  • Help with Adobe Photo Downloader in PSE 7?

I do not allow PSE 7 to "see" pictures all over my hard drives; I have ONE watched folder called "my picture collection", in which are stored all of my "final copy" pictures, and these are the only pictures in "my catalog".
Since I am using Photoshop Elements to edit, and tag pictures, etc, I would like to use it to get photos from my Camera....however...
I want to import pictures from my camera, or scanner, to a different folder then my "watched folder", to a folder called "my Pictures F drive". I do this because these may be photos I DO NOT want in "My Catalog", such as today, pictures of the insides of an engine.
I can tell Adobe Photo Downloader NOT to open the Organizer after importing the pictures to whatever folder I wish, and organizer does not open; BUT, I am informed that the next time I open PSE 7, the Organizer will display these pictures, which it does. this is what I do NOT want; I don't want Organizer importing these pictues, and including them in "My Catalog" just because I used Photo Downloader to get them from my camera to a completely unrelated folder; NOT my "watched Folder". Is there any way of stopping Organizer from importing ALL photos handled by Photo Downloader?? If I want photos in "My Catalog", I move them into the "Watched Folder", and THEN I want Organizer to find them, and open them up for tagging etc (which it does). I can't find any way of doing this in "Preferences", or options in Photo Downloader. (The alternative would be to use a different program to get the pictures from the Camera, or scanner). Thanks for any assistance!! Maybe I am not seeing something obvious??

I have an older version of Elements, and in that the downloader always runs in the background when it is enabled via preferences. I found this to be annoying and, therefore, disabled this feature.
    My workflow is:
I use a card reader to import pictures from camera card to an empty folder on the desktop
Next, I burn a CD before I do anything else. This is my "film" - can always go back to retrieve an accidentally deleted file.
Then, I delete the obviously poor pictures from the desktop folder - motion, unflattering pose, etc.
Finally, I manually import the "keepers" into organizer, tag them, etc.
You could adapt this scheme to import into the organizer only the pictures which meet the test for  what you call "my picture collection", i.e. those pictures which have been enhanced .
In the older version of Elements, the organizer allows one to make a collection. I believe that it called something else in PEv.7, but it is still there. The advantage of this is that you can assemble a group of photos for a particular purpose, which you do. It also allows you to define the order of the photos in the collection by dragging them into position. Suggest that you consult the help file re same.

  • Downloaded and installed 5.0.1, killed my phone, finally able to restore but lost all apps, photos, etc. help

Downloaded and installed 5.0.1, killed my phone, finally able to restore but lost all apps, photos, etc. help.  Everything I need is on my iTunes page but I cannot sync with iPhone4. Any ideas how I can sync?

If your phone is in recovery mode, you've already lost ALL of the data on the phone. Your only choice now is to restore it from your most recent backup. You follow this by syncing your content back to your phone. Any data, on your phone, not backed up or in supported applications on your computer, is gone. iTunes content you can re-download for free.

  • Help! Photo Downloader Cannot Find Card Reader

Photo Downloader cannot find the card reader, just indicating <none detected> within the Source Selection.  Refreshing the list does not help.  OSX mounts the volume and other applications have no issue finding the volume.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?
    Details:
    MBP 17 (early 2011)
    OSX 10.6.8
    PSE9
    Lexar Pro ExpressCard CF Reader
    Thanks a bunch!

Mac OSX can R/W to FAT32 and NTFS volumes, no problem.
Image Capture does not detect the memory card in ExpressCard reader.  I think this is because Image Capture supports only USB and Firewire ports and not ExpressCard.
I can manually copy the images from the ExpressCard reader using File>Get Photos>From Files and Folders with no issues but with this multi-step method it is quite a nuisance when Photo Downloader should do this in one step.
From what I understand about using Photo Downloader is it will automatically create new subfolders in the destination folder with the new subfolder names based on the shoot date of the image, it will automatically copy the image files from the memory card to these new subfolders and it will automatically import the images into PSE Organizer. This seems to be hugh advantage for using Photo Downloader.
BTW, Canon ImageBrowser MemoryCard Reader Utility has no issues with the ExpressCard reader.  I just want the ability to use Photo Downloader without having the extra step of using the Canon application.
I can connect the camera via the USB port and Photo Downloader detects the camera images without issue.  But it is a pain to have the DSLR plugged into the laptop in addition to the slow transfer speed.
I think the issue is with Photo Downloader not supporting the Mac ExpressCard slot.  I hope I'm wrong about this.
And I wonder why Photo Downloader does not have a manual browse method in addition the the automatic method to select the source location?
    Thanks for the suggestions.

  • Emailed photos not downloading - help!

Where do my emailed photos download to in the ipad2? I can't find them and/or they're not downloading correctly? HELP!

While the backup stores some if not all the photos in the camera roll (many users have lost photos when doing a restore from iCloud), the issue is that the user must somehow sync photos to their computers (e.g. via USB to iPhoto or Aperture on a mac or a specified folder on a PC) in order to back them up.  Once on a computer, you can then move them to albums/folders as you like.  But you must back them up to a computer to be sure they are safe.  If you haven't done that, then chances are good that they are lost.

  • Photo Downloader does not detect Thunderbolt connection. Help!

I am using Bridge CS5.1 on MacBook OSX 10.8.3. I bought a Seagate Thunderbolt Adapter which works with 2.5" eSATA hard drives (Seagate Backup Plus). Instead of connecting a 2.5" eSATA to this Thunderbolt Adapter to my Mac, I am doubling this thunderbolt connection as a CF card reader by swapping the eSATA portable drive with a CF to eSATA Adapter instead. Photo Downloader does not detect anything connected through thunderbolt!?
When the CF card or portable drive is connected via the TB adapter, it appears in Bridge and Finder. The Canon's Image Browser (Memory Card Utility) detects only the CF card (not the portable drive) as a Camera and downloads the images from the CF card via the thunderbolt adapter with no issues. I would prefer Bridge to download the images due how the folder names are created by Bridge. (I have been using Bridge for few years now and dont want to change the naming convention. Can't seem to find a way for Canon to name it exactly the same as Bridge. It does YYYY_MM_DD amd I cant get rid of the underscores in Canon's software)
How can I get Photo Downloader (File: Get Photos from Camera...) on Bridge CS5.1 to detect the Thunderbolt connection as a Camera?
Excuse my messy desk, here's a pic of the set up with the CF card plugged into the CF to eSATA adapter : and onto the Seagate TB Adapter. and the TB cable goes into the Mac

It works perfectly well. My issue is getting Adobe Bridge 5.1 to recognise the CF card via thunderbolt in photo downloader.
Despite having bought a MacPro just a few months ago I still have no Thunderbolt connection so i can't confirm this.
I do know Photodownloader has not changed a bit since it was presented long time ago and definitively needs a lot of improvement.
It is very possible that Photodownloader is not capable detecting thunderbolt connections and Canon software doing so does almost proof APDL does not do so.
You can try to dive in the user library (by default hidden, use menu Go and press option to reveal it) and in the folder preferences find and delete the Photodownloader plist file manual.
    restart photodownloader and try again.
The other option is to use a USB 3.0 or Firewire (both also pretty fast).
The third option is to use Bridge itself for renaming the files you imported manual. Using the sort order creation date and batch rename use the option for shot date (yymmdd-number or other info) and either organize with stacks or create folders.
There is also a nice app (not free but cheap called 'big mean folder machine" from the same team that offers 'A better finder rename'.
Both offer plenty of options that makes life easier, such as producing folders with specific naming and order in no time

What iOS devices support Live Photo?
The iPhone, iPad2 and later, and iPad Mini, and iPod Touch 5th generation on iOS 6.0 and above.   The app runs in 2X mode on iPad devices.  Currently, HP Live Photo is supported in the US in English only.
Do I need an iOS or Android device to both create and view Live Photos?
Yes.  Currently Live Photos may only be created and viewed on iOS or Android devices at this time.
Can I use any video in Live Photo?
You may use any video recorded on your mobile device using the video function, up to 45 seconds in length.  If the video is longer than 45s, the HP Live Photo app will allow you to select a 45 second or less segment from the video.
Where are the Live Photo videos saved when I create a Live Photo?
The videos for your Live Photos are saved over the internet to the cloud.  The original video on your device is not affected or modified in any way.  HP Live Photo is not a video backup solution, so be sure to save images and videos using your own storage solutions.   The live photo videos are not saved to your Facebook account.
When I share a Live Photo via email or Facebook is the video included in the email or post?
No.  Only the Live Photo is included in the email or Facebook post.  The video is only accessed from the cloud when the HP Live Photo app is used to scan a Live Photo.
If I print a Live Photo to give to family/friends, how will the recipient know how to view it?
The HP Live Photo app allows you to choose between printing just the Live Photo itself, or printing the Live Photo and a set of simple instructions for your recipient on 4x6 or 5x7 photo paper.  The instructions explain how to install the HP Live Photo app and view the Live Photo.
Can I share my Live Photos with anyone?
Yes.  You can share with any friends/family using a live photo nametag.  Even easier, if you log into Facebook from the Live Photo app your Facebook friends are automatically enabled to view any live photos you share with them without having to enter your Live Photo nametag.
What is a Live Photo Nametag?
A Live Photo nametag allows you to share live photos with friends and family who are not a Facebook friend.   The Live Photo app will prompt you to create your own custom nametag. This nametag allows Live Photo users who are not your Facebook friends to view  your live photos.
Your nametag is printed on the bottom right corner of all your live photos.  When you share your live photo with someone who is not a Facebook friend, they can simply enter your nametag in the nametag field on the View screen of the Live Photo app, and then view any of your live photos you share with them.  This is a one-time operation - once your friend or family member enters your live photo nametag they will be able to view any of your live photos.  Anyone who is a Facebook friends can view your live photos w/out having to enter your nametag.
How do I print a Live Photo from an iOS device?
You can print Live Photos from the Live Photo app on your iOS device in the same way you print other photos on iOS, using the built-in iOS Airprint feature. Airprint supports a range of printers from HP and other companies.  If you need help with Airprint, follow the steps in “How do I send a print job using Apple AirPrint?” section in these instructions.
How do I print a Live Photo from an Android device?
Printing from Android devices is supported via the HP ePrint app, and is currently only enabled for HP printers. (See the next section for printing to non-HP printers or printers not supported by the HP ePrint app.)  The ePrint app must be installed separately from the Live Photo app, and supports all web-connected HP printers released in the past several years and many legacy HP printers.  If the HP ePrint app is not installed on your Android device you will be prompted to install it when you select the Print option in the Live Photo app.  For more information see the HP ePrint app in the Google Play store.
Note on HP ePrint app Activation: After the HP ePrint app completes installing you will be prompted by the HP ePrint app to Activate it.  You do not have to complete the “Activation” step in the HP ePrint app to print to your local wi-fi connected HP printers.  HP ePrint app Activation is only required if you wish to print to HP web-connected printers on your HP Connected or HP ePrintCenter account, over an internet connection.
Once the HP ePrint app is installed, when you select Print from the Live Photo app the HP ePrint app will be automatically launched w/the live photo displayed and ready to print.  All you have to do is select an HP printer on your wi-fi network, ensure you have photo paper inserted, and hit print.
Can I print from my Android device to non-HP printers and HP printers that the ePrint app does not support?
Yes.  There are some third-party printing apps available for Android devices in the Google Play store (one example is Printershare).  If your HP printer is not supported by the HP ePrint app, or if your HP printer compatible is not compatible with the HP ePrint app, you may be able to use a third-party print app to print your HP live photos.
Send the photo to yourself via the Share via email option from Live Photo.  Then open the email on your phone and tap on the photo when it displays after downloading. Select the Android Menu option and choose Share. Your print app should appear on the Share list.  Select the print app and complete your print as you normally do using that app.
Can I print Live Photos from my computer?
Yes.  Simply share your photo via email from the Live Photo app to your own email address and then open the email and print the live photo as you normally do from your computer. You can print live photos from your computer to any printer you have attached to it that supports photo printing.
Can I print Live Photos on plain paper?
Always print Live Photos on photo paper to provide the necessary color, saturation, and depth for the best Live Photo experience.  You may have success printing on plain paper, but results will be much less predictable.
Do I need a Facebook account to use HP Live Photo?
Viewing: No. A Facebook account is not required to view live photos using the Live Photo app.
Creating: No.  A Facebook account is not required to create Live Photos.  You can create and share them using your Live Photo Nametag.  However:  If you create live photos without logging into Facebook, we cannot make your live photos available to you in the Live Photo app on other devices.  Any live photos you create on a device using just a Live Photo nametag will be added to your Live Photo gallery and available on other devices if you sign into the app using Facebook.
Do I need an internet connection to use this app?
Yes, HP Live photo requires an internet connection for launch/use.
I played the introduction video in the app but why is there no sound – what’s wrong?
Make sure that you have sound enabled on your iOS device...if you are set to virbrate mode you will not hear audio with the video.
How can I provide feedback on Live Photo features that I’d like added or changed?
In the HP Live Photo app, select Settings and scroll down to the Send Feedback option.  We would love to hear from you!  Note that this option is for feedback and is not monitored for support questions.  For support questions see the
Printing Live Photos, Troubleshooting, and Support sections below.

Printing Live Photos shared via Facebook:
It’s usually easiest to save the photo from Facebook and then print it on your computer or device.
Computer: Select the photo and select “Options>Download” to save the photo to your computer.
Mobile: Long-press on the photo and select “Save Photo” to save the photo to your device.
After saving the Live Photo print it as you normally print on your computer or device.
Printing Photos Directly from Facebook on Your Computer:
You may also want to try the HP Facebook Photo and Album printing option to print live photos from Facebook shares.
However, it may be simpler to save and print the photo from your computer or device using a process that you are more familiar with.
    https://apps.facebook.com/hpprint/
    TROUBLESHOOTING
    Create:
Can I change the images that the app pulled from the video for the Live Photo?
It is not possible to directly select a specific frame of the video to print as the Live Photo.  You can try the refresh button in the upper-right corner of the “Choose Image” screen to re-scan your video.
What can I do if the HP Live Photo app is unable to find an image in my video for the Live Photo?
The most likely reason for not finding an appropriate image to print for the Live Photo is that the content of the video does not provide enough contrast.  For example, a video of a white dog walking on the sidewalk, or black dog walking on asphalt.  The best way to try to resolve this issue is to shoot the video with more lighting to increase the contrast.  You can also try to include a few “still shots” in the video where camera and subject movement is minimized.
What if I don’t want to share the entire video?
After you select your video, you can use standard iOS video trim functions within the HP Live Photo app to choose your desired begin and end points.
What if my video is longer than 45 seconds?
The HP Live Photo app will display the video trim controls automatically with a 45 second segment selected so you can choose what portion of the video to include.
Can I use a video from another source?
HP Live Photo currently only supports videos created on your iOS device.
It’s taking a very long time to save my Live Photo project.  What can I do to speed it up?
Saving the project requires uploading both the video clip and the photo, and completing several tasks in the cloud to link the Live Photo to the video. Depending on the length of your video and the speed of your internet upload connection (which can vary significantly over time), this can take several minutes.
If you are on Wi-Fi and the save is taking more than five minutes or not completing, try changing to 3G or 4G, which usually have faster upload speeds than home or public Wi-Fi connections.  (Data charges may apply.)  You can also try using a shorter video clip.   (If you are interested, you can use services like www.speedtest.net to test your Wi-Fi and 3G/4G upload speeds.)
How do I view or share Live Photos I’ve already created?
Select the Live Photos option (icon looks like a small stack of photos) in the Live Photo app to view the Live Photos you have created.  Select one of them to view the photo and choose a print or share option.
How do I delete a Live Photo from my list of saved Live Photos?
iOS:  Go to the Live Photo tab and slide your finger left-to-right on the Live Photo you want to delete.  A “Delete” button will appear – select it to delete the photo.
Android: Select the Live Photo icon (at the top of the Live Photo app, looks like a stack of photos) to view your live photos.  Long press on a live photo a context menu will appear with Delete and Share options.  Select the Delete option.

I’m having problems printing a Live Photo that was shared to me.
See the Printing Live Photos section above for general information and assistance with printing HP Live Photos.
Can I use the app to view a Live Photo on my computer screen?
Yes.  If you share the Live Photo via email or Facebook, recipients can use the HP Live Photo app to view the Live Photo on screen and see the video.  Results can be affected by the monitor display resolution and type, as well as ambient lighting.
My friend doesn’t have an iOS or Android device.  Can I share my Live Photo with her?
At this time an iOS or Android device is required to view the videos associated with your Live Photos.
I just need the viewing instruction sheet – how can I print that?
Go into app Settings and scroll down and select the “Print Instructions” option.  If you prefer not to print the instructions on 4x6 or 5x7 media, remove photo media from the photo tray before you send the print.
    View:
I have a Live Photo that does not play when I view it through the HP Live Photo app.  What’s wrong?
Below are some reasons why this could occur:
The photo is not an HP Live Photo.  Look for the small blue icon of a bird in the lower-right corner of the photo to confirm it is a Live Photo.
The person who created the Live Photo must be either one of your Facebook friends, or you must connect to them by entering their nametag (printed on the bottom-right of the live photo) in the View screen in the Live Photo app.
The Live Photo needs to be printed on photo paper for best results.
Ensure sufficient light is available for viewing, and minimize any glare or shadows on the photo.
The creator of the Live Photo may have deleted the Live Photo project from their app.  Contact them to confirm it is still available.
An internet connection that is too slow/unstable.
Can I view Live Photos with other augmented reality apps?
No.  HP Live Photo requires the HP Live Photo app to view the images and display the video.

I did a search on this error code (c0000005) and there seems to be a workaround but no solutions, why is this? I ask that because this problem seems to be years and years old, going back to at least 2005 (do the math that is 10 years).
I don't even have the Camera hooked up and I get this error on download.  I redownloaded everything and reinstalled.  I allso saw the AVI issues reported with this proble so i updated Quicktime though without the camera being hooked up when I get this error I didn't expect that to work.  I tried support and they wouldn't help because I bought it in March this year.  Pretty frustrating as I have re-purchased Elements about every 2 years.  I think I might need a new CODEC?   I had this problem on an Earlier version And I seem to remember that being the Fix but this may be something completely different

I finally found that it was missing a picture so the Catalog was "corrupted".  I just deleted the picture and it started working.
I hate Adobe and their total lack of support - thanks for nothing Adobe .  Also get this - they offered me to upgrade to 13.0 ( My 12.0 is only 6 months old  but they still don't support it on errors.  Only install errors!
I have upgrade and repurchase this product 4 times now.  I will find something else next time!

  • Adobe Bridge CS3 photo downloader won't auto-open.

    Hi,
    This is my mystery:
I can open Bridge/File/Get Photos From Camera/, and select my cf card drive. But the Photo Downloader box USED to pop up when I first put my card in the reader. This does not happen any more - and I can't figure out why, or how to reset it.
    Any ideas?
    Bridge 2.1.1.9
    Windows XP Pro 64-bit
    Thanks,
    Karl G

This may add Bridge to your list of "Open XXX with" programs.
    1) Using Windows Explorer, browse to any of the photographs on your system - not necessarily on your camera card. It's helpful if all of your photographs are JPGs or TIFs, but not necessary.
    2) Right-click one of the photo files and select "Properties".
    3) Near the top of that dialog is "Open with <program name>", and there should be a "Change..." button to the right of that. Click the Change button.
    4) On the "Open With" dialog, click the "Browse..." button and browse to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CS3\Bridge.exe and click OK.
    5) Now, still on the "Open With" dialog, make sure the "Always use the selected program..." check-box is turned OFF. (If you can't turn it off, that shouldn't be a problem.
    6) Click OK and then close your Windows Explorer.
At this point, you should be able to complete step 6) from my previous post. (Of course you'll have to follow all of those steps from my previous post.)

  • CS4 Photo downloader - can I change the default path?

I'm using Bridge on Windows 7 x64. I have 2 hard drives exclusively for photographs. I never, ever store them in 'C:\Users\Mary\Pictures'.   But when I download images with the Photo Downloader, C:\Users\Mary\Pictures' is the folder I'm offered. There's no box in which to paste a folder string - and it takes 9 clicks (including a couple in the scroll bar of the dialog box) to navigate to 'S:\Pictures, Initial\2 - Initial Negative Scans\2010 Initial Scans\[current subfolder]'.  Is there any way of making the downloader believe that I always want to download to S:\Pictures,  Initial\2 - Initial Negative Scans\2010 Initial Scans\....? I'm used to editing the Registry, but I can't find anything to edit in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Preferences.  Thanks  Mary

Curt  You're right, it is something in Win 7.
I remembered that I have CS4 on my laptop, which is still running WinXP, and tried the Photo Downloader there. It had remembered the last folder I pointed it to, way back in September.
I then found a note telling myself what I had done to stop Bridge from using the c:\docs & settings\.....my pictures folder in XP. I'd used a utility that changes your default pictures, videos, etc., folders to whatever you want them to be.
I never keep anything in them, so I  used the utility in Win 7  to change the default Pictures folder to 'S:\Z\ Pictures'.  When I opened Bridge Photo Downloader, the 'location' folder was  now 'S:\Z\ Pictures'. I navigated from there to 'S:\Pictures,  Initial\2 - Initial Negative Scans\2010 Initial Scans', created a subfolder, uploaded some raw files from the card reader, closed Bridge, and rebooted.
When I re-opened Bridge and the Photo Downloader, it still pointed to my last used folder. Triumph!
Thanks for your help. I wouldn't have got there without it.
I'll look on the Windows 7 forum to find out whether there's a less drastic way of doing this. After all, some people may want to keep their C:\Users\[user]\Pictures folder for non-Photoshop pix. There should be a way of doing it.

  • Adobe BRIDGE CS 5 PHOTO DOWNLOADER freezes and/or stops working during download after 2 years of use

Adobe BRIDGE CS 5 PHOTO DOWNLOADER freezes and/or stops working during download after 2 years of use. I have uninstalled/re installed twice, cleaned system, adjusted Bridge settings with no change. And I have found no helpful troublshooting tips in forum or on web.

Does it freeze with other type of cards.  Have seem some post that suggest an imbedded CODEC on the flash card can cause file corruption in Bridge and Mac Finder.
To access the crash log it is officially called the event log.  To access us OS Help.

  • CS3 Bridge Photo Downloader Problem

DNG Converter is Missing or corrupt. Reloaded CS3 and DNG Converter continues to be grayed out. Reloading message was: Errors: 1 component
X Adobe Photoshop CS3 Component Install Failed.
Anyone able to help how I can reinstate DNG converter to the Bridge Photo Downloader will be appreciated.

The stand alone DNG converter works perfectly.  Saving as a dng from within Camera Raw works perfectly also.
Here is the story from the beginning...maybe something is relevent.  Everything had worked fine up until the week that I decided to install Nikon View that came with a point and shoot.  Being a Canon shooter, I was merely curious about the "Dark Side"  LOL.  After the installation, when I would insert a memory card into my card reader, the Photo Downloader would not open automatically as before.  Since the only change that I had made was the Nikon View installation, and since I had checked it out without finding anything useful, I uninstalled Nikon View.  Photo Downloader still did not open automatically.  I searched the internet for a solution.  The first thing I tried was a reinstall (a repair actually) of CS3.  No change.  I did the reset procedure on Bridge and nothing changed. I finally figured out that the Auto Run settings in Windows XP had been changed somehow.  I corrected that , and Photo Downloader opens automatically again.  But the convert to dng is greyed out.  This leads me to believe that maybe there is something missing in a folder belonging to Bridge, but I can not find anything obvious.
This is mainly a convenience issue.  It is easier to convert to dng upon import, plus there are user definable dng settings that are available via Photo Downloader that are not in the free stand alone converter.
I appreciate any info and assistance.
