Photos duplicated as thumbnails

Most or all of my iPhoto library somehow copied itself. if i click on the thumbnails, onewill open looking pixilated and corrupted, the other will oepn fine. from the thumbnail image, they look identical. when i sort my photos by roll, the seemingly identical pictures appear under two separate headings: one says something like "Original Pictures," followed by a date; the other says "Thumbnail images," followed by the same date. it's the ones labeled thumbanil that are opening in the pixilated/corrupt version. what is going on here, and i can safely delete the ones labeled thumbanil? i should ahve about 8000 pictures, but my library is saying i have over 16000. i think they somehow got duplicated when i transfered my iPhoto library to an external hard drive. for the record, i am in iPhoto 4, and also am thinking of upgrading to the latest version--not sure if that is smart or not.

If you have 17,000 photos in one iPhoto Library, iPhoto is going to be slow especially with your iMac.
You might consider creating several iPhoto Library folders using one of these

When you can see the thumbs but not the actual file, and iPhoto is telling you 0 file size, it means iPhoto cannot find the file. Did you make any changes at all to the iPhoto Library Folder via the finder. You should never do that because it will totally confuse iPhoto and likely prevent access to your photos.

1) why is this not an automatic feature? I mean, do I have to manually trash that folder every time I do modifications and need to sync them or is it supposed to autoupdate automatically sometimes?
You shouldn't have to. This should update automaically.
I see that my thumbnails are not synched aswell. In iPhoto Events/Albums I can select a thumbnail. However, on my iOS devices photo library, the thumbnail is the first photo of the Event/Album. Any chance to syncautomatically the same thumbnail I have in iPhoto
I have no idea. I'd ask that on a forum for your Phone/Pad/Pod...

When a Event is selected, only one large photo shows (no thumbnails)

When I updated to iLife 08 (iPhoto 7.01) all worked well in iPhoto. Then a couple days ago when pulling a few photos to my desktop from an Event thumbnail section, I accidently mis-clicked the dragged photos to the thumbnails window and now ALL Events do not show thumbnail inside. Only one large photo. I can scroll through these with my arrow keys. Also, when I select Photos instead of Events in the Library, only a large photo shows here as well. I've tried to resore iPhoto with no change. Also I have tried to rebuild the thumbnail cashe with no change as well. How can I restore to the thumbnail view option within each Event?

I am also having the same problem since yesterday. I am not able to see the Thumbnails in Events. Making changes in the Preferences to "Show Event Photos" also doesn't do anything.
Any idea to restore this

Photos duplicating on iphone and ipad

Since the new update I am finding all my photos duplicated on the ipad and iphone. Any suggestions what is causing this? Does it have to do with photo streaming? The don't appear to be duplicated on the iMac.

Where are you seeing the duplicates? Are you seeing your photos twice in the camera roll or once in the photo Stream and once in the Camera Roll?
In which albums are the duplicates?
Are photos taken the device duplicated or photos synced to your devices?
If photos taken on your devices are duplicated it could be caused by taking HDR photos. If you have set the option "Settings > Photos & Camera > Keep Normal Photo", your HDR photos will appear twice..
Keep the normal photo in addition to the HDR version. Go to Settings > Photos & Camera > Keep Normal Photo. Both the normal and HDR versions of the photo appear in Photos. HDR versions of photos in your Camera Roll are marked with “HDR” in the corner.

Lightbox -- Multiple photos from one thumbnail?

What I want to do is create a lightbox that launches a set of multiple photos from one thumbnail. Is this possible? All I have been able to do is create a lightbox that display's all of it's contents as thumbnails on my page. I am creating a portfolio page and I want each project's images to launch from one thumbnail. All of the projects would then be able to appear on one page. The work-around of course would be to make a separate page for each project, and make a lightbox within each one of these pages. Any solutions for this? Thanks!

You can achive this by combining the Composition Lightbox Widget with the Slideshow Widget.
01. Add Lightbox Display widget from the Composition section in the Widget Library
02. For each small grey box (the Trigger) add your thumbnail
03. In the larger grey box (the Target) add your Slideshow Widget (anyone you'd like from the Widget Library)
04. Replace images with the images you want for your slideshow

Photo gallery with Thumbnail View in Flex 3

Hello everyone
I very urgently need an answer to a very simple qeuestoon. I have been trying really hard since days to get a solution to this simple problem but in vain.
I am building an application in Flex 3. I simply want to create a photo gallery with a thumbnail where when the user clicks on a thumbnail, the image is shown in the canvas/tab navigator box next to it. The images are stored in a local folder (in src) are ARE NOT on available on any web link.
The Vbox with the thumb image and the .xml file has been created. But when I click on the thumbnail, the full image cannot be seen in the application. I dont know if this is a problem with data binding or what.
Please help!!!

Check the folder structure
Flash is not able to get some file thats why the IO Error.
trace the url path just before u load the file and u will be abel to find whether that file is in specified folder or not.

How to transfer photo gallery with thumbnails from Fireworks?

I am trying to create a website. I am using Dreamweaver CS3
and for my main homepage I used one of their templates.
From my main page I give a link to photo gallery. I intend to
build a gallery in Fireworks as I will need a thumbnails for my
photos.
My question is how can I transfer the created gallery to
Dreamweaver CS3? I need the same template I used for my homepage
for my gallery?

save then in an outside folder.
next inside the directory you use for your web files create a
directory
with either the sme name as the outside folder or name
desired open that
directory.
Open up Dreamweaver and create a Blank HTML page.
Now go to Commands menu and and choose create web Photo
album...
next a menu will pop up and ask directory where images are
located. Then
will ask the destination directory browse to the new
directory you
created. You will also settings for Thumbnail size and
whether to use
captions if you do use captions it will use the file name of
of each
image and you will have to go in and edit the caption names
for the
photos as desired when everything is setup fireworks will
takeover and
create the album. it will create three subdirectories one
with the full
size photos , one with the thumbs, and one with the html
information for
each photo. Plus three other files in main directory one
being an html
file. once completed and Fireworks returns editing back to
Dreamweaver
close and don't save the blank html file. the index file
needed will be
created by Fireworks.
open the index file inside you album directory and edit
cations as needed.
Remember if you do this you'll need a total of 3 times files
of the
photos you use for example.
if you have 30 photos it will be a total of four directories
and 93 files.
for 20 it would be 63 files, for 10 33 files and so on.
If you need to add photos or take away photos the method is
to start
over from scratch and use you FTP program to do a recursive
delete on
the directory then re-upload.

IPhoto 9 - Photoshop Elements 9: Saved photos not showing thumbnails

After editing iPhoto images in PE9 and saving them, I cannot see the updated thumbnail in iPhoto. If I double-click on the photo, I can see the edited version, but where is the updated thumbnail?
I read Old Toad's advice to set the file saving preferences in PE9 to overwrite the existing file, and that helped with the problem of having a strange file window pop up when I tried to save in PE9, but if there's another setting to handle this thumbnail problem, I haven't found it.

How are you doing this? It sounds like you might be saving as into the iPhoto library rather than correctly setting PE9 as the iPhoto external editor and then saving (not saving as)

You will need a copy of Fireworks to run it though.
Sometimes, I use Photoshop's automate web galelry and then use that file inside of my site.
If have to incorporate it into an existing page, I just copy and paste the code.

Help with photos duplicating in place holder slots

My photos are duplicating when I save and export my pages doc. There are six pictures but only the top two pics are showing in the other four slots below. I tried to resave but it wont update to the current doc version.
How can I correct this?

Are the big in Mb? If they are reduce their size but do it in a graphic application. There are many free ones on Internet you can download. GIMP is one.

Photo album: enlarged thumbnails' layer

This problem appears only in IE6 and 7, not Firefox or Safari. When I mouseover a thumb it enlarges, but instead of the enlarging OVER the adjoining thumbs, it enlarges UNDER its neighboring thumbs' layer. Here's the sample (slavishly copied from the demo, with new images inserted).

Any suggestion for fixing this IE anomaly?
I'm not attaching any files at this point because I suspect others have encountered this issue and the remedy may be well known, with no need to comb thru my files. Can provide if useful, though.

Hello,
Your problem may be easily done by changing the CSS
properties of the divs that contains each photos. They are left
floated and included into a container div 'thumbnails' with a fix
width. You should divide this width to the number of columns you
desire and set this result as the width of the small floated div.

IOS 8 Stuck photo in camera thumbnail not in Recently added

Since iOS 8.0, sometimes a photo gets stuck in the thumbnail square at the lower left corner of the camera window. If I touch that photo, I get a message saying that there are no photos or videos. The photo does not get into the Recently Added album.
If I take more pictures, they are shown in the square. But if I delete them all until the Recently Added album is empty, the original stuck photo appears again in the square. This thumbnail should be a gray square when the Recently Added album is empty.
The only way that I've found to fix it is to browse the phone with iExplorer, delete the folder PhotoData and DCIM and resync with iTunes.
But the problem may arise again at any time. It seems that it appears when taking several photos in a row, mainly without flash.
It didn't happen under any iteration of iOS 7, but it's been there under 8.0 and 8.0.2.

I Had this problem as well and the photo it was displaying was an inappropriate one I wouldn't want anyone to see so it was a big deal for me to fix this. I didn't have this photo in my camera roll or in any of my folders but I DID find it in my collections screen under the Photo app. Once I deleted it from collections it disappeared and displayed the most recent photo that is in my camera roll. If you want to keep you picture share it someone private and delete the old copy and save the new one and see if it lets you keep the photo without having the thumbnail issue.

Photos duplicated in Photo Library

Ater syncing to a second computer, all photos were duplicated within the Photo Library directory - all 3,125 of them - whilst also remaining within their original directories.
No matter which directories I add/remove when syncing, these same 3125 photos remain in the Photo Library directory, nothing added or subtracted in subsequent syncs.
Any ideas how to delete these duplicates? No option available within iTunes, near as I can tell...

If you want to just remove them form youriPhone or iPad then click on your device at top right and select the photos tab. You can then choose which photos sync out to your device in terms of Albums, Events or faces.
If you want to control which pictures share to your Apple TV then in itunes File, Home Sharing, Choose files to share with Apple Tv
If you remove them completly from everywhere then delete within the source app. Most commonly iPhoto or Aperture on a mac.

Photo info on thumbnails in new photo ap????

Previously the photos shown in ann Event or Album the image number shown automatically, and you could add or rename that image. With the new update those items are not showing. Has that feature been removed? I looked thru the drop down options in photos and I don't see how to turn that feature on. Is it even possible? I know I can select a photo in an album or event and then hit the info button to turn it on and it stays on as I scroll thru each photo, however, I want to see the image numbers and titles when looking at all the thumbnails in a certain event or album.

Not removed but the title which shows below the thumbnail was not included in the conversion from iPhoto to Photos. User léonie has created some Automator/Applescript apps that can: 1 - put the file name of the original file into the title box; 2 - let you batch rename the titles in a couple of ways.

Batch changing of titles, dates, captions is not supported in Photos.

Photos missing, black thumbnails in iOS5

Here's the problem. I'm noticing that in my camera roll there are a bunch of all black thumbnails that should be actual images. If I try to open the black thumbnails, they are all black (i.e., the thumbnails aren't the only thing messed up). In addition, some of the thumbnails are grey images that look like they have a frame around them.
I've had the phone hooked up to iCloud and photo stream and have disconnected it from icloud and neither seems to make a difference. I can't figure out a pattern as to which pictures are missing. In addition, the missing pictures do not appear in photo stream either. They are just black thumbnails of pictures that apparently can't be retrieved. I also noticed that in my camera roll some of the thumbnails are out of sequential time order.
When I have photo stream on, there are no black thumbnails in it. Some of the black thumbnails (but not all) from the camera roll appear fine on my laptop. I have it connected to photostream to automatically sync new photos (windows 7). However, this doesn't account for all of the missing photos, which was my first theory.
It seems like there are a lot of people with similar problems, but I haven't heard it described this way and I can't figure out a pattern to when the images are missing.

Had exact same issue on my wife's IPhone 4 IOS 5, had a back up of most of the photos and was only the last weeks that were "missing"? so was feeling brave and followed the steps in the below links and deleted the 3 files using iexplorer rebooted and it restored all the photos and rebuilt the thumbnails list.
