Photos coming out darker with a white backdrop when taken outside

I am trying to take some photos of my product outside because the light seems to be better at picking up all the colors than when I've taken them inside but now when I'm taking the photos with the white backdrop they are coming out darker than when I had the backdrop painted lime green. I took the photos at 8am right when the sun had the  backdrop lite up the most I live in Florida for time zone questions. the other photos where taken at 9:30 and they came out a lot better but had a glare in them.should I go back and paint the backdrop green again or have any other ideas. PS I have adobe Photoshop elements 9. any idea on how to take out the glare in a photo when taken outside. and is their a website that can tell me when the best time is to take an outside photo in my region

think you for all you help but one thing im still confused about is northern light. does that mean to have the item placed to the south west to have the sun to the north of the item?
Northern light means that the only light falling on the product is coming from the North sky (in other words, your product is in the shade of the house).  Specifically for your speargun products, your setup will be like this:
Get a medium gray background larger than your spearguns.  This is especially important if some of the guns are camouflaged.  If you can't find a cloth backdrop from a photo supply house, look in some fabric stores.  If not, then get a couple of 30in. x 40in. sheets of matte board from an artist's supply store.
Place the product and background in the shade of your house, waiting until the shadow of the house is long enough so that your camera will also be in the shade.  (A side benefit is that you'll be cool. )
Put your camera on a tripod.
Set the camera and tripod in the middle of the speargun, moving the camera back until the complete speargun is in the picture when using a "normal" focal length lens.  You can slightly decrease the focal length to the wide angle setting if necessary to get the whole speargun in the picture, but be aware that the more wide your lens is, the more the product will be distorted.
At that point, you should be good to go.  Let the camera use its automatic everything to take the picture and it should look good.  If you want, you can also experiment with a couple of shots using flash as a fill-in light, but that might cause some glare off parts of the speargun.
The photos will have two things happening that slightly complicate matters:
Northern light will be bluish because the light source is the blue sky. That blue cast will be over the entire image, so you can quickly and easily use PSE to remove the blue cast because you won't have to select anything -- just remove the cast from the entire image.
Depending on what you use to support the speargun on the background, you might get shadows, etc., and want to then separate the speargun into its own image with a transparent background.  Using a gray background will make that process easier because selecting the gun will be a snap.
Hope that's not too much info to absorb....
Ken
P.S.,  Depending on what the original colours are, you can easily use PSE to "pop" the colours before saving the images as PNGs for the Web.

  • Scans coming out in black and white vertical lines

I have Mac OS X / v. 10.9.5 and an HP ENVY 4500 printer/scanner.I have had this set up for 6 months without a problem, but the first scan I tried to do after putting in new ink cartridges for printing are coming up like this: http://www.screencast.com/t/qkhaKNOd Help!

Hi , Thanks for providing the excellent screen shots. I see that you are having issues scanning, they are coming out black with vertical lines. I will certainly do my best to help you. I see by the screen shot that the AirPrint driver is selected for the default printer. Did you download and install the latest drivers?  HP ENVY 4500 series Full Feature Software and Drivers. If the newest drivers are installed, delete the AirPrint driver and add the Envy 4500 drivers.Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, you will need to to click the drop down, to select the printer's name to add it in. Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation. Try scanning again. If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below. If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know. Thank You.

It means that iPhoto can't find the file.

My daughter's older Ipod Touch is having a problem with images becoming pixilated when taken from an e-mail and placed into her camera roll. ( She wants to put on Instagram ) Any help?

I think that may be a consequence of the email provider she is using. Some services (AOL is one example) inspect and modify email attachments, particularly photos, resulting in reduced resolution compared to the email that was sent.
The iPod does not do this. The resolution of the picture in the email she receives will be identical to what is imported.

  • Prints From Epson Coming Out Dark/Orange Cast

    Hi,
I have an Epson PX710w and use Lightroom 2.4 64bit on Vista. I have putting out some prints over the last few days and have noticed that images with a lot of red in have been coming out slightly orange and all of them are darker than expected. Is there any reason for this? I have also tried printing through CS2 and have noticed a little improvement in the prints. I have also printed some of the images off on other printers with good results that match my monitor.
What I currently do in the Print module:
Colour Management: choose profile that matches printer and paper
    >
    Print properties >
    - Choose paper type
    - Colour Management > ICM > Off (No Colour Adjustment)
Then I go back and hit print...
    Any suggestions would be fantastic.

    I don't use a Colormunki..but what you say here

In the calibration process, I have to turn my monitor Brightness control all the way to 0 to get to come close to what Colormunki wants.
I have to turn off the Enbale DDC Calibration function in the preferences or Colormunki sets my monitor so dark, I can barely see it.
sounds very strange. Usually when profiling a monitor and setting the luminance value (which is either called the brightness or backlight) control, you start from the brightest point the monitor will go to and then the device measures this and sets a recommended luminance value measured in cm2 (that is candles to the square meter) and you reset your monitor brightness until it matches the required value. Are you reading the instructions carefully as what you say here just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Setting the monitor to 0 (o what?) and saying the calibration device sets your monitor brightness (this will be done on the monitor controls not by a calibration device)
If you are also using the colomunki to make printer profiles I have heard of several serious problems with the device regarding this. I understand it makes icc v4 profiles and your printer drivers may use icc v 2...this will cause difficulties. You will usually be better using the canned profiles supplied by any paper manufacturer than attempting to make your own profiles with these cheaper end of the market devices in my experience.

  • Envy 7645 photos coming out poorly

When I print from my brand-new Envy 7645 (on photo paper) using the computer, no matter what settings I use, the printer "rushes" through the job. Quality is fairly good with good contrast and crisp, sharp blacks, except there is severe banding with a light stripe every 3/4 inch in the dark sections of the photo.
When I print directly on the printer by inserting a SD card, using exactly the same paper, the printer "takes its time" as you would expect when printing photos. The bands are gone, but the photos come out muddy. Blacks are brownish and contrast is poor. This seems like it must be the printer's  "photo printing mode".
It seems to me that what is happening is, in "photo printing mode" the printer is using only its color inks, leaving muddy blacks, but when I print from the computer it is printing in regular quality mode, but correctly using black AND color ink to achieve rich blacks.
Is there any way to tell this printer to both take its time, printing in photo mode, but ALSO using its black ink to get rich blacks?

  • Pictures Coming out darker after I turn them into jpegs/tiff.

    Hey everyone,
I've been having a problem with my photoshop for quiet a while.  When I edit my photos in PS, everything is fine, they look great and all but when I save them as JPEGS or tiff they come out darker. I dont understand what the problem is. I've been trying to figure out if its my color settings. But iam not sure. I even tried downloading some calibrators from online but I didnt know how to use them. I thought it installing the latest version of PS would make a difference but nothing works at the moment. Its really giving me a hard time and a lot of my clients have complained about the photos being dark.
Has anyone else came across this problem? I would really appreciate the help. Thank You.

A chart such as this one can help you check to see whether your monitor gamma is set close to the 2.2 that's typical for PC displays.
View it at full size by clicking on it.
Your gamma is set right when the vertical gray bars look like smooth gradients, with no brightness nor color shifts from side to side.

  • New 5.1 Speakers not coming out right with SB Live DE

I came to this forum after discovering that driver support is no longer available for "<font face="Verdana" size="3" color="#ff0000">Li've! Digital Entertainment 5."<font face="Verdana" size="3" color="#ff0000">?I just got a new 5. speaker set and plugged them in, with the brown/green/black cables going into the corresponding color-coded slots in the sound card. When testing, the center sound came out from the left-rear speakers as if the two were switched, while the right-rear speaker has no sound coming out. I bought the 5. speakers back to the shop and they tested them.. all fi've speakers were working fine, but the moment I brought them back the exact same?problem came up again. I'm now downloading the Li'veDriverUniPack from elsewhere, and will post here again after uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.

The reinstall of the drivers failed to solve the problem. There is still no sound from the rear-right speaker and from the creative speaker test, sound from the center and rear left speakers are switched with each other.

  • HP Photosmart Premium all-in-one C410a. The photos are coming out dark, what is happening?

The photos are dark. I am sending the photos wireless from my Toshiba Netbook NB205-N325BL with Window 7 Starter to my HP Photosmart Premium all-in-one C410a. The photos are dark when i send the photo from my iPhone 3Gs too. I have changed out the ink cartridges to see if that was the problem since the ink cartridges were low.
I have recently purchase this printer. I recently had a Photosmart All-in-one C7280 and was very happy with it until it stopped working with Win 7.
    Your help is appreciated.

    Laura,
There are quite a few trouble shooting steps in my [FAQ|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2658560&tstart=0]. But to cut to the chase, first make sure you can run one of the Apps on the Printer and its getting content. Then make sure the firmware is the latest (Tools->Web->Automatic Updates->Check for Product Updates). Then power cycle everything (Router, Printer, iOS device). If it's still not working, more likely then not its a problem with your wireless router and Bonjour, so post back what brand of router you have, the model, and how your network is configured.
    Just trying to help.

  • Why is it when I'm painting with the same colour in PS CS6 it's coming out darker?

I've checked blending mode both say normal. I've used different brushes, opacity is 100%, opened a new canvas, restarted and still having the same issues!
I paint on the same layer or even another layer and it's still darker than the colour I've picked.

Color management settings? System info? Hardware acceleration settings? Brushes used? Image color modes? You need to provide much more information.

  • Why are'nt my photos coming out right.

hp deskjet 3052a printer wirelesswindows vista

    Hi Paty,
Here is a link to your printer's website - Pick whether you are in the USA or elsewhere in the world - there are two slightly different printers depending on where you are located.
At your website are links to manuals, help videos, software, and more.  If you do not have all the software installed that your printer can use, and it's available for your Operating System, it will be listed in Software and Drivers.
    HP Deskjet 3052A
"Not right" photographs can be caused by some of the same issues that make all printing from the same printer to look a bit "off".  The difference is that, in many cases, we don't notice the problem until we print something that has all the detail and color saturation as a nice photograph.
Here's a general group of things that can cause "not right" photos.
    Things to consider:
Paper quality - all paper is not made the same.  Poor paper quality will affect your outcome.  Consider a bright white (97), 24 lb, American made paper.  It costs more; it works really well compared to bargain priced paper.
Ink quality is not all the same.  You may hear other opinions; HP ink in HP printers will provide a more consistant result from the hardware.  Refurbished ink cartridges may cause problems (damage to the printer) over the long haul.
Even when there is what appears to be sufficient ink in the cartridge, it can be time to change the cartridge.  The ink cartridges get dirty - after a couple of cleanings, there comes a point when you just have to trash the old cartridge and put in a new one.  It means you don't get every last bit of ink from the cartridge.  It isn't fair.  It's the way it works.
Regardless of where you purchased the ink, some settings may dump more ink than the paper can handle.  If the printer is working properly (hardware is OK), then this comes back to balancing the ink output with the paper.  There is 'drying time' necessary even for the new printers.  How?  Check the manuals; see if there are settings that can be adjusted - if not, then buy better paper and try it.
The printer may be dirty.  Cleaning the cartridge heads can help - a thorough cleaning uses more ink but may work temporarily.  At some point, you may have to clean the printer with a cleaning kit.  (Most people just replace the printer in this day and age - no one wants to buy the kit and clean the printer.)  Believe it or not, sometimes, it's just dirt.
The cartridges may be faulty.  Try a new cartridge - if your printer uses separate color cartridges - replace them all.  Keep the old cartridges for a time while you try other measures - no use in throwing away good ink.
The printer has to be up to the task.  Unfortunately, not all printers are great for printing high quality photographs.  It's a case of "You get what you pay for".
I print a lot of photographs at high resolution.
Of the items on the list, and besides the high quality printer, remember:
Use High quality paper - don't skimp on paper for photographs.  You don't need photo paper for every photo; you do need the paper I described: bright white, 24lb, American made.  HP brand is good if you can afford it.
    Clean, full cartridges.
When printing / copying / scanning from the glass, clean the glass first.
Set your printer to "best quality" for important work.  Most printers have this setting.
    I hope this helps.
