Photos darker in LR than PS

I have my monitor set for the photos I tone in PS but I am doing a lot more event photography with large batches of photos that I never open in PS since I handle them in LR. I noticed my last group of prints was quite dark and when i compared the LR preview with the same photos in PS, I could see that the pictures look a lot brighter in LR.  I need them to look the same. Any adice? Thanks!

They can only look the same when you make sure that PS opens the image with all the edits that are done in LR.
And even then they will look different if your color settings in PS are different from LR.
As for the latter, in PS under Edit > Color Settings choose <proPhoto RGB>.
To make sure that PS opens an image with all the edits of LR you have to open the image (from LR) as  <Edit a Copy with LR Adjustments>.
If you open the image as <Edit Original> then the image is opened as it is on disk and none of the edits that were made in LR are applied.
This is so because LR writes the edits only into the catalog - unless you save the edits to file (in the Library module, under <Metadata>, <Save metadata to file>. Or keyboard shortcut Ctl. + S.
In<Catalog Settings>, in the <Metadata tab> you can also check the box <Automatically write changes into xmp.> .

  • IPhoto makes photos darker when importing

    Has anyone else noticed this?
I have files that appear darker when imported to iPhoto than they do when opened in Preview... what setting can I change to stop it doing this?

Thanks- they are not RAW, just JPEGS. I will check on the Color Profile setting when I get home- out of interest what does it do and what will happen if I change the setting (other than it not making the photos darker)?

I have used the "description" spot in iPhoto for in-depth additional information for photos of my ancestors. Now I am wanting to know if there is a way to print the photos along with the descriptions; either photo by photo, or maybe more than one per page, or possibly in some sort of booklet format. Thank you very much.

You can make a Book and have a photo on one side and your text description on the other.

  • Videos darker in iTunes than Quicktime Player

I've bought a few movies from iTunes and imported a few from other sources.
Whilst watching one purchased from iTunes (There will be blood) I felt the video was very dark. I did a little experimenting and have discovered that videos play considerably darker in iTunes than in Quicktime Player (the AV controls in Quicktime are set to the default so its not because I've adjusted the brightness manually).
I find this really confusing as I would have thought iTunes and Quicktime Player would be using the exact same framework/code to display the video. I can't see any way in the iTunes UI to adjust the video brightness. Am I missing something? Is it perhaps something to do with Colorsync/Monitor profiles. Perhaps one app is compensating with the color profile and the other is ignoring it?

    Here's what you need:
    Macintosh Hardware
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, G4, or G3 processor
Screen resolution of 1024x768 or greater
Playing videos purchased on the iTunes Store requires a Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5 or 1.0GHz PowerPC G4 or faster processor
*Playing HD-quality videos purchased on the iTunes Store requires a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster processor*
512MB of RAM; *1GB is required to play HD-quality videos*
Playing videos also requires at least 16MB of video RAM

i'm having trouble with my iCloud photos. I thought i could be a little sneaky and take a photo of my photos that were more than 30 days old, so they would be uploaded along with my new photos. that part worked, but i can't select them to upload them to Snapfish?! Any thoughts? I'm bummed. I've got a few hundred photos on my iPhone that I'd like to move seemlessly - or somehow at all.

  • Why do I get a darker printed picture than what I see on the screen of my iMac

why do I get a darker printed picture than what I see on the screen of my iMac

Because your screen is calibrated incorrectly? Because you are using an Adobe RGB color profile instead of the recommended sRGB? Because your printer is not working correctly?
With no information other than "it does not work" guesses are all that one can provide
What set up do you have? What color profile are you using? How is your screen calibrated?
What else can you tell us?

  • Selecting pictures for Online Photo Processing Centers other than Kodak

How can I select photos for printing in Elements for online photo processing sites other than Kodak? Is there a simple way to do this in the Organizer? The online photo sites usually give me only a thumbnail view of the picture and I can't tell which is best.
The way I've been doing it is tagging photos in Elements as favorites, and then tabbing back and forth between Elements (to view the pictures) and online site (to find the name). There has to be a better way to do this!

Choose your photos in the organizer and export them to a folder on your desktop, then upload from there.

  • Libretto U100: photos are stretched wider than they should be

When viewing My Picture File all photos are stretched wider than they should be. I guess that is because the screen is a 'wide screen.'
Is there a way to view the photos in the normal width? Do I need to change any settings to do this?
    Thank you for your help.

Did you try to change the screen resolution?
Check if the photos will appear stretched using the screen resolution like 1024x768.

  • Photos appear much darker in Lightroom than Photoshop or Picassa

    Hi
I've just put Lightroom onto my PC but all the photos I've imported look much darker than when I look at them in either photoshop or picassa.
I have to up the exposure and fill light to get the photos to match how they look in photoshop.
Is there something I need to do to rectify this?
    Cheers Rob

That definitely indicates the profile is to blame. If you care about your
prints and how your images look to others, it is a very good idea to buy a
hardware calibrator. Even the cheap ones (Huey Pro, SPyder 2, etc) do a
pretty good job. You really need separate hardware to do this. If you run
Windows 7 or Mac OS X there is a built-in software calibrator that uses your
eyes, but these usually do a pretty poor job.
To test the hypothesis and since you're running windows, try the following.
Open up your monitor's properties pane. Navigate to "color management" and
delete the profile you see there associated with your monitor (probably
called Samsung Natural Color something). Apply the changes and restart
Lightroom. You should now get identical (but wrong since you haven't
actually calibrated) color in both apps. Doing this makes Windows assume
your monitor is sRGB, which is rarely true nowadays. This is better though
    than using the corrupt profile.

  • Why are my photos darker on my iPad than on my iMac?

I have transfered photos from my iMac to my iPad to show a client and they appear darker on the iPad.
iPad's brightness is set to max as it is on my iMac, what's going on?

Is it just Photos that appear darker on your iPad or is the entire screen dark?
If it's just the photos you can try just rebooting the iPad to see if there is any improvement.
Keep in mind the computer will optimize photos for use on your iPad, I suppose it could have done that incorrectly... If that's the case you can use iTunes to remove those photos sync'd to your iPad, just uncheck the "Sync Photos" in iTunes and apply that change. From there you'll want to try to sync them back on, but before doing that you'll want to remove the previously optimized photos in the iPod Photo Cache. You can find this Photo cache by.. following the steps in this article for iPhoto:

  • Jpegs look 'darker' in PSE8 than they do in other programs.

I have started to have problems with Photoshop Elements 8. It used to display jpegs exactly the same as when viewed in other programs, such as Preview and Canon DPP. Then the other day I opened a jpeg in PS8 and it looked a lot darker than I remember, so I opened it in Preview to find that it was OK. Switching back to PSE8 and it was definitely much darker, so I tried DPP as well, again the jpeg looked fine in DPP.
In the end I reinstalled PSE8 and all returned to normal then today when I launched PSE8 it froze on me and I had to do a Force Quit. So I then rebooted launched PSE8 opened a jpeg and its darker than it should be? Opening the same file in Preview, DPP, iPhoto, Image Browser and bizarrely Adobe Bridge CS4 and the jpeg looks correct. It is only PSE8 which is wrong?
I have trashed all the preferences I can find for PSE8 but that did not help.
I suppose I could reinstall PSE8 again but seems a bit of a palaver to have to do this every time.
    Any thoughts out there?
    MacBook Pro 2.66GHz, 4 GB ram, 10.6.2
    Phil

I use Adobe RGB for my image settings and I use a Spyder 2 to calibrate my display.
All was perfectly OK in that no matter which program I viewed the jpegs in be it Digital Photo Professional, Preview or PSE they always looked the same. Even when I printed them out the printed result was as far as I was concerned the same.
Then something happened and jpegs started looking darker in PSE, but looked the same as they always did in Preview, DPP and even Adobe CS4 Bridge, it was only PSE that they looked underexposed.
I cured the problem by reinstalling PSE but then it went again, I have reinstalled it again and so far things are OK.
I am sure the problem lies in PSE and something goes awry with the program. As all the other programs continue to display the images as I expect them to look and they print out as I expect as well.

  • My printer prints much darker from iphoto than from another program on another computer

ALL printed photos from this iMac are much too dark when printed but are OK when printed from an older Mac OS 9.2 from any other program.

    and said 'unstable environment'
What was the original message, in French, I presume?
Can it be, that you are running out of disk space?  If you have less than 10 GB free disk space, free space, before you start to work with your iPhoto library again.
Do you have a backup of your photo library?
If iPhoto has been forcefully quit, you need to repair your iPhoto Library.
Double click the iPhoto Library  with the key combination⌥⌘  (alt/option-command) held down.
Keep holding down both the keys, until the "Library First Aid" panel opens.
Select first "Repair database" from the panel and let iPhoto repair the database.
If that does not make your iPhoto library readable again, post back.

  • Emailing photos as attachments rather than embedded in email text

    Hi
I have set my mail preferences to send emails as plain text rather than RTF.
    Here is what happens
Route 1) I export a photo from iphoto to my desktop, then open the Mail program, create a new email to my friend who uses Outlook on WIndows, and ATTACH the photo from my desktop. Whilst from my mac end, it looks as though the photo is embedded in the text of the email, when my friend receives it in Outlook, the photo is "attached" just as I wanted it to be, and is not embedded in the text. So route 1 works
Route 2) I select the photo in iphoto and click the Email icon within iphoto at the bottom right of the screen. The email program opens and the photo appears (as before) to be embedded in the email text rather than attached. This time when I send this to a friend using outlook on Windows, the email arrives with the photo still embedded in the body of the email, and not as an attachment. So this route does not work
Any ideas why route 2 is overriding the preference settings an sending in RFT (assuming that is what it is doing)? Can I change this?
Is there a way to make the "Email" icon in Mail work the same way - i.e. to attach the photo as an attached file rather than embed in the text of the email?
I ask because I send photos for people to save in original size and format so they can print - embedded photos in the text are no good for this
    Thanks

You should deselect having iPhoto include any caption or file names. Having those following each photo is likely the source of this behavior. When sending to such recipients, you should have all attachments last in the message, and with no text following or between them.
Also, when the message appears in the Compose window, an extra safeguard is to then click on Format in the menubar, and choose Make Plain Text. I use Aperture, rather than iPhoto, and always do this step, and would also do with iPhoto.

  • FAQ: How do I organize my photos by criteria other than date?

Adobe Revel sorts the photos that you upload  in your photo library by date. However, you can create an unlimited number of albums in your library. So, you could set up different categories (albums) to sort the photos by theme or event, for example.
To create an album on iOS, tap the icon in the upper-left corner, and then tap Create New Album. Name the album, and tap OK. Select the photos that you want to add to the album, and then tap Add.
To create an album on Mac, click Create New under Albums in the left pane. Enter a name for the album. To add photos to the album, click the plus icon in the upper-left corner.
To create an album on Adoberevel.com: Click on the Albums tab then select "Create an Album"
Note: The photos inside each album are sorted by date. There isn't a way to sort other than by date within a album.
