Photos downloaded from mail

If I mail a photo to my iPod Touch, and then try to save the photo to the device, the image is grainy. It's like low resolution. Yet I know the file is surely large enough to fill the small screen. Any thoughts?
Thanks

It's a bug that was supposedly fixed a few firmware versions ago. It wasn't. You can browse to them on your computer and then upload them that way.

Uncheck the reopen box and it should stop this from happening

  • Quality of photos downloaded from web gallery

If someone downloads a photo from my web gallery, what quality is the photo? When you share a photo through email it asks you if you want to send it "Actual Size", "Large (higher quality), Medium, etc. Also, is the quality of a photo downloaded in a web gallery the same as a photo downloaded from my iWeb website?

If you select the option to let others download photos from the web gallery they will be downloading the full sized, pixel-wise, image. However, there will have been some jpg compression on the file. iPhoto does that so as to speed up uploading time and not fill up the iDisk as fast. The amount of compression is 9 on a scale of 1 to 12 where 12 is the highest quality. This was determined by saving the same file with Photoshop to different quality levels and comparing.
I was hardpressed to see any degradation in image until I compared them side by side at about 200% magnification. Exposure histograms for each image were the same.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Photos downloaded from my camera get stored in PhotoStream

Some of my recent photos downloaded from my camera (not from my Iphone) got stored into "PhotoStream2 and into "Events", how can I avoir having them going to PhotoStream ? Shouldn't it be only pictures takes from my Iphone that go to Photostream ?
    Thanks for your help
    Jenny

Aperture and iPhoto uploads the photos to Photo Stream, so this is the reason. Deactivate it in System Preferences > iCloud, but it deactivates the download of photos in iCloud

  • When I try to print a photo downloaded from Facebook in iPhoto, I can't get the size I specify to print correctly. Example: 5x7 prints smaller than 5x7. What do I do to solve this problem?

When I try to print a photo downloaded from Facebook in iPhoto, I can't get the size I specify to print correctly. Example: 5x7 prints smaller than 5x7. What do I do to solve this problem?

Those pixel dimemsions have aspect ratios that are not the same as a 5 x7 print:
    1360 x 1360 = 1.0
    790 x 640 = 1.23
    2048 x 1366 = 1.5
    An 7 x 5 image = 1.4.
So you'll need to crop the images to 5 x 7 before printing.  The first two images are a little light in the pixels to produce a high resolution 5 x 7 print.

  • Lion: import photo´s from Mail to iPhoto

    hi all...
if i save new photo´s from mail directly to iPhoto, they lose their cam & geo data.
save to desktop and import manual will work fine
    at snow leopard it works
    thx for help

First, stop using the card in the camera. Some companies provide photo recovery software with their cards. If not here are some photo recovery programs, I've never used them though. You might also try a Google search for "SD card photo recovery" as some businesses provide this.

Where could I find the file been download from mail?

Unless you've got an app that supports the file type, and you've used Mail's 'open in' function (by holding the attachment and selecting where to store/copy the file), then the file/attachment will only be attached to the email itself in the Mail app.

  • Sending photo attachments from Mail to Gmail

I've been sending photo attachments via Mail for years and haven't had trouble until recently. Now I'm getting complaints from Gmail users that the attachments come through as embedded files. I guess on the Gmail end, they don't see it listed out as an attachment, but as part of the mail body. What's going on here?
I attach files same as I always have - by clicking on "attach", then selecting the file(s) I want to attach. I always leave "send windows friendly attachments" selected (although in an experiment, I tried sending it without clicking that, and the images came over all stretched out and shrunken in a very strange way).
I can't think of what would be happening, but I'm assuming it's something in either the way Mail or Gmail is treating the photos - and I'd like to have them come through as attachments, rather than embed files (I'm a photographer and have heard from some of my clients that the embed is a pain - they have to "save as" right click on each image rather than just select "save attachments" or something).
    Any ideas??

Send to these recipients using only Plain Text, and all should be well. To test choose a message you previously sent from the Sent mailbox, open, click on Message in the menubar, choose Send Again, then click on Format and choose Make Plain Text.
Rich Text as received by those using Outlook or Outlook Express, as two examples, will see the RTF as HTML, and the attachments will appear embedded -- although they are not.

  • Photos saved from Mail to iPhoto won't display

I recently converted my niece from a PC to an new 14 inch iBook. She has 10.4.2 and all the latest software updates. When she clicks on the "Save" button in Mail her photos do not appear in iPhoto. After proving to myself this was really happening, I found the missing photos. They are being saved at the root level in the iPhoto folder-not in the respective photo folders. I suspect that this is the problem but I don't know why or how to fix it. I tried saving photos from Mail on a couple of other Macs at my house and the feature seems to work fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Hi Joseph, the feature works fine for me too.
the only info I could find was this.
"Add to iPhoto" button in Mail and keyword search in spotlight don't work
If she does have the latest iPhoto, then all I can suggest is to use Disk Utility to repair permissions. If that doesn't work, then just have her drag the images in the email to the desktop, then import them into iPhoto from there.

  • Photos downloaded from SD card unaccessible "because the volume on which it resides is currently offline"

This has happened multiple times such that I can't share any photos except those I uploaded to Aperture from my iPhone. All of my cameras use SD cards. They show up in Aperture and I download them to a new project. The project appears, goes through the download process. Aperture then asks me if I want to delete the files and I do (yes, multiple times I have done this, foolishly not recalling that 2 months prior this happened).
The files appear and can be rotated but not otherwise edited, not shared, not located, not exported. There are no files on the SD cards. The files however have great resolution on my screen - it's clear they are not just thumbnails.
    Please help! This really *****.

thanks for this Léonie. at least i'll get the previews. it points to the SD card. unfortunately aperture deleted all of the files on the SD card ... so i'm not sure what it's pointing at.
assuming those files are irretrievable (you'll be a hero to me if they aren't [??]),
You only let Aperture delete the files from the card and did not reformat the card in the camera, right?
Then put the card into a card reader and use a media recovery program to look for image files on the card. I am not sure, if Disk Drill will work for SD cards, but usually it is quite good at retrieving image files.

  • Photo Downloader from CD/DVD-ROM?

A few years ago I backed up my old RAW files onto CD's and DVD's. Now, I'd like to convert them to DNG and copy them to my server's hard drives. I was hoping to be able to use the Photo Downloader to accomplish this, by using the same workflow I use when getting the images off of compact flash. I was surprised to see that I was unable to select my CD-ROM as the source. Is there a way around this? Am I missing something? Any suggestions for another way to do this?

It's not a matter of unpacking. I need to convert them to DNG, rename, and place them in the right folders. I currently use Photo Downloader to do this, but it only seems to see 'removable disks'. My photos are on CD's and DVD's.

  • How to view the photos downloaded from gmail in ipod touch later and how to transfer themto system??

i have downloaded the image from my gmail account in ipod touch but unable to transfer it to the system and view it again on the ipod touch plz help me the procedure to be followed to perform these two actions

    From the Users Guide;
    Viewing attachments
iPod touch displays image attachments in many commonly used formats (JPEG, GIF, and TIFF) inline with the text in email messages. iPod touch can play many types of audio attachments, such as MP3, AAC, WAV, and AIFF. You can download and view files (such as PDF, webpage, text, Pages, Keynote, Numbers, and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents) that are attached to messages you receive.
View an attached file: Tap the attachment to open it in Quick Look. You may need to wait while it downloads before viewing.
    Open an attached file
Touch and hold the attachment, then choose an app to open it. If neither Quick Look nor your apps support the file, you can see the name of the file but you can’t open it.
Save an attached photo or video
Touch and hold the photo or video, then tap Save Image or Video. The item is saved to your Camera Roll album in the Photos app.

  • HP Photosmart 8250 will no longer recognize photos downloaded from Facebook. Any ideas?

I used to download and print photos from Facebook, but the HP Photosmart 8250 will no longer recognize these files on the SD card.  I believe Facebook recently updated it's photo format (incidentally, older images on Facebook still work fine).  Any ideas?
I'm running Windows XP, and have not changed anything on my setup.

The troubleshooting steps in this document may help resolve the issue of black not printing.  If not see the post here.

  • Photo downloading from iweb

When I set up my web page, I'm pretty sure I had set it up so that people could view my photos, but would be unable to downloads the photos from my site. Recently though, it seems that this has changed. How do I prevent this from happening?

Yes I have and there is no button on the published website.
One of the tricks I read about in this forum to stop people control clicking a photo to download it goes like this...
Drop another photo over the one you want to protect and drag it out to exactly cover it. Select this "cover" photo and in the "objects" inspector pull the opacity slider down to 1%. Your "real" photo will appear but when control clicked in a browser the "cover" photo is downloaded. As you can imagine a lot of fun can be had by all!
I know this is not a practical solution for a large number of photos but you could at least use it on the ones you think somebody might steal.
The standard protection is to put a copyright notice on each photo so that, if somebody does use it for commercial purposes, you have legal recourse.
eg Copyright © Roddy McKay - 2007 - All Rights Reserved
Put this in a text box on the photo itself so that it is downloaded as part of it.
The copyright symbol © is done by typing "option" g. I use an application called Typinator which lets me type an abbreviation to achieve the copyright notice. This speeds up this process. There are applications out there for the specific purpose of watermarking photos. Try a Version Tracker search.
