Photos for OS X stuck "uploading X items" to iCloud Photo Library

21.5 iMac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 (all patches applied)
200GB iCloud Storage with 171GB Free
iPhone 5s running iOS 8.3
When I enabled iCloud Photo Library on my Mac within the New Photos application it uploaded 12,182 out of the 15,125 photos successfully. All 12,182 photos are viewable in iCloud.com and on my iPhone. Photos is stuck "uploading 82 items". I have signed out and back into iCloud on my Mac, rebooted my Mac, rebooted my time capsule, disabled and then re-enable iCloud Photo Library, paused for a day then resumed and left my Mac running for days straight.
iCloud Photo Library works perfectly on my iPhone. When I take a photo it's uploaded to iCloud.com, when it's deleted it's then removed from iCloud.com. Since the Photos application is stuck "uploading" it's not receiving any new photos shot with my iPhone.
Any constructive comments, help or fixes are very welcome.
Thank you

Same here. plenty of storage on iCloud, yet I'm stuck with 500 photos uploaded out of 400 total.
The OS X Photos app is not doing anything and has stopped uploading 2 days ago.
Reboot doesn't help.
Anyone else seeing this issue???

iCloud is not the way to do this. You should use Migration Assistant - with this you can transfer your complete User folder from the old Mac including preferences and logins. You will need to connect the two with FireWire or USB depending on the models.
Ideally you should do this before you set up the new Mac - if you create a user account with the same name than the Migration will have to give the migrated user folder a different name. When you first switch on the new Mac it should ask you if you want to transfer your data, and give you instructions.

  • Uploading MP4 video to iCloud photos fails

I am trying to upload a 25MB MP4 video to iCloud photos yet I keep on receiving an error indicating 'JPEG format only'
I checked that you should be able to upload MP4 videos via iCloud on my PC so I can then view on my iphone 6.
    Can anyone help?

I see this question in a lot of places and in several Apple discussion groups. I've tried a number of the proposed solutions. I have 99GBs to upload. I got about 30GB uploaded twice, but then it kept stalling there (I have plenty of space). The solution that came closest was for me to turn off icloud, shut down Photos, rebuild Photos library (I think it's cntrl + option + double click on Photos icon), then start it all again. This let me get 60GB up fairly quickly, but it's been stuck there for a few days now. I also took my iMac into work and hooked it up to the bigger system there, since many people proposed doing that, assuming that those environments have bigger "pipes."  Anyway, I did all of this, and it's still stuck, uploading maybe one photo every six hours or so.

  • How do you upload iMovie items to iCloud?

I just downloaded the OSX Lion to use iCloud, is there a way to upload my movies to iCloud.

You can only have movies you purchased through iTunes and movies you bought that also have a digital copy. Ripped, torrent and home made movies wont go into the cloud. I know it stinks.

  • Will all photos in iphoto on my mac be synced with icloud photo library?

I enabled the "Icloud Photo Library" (beta) just now, and I have lots and lots of photos in "photos" in Iphoto.
Will these be uploaded and backed up in that cloud? So if i would lose my computer, would they still be up there?
If not, is this an option that will be created in some future?
(Thats right, i don't know how to google)
    Thanks you!

No photos from your Mac will be uploaded anywhere at this time. iPhoto does not use the iCloud photo library at all. It's only available on the photos app on your iOS device. When iPhoto is replaced with Photos for Mac, sometime in 2015, then we will know what features are available.
But right now, if your computer is stolen you will lose everything.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • Photos app uploading more items than in library

I have been having a lot of trouble trying to upload my library to iCloud, I saw one solution that said to repair the Photos library by holding Command and Option at the same time then launching Photos, once the repair was done it seems like the upload has started again but this time its saying it is uploading 19,500+ photos when I only have 17,100 in my library. How could this be?

Thank you for all your responses. It's good to know that I am not alone in this.
Something far worse happened to me recently with the Photos app. I noticed in System Preferences > iCloud > Photos, there was an option to "Delete and Disable" iCloud Photo Library (hereinafter "IPL") completely. It sounded to me like this would delete all of my photos from IPL so that I could get a clean start and retry the upload from my pristine Photos app library.
Lo and behold, when I did that, IPL somehow sent a signal to Photos that all of my photos needed to be downloaded, so it duplicated literally thousands of photos in a library that I had carefully pruned in Aperture throughout the years. Not only that, but it deleted half of my library! It went from 130 GB to 62 GB in a matter of minutes with no warning, confirmation, or even an informational dialog box. What a disaster this iCloud Photo Library has proven to be.
Thank God, I have a good backup plan and everything can be restored, but I've learned my lesson and have come to the following conclusions:
    1. iCloud Photo Library is a disaster in its current state. This beta is not ready for public testing.
    2. The best way (at least for me) to use Photos app now, is to turn off iCloud Photo Library, but keep the option for the Photo Stream on. That option automatically feeds all new photos from my iOS devices into Photos, which is almost perfect. Unfortunately, Photo Stream does not support videos, however. So, for videos, I simply connect my iPhone and Photos app does a good job of recognizing all of the new videos that need to be imported. With this setup, I can benefit from the Photos app, get all of my new photos and videos imported, and avoid the hassle that is known as the iCloud Photo Library.
I hope this experience helps someone in the future.

  • I have the iCloud Photo Library (Beta) turned on. The photos from my iPhone do get uploaded to the iCloud. The photos are then downloaded to my wife's iPhone (we share the iCloud account). How do I keep the photos from downloading to my wife's iPhone

I do not want all the photos from my iPhone downloading to my wife's iPhone from iCloud? We share an iCloud account. How can I prevent the download to my wife's iPhone from iCloud. .The "Upload to My Photo Stream" is turned off on my iPhone. . I am running 8.1.3.
I have a related question. In order to same space on my iPhone is there a way to upload the photos to the iCloud and then delete them from my iPhone.

The way to keep the photos from downloading to your wife's phone would be for her to go to Settings > iCloud > Photos > and turn off iCloud Photo Library. If that isn't an option, the other option would be for her to have her own Apple ID ( and possibly explore the new family sharing options https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/ )
Regarding the "related question" see the quotes below from iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ - Apple Support
Deleting a photo or video from your Photos app will also remove the item from iCloud Photo Library and from your iCloud storage allocation. Photos and videos you remove can be recovered from the Recently Deleted album for 30 days. After 30 days, your content will be removed from the Recently Deleted album.
If you want to reduce the space used by photos on your phone, rather than deleting them see the following:
How does iCloud Photo Library save space on my device?
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your iOS device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. iCloud Photo Library stores the original, high-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and can keep lightweight, device-optimized versions on each of your devices. As long as you have enough storage, recent photos and videos that you access the most will stay on your device at full resolution.
You can turn on Optimize [device] Storage from Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera > iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.

  • ICloud Photo Library with automatic photo upload services such as Dropbox and Google

After enabling iCloud Photo Library in iOS 8, do automatic photo upload services such as Dropbox and Google+ still upload photos in full resolution?
Or do they upload the low resolution file?

About iCloud Photos Library Beta, it is yet more a preview than a beta
Do not rely on it to store full res Photos/Videos even if you have a 200GB iCloud Store
Major Bugs (according to help description of fonctionality):
-only IOS8 Photos manually edited are uploaded full res from IOS ! If you do not edit you get low res photos in iCloud Library
-uploaded 1080p videos from IOS are converted to 720p 5mb/s as in existing Photo Sharing and not originals.
-No upload button in web iCloud photo Client on MAC for many (all?) users
Also very slow and very often stuck doing nothing.
I am afraid we would have to wait for next year... or later
What is unbelievable is that there are no information at all by Apple about what should word on the beta, and known problems, nor any release date, that is definitely not a beta, just powerpoint preview. I am very angry after all the fuss they have done around "new" iCloud and my 200GB monthly payment that I cannot use.

  • Problems on uploading photos to iCloud photo library

I had a problem on uploading photos to the iCloud photo library yesterday.
It shows that my mac is uploading my photos to iCloud but the numbers have stuck for days, I checked my WIFI and rebooted my mac for two times but it still didnt work.
I also turned on iCloud photo library on my iPad air and, similarly, the numbers still stayed the same....

There is probably maintenance work going on. Today I go continually warnings, that the photos cannot be found, when I tried to access iCloud Photo Library (Beta) from the iCloud page. Other threads reported, that the iCloud Photo Library (Bata) page was continually stuck on updating.
It is still a Beta service after all, accessional undergoing updating and reconstruction.

  • IPhone 6 not uploading to iCloud photo library

Yes I know that apples iCloud photo library is still in beta but very often my iPhone 6 will get stuck trying to upload photos (most that were taken by the phone itself) and my iPad Mini 2 has no issues. And now the iPhone 6 - when connected to wifi - is trying to upload 8 photos that were already uploaded my my iPad. Any suggestions besides a total factory reset - I am on vacation and don't have access to my iTunes backups.

Three were taking by the iPhone so they were originally on the phone. Two were uploaded and it got stuck on the third one. The other photos were transferred to my iPad mini by Canon's app from my camera and the iPad did upload them to the iCloud photo library. I then transferred those photos from the iPad to iPhone using Airdrop and now - even though the iPad already uploaded them to the cloud, the iPhone is stuck trying to do the same thing

  • HT6378 How to upload iPhoto library into iCloud Photo library?

    Hi,
I am having a MBP mid 2012 w/ Yosemite along w/ iPhone and iPad, all running 8.1. After having upgraded all devices to latest version, I wonder how do you get now the Mac iPhoto library into iCloud Photo library? iCloud Photo Library setting has been enabled on all devices.
On the iCloud, All Photos folder just shows a fraction of what's on my Mac iPhoto library, probably the most recent pictures I have taken and there's no sign of any automatic uploading as suggested by all Apple Ads...
    Thanks
    S

After having upgraded all devices to latest version, I wonder how do you get now the Mac iPhoto library into iCloud Photo library? iCloud Photo Library setting has been enabled on all devices.
iPhoto on your Mac is not supposed to work with iCloud Photo Library. The new "Photos" app for the mac will be able to do it. The release of this app  has been announced for "Early next year".
For now, only your mobile devices can upload to iCloud Photo Library.  So you have to upload your photos to the mobile devices to get them into iCloud Photo Library Beta.
That is not easy, because you cannot upload from your iPhoto library to your iOS 8 devices using iTunes with  iCloud Photo Library Beta enabled on the device. It will disable syncing photos with iTunes. As long as you are using  iCloud Photo Library Beta, mail the Photos to your devices or upload using Photo Stream.

  • ICloud Photos Beta Not Uploading

    Hello!
I am using iCloud Photos Beta on a Windows 8.1 PC with an iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.1.1, and iCloud for WIndows 4.0.1. I have iCloud Photos Beta enabled on my iPhone as well as in iCloud for Windows. iCloud will not auto update any photos from my PC to the web browser or to the device. If I manually upload photos using the web browser, it fails, due to network error 90% of the time.
I have tried uninstalling the client and disabling iCloud photos on the iPhone and then reinstalling/re-enabling it with no success.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Since iCloud Photo Library will not allow photos from iTunes iphoto to be up loaded ---how do I upload my photos to iCloud Photo Library?

I Have a 5s iPhone updated to 8.1---- have installed iCloud Photo Library---- will only upload 4oo of 21,000 photos--- will not upload any photos from iTunes. Since all 21,000 are in iPhoto's iTunes how do I get them to the icloud photo library.  As you know enabling iCloud Photo Library deletes all iTunes photos from the iPhone 5s.  Any ideas?

I Figured it out----- you can't upload iTunes iphotos to iCloud Photo Library from an iPhone!  Can't be done.  Must have a Mac to do it--- and it better not be an old one. Thanks apple!

  • How can I stop iCloud photo from looping a failed photo upload?

My mother has an iMac that was mysteriously losing HD space. It turns out that the process called iCloud Photo evidently was trying and failing to upload a corrupt photo that I had inadvertently put in her iPhoto app. Every few seconds a copy of the photo was appearing in the folder named com.apple.photostream-agent. There were 22,000 copies of this photo.
With each failed photo upload attempt, these errors also were logged in console:
    1/4/15 7:50:57.709 PM com.apple.photostream-agent[343]: [publisher:didEncounterError:publishingAssetCollections:] Failed to upload asset uqzx6U1gTAi5HumqNsH3YA
1/4/15 7:50:57.808 PM com.apple.photostream-agent[343]: SQL operation failed with code 11
I deleted the photos and restored the HD space after killing the iCloud Photo process in Activity Monitor. Then I removed the photo out of iPhoto.
The problem is that should iCloud Photo restart, say, through a computer restart, the problem starts all over again. Apparently removing the photo from iPhoto did not do the trick.
How can I get iCloud Photo to stop trying to upload this photo?

The problem is that should iCloud Photo restart, say, through a computer restart, the problem starts all over again. Apparently removing the photo from iPhoto did not do the trick.
Did you delete the corrupted photo from its event and from My Photo Stream as well? Have you deleted the photo completely by emptying iPhoto's Trash and the System Trash?
You could also try to delete the photos from the folder ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub/
That will remove the temporary copy of "My Photo Stream" on the Mac from the user library.
The user library is hidden by default. To open the hidden User Library:
    Use the Finder's "Go" menu.
Click "Go", then hold down the options key, until you are seeing "Library" in the drop down menu appear and click it.
In the Finder window that will open navigate to the folder ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub/.
