Photos from DSLR import to 'photos' but pixelate in iMovie for iPad

Hi,
I just downloaded iMovie for iPad it seems really great.
I am trying to make my first project using pictures I have on my iPad that I imported using the camera connection kit from my Nikon D70s- the pictures are all fine and I've viewed them extensively in the photo viewer app, however when I import them and put them in the time line in iMovie they all get heavily pixelated as if the base file were only about 200x200... I have no idea what I am doing wrong?
Thanks!

That sounds like a real bug.
When I put photos from our 5D in to iMovie it has been through iPhoto.
And I can see it doesn't put the full resolution image into my album.
Im guessing that they haven't allowed it to take full resolution images; much like the limits of FCP and Motion with different video cards.
So it probably detects the large image and does a quick resize to a useable size.
That *****!
You should tell Apple:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/imovie_iOS.html
But have you tried opening the photos in PS Express or a photo editing program, and saving them out from there?
Then they should be smaller I assume,a nd should look fine in iMovie.
Crappy to have to work around, but better then not being able to use photos; or iPhoto round-tripping.
