Photos causing no end of problems!

Guys, I've "updated" to Photos and have been no end of problems!
I want to import photos from my Android (which I have previously done without too much trouble).
The first problem is that only a few photos show as thumbnails.
The second problem is that I have even photos that I have previously imported show as being new.
When I select the photos I want to import (I count how many new ones I have on my phone and then count up on the Photos app) and the click Import nothing happens. It says its importing, but several hours later the 5 photos I need importing are still in the import process.
I decide to stop importing. This doesn't work. Photos app just hangs.
I choose to Quit Photos. It won't allow me to do so. It tells me that it's Closing Library. Force Quit is not available!
I choose to Shut Down my Mac. No can do as Photos is still running - and can't be force quit either!
I have to hold the power button down to shut down.
Happens every single time!
Oh Apple, what have you been doing these last few years!

Hi Terence, thanks for your reply.
Was there not a Force Quit option if you long clicked on an app icon in the dock also?
Apologies for not explaining my connection method. I'm connecting via USB.
I did try the Image Capture app. But this also gave me a list of ALL the photos on my phone including the ones I've imported already.
I know I can do it the long way round by knowing what photo I last imported was and then selecting all subsequent photos thereafter.
It's just that with iPhoto it wasn't this bad.
I guess it's a business thing, hey! Apple wants all of us to use Apple products in combination.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2>&- | wc -l | pbcopy
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be a number. It's automatically copied to the Clipboard. Please paste it into a reply.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

i tried to sinc my photos and i ended up deleting off my phone all the pictures.  i only ended up with one folder, and i cant figure out how to put rest of folders from my computer back on my phone.....help
and on a second problem.  I need to know for sure that my contacts are backed up on my computer

Create a parent folder on your computer to store the named folders of photos that you want transferred to your iPhone. Under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, select the parent folder. All named folders of photos within will be transferred to your iPhone as separate folders or albums.
Regarding your 2nd question, this should be easy. Your contacts should be available on your computer with or without an iPhone or any cell phone, which can be lost or stolen.
Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process, not a good idea to depend on this either since the iPhone backup includes a significant amount of other data. Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book app on your computer. With Windoze, this can be with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 along with syncing calendar events and notes, or with the address book app used by Outlook Express with XP and by Windows Mail with Vista and Windows 7 called Windows Contacts for syncing contacts only.

  • Editing text in Dreamweaver CS4 on Mac 10.6.2 causes paragraph ends to disapear

Editing text in Dreamweaver CS4 on Mac 10.6.2 causes paragraph ends to disappear.
When adding bold in design view (strong) to two words at the start of my paragraph the last line of the paragraph disappears. This is somewhat worrying as it means any editing I do in dreamweaver could do massive amounts of damage to the content.
We are pasting the original content into the code view so as to strip the formating Dreamweaver then decides to take the last line break in the source code paragraph and then delete it see example below:
<p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Aenean dignissim nisi id risus varius ut scelerisque massa consectetur. Vestibulum non tortor augue, sit amet dictum lacus. Cum sociis natoque penatibus et magnis dis parturient montes, nascetur ridiculus mus. Curabitur ultrices felis et dui tincidunt sit amet tristique est pulvinar. Nulla a lectus quis erat ornare ultricies. Sed ac elementum magna. Nulla aliquet accumsan nulla. In dictum accumsan tortor eget consequat. Suspendisse potenti.
So when applying Strong with the Bold button in the design view to the first words 'Lorem ipsum' the last part of the paragraph 'lobortis vehicula lacinia interdum odio' will be deleted. Bizare and very dangerous especially for Annual Report content.
Any experience of similar or solutions would be greatly received.
PS. I have restarted, repaired permissions, checked dreamweaver is up to date trashed plist's and removed duplicate fonts.

It could be a problem in the templates.
In all honesty, I just tried pasting text into the Design section of a page.
It doesn't even work on my Mac, and it took three tries to get it to actually paste in VIsta.
I had to go to the code and reformat it after it did paste, but it eventually went.
I don't work with templates much.
Well, that actually makes me feel a little better, if it makes sense to feel better to learn that it could be the expensive software and not just us. I guess I will view this as an opportunity to improve me coding speed :-) Thanks for the feedback.

  • During photo upgrade, iPhoto ends unexpectedly

I've tried every suggestion I can find--unlocked photos using Terminal; made sure my preferences allow me to make changes, etc--and it starts the upgrade process (upgrading from old iPhoto to iPhoto 06). About 15 minutes into the process, it stops unexpectedly each time. Here is the error message. Please, anyone who understands Apple better than I do, help me understand what's going on here.
    Thank you...

This is an educated guess, but looking at your crash log I'd point the finger at Quicktime 7.1.3. This has been causing a number of problems with iPhoto 6.0.4. A workround, which has solved my problems, (crashing on edit of some files) is to revert to Quicktime 7.1.2 until Apple provides a proper fix. You can do this by using the 7.0.1 reinstaller to uninstall 7.1.3, upgrading to 7.0.4, then upgrading to 7.1.2. The disadvantage is that iTunes 7 will not download movies with 7.1.2, but otherwise works fine. I have found no other issues and iPhoto has been completely stable since.

  • IPhoto says it cannot import my photos because there was a problem downloading an image, how do I fix this?

Hello! So I have a Sandisk class 10 memory card and whenever I try to import photos onto iPhoto from the memory card it says "IPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image". I have a Macbook Air and IPhoto 9.5.1.. I've tried a lot of what other people say on other questions like this and it still won't work! I've tried using image capture, creating a new library, and creating a new user to see if it worked there. I have enough space for the photos, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Please help, Thanks!

I had that happen a couple of times because even though the camera displayed the  picture there was a problem with the way it was saved to the chip - and that caused problems with all pictures after it.
My version of IPhoto (ILIFE09) does show where the error occurs on direct import from the camera -- on the camera deleting the first picture where the error occurred allowed import of the others.   Once it was the first picture, once in the middle.
Problem happened when I took a second picture before the first one was 100% finished saving.

  • Photos syn always end up short. 65 pictures out of 70. Why?

iPad Air 32g lots of room. Problem is photo syn always end up short, 65 pictures out of 70.

Exactly the same issue, exactly what is described by joeltimothyoh. This is extremely silly since we know that Apple extended the width of the iPhone 5 from the iPhone 4's and now the camera photos resolution doesn't seem to fit the screen nicely. While this problem can be solved by a photo editing app, it defeats the whole point of capturing nicely taken raw photos.

    Error Code: c0000005

I clicked on the OK button and the downloader closed.
I did a search on this error code (c0000005) and there seems to be a workaround but no solutions, why is this? I ask that because this problem seems to be years and years old, going back to at least 2005 (do the math that is 10 years).
I don't even have the Camera hooked up and I get this error on download.  I redownloaded everything and reinstalled.  I allso saw the AVI issues reported with this proble so i updated Quicktime though without the camera being hooked up when I get this error I didn't expect that to work.  I tried support and they wouldn't help because I bought it in March this year.  Pretty frustrating as I have re-purchased Elements about every 2 years.  I think I might need a new CODEC?   I had this problem on an Earlier version And I seem to remember that being the Fix but this may be something completely different

I finally found that it was missing a picture so the Catalog was "corrupted".  I just deleted the picture and it started working.
I hate Adobe and their total lack of support - thanks for nothing Adobe .  Also get this - they offered me to upgrade to 13.0 ( My 12.0 is only 6 months old  but they still don't support it on errors.  Only install errors!
I have upgrade and repurchase this product 4 times now.  I will find something else next time!

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
