Photos don't import

i tunes syncs my music correctly, imports cds, etc but MY PICTURES will not import, even though boxes are checked under PHOTOS.
using latest itunes 8.1

You don't import photos into iTunes. iTunes is simply used to choose the folder or album on your computer that contains photos that you want to sync to your iPod.
Here's a simple "How To" on downloading and managing photos from a folder on your hard disk to an iPod:
1 Create a folder on your hard drive to hold the photos you want on your iPod. Call it iPod Photos for example
2 Drag the photos you want from your usual picture folder into the folder you just created
2 Open iTunes, select your iPod in the iTunes Source list.
3 Click the Photos tab and select “Synch photos from.”
4 Choose “Choose Folder” from the pop-up menu and select the iPod photos folder you created.
5 When you want to change what photos are on the iPod just add or remove the photos from the folder you have made and syncronise the the iPod

  • I have a Nikon S6300 and when I import into iPhoto the photos don't show up in events or photos only in recent imports

I just purchased a Nikon S6300 camera and when I import into iPhoto the photos don't show up in either photos or events only in recent imports.
I have Snow Leopard on my MacMini.

Control-click one of the photos under the Recent import and select "Show Event" in the contextual menu. Or you can use the View ➙ Sort Events menu in the Events mode to reset the sort order so the new import will be either at the top or bottom of the list.

  • Problem importing photos after the new Photos update:  When I drag photos from my desktop, why don't they don't replace the previously imported photos in "Last Import".

When I drag photos from my desktop to the new Photos icon, they don't replace the previously imported photos in "Last Import".

After several attempts, I now find that this is working for me.  I wasn't able to open the IMPORT folder in Photos until I clicked on "Close" from File Menu. Once I was able to open the IMPORT folder and select the photos for import, the new photos appeared in "Last Import."

  • Photos don't get deleted after iphoto import, help

I posted this in the iphoto forums but got not answers....
photos remain on my iphone after have imported them into iphoto and selected 'delete originals' after import
    anyone know a fix?
    thanks!

    me too!
Here is my setup and my steps.
I am running iTunes v9.0.1 and iPhoto '09 v8.1 and Mac OS X 10.6.1 and a first generation iPhone.
    STEPS I TOOK
    1. I plug in my iPhone and iPhoto Launches (as expected)
    2. I see my iPhone in iPhoto under devices and it's selected
    3. I click on Import All…
3a If I tick "Hide photos already imported" on, iPhoto does understand that the Photos have already been imported.
    4. I click on the Import All button and tick "Apply to all duplicates" and choose Don't Import so that I don't end up with duplicates
    5. After all my photos have been imported a window comes up with the message, "Delete Photos on Your Camera?" — I click on Delete Photos
    6. The photos remain on my iPhone. (Arghh!)
I have tried to tell iTunes to "Sync photos from" and chose a small album in the hopes that this would trigger something but it only adds the small album and keeps the photos that are still on my phone that I wish to remove.
Has anyone found any further information on this issue?
    I tried some other things.
-I started up iPhoto while holding down the alt key and created a new Library to isolate my library
    -I created a new library
    -I chose to import
-When prompted I chose to delete the photos from my iPhone
    THIS WORKED! (finally)
OK, something interesting happened this time. On my iPhone, my Photo Album contains a Camera Roll (1) (in brackets there is a one, indicating one photo and next to 'Camera Roll' there is a preview of the last photo I took with the camera. It is not literally the last photo I took with the camera, in fact it is the last photo I took before updating my iPhone - I have updated my iphone twice since that photo was taken. Anyway I click on that photo and I get a blank library on my iphone. Not sure if the preview thumbnail should be there but now my iPhone is blank.
    Next I quit iPhoto.
I relaunched iPhoto (with alt being held down so I can choose my main library - just to be sure of things)
Now that I have all the photos off my iPhone I am happy but this deserves more testing just to be sure this isn't a sticky issue.
Does anyone else have any other ideas on this issue?
PS I had already tried a restore and restarted my iPhone to no avail.
    Thanks

  • Photos indicated in import dialogue as previously imported are not found in catalogue

    Hey there,
I have a photo that I imported recently.  When I search my catalogue for the original NEF file, Lightroom tells me no such photo exists (the find function finds no hits).  So when I try to reimport the photo, lightroom grays out the photo in the import dialogue window, telling me that that photo already exists in the catalogue.  Though it apparently exists in the catalogue, why can't lightroom locate it? Why can't I view it?
Secondly, if I import photos the same way every time (import--copy--original NEF files into catalogue as originals, not as dng), why do XMP files irregularly accompany some files?
    Thanks

    Hey Hal,
Thanks for the tip.  Unfortunately my problem is not an issue with stacking.  I'll try to clarify a bit more.  I have a file (_DSC9805.nef) and its photoshop edited '.TIF' version imported to and saved onto an external hardrive.  When I search for the files, they appear in my macintosh finder directory.  In lightroom, however, the photo doesn't appear--neither when I search for it by sorting photos by capture time, nor when I explicitly search the photo's exact file name; lightroom tells me "no photos mach the filter."  In the case that lightroom lost the photo from the catalogue, I tried reimporting the photo.  This didn't work because lightroom won't allow me to import the photo; the thumbnail is grayed out because the photo file is purportedly already in lightroom.  Could my version of lightroom have a bug or an update failure that perturbes the catalogue like this?  It's like lightroom doesn't recognize it's own photo.  It doesn't even go so far as to indicate a missing photo with a question mark.  It's just not there except for when I try to reimport.  I'm 100% certain I've not made a personal error in my search querries and such, as i've done the search a number of times.  The photo shows up in the macintosh finder, but not the LR catalogue after importing...  Any other ideas or thoughts?
    Thanks

  • Viewing photos to be imported

How do I view and select photos to be imported in iphoto 6? The window is blank. I am importing from a family member's camera and I don't want all 981 of their pics.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
With iPhoto 6 you can't. Instead use Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) to move the selected files to a folder on the desktop and import to iPhoto from there.
This feature was added to later versions of iPhoto.

  • Migration to Photos: Trouble with import from iPhoto Library

I have just upgraded to OS X Yosemite (10.10.3). When I first opened Photos, it wanted to convert my iPhoto Library to Photos. After some hours of working with the 165.2 GB iPhoto Library, it told me that I don't have enough disk space. I believed that if I free my MacBook Pro from those 165.2 GB, I might solve the problem. So yesterday, I stored it on an external USB drive (a solid state drive of OWC with USB 3.0 connection to my MacBook), deleted the iPhoto Library on my harddisk, and opened Photos. In Photos, I chose Menu > File >Import , and navigated to the external drive. However, clicking the file icon and name does not release into any import. What shall I do to import data from my iPhotos Libray?
Suggestions will be most appreciated and rewarded with a virtual box of Mozart Kugeln.

You don't import it, you simply open it:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch Photos. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'

  • My clips don't import in order, how do I make them stay in order?

When I drag a large number of pictures into iMovie (to make a stop-motion video), the order gets all mixed up! How do I stop this from happening?

I have noticed that sometimes when I drag a number of photos into the timeline, the first one in the group gets put in a different spot, usually at the end. I don't know why it happens, and it doesn't seem to have a pattern of occurrence. I just have to check carefully to see where the first photo went. I think iMovie gets easily overloaded and so I don't import over about 60 photos at one time.

No. The photo viewer will ask you if you want to import (copy) all or only selected photos. After the import is done, a dialog box will pop up asking if you want to keep or delete the photos on the card. Select no if you want to keep your photos on the SD card.

  • Older PSD and Tif files don't import

I know I have seen this on the forum, but I could not find it. I am importing all of my archives into Aperture. Some older PSD and Tiff files (pre 2000) just don't import. No warning. Just missing files. This is a bit scary as I can't go through all of the folders 1 by 1 to see what is missing. Is this a known bug....any work arounds. Thanks
    mac book, Dual 2gig G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Maybe. But, frankly, Aperture is not a PSD archiving and workflow appliation. It is a photographic workflow application. Adobe, by nature of having written Photoshop, probably has better support for old Photoshop formats than does Apple.
If you really need to import 40,000 PSD files into something, I would suggest Aperture is not the best tool for you. You want an asset manager or something that specializes in archiving/search. Aperture's raison d'etre is RAW photos, you know, that come from a camera.

  • I cannot close or import or any function to iphoto.  I have been getting the same message for many days "Photos are being imported to the photo library.  Please wait for import to complete."  I do not know where the photos would be importing from.

After Force Quitting, as LarryHN recommended,
Select the iPhoto Library in the Finder. By default it is in your Pictures folder.
Ctrl-click or right-click the iPhoto lIbrary. Select "Show package contents" from the panel, that will pop up.
Look for a folder named "Importing" or "Import". Remove this folder, but don't touch anything else.
    Then launch iPhoto again.
If iPhoto now is working again, check the folder you removed, if there are any photos that you want to keep and save them.

  • LR 4.2: "Don't import suspected duplicates" fails repeatedly

After import from CF card, then next import with "don't import suspected duplicates'' checked, failed many times. You must close and reopen the import window, repeating the operation (one or two times) to make it work properly.

So what you are saying is this:
if filename equals "existing" AND date/time equals "existing" AND file size equals "existing" THEN its a match.
Yep.  And I agree it needs to be better.  You might want to add a feature request at the Official Feature Request/Bug Report Forum
At the risk of necroing a thread, I want to disagree that "it needs to be better" if that translates to "ignores files with small differences in the filename but otherwise the same." From the standpoint of file management, we never, ever want software thinking about this too much. I have encountered multiple situations where i was able to recover from a corrupt file precisely because the software was extremely strict on what it considered to be a duplicate. Put differently, it does not hurt us to have two copies of an important photo, while it can be devastating to have no copies—or one corrupted copy—of an important photo. When importing hundreds or thousands of shots, we absolutely want Lightroom insisting that filename, sixe, and capture date/time be identicial to be considered a duplicate. Otherwise, we want these sorts of decisions left to us. After all, there is a reason that file is different, and it could well be that an atuomated process elsewhere failed and two copies of photo allows us to choose what was the correct image to retain.
Again, sorry for the necro, but I felt this needed to be said.

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

You have to reset the device to Factory Settings in order to restore it from an iCloud backup. You probably want to back it up as is before you do this.
To do the reset after you have backed up the current device, go to Settings>Reset>Reset all Content & Settings. This will erase the device. If you are signed onto iCloud with Find My iPhone turned on, go to Settings>iCloud and scroll to the bottom to sign out of iCloud before you do the reset.
Once you have reset your device, you will set it up like a new phone. When it asks if you want to restore it from an iCloud backup, select the backup you want to restore it from.
