Photos get cropped when printed

I have some images that I am sending to my local Walmart for printing.
Walmart uses Fuji equipment.
When I get the prints back I've noticed that some of the prints have been 'cropped'. A portion of the top or bottom is missing. This is most noticeable because I have added text to the bottom of these photos and it is easy to see where the text gets cut. I've checked my images in Photoshop. The image size says exactly 4 x 6. I then upload the jpg using an ActiveX tool that gets run from the Walmart photo site. I've even checked some of my photos with the 'Print Preview' function. The preview looks fine. Just like my image on my pc. Any suggestions? I've also used Kodak's services. They provide a 'Cut and Trim' option that can be turned on or off. Turning it off provides a print that is exactly what was sent. Even if there is extra white space around the image. But everyone tells me there is no such option with Fuji.
Thanks for any help!

Randy,
1. I have had the same experience with the machine at CVS. I cropped them precisely @ 4x6" landscape at home, but their equipment went further.
2. Most recently I tried out Winkflash. They will give you 50 free prints, just pay $0.99 for postage. I did not perceive additional cropping. Try them. www.winkflash.com
3. Walter Mossberg, the WSJ computer guru, wrote a glowing report about the Kodak service. I have not tried this service.
4. Printing at home is OK for a few prints, but it tedious to do a bunch of snapshots, and also expensive when one factors in ink and paper.

  • 4000 x2248 photo is cropped when printed

With my new 12 megapixel photo/ 4000x2248, I cannot print the whole picture on a 13" x 9" paper. There is no way to scale the photo with IPhoto contrary to the possibility we have with a simple document. Please, help because my photo is beautiful but I want all of it on the paper. Thanks.

    Epson printer R1800

The reason you can't get the photo to fit the paper is that the two are different size ratios. For a 13x9 paper size you will have to use a custom size of 12" x 6.744" in order to get the entire photo to print.
If you printer supports borderless 13 x 9 prints then you can use a custom size of 13 x 7.306.  You still won't get a total borderless print but will get the full image on the page.
    For a 13 x 9 paper size this is what you'll get:
Since my printer doesn't support 13 x 9 borderless this is the best I can do with that size paper and image.

  • Do photos get resized when sending from PSE 6 to PE 4?

Do photos get resized when moving them from PSE 6 to PE4?
I've come to understand that using overly large photos in slide shows in PE 4 can cause lots of issues, and its recommended to resize photos to 1000x750 (http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bb8822c) before including them in a slide show in PE4. I'm trying to understand the implications of working with photos in PSE 6 and then moving to PE 4 vs. just doing it directly in PE 4.
I can imagine (at least) two scenarios:
    1. I have all my photos in PE6 and want to work ONLY in PE4. I'm guessing i would resize my photos in the PSE 6 Organizer by using File-->Export and picking a smaller file size (e.g., 1024 x 768) and then import them into PE4 and build my slide show there.
    2. I have all my photos in PSE 6 and want to to create a slide show there and then move it to PE 4 to touch it up or do some fancy stuff to it. Will the photos be resized so PE 4 won't have trouble with them or do i need to resize them in PSE 6, reimport them into PSE 6, build the slide show, and THEN send it to PE 4?

    eric,
See my post over at http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b85fd0/4
for reasons why I think that for your current objectives, working in Premiere Elements (rather than making a slide show in PSE) will be a better choice.
    >1. I have all my photos in PE6 and want to work ONLY in PE4. I'm guessing i would resize my photos in the PSE 6 Organizer by using File-->Export and picking a smaller file size (e.g., 1024 x 768) and then import them into PE4 and build my slide show there.
    Yes.
    A couple of considerations
1- Where will you establish the sequence of the photos in the slide show?
Are you making an Album in PSE 6 in order to establish the sequence of the slides as you are selecting which photos to use? if YES, we can experiment with sending the photo files in their Album sequence to Premiere Elements.
Or will you establish the sequence of the photos within Premiere Elements?
2- When working in Premiere Elements will you be able to do the 600 slides in a single PE project?
I don't know the answer to this: it will be influenced by your system configuration.

  • Images cropped when printing

In Photoshop Elements 10, when I attempt to print 5X7 images on an 8.5X11 sheet in landscape mode, it reduces the image size to 3.5X4 and crops the image. The image appears correct in the print preview, but reduces and crops when printed. I have printed on both my Epson and my HP with the same results. If I open the image in Photoshop 7, it prints fine. Can anyone help?

Can you post a screen shot of your Print dialog from Photoshop Elements, it sounds like a setting might be off.

  • TS1503 do all my photos get backup when i plug into itunes

do all my photos get backup when i plug into itunes

Yes, but you should not rely on that, and they are not viewable.  They are only for restoring your iphone.
You should be importing all pics taken with the iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera.

  • Printed photos from Aperture 3.2.1 have lines through them - don't get that when printing from iPhoto

I recently downloaded Aperture 3.2.1 and after editing a couple photos (love that process!), tried to print them.  Both had horizontal lines across the entire photo.  I don't have this problem when printing from iPhoto.
As an FYI, I have this problem when printing from PSE too, but worked around it by importing edited photo back into iPhoto and printing from there.  I don't want to do that with Aperture, because they have much better printing choices.
    I have a Canon MP 500 & a Canon IP 4300 - same issue with either one.
I contacted Canon tech support and got this reply:
We appreciate your correspondence regarding your PIXMA MP500. I am sorry that lines are printing through photos printed from aperture.
If aperture is the only program the issue occurs with then the print setting in aperture will need to be changed. You will need to use the icc profiles for the paper you are using. For details changing the print preferences in aperture please goto: http://www.redrivercatalog.com/profiles/how-to-use-icc-color-printer-profiles-ap erture-3-canon.html
I looked at the link and basically had a brain freeze.  It was very complex, and I was concerned that it was for Red River papers - I use HP paper.
I called HP to get their instructions for icc color printer profiles - complete zero.  They said it's a printer issue and would be happy to sell me a HP printer.
Please, can anyone help a struggling Aperture newbie?  I'm so frustrated.
    Thanks - Jma

    Hello Kirby,
Your recap is correct.  I ran Apple Software Update and both programs are up to date.  I looked on Canon's site and there are no new firmware updates for either printer.
When I select "print" in Aperture, I've selected the Canon MP500.   Under the "Rendering" section, the color profile offers six different selections that include the MP500.  I've tried them all.  They all have lines through them.  There is a note, in grey, beneath the Color Profile box, that says to "Turn off color management in the printer driver".  I have absolutely no idea how to do that, and I've googled it, to no avail
Under "Render Intent" I've tried both selections - Relative Colorimetric and Perceptual.  Still, lines through both.
This is really discouraging.  Both printers work perfectly fine - with iPhoto, so it's hard for me to justify buying a new printer.  And how do I know I wouldn't have the same problem with a new printer?
Fingers crossed that this can be resolved.  I have several photos I'm supposed to be printing for gifts.  And if the problem is in Aperture or PSE, won't the lines still be there even if I use one of the online printing companies?

  • Photos are cropped when going to print

Photos display properly when viewing but when any sort of print routine is initiated the image is seriously cropped, usually left and right sides. Trying to set print parameters, no border, etc., images are still always cropped.

Make sure the aspect ration (length to breadth) of the photo matches the aspect ratio you've chosen for printing.
In other words, if you're printing 5 x 7 make sure that the photo is cropped to that ratio, not 4:3 like many digital cameras produce.

  • Photo from iPhoto gets cropped when inserted into iMovie

My old video (miniDV camcorder, DV) is 4:3 and lower resolution than my photos (16:9, good digicam). I inserted a vertical photo into a video project, and the photo gets truncated on playback.
I expected it to be scaled to fit when shown on the screen, like iPhoto does.
Am I doing something wrong? Please tell me iMovie handles inserted photos sensibly.

WHat version of iMovie, and iPhoto?
THIs forum is for iMovie iOS (iPads, iPhones).
Are you talking about iMovie for Mac?

  • Photos not centered when printed

Every time I print a photo with iPhoto either the top (in Portrait mode) or the left side (in Landscape mode) is shortened. I cannot find an adjustment to correct the lack of centration. Can anybody help me with this?

Yes! ...all the obviuos things I've ruled out. These include drivers and options/settings. I even made sure to try and isolate the problem by removing the shared driver on the server and installing the latest drivers on just one computer to compare but got no differing result..all the computers sharing the driver on the server produced the same results as the islotated computer with direct access to the printer with the newest driver. So it's not the software nor the drivers that causes this problem. The problem is more noticable when printing on SRA3 (450 x 320mm) with 250gsm - 300gsm.
You are right about what the tech would say +/- 1 - 2mm tolerance. There is no problem when copying straight from hardcopy on the machine ...all tests conclude prefect registration.
I'm corrently using PCL drivers because they are better at handling graphics...I'm wondering if Postscript drivers would sort the problem out?
Other that that the only wa7y I can see to work arund this issue is to offest the spread/page in the software environment ....it's only when I want to print 2 sides ...as the tray won't print 2 sides on greater than 120gsm I use the bypass tray to print then work & turn to print the other side...if I didn't offset the page in the software/application, side 2 would be out of registration by upto 4mm.
Let me know if can think of any other way I can resolve this issue...I'm sure that the registration was pretty good previuosly ...may have been 1-1.5mm difference but now it's almost 3-4mm!

  • Photos get lighter when I switch from 1.1 RAW to 2.0 RAW

All of my photos get a bit lighter and less saturated when I switch to using the 2.0 RAW decoder. I prefer the 1.1 decoder, except there are fewer options. This is with all default settings. It would be a shame to have to then go and darken and tweak the saturation on every shot.

since the decoder varies for each camera, i think it depends on the camera you are using..i have the same issue with my 5D..images get lighter and less saturated..however images shot with my 40D get darker and more saturated..
for the 5D images though, i do gain more detail in the shadow areas..but for most of my photos that have already been tweaked/adjusted, there's no need for me to go back and reinvent the wheel by tweaking again.

  • Repositioning photo in frame when printing small image to A4 paper

I'm trying to print a passport sized photograph onto a sheet of A4 photo paper, but when I resize the image, the program places it in the centre of the frame when I view it in print preview.
I would like to reposition the image, to the top left corner of the page for example, in order to save photo paper.  I can't find a way to do this in iPhoto 9.5.1 or in any of the other photo apps I've downloaded form the App Store, and don't really want to shell out on Adobe Photoshop.  I'm using Mavericks if that makes any difference.
Any ideas or advice would be gratefully received.  Thak you in advance.

You'll need a 3rd party image editor  that supports layers or you can use Pages.  Open pages to a blank, letter sized page.
Drag the photo from the iPhoto window to the Pages window, resize as necessary and drag to the upper left hand corner of the page.  then Print.  If you have Word you can do essentially the same thing.
Some Image Editors That Support layers:
    Photoshop Elements 11 for Mac - $79
    GraphicConverter - $40
    Rainbow Painter - $30
    Imagerie - $38
    Acorn - $50
    Pixelmator - $60
    Seashore - Free
    GIMP for Mac - Free
    Xee 2.1 - free

  • Auto crop when printing 8 X 10 photos

When I print 8 X 10 iPhoto automatically crops the photo. All other sizes print the photo without the crop. How do i stop this?

The aspect ratio of an image is the ratio of the photo's width to its length.  For an 10 x 8 it would be 1.25:1. A 6 x 4 would be 1.5:1
You can select the aspect ratio in the Crop portion of iPhoto's Edit mode to whatever print size you want:

  • Photo's get cropped when I try to make an album - help

    Hi
I'm trying to make an album in iphoto '08 but my photo's keep being cropped because they aren't the right size for the templates. (I'd saved a lot of my landscapes 16:9 so the right and left edges are cropped out.)
can anyone tell me what the template sizes are, i can't work it out.
    thanks very much

Right-click on a photo inside its frame in the book and see if there's a command "Fit photo to frame" or similar. That will allow you to keep the proportions of your photos.
I don't have experience with iPhoto '08, but in v6 most of the frames are 4:3
Here's the explanation from the iPhoto 6 Help:
*Aligning photos evenly on book pages*
iPhoto books are designed to display photos that have a 4 x 3 size ratio, the most common ratio for consumer digital cameras. Photos may not line up evenly on pages where they appear side by side if your camera does not capture images at this ratio or if you cropped a photo in your library without constraining your selection to 4 x 3.
To ensure photos are properly aligned, crop them to a size ratio of 4 x 3. (See Related Topics below.)
You can also try to align a photo in a book by changing its size to fit the book frame. Press the Control key while clicking the photo, and then choose "Fit Photo to Frame Size" from the shortcut menu.
If you don't like the way photos are arranged on a page, you can also choose a different book theme or page design.
You may want to confirm that this has not changed in v7 by checking the Help file.
    Regards.

  • Photo size changes when printing

This is my problem. When I view a photo in my event, I am happy with the image. When I go to print, I find that parts of my image are cut off. It looks like the image zoomed in a little. How can I print the image exactly like it is displayed in the event? Also, this doesn't seem to change when I print different sizes, parts of the original image are always missing on the print.

Crop the photo to 11 x 14 before printing. That will insure that what you see in the cropped image will end up in the printed 11 x 14 image.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
