Photos from iPhoto used in iMovie

I previously posted this question in the iMovie community, but received no response.  I'm hoping someone here will have some knowledge on my situation.
I have created 2 movies in iMovie that use some videos uploaded to iMovie and also some photos from iPhoto.  I have since decided to move all of my photos to Adobe Lightroom.  To do so, I have exported photos event by event from iPhoto to a new location, imported them into Lightroom, and then deleted the event from iPhoto.  For those iPhoto events where I have used photos in iMovies, I have yet to delete the events from iPhoto.  I assume that iMovie will be very confused about the location of the photos and will no longer be able to play the movie.  Should I just keep these events in iPhoto in addition to having a copy of the photos in Lightroom?  Can iMovie "see" photos in Lightroom, so I can create additional iMovies taking photos from Lightroom?
I have 2 goals here:  1) not break 2 existing iMovies that use photos from iPhoto, 2) be able to create new iMovies using video and also photos from Lightroom.
Is this possible?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

You can check easily if iMovie will continue to work with photos after you've deleted them from iPhoto - simply make a quick project in iMovie and then delete the photos from iPhoto. I do believe they will but not absolutely certain.
No I don't believe you can share photos from LR to iMovie like you can from iPhoto or Aperture because LR has no knowledge or way of working with the Media Browser system. You'll need to export from it to the Finder and from there to iMovie.

Note - that no internet backup service has been proven to be safe and effective for backing up the iPhoto library - unless you personally have backup uyp an iPhoto library and restored it sucussfuly form one it should not be recommended - a large number of people have lost their photos trying it

I´ve tried to end iMovie, shut down the MacBook Pro, but the same problem happens again.

    Hi
    BUT
    This can take times ! - I mean several Hours ! !
    Last time I did this it took > 20 Hours (INTEL i7 4x4 processors - 2.2GHz)
AND - remember to connect Your MacBook (or laptop) to Mains-adaptor - as battery might run out !
Still - there is no alternative route to this (repair of iPhoto Library) suggested by Karsten !

  • I sent e-mail photos from iPhoto using my @me account but I do not find the history of sent e-mails in my new iCloud account. Where can I find the history of sent e-mails?

I sent e-mail photos from iPhoto using my @me account but I do not find the history of sent e-mails in my new iCloud account. Where can I find the history of sent e-mails?

Using iPhoto as the email client in iPhoto does not creatge a sent copy.  iPhoto indicates in the Info drawer if a photo was emailed by iPhoto (under the Sharing section):
There's no easy way to search for photos that have been emailed. Each photo has to be inspected via the Info tray.
One could add a keyword to emailed photos which would let a smart album keep track of those photos.
A better solution, IMO, is to set Mail as the email client (in iPhoto's General preference pane) and use it.  That will give you an sent copy, better access to your contacts and, if you want a theme, numerous photo themes under the Stationary section of Mail.

  • How can I back up photos from iPhoto using terminal?

Can I backup my photos from iPhoto using terminal or any other way(to a portable hard drive) as I have turned my laptop on and it has came to a screen giving me the option to back up from time machine, reinstall IOS or clean my drives, but neither are working so I believe I am going to have to erase my whole hard drive and potentially get a new one, but my only problem is that I haven't backed up my iPhoto images before so is there anyway I can do this?

You are booted from Recovery Drive. Have you tried restarting so you boot normally?

  • How do I import photos from iPhoto into the iMovie Events window? I want to use photos in my iMovie trailer program

i want to use some of my photos from iPhoto library in the iMovie Trailer program - it won't let me import them. I tired to sneak them into the Events library but can't seem to be able to do that either when using the imovie trailer feature, I have to open up a different project to be able to import photos, but only able to drop them directly into a project, not the events folder -- I can't get photos into the event folder.

You cannot add photos to a trailer.
The solution is to get as far as you can in the Trailer withou adding the photos. Then, select the trailer in the Project Library List, and click FILE/CONVERT TO PROJECT. Now it is an iMovie Project, and you can do anything that iMovie can do, including add photos wherever you want.

  • Photos from iphoto placed in imovie breakdown

Imovie 4.01, when I move photos from iphoto into the clip viewer the photo clips become unreadable on play back. About halfway through the clip the picture changes to gray with repeating black and white rows of small pixelated squares. This happens to most photos and always to the copied/pasted photo clips. I have placed photos in iphoto in the following formats: photoshop, pict and jpeg. None work. I create still frames from the photos in the clip window and in the clip viewer, no luck. The photo clips appear normally in the Clip Viewer strip but the photos play back as garbage. Please help.

When I insert a photo from iphoto into imovie, the photo that appears is different from the one that I inserted.  Why is this and how can I make it work properly?

WHat version of iMovie, and iPhoto?
THIs forum is for iMovie iOS (iPads, iPhones).
Are you talking about iMovie for Mac?

  • Why is it when I add photos from iPhoto onto an iMovie project, it is not displayed when I play the movie from beginning to end, although I can see it in the (edit) format?

    Hi everyone,
I'm just wondering why is it that when I place an image from iPhoto to an iMovie project, it is not displayed when I play it from beginning to end in fullscreen playback mode? However, when I exit it on the timeline, it is shown. All I did as drag it from the iPhoto column and place on at the beginning. I would really appreciate someones help because I really need to be able to place images onto my projects. Thanks!

Sounds like your talking about iMovie for Mac?
This is the iOS version, repost here:

  • Exporting photos from iPhoto - using in Word

I'm trying to build a Word document using some of the photos in iPhoto. Using the "Export" command in iPhoto and selecting jpg format I export the desired photo to a folder on the desktop. So far so good. Preview opens this file as does most other applications. But if I use the "Insert Picture from file" command in Word (or Excel for that matter) and navigate to the photo I just exported and select it, I get an error message that says
"This application cannot open this file. This file is an unsupported graphic format or may be damaged. Try opening the graphic in another application"
The rub is that I just tried this with one photo and it inserted fine! Now when I try it with the others I get the error message.
Is there a work around to this does anyone know?
    MalcW

Sorry for delay in replying - I've been on travel. The only way I seem to be able to consistently paste pictures into Word is to use Photoshop Elements 3 to simply open the jpg file that has been exported from iPhoto to a folder and then save it again. Interestingly, when I do this the icon - previously only visible as a generic jpg icon becomes a "mini-photo" icon. That's the only difference I can see.
I have tried dragging the original iPhoto exported jpg from the folder on the desk top into Word but the photo usually just pops back again - i.e. it won't paste. (Except that about 1 in 10 photos WILL paste! - and there's no obvious difference in the files - all were taken by the same camera on the same card and imported into iPhoto at the same time! - weird!)
Photos that won't paste this way produce the same effect if I use the Insert Picture command from Word.
I haven't tried dragging direct from the iPhoto window because the files are too big - ~3MB a file. In using the Export command I resize the file down to around 50-100kb and paste that. Although having said that the quality seems a lot poorer than I'd imagine for even a 100kb jpg file. (the quality in iPhoto looks good - most photos are taken with a Nikon D70s SLR).
I agree Word is hopeless - even once I get the jpg files into Word they often seem to have a mind of their own as to where they want to go - and I've lost count of the number of "Unexpected quits"!
It does seem odd that this is inconsistent and maybe Word is at fault. I do wonder though whether iPhoto 4 is not consistent in the way that it exports images? Don't know - probably should have updated to iLife 5 - although maybe in a few hours iLife 6 will be available!

  • How Can I Email Photos from iPhoto using Yahoo Web Mail?

Is there anyway to hook the email functionality in iPhoto up to a web based email account?
On my old PC Yahoo had a little helper application that would intercept calls to the email program and redirected them to Yahoo. Yahoo does not seem to have a similar helper app for mac.
Can anyone think of a way to connect iPhoto's email button up to Yahoo or other web based mail?
    Thanks!
    -kevin

    Kevin
There is one for GMail, but none for Yahoo, AFAIK.
As you're using 10.5, If you use the extended Open or Attach dialogue (with Column View) you can scroll to the bottom of the Shortcuts and find the Media browser there. Select any pic you want from there.

  • It's a No-Go! How to import photos from iphoto (using iMac) to iPod??

I have been trying and trying to send my photos through to my iPod from my iMac (both of which are only a few days old...), and it doesn't accept them. Music and videos are fine, but the photo problem won't resolve itself. I have followed the online Apple tutorials to the T, but zilch! A message continually pops up after about a minute of trying to send the photos through:
'Preferences were not saved for the "Noel Ballantyne's iPod" because it could not be found.' [Followed by an /OK/ box]
Eloquently put, but it doesn't help me figure this out any. Help anyone, please! Do I need to set something up on my iPod before any of this can happen? I see that there's a "import photos", or maybe another button too that I need to hit first??

    noelinkorea
Oddly, photos are sent through to the iPod via iTunes!
In iTunes, uses Preferences -> iPod and click on the Pictures tab. You can configure it there.
Note: The iPod preferences are available only when the iPod is connected.
If you need further assistance, I suggest you try the iPod or iTunes fora.

  • How do I restore only a few photos from iphoto using time machine?

I have about 100 photos that have become corrupt and I need to restore from time machine.  When I try to restore the iphoto library, it says it cannot restore because library is too big.  How can I get back only the few photos that are corrupt?
    Thanks!
    Dorothy

Please expain what you mean by 100 photos becoming corrupt? That is extremely unlikely - it is much more likely that you have a corrupted library
Probably rebuilding your iPhoto library is the solution but with no information about what you have or what is going on that is only a wild guess
For iPhoto '11 Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database and see if that resolves things

  • Im adding photos from iPhoto to an iMovie project.

I want them to be the same length for each photo. I follow the directions in the settings button, yet each seem to have an individual time.

i tried your suggestion and i am still having the same problem??

  • A number of imported photos from iphoto in imovie project all show the same image whilst the preview before dragging them in is correct. What could be the problem?

A number of photos from iphoto used in imovie project all show the same image when playing back. The previw when clicking and dragging them and also the pictures in the storyline. Yet when playing the clip a previous immage keeps on appearing. What could be the problem?

You created a mess and there is no solution - with the actions you have taken those photos are gone unless you have access to them from some other source - they existed in two place - in your iPhoto library and on your backup drive - you have traded the backup drive and restore an earlier iPhoto library so all you have is what you have
