximately 2 months, I now have 5GB free, and cannot account for the "missing" 7GB, not even close.
While it is to be expected that any streaming device must temporarily store content, that content is usually cleared after viewing or after some predetermined time interval, etc. I do not expect this content to simply accumulate endlessly.
    2) Eventually, videos will fail to work properly. I will attempt to watch a purchased item, and it will run painfully slow, and may be missing audio. I check Usage, and my free space continues to decline. Subsequent attempts to view TV show and movies are now unreliable.
Big clue: shows that do not work properly cannot be deleted or downloaded locally.
    3) The entire iPad becomes notably slower and less responsive running all of my usual apps (Pages, Numbers, Facebook, etc.)
What I tried that was illuminating:
I noted that under Settings -> General -> Usage, it shows the Video app as containing "No data". So, I tried downloading a different purchased video in order to guarantee that there is some data. While this video plays within the Video app, I observe that Usage still shows the Video app as having "No data", which is verifiably untrue.
Conclusion: the database used by the Videos app is failing to purge old streamed content, becoming corrupted, and now failing to report data storage to iOS.
    What works:
Sadly, the only cure for this problem is a complete erase/restore of the iPad from iCloud backup. When I do this, all of my "missing" storage returns, and videos work normally. The iPad performance returns to its usual snappy self. But the cycle repeats, and I must eventually go through the 3+ hour restore process again.
This solution is 100% consistent with a corrupt database, and hence I suspect that the Video app is the culprit, consuming space until other systems are affected.
    Has anyone else seen this?

I'm experiencing this exact issue on two devices:
    iPhone 4S 32GB
    iPad Air 64 GB
Both while running iOS 7.03 and 7.04 (recently updated both devices to 7.04 hoping it would help. It didn't)
My iPhone had become nearly unusable until I found your post. It had apparently accumulated >12 GB of "temporary streamed content", as after I did a backup/wipe/restore, I had recovered to around 12 GB free space.
It's unfortunate that the fix requires a complete reset/restore cycle, as it's very time-consuming, but thanks for providing that fix! It saved my iPhone 4S. Now I can comfortable wait until the 6 comes out to get a new iPhone.
Really, though, this seems like a critical bug for iOS devices. I'll certainly not stream any iTunes content until/unless this is fixed. I found that if I turn off "Show all Videos" in the Video App settings, it doesn't show the iTunes cloud content for streaming from within the App. This forces me into iTunes to do a full download if I want to watch something. Kind of a pain, but it beats a device that's maxed out on storage and basically bricked.

  • ORABPEL-02100 - Deployed file location becoming corrupt.

I've had an SR open with Oracle for months on this one and it's made zero progress. Under load (BPEL 10.1.2.2) we sometime see the following error :
<BaseCubeSessionBean::logWarning> Error while invoking bean "process manager": Cannot find process content file.
Cannot find the content file "1.0" for process "TaskActionHandler" (revision "").
Please check that the path "1.0" is correct and refers to a file that has been included as a part of the
    deployment archive.
Once the problem starts we have to re-start bpel to clear it. The content file name has become corrupt and instead suddenly contains the revision number. Revision number has in turn become null. This can effect any of the deployed processes and appears to be random but perhaps load related.
Luckily it's rare but has a catastrophic effect on the the in-flight instances.
    Rob

I got fed up waiting for something (anthing!) positive from Oracle Support on this so decided trawl the BPEL logs myself...
Our ORABPEL-02100 error appears to be a side effect of an earlier problem:
The first time a BPEL process is called we sometimes see :
    08/01/28 05:01:39 java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 10
    08/01/28 05:01:39 at java.util.ArrayList.add(ArrayList.java:355)
    08/01/28 05:01:39 at com.collaxa.cube.rm.suitcase.PartnerLinkBindingsDescriptor.getPartnerLinkBinding
    s(PartnerLinkBindingsDescriptor.java:50)
    etc
Every time the service is invoked afterwards (until we restart BPEL) we see:
    08/01/28 05:51:33 java.lang.NullPointerException
    08/01/28 05:51:33 at com.collaxa.cube.xml.xsd.xerces.ProcessSchemaManager.loadWSDLs(ProcessSchemaMana
    ger.java:181)
    etc
It appears to occur when you get a two parallel threads executing the same BPEL process at exactly the same time where that process has yet to be invoked since the App Server started. To me it looks like a java sychronisation issue in the wsdl caching code.
Anyone else experienced this arrayList exception in getPartnerLinkBinding ?

  • Rendering speed is slowing down during process, almost up to freeze

    Hello there!
First of all, I'm a new person to After Effects. I bet I just doing something wrong, but anyway I would like to ask an advice how to fix my issue because googling such subject won't solve it.
    The point is following:
I rendering 120-minutes long video for YouTube. It almost static with no effects, just with a few simple fade-in/out transitions on couple of layers. You can find an example of such video on YouTube by this link: Daniel Lesden - Rave Podcast 056: guest mix NitroDrop (Israel) - YouTube (for some reason, specifically this video was rendered successfully previously).
Process is going very well at first, 1 minute of playback rendering for about 30 seconds, so first hour of the video rendering for 30 minutes.
The problem starts at about 70% of overall progress: it start to slowing down, and then goes to 1 frame rendering for 1 second. As you can imagine, it's a pain for such long videos, it will take a days to finish last 20-30%.
Composition and render settings are following:
    Size: 1280 x 720 px
    FPS: 30
    Format: Quicktime
Codec: ProRes 422. I've also tried: Animation, Photo JPEG, another ProRes and even H.264, but outcome was the same.
    Output module settings screenshot:
    Multi-processing settings:
On this point I have to say that I've tried many different options with amount of CPU, RAM or with Multi-processing option turned off completely, but in the end it all was the same.
After Effects version: CC 2014 (still on trial version, but it shouldn't be a problem since Adobe don't have any limitations for trial versions as far as I know).
    Computer and OS information:
Any advices please? I'll very appreciate every possible solutions.

"open AE preferences>General then move to the bottom tab and set AE to purge every 10 frames or so"
    — I've set this parameter to 10 as suggested, and here are the last render queue results:
First 60-minutes video rendered superb good for 1 hour 17 minutes.
Second 120-minutes video goes really badly: it took 8 hours to render about quarter due to error. Here is what I found in the error log: "There is an error in background rendering so switching to foreground rendering after 246 frames completed out of total 216000 frames. (26  ::  142)".
Later I've tried to render second video again, and it was great almost till finish: 1 hour 45 minutes has been rendered for less than an hour. But then it suddenly slowed down (as described in the original post), so I had to stop it. I installed Memory Dig and "optimized" memory before rendering and once during process, but it didn't help. In the end I just rendered last 15 minutes of the video (with no issues) and just merged it into 120-minutes long file using Video Joiner. Pretty sad method, although.
On a third attempt everything was fine until rendering stops by a new error in popup window: "After Effects error: internal verification failure, sorry! {could not find itemframe we just now checked in}".
So the original problem still wasn't solved yet unfortunately.

  • Premiere Pro CC v7.0 - MP3s corrupted during import with "Write XMP ID to Files on Import"

Premiere Pro CC v7.0 - original MP3s corrupted during import with default "Write XMP ID to Files on Import" option
I have just started using a Trial version of Premiere.
I have a folder full of corrupted MP3 files after attempting to import them into Premiere.
After searching these forums I found that some other people have had corruption issues during import of media and it was related to the Preferences->Media->"Write XMP ID to Files on Import" option.
I attempted to import additional MP3s (this time making backups first) with and without the Write XMP ID option, and have found that this is where the issue is.
While the MP3 files still fail to be imported, the files are not corrupted in the process when the Write XMP ID option is unchecked.
Writing to files that are being imported seems to me like unexpected behaviour for any software.
    Adobe please advise!
Is there any way to recover my original MP3 collection?

What exactly is wrong with them?

  • Why does Essbase become corrupted?

I see alot of advice on how to restore Essbase but very little information on why a database would become corrupted in the first place.
I have a database in 9.3.1 and I have a calc script that is run every evening that clears and copies data in the database. On Saturday night while this calc was running, the database suddenly became corrupted and would no longer start until a restored copy was put in place. This was the error:
A read from file [e:\Hyperion\AnalyticServices\APP\APPLICATION\DATABASE\ess00001.ind], with handle [5] from offset [21921792] for [8192] bytes, failed with error [0] and O/S return code [38] after [0] bytes.
Unable to Read Information From [5]
    Essbase Internal Logic Error [7333]
The calc hasn't changed in a few months and the outline had not changed as well.
I would like to avoid having to do restores and would really appreciate any insight into why the database would be corrupted so I can try to avoid any future issues.

I've had databases go corrupt when:
    1) Some other process tries to, or succeeds in gabbing rwrite access to files Essbase is trying to write to (think disk backup software).
    2) The Essbase service is stopped while retrieves or calcs (and I suppose loads as well although I've never observed that) are occurring.
    3) Weirdo hardware issues -- I've had RAID arrays die on me (and others) because of faulty hardware but this was a once in a career event.
    4) Essbase/the OS runs out of disk space.
That's pretty much it for modern versions of Essbase. Older versions would go corrupt if you looked sideways at them but you're on 9.3.1, so that should not be an issue.

  • Video files seem to become corrupted when I adjust speed

    Hello,
I have started editing a new project, and am experiencing a familiar problem that I have encountered in the past, but which was never really resolved. I'm not very technical, so apologies if my description of the problem is simplstic.
The problem is that after making certain edits in the Project window, I find that the entire project has some how become corrupted: i.e. every single clip becomes impossible to edit - I can't spool through the clips and view them in the screen by dragging my mouse cursor over them, and I can't even delete the clip whose edit seemed to result in the corruption.
If I leave the project to go back to the project library, it is now impossible to re-enter the project. The words "edit project" in the button at the top left become grey. I find that the most common cause for this problem is whenever I attempt to adjust the speed of a clip, or reverse it. Is this a common problem with a simple solution?
I have come up with a makeshift solution, which is far from satisfactory, but does sometimes help: I remove the file in the iMovie Events folder in Finder that contains the clips that I can no longer edit, and open up iMovie. The event library in iMovie will now be empty; I replace the events files back into the iMovie Events folder in Finder, then import a random clip into iMovie. The random clip is imported into a seprate event of its own, and the original file that I had put back into iMovie Events reappears simultaneously. Sometimes when I do this, the clips in the Project library are editable again, but not always.
However, I would far rather that the programme simply processed my edits without corrupting the project. Is anyone familliar with this problem, and does anyone have a solution. Thank you very much in advance.

There are several likely sources of corruption, and video card would be far down on my list of possible suspects.
The transfer from camera card to hard disk is the most likely place for problem, either the card reader or USB cable can go bad. Another likely source of problems is the computer's hard disk is starting to fail. The camera card itself may be bad. And lastly, the memory in the computer may be malfunctioning.

  • After upgrading to version 6 my ArcGIS files become corrupted if I save them while I have FF open (sporadic occurence, but limited to FF being open). How can I downgrade to version 5?

I am using ArcGIS 10 and Firefox 6 on Windows XP.
After upgrading to version 6 my ArcGIS files become corrupted if I save them while I have FF open (sporadic occurence, but limited to FF being open). Any ideas of what could be causing this? I have also posted on the ArcGIS forum site for input from that side.
How can I downgrade to version 5? If that is the only option available.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't have to process the php, it just has to show the HTML content. It did that just fine before the last upgrade but won't now.
I've seen that page you referenced: http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions.
It doesn't help. The things it says to look for aren't there for me, specifically:
    browser.download.pluginOverrideTypes
    plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types
I followed the rest of the instructions but it didn't help.
I did get it to quit opening tabs, instead it prompts me what it should do with the file every time now. What it should do, and used to do, is open the php page and display the HTML content.
    Any other ideas?

I've seen this issue since beta1. The issue seems to be related to a camera setting that stores the files in folders by date. The Folder structure becomes drive>DCMI>10202008>image.ARW
This "no photos found error" I have seen in beta1 LR1 LR1.1 LR1.2 LR1.3 LR1.4 and LR2.0 this is still an issue in LR2.1
Auto import works fine with canon or nikon RAW files (I've used several different cameras with no problems)
The Folder structure for canon files is drive>DCMI>100>image.CR2

  • Saying the file for my Iphoto app has become corrupted. Never backed up the file, So now what?

Every time I try to open up my IPhoto app I keep getting a pop up message saying the file for my iPhoto app has become corrupted and needs to be restored from back-up. The problem is I never backed it up. and if by slim chance I did but can't remember for some reason I can't find the back-up file on my Mac Book pro. This is a good lesson for all of us. Having only one sets of files without a backup is a ticket to disaster. I know several folks who lost all of their photo library when the hard disk on their computer died. It's shame. Those files that are important to you should be saved in at least one different location than just on your computers hard drive. Its even better to keep two backups.

The first thing to attempt is restarting in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more has become corrupt. Once it has started navigate to 10.6.8 Update Combo and download and install per the directions. After it has installed if you still have difficulty re-starting, go to System Preferences - Startup Disk and make sure the internal HD is highlighted and click restart again and restart again in Safe Mode. Finally restart normally.
BTW I have asked the moderator to remove the serial number of your machine for your own security. Please DO NOT post private information such as email addresses, serial numbers etc.. to a public forum.
