PHOTOS Display order in Albums i4

What should I do to maintain a pre-set order (sequence) of pics upload to my iPhone from my PC?
I have numerically numbered the files in my PC but...on sync the order is
completely altered (at random).
Any help on this subject will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

THANKS FOR YOUR MESSAGE THAT WE FIND HELPFUL.
The issue still remain to be solves as the photos storage in the iphone is
very important especially for sharing pics with friends and relatives.
Chronological order or preferred sequence is important.
Hoping Apple will come up with solution.

  • Sorting Photos Display Order

On my Mac I use Picasa to organise my photos. When I sync this iPad I am not happy with the sort order of photos in my albums and likewise I cannot seem to find a setting to change the choice of image for the album thumbnail.
Am I missing somethin or has Apple missed the opportunity to use drag and drop to change th display order?

Photos are sorted in capture date order (possibly create date), and cannot be sorted in any other order - unless you manipulate their dates. The thumbnails are (at least on my iPad) the oldest photo in each album. If you think Apple have missed something by doing it this way : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • Will Iphoto retain old photo sequence order in albums if I upgrade to newest IOS 5?

I have delayed updating IOS because of previous postings suggesting problems with retaining photo sequence order after the upgrade. Present order does not follow time/date, but has been manually developed in Itunes. Albums will be of little use to me unless I can manually choose the sort order. Ipad 1; I touch.

Only if something goes astray, which happens some times.
    - Backup the iTunes
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Make sure that all synced media like apps and music are in your iTunes library and any photos synced to the iPod are also on your computer. Synced media is not included in the iPod backup that iTunes makes
    Then update vai Tunes
iOS 4: Updating your device to iOS 5 or later
You need iTunes 10.5 or later on the computer.

  • Photo display order on iPad

How is the display order determined after syncing photos to an iPad. I want to have them is a specific order but can't figure out how.

Actually the picture order is based on the order you put them in the folder. (not the sort order but the order you added them to the folder). Create a new folder and first add the picture you want the cover to be and then add as you wish to have them.
The sorting options do absolutely nothing for the iPad photos so you would need to create a new folder.

  • Photo album - image display order

I just figured out how to get a (massive) photo album onto my 3GS (iOS4) but the order the images are displayed in appears to be random. Is there a way to have the photos displayed in chronological order?
    Thanks.
(and now I have just noticed that there is no longer any content in the iPod app, where just before the sync, there was about 10GB. When I hook the phone back up to iTunes, the summary page shows the audio and video correctly, but there is nothing accessible on the phone.)

It seems that iOS devices (or is it just my iPhone 4?) order the photos by file name in stead of not by date. The solution is to rename the photos in Aperture (or iPhoto) based on the date and time taken. In Aperture you can batch change your photos and select version name format: Image Date/Time. It worked! All photos are in order.
Not sure if similar batch renaming is possible in iPhoto, though. Personally, I think the photo order on iOS devices should be based on date and time.

  • Photos sync from iPhone 9.4.2 got wrong display order in iOS 6

First of all, before I updated iPhoto to the newest version 9.4.2, all things worked fine.
I have set iTunes to sync photos to my new iPad from my iPhoto library, and I have create many smart albums. I know the display order of the photos synced to iPad is sorted by the photo's create time. and it's ok for me.
But after I updated to iPhoto 9.4.2, the problem come. The photos in the smart album on iPad got wrong display order. The order now is sorted by rotation! the landscape direction comes first, then the portrait direction after that. After some time study, I found this only affect the photos which are newly imported to iPhoto. The photos imported before I updated the iPhoto work fine.
Then I tried to create a totally new iPhoto library which contains the whole same set of all the photos, and continued to create the same smart albums. After I synced to the iPad again, the display order of all the smart album got wrong! They all sorted by rotation!
The display order in iPhoto itself on my MacBook was fine. The problem only occurs on my iPad.
I tried all my best to figure out why, and failed, then I thought it may be caused by the update of the iPhoto.
Yesterday, I visited Apple Retail Store, and met some geniuses. They didn't solve this either.
    Can anyone help me? Thanks!

After a deep search in this discussions, I found a semiliar discussion in iOS section:

  • Help! Order of photos in a Folder does not match order of albums

I have seen dozens of threads on folders and albums, sorting them etc. However did not quite find an answer to this one.
The question is : Why the order of photos in a Folder does not match with the order of Albums I have created underneath the Folder?
In other words I created a floder and placed within the folder a few albums we will call G, K, C ...etc in the chronological order in which I want to show the pictures. The pictures within the album are not strictly chronological. ( I will explain more if this is an issue)
Next when I click on the Folder, I notice that the photos are grouped by the corresponding Album which is what they should be, however their(photos) order did not correspond to that of the Albums. In other words, in the Folder view, I see photos of K first and then may be G and then may be C. I am not able to change that order to G, K, C..the way I want. This will mess up the slideshow for me.
For clarity, I created each album simply by dragging corresponding event down into the Folder. The events are sorted by date and ascending in View>Sort Events.
    I appreciate any suggestions please!
    Thanks

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks delete the contents the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto, reset its preferences and try the slideshow again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Picasa Web albums: doesn't display all uploaded photos. This only happens on my desktop computer. All photos displayed on my laptop.

Not all of my uploaded photos display in my Picasa web album. All the photos upload, but 17 out of 90 photos don't display. Some are landscape, some are portrait. This is no pattern to what doesn't display (e.g., not every third photo). This only happens when I use my desktop computer. When I use my laptop, all uploaded Picasa web album photos display.

  • I am trying to burn a DVD from an iphoto album, I placed it in the order I want , but it does not burn in that order, and has picked up other photos not in the album

I have created an album of phots, moved into order I want to burn, cd and dvd. It burned out of order in album and also added pictures not in Album highlighted to burn. Also was hard to view all pictures and move more quickly into order to view. I am use to using powerpoint and shows all slides at 1 time small thumnails so easy to move

Re the order on the DIsk:
When you export from iphoto you are in the Finder and that doesn't have the same sorting options as iPhoto. There is no "manual" sorting in the Finder, for instance.
Here's one (of several) way(s) to do what you want:
Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.
Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
Sort on Filename in the FInder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.
    Burn that to the disk.
I'm sorry but I haven't a clue what the rest of your query is about.
    Regards

  • Display artists in alphabetical order and albums in chronological order.

I have my iTunes library set to display artists in alphabetical order and albums in chronological order.  This is the sorting option preferred by every person I've ever spoken to about it.  The touble is nobody I've ever spoken to can tell me how to get my device (4S64, 5.1.1) to follow suit.  iTunes on my phone insists on listing albums alphabetically.  Since I (we) already know all the letters of the alphabet and in which order they occur this kind of sorting is of no benefit.  Somebody please put me (us) out of our misery and reveal whichever secret soft switch must be flipped to make this happen.  Also, if possible, I would rather do the alphabetical "Artist" sorting by last name rather than first but I have not seen an option for that either.
    Thank you in advance.

There is no secret soft switch for Album by Artist by Year on iOS.
If you want your artists sorted by last name first then edit the corresponding sort values.

  • Is it possible to display artist's albums in chronological order instead of alphabetical?

Is it possible to display artist's albums in chronological order instead of alphabetical?

Afternoon rockmyplimsoul, thank you for the info on changing the sorting order - one question though how do you do this on the iPod ?
Even if your artists are sorted in the library in chronological order by release date, which is cool,  when its transferred to the iPod it still gets sorted in alphabetical order. This is frustrating as I like to listen to one artist's music in order of release date, which I cant because its in alphabetical order.
    Can you assist please.
    Thank you
    PS: Config- Thinkpad W510 i7 8GB, Win 7 Pro 32
                        iTunes 11 latest release
22000+ Songs stored in Library in WAV format encoded from original CD's
Painstakingly all Album info and Art were added.

  • How do I rearrange order of photos inside an iPhoto album?

Is anyone having similar problems? I cannot seem to drag them around to change the order of my photos within the album inside iPhoto.
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

I can't get this to work either. Very frustrating for something that I purchased. I might as well have just stuck with the photo album that comes with the Ipad. Can't seem to get any help here, especially when you look at the date of the first message. When I "hold" the photo down on the album it never "wobbles". I don't know what people are talking about when they mention a journal. No instructions on that either.
I'm seeing a general trend where if you but any apple software, you are on your own to learn it. Not good.

  • Altering the metadata of photos to improve display order?

I am having a problem organizing my photos. A few years ago, when I was stuck in PC world, I had a computer crash. I was dumb enough at that time to not have a recent HD backup. A friend of mine removed my hard drive and hooked it up as a slave drive to his computer to salvage many valuable photos, etc... This was in 2004.
So the metadata of all photos up to that date was erased. It was no problem, as at that time I organized my photos through Windows Explorer and was able to file the photos by date manually in the folders.
Now that I use iPhoto for all photo management, I'm having a problem with the display order of the photos. Photos that were taken in 2002 are displayed in the middle of the 2004 photos, because in the "photo info" screen there are no "original" or "digitized" dates. There is only the "modified date" in 2004 because this is when the photos were recovered from the slave drive.
Is there any way to change the metadata in these files to make them show up in the correct chronological order? This is a very annoying situation.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

If you also want to change the Capture Date in the original file you can use PhotoInfo to batch change that date. If all in a folder are the same date you can then have them sequentially index by 1 minute per photo or whatever delta time you'd like. But iPhoto won't recognize that date until those files are imported again. If you don't want to reimport all of those files you can change the dates within iPhoto as Terence described for use within iPhoto and use PhotoInfo just to make sure the original files are up to date and later use outside of iPhoto. Just don't rename any of the files or move them via the Finder while updating the dates.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Is there a way to display the number of pictures or photos in a smart album

when I look at my project view on the left, all of the projects or folders show the number of photos that are in them at a glance. However, on my smart albums, it just shows the looking glass which you can click on to edit the properties. Is there any way for aperture to show the number of photos in a smart album without having to open the smart album and count? Thanks!

No. But when you click on them, the number of images they contain will be at the bottom of the Browser screen and in Split View just above the bar separating the Viewer from the thumbnails.

  • How can I change the order of albums on iphone music app?

Recently went through two iTunes updates that I feel are not in tune with how my music was sorted before. Prior to the first update (forgot how long ago it was and which version it was), under the music app on my iPhone 5S when you tapped on an artist the next page would display all albums under that artist separately. Meaning I was able to play one album at a time. After the update, now when you tap on an artist you get all the albums (with each song under each album) showing on one page all lumped together. I preferred playing each album separately, rather than having the following album play after the previous one. Well, I was able to get over that. That is until the most recent iOS update. Now the album orders reversed completely based on date of release. Whereas before the albums were listed in order based on release date, now the first album that shows up under each artist is sorted by the most current release. This is so ANNOYING; why do they keep changing things around? Is there any way to sort the order so that the albums are listed in order of when they were released?

When syncing folders the photos are ordered by capture date - the only way to alter the order (apart from using iPhoto or Aperture on a Mac) is to amend the photo's capture dates : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221
