Photos deleted from iPhoto, but still in Library folder

iPhoto 9.5.1
Strange behavior in iPhoto : let's say I imported 100 photos. Then, in iPhoto, deleted 80, keeping 20. Emptied trash in iPhoto. Then emptied Trash in Finder.
Let's say the "_DSC1234.JPG" photo was among deleted files. When searching "_DSC1234.JPG" in Spotlight, I find it in the "Master" folder of the "iPhoto Library" folder (Photothèque in French).
I've got a lot of photos deleted, but kept in Library, Not good for privacy, not good for hard drive space.
For exemple, I find 514 ".NEF" photos in the iPhoto searchbox. But when searching in the iPhoto LIbrary folder with Spotlight for files with ".NEF" in their names, I find 1048 ! No duplicates, no previews or "faces" (hey are in JPEG), but photos I deleted, before emptying iPhoto and Finder trash !!
Rebuilding Library didn't help.
I'm using a user account not allowed to administrate the computer. Maybe a link ?
The question was already asked, but never answered :
Growing iPhoto Library, deleted photos still in folders
Deleted Photos:  Why are they still in my iphoto library folder?
Photos deleted from within iPhoto are still in Library folder
Thanks for your help !

Strange behavior again, with the original library : If I select NO event and use the menu Information, I've got 14.634 photos. If I select all events, I've got 15.760 photos. How can I have more photos in all events than in my Library ??????
Check, if you have hidden photos.
File > New Smart Album,  with a rule: Photo is hidden
In my iPhoto Library the "Hidden" flag accounts for the difference in the Photos count between selecting all events and no events.
Make sure, "View > Hidden Photos" is enabled in the View menu, so you can recognize hidden photos by the X.

  • Photos not showing up in iPhoto but still in Library

I'm having a problem with iPhoto. I just got back from a trip. I was copying using the share photo function my photos from one computer to another and after that it seems that about 500 photos are not showing up on the original computer, these photos also did not copy over. Originally, I thought somehow I had deleted them somewhere but they are in fact still in the correct places in the iPhoto library folder. However, they are not showing up when I open iPhoto. I have restarted. I have repaired permissions. I have checked the iPhoto trash- they are not there. I have viewed the hidden photos. I am at a loss. I am sure it is some easy fix I just cannot find it. Please help. I don't want to manually deal with this problem because I have already organized all of them.

Sounds like a corrupted database, I'm afraid.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Deleting from iphoto but not from facebook

    Hello . . .
When I first bought my mac I was happy to just use iphoto for the few pics i take . . . i have now started to become a photographer, and i am needing to store my photos externally due to the limited space on my macbook pro . . .
Is there a way for me to delete the photos on iphoto but keep them on facebook?
    OR . . alternatively . . .
if I store my photos on the external HDD and make that the default library location, (but still deleting the library on the MBP), would the facebook photos be affected?
Im not sure what my options are now that I am wanting to free up space to work with on my mac.

iPhoto syncs with Facebook - the idea being if you make a change in one place then it will also be made in the other. So, if you sync with Facebook and delete from your Mac it will eventually be deleted from Facebook as well. In effect, you're using iPhoto to manage the collection you have online.
If you don't want that don't use the Share to Facebook command. Instead use any of the (many) other ways to upload to Facebook. That way, deleting from your Mac will not affect your material online.
BTW, the same is true of the relationship  between iPhoto and Flickr, and the same solution if that's not what you want.
Moving your Library to an external disk will not affect Facebook and your online syncs in any way.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're becoming a photgrapher then you'll quickly realise that Fcebook is nowhere to store your photos. They are "processed" when uploaded and that's a code word for "heavily compressed and reduced in quality". For instance, I just ran a test. I uploaded a 2.7mb Jpeg to Facebook, and then downloaded it again. The file size of the downloaded image? 873kb - or about 66% smaller. That's 66% of the data in the file thrown away.
There are much better locations online for storing, sharing and backing up your photos - Flickr, SmugMug, Zenfolio, literally, hundeds - and they are dedicated photo sites, geared to the needs of the Photographer.
If you are serious about being a photographer you might also like to compare the permission you give Facebook to use and sell your photos compared to these other sites.

  • All CDs deleted from iPod but still in iTunes library. help?

So i imported some more CDs to my iTunes and it wouldn't let me drag and drop it to sync. Nothing happened whenever i did that. I ended up pressing sync and it deleted all of my CDs from my iPod 5th generation. they're still in my library, but I have no clue how to get them back on my iPod. i keep dragging them and dropping them but nothing is happening. I also restored a backup, but it was still the same. I'm getting frustrated because the CDs account for most of my music on my iPod. Any help would be much appreciated!

You can't sync and use Match
    This
iTunes Match on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    includes:
When you enable iTunes Match on your iOS device, the music library on your iOS device will be deleted and replaced with your music in iCloud.
Syncing music with iTunes will be disabled while iTunes Match is enabled on your iOS device.

  • Help! Itunes 10 made songs vanish from ipod, but still in library!

I am frantic! I am a music teacher and use my ipod daily. This morning I upgraded to Itunes 10 and synced as normal. During my first class I noticed that all of a sudden half of the songs I needed weren't on my Ipod! They are in my itunes and play perfectly fine there. This is so frustrating! I don't have a cd player, so not having my music for class is making my job impossible!!! Please help ASAP!

    Hi there,
You might try manually managing your music, giving you more control over what goes into your iPod without deleting anything important. If it's still on your computer, just sync it over.

I hope i'm not missing something really easy here. A couple of weeks ago i thought i was deleting emails from my inbox and then from my trash with no problems and then imagine my surprise when i get a message saying that my mailbox is almost full and i can't receive any messages.
I promptly logged on to a webmail site and entered my details and was greeted with every single email i have received since i got my new mac!! I have rebuilt mailboxes to no real effect and was just wondering if anyone can offer a solution? After all i don't really want to keep having to log on to webmail to delete all my items every few weeks.
Just to add, my email account is with BT and is NOT a .mac account!

  • Deleted videos from iphoto but they are still showing up in the finder?

I deleted all of my videos from iPhoto and moved them to an external hard drive because I wanted to free up some space on my MacBook Air.  The files are no longer visible in the iPhoto application, but for some reason, when I look at the storage space on my computer, it is still showing that I have 8GB of movies on my computer.  If I search in the Finder, it is showing that a lot of these videos that I deleted from iPhoto are still in a "Masters" folder in iPhoto.  I am confused, though, because if I open iPhoto, the videos are not in there.  I want these video files to be deleted for good - can I just go in to the "Masters" folder in the Finder and delete them there?  I've read not to delete anything from iPhoto in the Finder, though. So, getting very frustrated because I'm not sure why these files aren't fully deleted off my computer. Any suggestions?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have just ordered a photo book from iPhoto but after it generates nothing happens, has it sent? Do I not get an email confirmation?

Magazine ( Dirt Bike mag ) will not open on iPad.  It will open on iPhone. Tried deleting on iPhone, but still will not open on iPad. Running latest ios6.  Used to work on iPad. Seems to try to open then goes back to main iPad screen. Perhaps began acting up when updated and cleaned up iPad or when recently installed on iPhone5. It works on iPhone now, but no longer on iPad. Deleted from iPhone, but still no workie. Downloaded from cloud back to iPhone. Works there, but not iPad.

What are the attachments? If they're a file type the ipad can't natively open then you could have issues and may need an app to handle them.

  • I delete photos from iPhoto but after backing up my computer they are back! How do I stop that?

I delete photos from iPhoto but when I back up my computer the library rebuilds them!

After I do a backup it rebuilds the iPhoto.
How do you back up and what is the "it" that rebuilds iphoto? Do you mean this process of arching/deleting? It may have damaged your Library.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:

Going forward: another way of archiving:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

  • How can I tell whether or not a photo I delete from iPhone will also be deleted from iPhoto on my Mac?

I would like to download the new iOS, however when I go to do that, a message tells me that I cannot because I need 4.6 GB of storage in order to install it. I only currently have 864 MB of storage available on my 16 GB iPhone 5s.
The storage problem would be fairly easy to solve through deleting photos and/or videos, as the Photos & Camera app shows a current usage of 5.7 GB. I am perfectly comfortable deleting photos off my iPhone if I know that they will remain in iPhoto on my Mac. However, when I select photos to delete, the phone warns me that the photo(s) will also be deleted from Photo Stream on all my devices. I tested this with some photos I didn't care about (whether or not they got permanently deleted from all devices), and it is perplexing, because even though the iPhone warned me that the photos would be deleted on other devices, they have not deleted out of iPhoto on my Mac. I even Quit iPhoto and re-started it, but the photos are still there. Why would the iPhone claim that the photos would be deleted from other devices, but yet clearly the photos are not being deleted from my other device? This leaves me confused and unsure.
Meanwhile, if I select a bunch of photos then click Delete, the phone warns me that SOME photos will also be deleted from Photo Stream on all my devices.
I am very annoyed by the ambiguity of the word "some," and not being able to know for sure whether or not photos I delete off my iPhone will still remain in iPhoto on my Mac.
I would just like a really clear answer if possible: currently all my iPhone photos are showing up in iPhoto on my Mac. If I delete photos off of my iPhone, will they or won't they be deleted from iPhoto on my Mac?
    Thanks if anybody can help.

If the Photos have been moved into the Library (Events, Photos, Faces, Places) in iPhoto on your Mac (either because you did it manually or as a result of iPhoto > Preferences > iCloud > Automatic Import being on) then nothing you do on the phone will delete them from iPhoto on your Mac.
If the Photos are ONLY in the Shared - iCloud section of iPhoto then you risk losing them as deleting them from Photo Stream will delete them from there.

  • Photos missing from iPhoto Library - iPhoto 6.0.4

I am a MAC newbie so please bear with me. I have searched various forums and have not found a situation precisely like mine. Because I am new to the OS and don't want to make an irreversible error, I decided to submit this question.
I have been using my MacBook without incident since late May. Yesterday, I was showing off the MacBook and iPhoto to a friend. When I I opened iPhoto I got a dialog box I had not seen before that referenced updating thumbnails(?) and changing resolution(?). As as PC user for over 30 years, my habit is to screen capture unusual dialog boxes - but, of course, not this time.
I believe I chose an option called "skip" or possibly "cancel." iPhoto continued to open, but when it finished, there was no data, there were no Albums or Rolls. And no, I had not yet backed up my data - I know, I know.
My system never froze and I wouldn't know how to force quit an app or shut down in such a situation.
I found the data in the Pictures folder on the HD, but cannot access them or get them "back into" iPhoto.
So, before I do anything that will destroy my photos for ever, I was wondering if anybody had the same problem and tips on how to fix it. Am I missing some critical update? Did I download and apply an update that caused this? I do not recall doing so.
Thank you all for your patience and help.

    TM:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It looks like the database file, Library6.iPhoto has been corrupted/damaged in some manner. You're image files are still in the Originals folder so you'll be able to create a new library with the same rolls but will lose your other organizational efforts.
Here's how to create a new library and at least have the same rolls as the original.
1 - move the existing library folder to the desktop.
2 - copy the Originals folder from that library folder to the desktop.
3 - launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4 - drag the Originals folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However, some of the dates on the rolls may be different (the import date) but can be edited as you would the roll title.
In the future I recommend you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file after each import and after doing a lot of editing and organizing in the library. Then if you experience a similar crash all you need to do is replace the damaged database file with the backup copy and you'll be back to the same place in the library as when you make the backup.
Once this is completed you can delete the Originals folder from the desktop and the library folder. You can keep the older library folder to try other fixes on it.
