Photos disappear

I purchased some photos from Shutterstock and saved as png. My photos were there, then disappeared. It still appears in the timeline and when I select the item in the timeline, it gives the dashed lined box where my image used to be. After publishing the photos are not there.
Am I doing something wrong here?
Sabrina

So When the Rotate right and Rotate left button are unselected the image not visable. Funny thing though, I cant simply click on the buttons to shade (select) them. Clicking "Reset All" worked. A hassel though. Now I have to go through and do this with other images. Why did this happen? And how can I avoid it in the futer?

  • Why do some black-and-white photos disappear in Mac Preview and Safari?

I sent a PDF to a colleague recently only to discover that he uses Mac Preview to view PDFs and not Adobe Reader. The unfortunate part is that, although full-color photos all appeared, small black-and-whites were inconsistent: some appeared and others did not.
Moreover, the same problem turns up when using Safari, though Google Chrome displays the PDF perfectly.
One reference point is that a full version of the PDF appears just fine in Preview and Safari. It's when the original is reduced or optimized that some of the small black-and-white photos disappear. Of course all photos appear in Reader, even when they PDF is reduced or optimized.
I have examined the small photos and have been unable to find any consistent trait among those that appear and among those that do not. I have experimented with them: layered and flat, with and without alpha channels, with and without profiles, as RGB and grayscale, with byte order for IBM PC and Mac, as TIFFs and JPEGs — in other words in every variation I could think of. I have used both Acrobat Pro 8.3.1 and Acrobat XI. Nothing I have tried has varied the outcome.
The obvious solution is to avoid Mac Preview and Safari, but I am planning to distribute a complicated project to a large audience and can't control what viewers they use.
Does anyone know what the problem is?

As I reported and you confirm, the things I tried had no effect.
You point to the compression and image settings, but that leaves the question why some photos and not others showed up: presumably they were all subjected to the same compression and image settings.
There are a great many possible permutations of compression and image settings, and I'm on deadline. Is there perhpas a combination of compression and image settings you recommend?
    Thanks!

  • When I updated iPhoto, many of my photos disappeared.  The events are still there but no photos in them.  How do I get it back?

When I updated iPhoto to iPhoto 9.5, many of my events with the photos disappeared.  The "events" are still there but there is nothing inside.  I have been unsuccessful in trying to get the photos back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Greg

Yes - backup first in case something goes wrong
And if the iPhoto first aid does not resolve things download iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  and use its rebuild command to create a totally new library leaving the current one untouched if you still need it

  • My desktop photo disappears when I reboot iMac, replaced with Mac default image. please help?

My desktop photo disappears when I reboot iMac...replaced with default apple image. does anyone know a fix?

First, try to delete the Desktop settings file. First, open Finder, select Go menu > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and restart your computer. Finally, change the wallpaper and see if it stays after restarting your computer
If that does not work try
open the Applications Support folder and then look for the Dock folder and open that. There are two files, one of which is "desktoppicture.db". Move this file to the trash and securely delete it. Restart the computer. A new "desltoppicture.db" will be created on startup.
Finally, reset your desktop picture again using System Preferences.

  • Photos synced, connect to computer and photos disappear (on Touch)

I just got an iPod Touch and synced some photos last night. I plugged it back into my computer this morning to charge it and all the photos disappeared. How do I save photos so that whenever I connect to my computer they don't all get erased on the Touch? Does this make sense?

    Hi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
It sounds like you have either -
    1. moved or changed the name of the photo folder with which you synch.
    or
    2. moved or deleted the photos from that folder.
    or
    3. Changed your synch settings in some way.
To organise your photos you could do the following -
    1. Make a dedicated folder on your desktop and call it whatever, I chose "Pod Pics"
    2. Within this folder make sub folders such as "Holiday 2008", "Beach" etc. iTunes photo synch will only support 1 level of sub folder so do not put other folders within these.
    3. Copy the photos you require into the appropriate folders. I use copies to ensure my originals do not get lost or deleted accidently
    4. Open iTunes and with your Touch connected go to the "Photos" tab on the "Summary" page (click on your device name in the left pannel to see this).
    5. Check mark "Synch photos from" and choose the folder "Pod Pics" you made previously.
    6. Enable either "All photos" or "Selected Folders" and select the sub folders you want to synch with, then Synch your Touch.
iTunes will then "Optimise" (read mangle) your photos to fit on the Touch. It does not actually alter the originals but makes copies which will appear in a subfolder called "iPod Photo Cache"
    Hopefully that all makes sense.
    Good luck,
    Dud.

  • Photos disappearing from Flickr albums since update

Since the update, some of my published Flickr albums are suffering from some sort of attrition. I have an event with 75 pictures, which I published to Flickr just fine (pro account, uploading original sizes). Now every time I click on it in iPhoto, it spins the "update" icon next to it, and a couple photos disappear out of the Flickr album, both in iPhoto and on Flickr's site itself. The album is down to 63 items now. The original photos in the iPhoto library are unaffected, it's just in the Flickr album.
Anyone experiencing similar problems since the last update, or have any suggestions on how to fix it?

Yup, it shows up fine. The problem is at the publication stage when making a new Flickr album in iPhoto; not all photos are being published, which is where the problems start.
There seems to be no rhyme or reason to which photos aren't published. All the original photos, both in my iPhoto library and in Finder, are present and accounted for. Sometimes, they publish fine to Flickr, but later disappear from the iPhoto Flickr album so get re-downloaded from the Flickr website into my library, creating duplicates since the original photos are untouched.
I'm quite baffled by the problem, and frustrated since I got married a week and a half ago and have dozens of people nagging me to see the photos. The only thing I haven't tried is publishing them in a lower resolution, which even if it works isn't exactly the ideal solution; original file size publication is why I pay for a Flickr account.

  • All my Photos disappeared after I saved a photo from an email from my wife. I am running Mountain lion on Mac book pro 2012, help. What did I do wrong?

All my Photos disappeared after I saved a photo to Iphoto from an email from my wife. I am running Mountain lion on Mac book pro 2012, help. What did I do wrong?

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Photos disappeared from iPhoto Application

Help! I have had about six months worth of photos disappear when I open iPhoto. The photos still exist in the files system in the iPhoto folder, but aren't showing up when I open the application. I have tried rebuilding the library database, recovering orphan photos and rebuilding my cache - with no luck. I mean the pictures still exisit, which is good but I hate to lose all the metadata (tags, titles, ratings, etc). Any suggestions??
    Thanks!
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

None of that stuff works if the location of the pictures was changed, even accidentally.
Check if you have this hierarchy in your iPhoto library:
    iPhoto Library
    Originals
    200<y>
    Roll <x>
    Modified
    200<y>
    Roll <x>
    Data
    200<y>
    Roll <x>
The <y> would be the year number, I mean 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 etc - if you have a photo from that year, there will be a folder for that year.
The <x> would be some incremental roll number, e.g. Roll 1, Roll 2, Roll 3 and so on. Sometimes the rolls seem to skip, i.e. start with a much higher number - Roll 150, Roll 151, etc. Every time you import there's a new roll.
The photos would disappear, if, for example, you moved the 2006 folder from Originals to the 2005 folder. See if that's the case and post back.

  • When I upgraded my iPhoto thumbnails, my photos disappeared.  How can I recover them?  I have iPhoto '08.

When I upgraded my iPhoto thumbnails, my photos disappeared.  How do I recover them?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • ReImport Failure after Photos Disappear from Catalog in 2.1

Mac OS (Tiger). Lightroom 2.1. Several photos disappeared from my catalog. They are visible in Bridge. I tried to do an import from disk to get them back by selecting the missing picture in the import dialog and then clicking import. After clicking import I get a message that the file won't be imported because it is already in the catalog (even though it is not visible). If I then select the name of the file in the "will not be imported list" and click on the "show in library" button I am taken to a picture other than the one I selected for import.
I have been able to re-import the images by renaming them outside Lightrom, and doing an import from disk. Once the images are inside lightroom I can rename them to their original name. At that point I get a message saying that the file can't be renamed, and Lightroom then proceeds to rename the file to its original name.
This is making me very nervous about the integrity of the catalog in 2.1. I don't know if this is a 2.1 problem or a 2.0 problem because I noticed the missing images weeks after I upgraded from 2.0 to 2.1.
So far I have noticed only two images that can't be seen in the library module and can't be reimported (unless they are renamed outside Lightroom).
    Any suggestions?

I have disabled Library filters and the problem persists. Also, I have seen the same problem on two different computers under both Tiger and Leopard, Apparently, the disappearing images only disappear AFTER an editt and same in Photoshop.

  • Uploaded photos by an SD-Card stored in an album. Next day all photos disappeared.

I live in Germany. After my visit in the U.S. two weeks ago I ´ve got following problem with my MacBook Air:
I import photos to iPhoto as usual and after one day these photos disappeared. I tried to find them through "Finder" without success.
What I do get since that is the message: "Files will be uploaded to the Mediathek". And that needs days and days......
Never had this before and I am really upset, because I think about loosing all these nice holiday memories.
Please, can anybody help me ?

I import photos to iPhoto as usual and after one day these photos disappeared. I tried to find them through "Finder" without success.
    edihei,
what exactly happened when you imported your photos?
    as usual
how exactly? You imported the photos from your card directly into iPhoto? And did you delete them from the card or are they still on the card?
Did you see the photos in events in iPhoto after import? Have you worked with them and edited them before you ejected the card and quit iPhoto?
"Files will be uploaded to the Mediathek"
What is the exact message (gerne auch auf Deutsch!)?
This message suggests that you may not have let iPhoto finish the import, before you quit the program and removed the card.

  • Strange Catalog Issue or bug. Help, photos disappeared help?

My images disappeared in the catalog. They are not missing, they are just not visable. I think there is a bug in the Fliter section.
Let me explain. I have one Main folder with 5 Sub folders. All those folders contain random amounts of images. (i.e. the path would be...  Photo/2010/BeachShoot, or Photo/2008/PartyPics... etc).
I imported 5 years of images, hence 5 Sub Folders. I was randomly flagging images to be rejected with the 'x' key. Basically routine maintenance... flag so many, then call up only the rejected photos in the grid view, select all, then delete. Remove the Flag Filter... repeat process over and over...   Basic, simple work...
Now... doing the exact some thing.. I removed all Flag filters and my images are no longer appearing in the catalog. I tested, by turning on flags, off flags.. etc. The images did not accidentally get deleted. I checked my hard drive location. Images are there. I rebooted the machine, I opened up another catalog, to trick it back... did not work. I tried to re-import the images.. but it says they are already in the catalog.
Strange part: On the Left Sidebar window, under Catalog "All Photographs" it shows the correct number of photos in the catalog. However... the strange part... Under "Folders" in the Left Sidebar beneath Catalogs my Main Folder shows "Zero" number of images. But, if I click on a sub root folder where the images reside, they number changes from Zero to the correct number of images and my images reappear on the screen as normal..
The work around... click on every subfolder...
    The solution... Unsure? Help!

  • IPhoto shut down / photos disappeared

After transferring 193 photos, while editing iPhoto shut down unexpectely deleting photos.  Created Event disappeared! The camera was already erased as All photos were imported to the computer.  Any chance of finding photos anywhere or the hard drive?  I am Devasted! Does this issue occur often?

Probably the imported photos are still inside the iPhoto library, in the "Masters" folder.
Try to rebuild the iPhoto Library - how to is described in Old Toad's post here:
See: iPhoto unexpectedly shut down and my photos disappeared!
Where have you been importing from? Your camera? A card reader? An iPhone?
This problem has occasionally been reported after the iPhoto 9.4.3 update. It seems to happen, when the card in a camera has become corrupted and needs reformatting in the camera.
Once you have retrieved your photos - hopefully - reformat the card or use a differentcard.
I nevert use the option to delete the photos in the camera, at the same time that I am importing. I wait till the photos have been imported and checked and backed up, before I delete them from the card. Using the camera to delete photos is better for the filesystem on the card than letting the computer do it.

No early version of iPhoto can open a Library from a later version.
You can try revert the Library with iPhoto Library Manager
