Photos gone after iOS8

Hi there,
Prior to iOS8, I had about 700 photos on my iPhone. I used My Photo Stream to synchronize the photos to all of my devices. On my Mac, I was running the public beta for Yosetime, so when I was prompted to use iCloud drive when installing iOS8, I agreed. Now all my devices have iCloud drive turned on. But, neither my iPhone or iPad have any of the photos on them that were before the update. I have lost every single picture. Should my photos be on my devices or did I actually delete them all when turning on iCloud drive?

I did it on my phone; I shared them to iCloud on my iPhone and then deleted them off of my camera roll, because I knew they would be stored on my iCloud. But, as you see, the next morning they were gone. :(((((((((((

  • PHOTO SORTING AFTER IOS8 - PROBLEM SOLVED

Like everyone else, after IOS8 Event sorting on both my iPhone & iPad were all mucked up... I couldn't find anything! I happened upon a "fix" in the Apple store that has saved me hours and hours of using an alternative photo organizer. It's so simple and sorts my events (with the pictures I already have downloaded on each device). The program is SMART PHOTO ORGANIZER by Backpackr. No, I don't work for Apple or the software developer, but just wanted to share a solution that's cheap and works GREAT for me!!!

Hi, P/Booth has been an issue at times. Thankfully you found the solution,,Well Done.
Remember though sometimes it is the initial ? that may need re editing....L

  • Photos gone after upgrading to 5

Just upgraded to the 5, all syncs went fine, except for photos. Not there. Prior 4 was backed up to iCloud as well as iTunes. Are these photos gone forever or can I recover them somehow?

I guess I never used an application for photos. Told by Verizon rep that photos would be in the cloud and/or on iTunes since I backed up to both before I upgraded. I'm thinking that a while back I turned off the My Photo Stream function to save some storage. Which means I likely DON'T have the photos either in iTunes or in the "Cloud". That is a bummer that I'll probably never get those photos back.

  • Photo cleanup after ios8 migration

I have an iPhone 5 running ios8, and a macbook laptop running OSX 10.9.5
Even before the migration away from camera roll, my iPhoto library on my mac was problematic. I was also running the iPhoto app on my iphone. A lot of times when I backed up to my mac, I would end up with duplicate photos, so I bought Duplicate Annihilator and have used it a couple of times.
So I think I am not backing up the photos correctly, which to me, is the most important stuff on my phone.
Now that I've migrated to "Photos" my photo library is a hot mess. The photos are all out of order, jumbled together, I can't find anything, and there are photos missing or unfindable in Photo that I have written off as gone forever, but when I open another app to attach a photo, the correct photo sometimes turns up there. Also I have photo albums that are empty that I cannot delete.
Ideally, what I would like to do is move every single photo and album out of my phone completely, organize them all using iPhoto (or maybe even Lightroom at this point since iPhoto's organization is a bit counter-intuitive anyway and if the iPhone doesn't play nice with it, then I may not even want to use it anymore), and then upload certain photos back into "Photos" on my phone.
And then moving forward, when I take a photo on my phone, I would like it backed up to my mac once only. Or iCloud, I'm not super-fussed about which way, the nightly iCloud backup is easier, but at some point I need to import the photos onto my Mac, correct?
but I clearly have gone off the rails somewhere about how best to back up to avoid duplications. I don't want to lose anything, I prefer to manage the photo deletions from my mac vs. my phone.
I don't need any fancy family sharing or anything like that, just a simple way to get this stuff organized and stay that way! And I can't seem to find any info on that for post-iOS8.
Sorry for the long complicated post. I spent most of last might trying to fix it and I couldn't get anything to work. Maybe I should back up and wipe my phone completely at this point? (shudder)

If you don't need the items you've identified in either of those two folders, it is safe to remove them. Items in your home folder are generally safe to remove unless they are in use by an open application or process.

  • Imported photos gone after import

    Hey guys,
I have a HUGE problem. The day before yesterday I imported around 300 pictures from my canon cam into iPhoto. Since my memory card is pretty small I checked "delete pictures after import". I looked at the pictures in my iphoto library, and they were properly imported. Yesterday when I tried to import new photos I noticed that the photos I imported the day before that were gone. All images lost BUT the events are in the library, empty of course.
I double saved the new pictures and imported them - they also were properly imported, but when I quit iPhoto and reopened it, they were gone aswell.
Does anyone know how I can get my pictures back? Already tried photorec on the SD-card - it restored the wrong pictures.
Thank you so much, all help is highly appreciated.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • Photos Gone after I synced to iTunes

Ok, i recently synced my important photos from a computer, and after few days that computer's hard drive was damaged, so i thorwed itaway. I had those pictures in Photo Library, and it was good. I bought a new computer and synced my new photos, when i synced, my old photos were gone, and new photos came. The old photos were gone. Someone please reply, those photos were important. If there is any way to restore them, please tell me as soon as possible.
    I BEG YOU!!!!!
    Please
    Navroop J.

Photos that have been synced to the iPhone from the computer are not part of the iPhone backup. That is because the photos are part of the computer already. When you synced the iPhone to the new computer, since those photos did not appear on the new computer and you synced other photos, the old ones were deleted. This is how the photo sync process works.
Since your drive was damaged and you threw it away, there is no way to recover those photos. Sorry.

  • Photos gone after upgrade to '11

I had a few hundred photos and a couple of videos on my iPhoto '09 library. I then upgraded to iPhoto '11, and all of my photos were gone. I saw a message that said you go to File->Import, so I did, but iPhoto Library was greyed out. I then tryed dragging the iPhoto Library into iPhoto, but it said unreadable file. What do I do?

First just try double clicking on your iPhoto Library in the Pictures folder. If the same thing opens up then quit iPhoto.
Re-open holding down Option and select to create a new library. When you create the library, iPhoto should open up and be blank - as expected. This will let us know if the issue is with your library or with the entire Application.
The next thing is would do is to trash your Caches and iPhoto.plist file, reboot and test again. If this does fix anything then fear not and move on...
Open iPhoto to your original library and then quit again. Then open iPhoto holding Option+Command until the 'rebuild' window comes up.
First, select just the top option and hit Rebuild. Let it do its thing and then test again.
If this does not work bring back the rebuild window and then select the 'rebuild' option only and select to rebuild. Test again.
If it is still missing your images then re-open the rebuild window and try rebuilding with the last 3 options checked off. Test again.
If it is still not displaying your images then bring the rebuild window up again for the last time. Now rebuild using the two options regarding the thumbnails and test. NB - this will take a long time to rebuild.
If after all of the above it is still not working you would need to manually rebuild the library.
This would involve importing all your images into the brand new library that was created in the beginning...
If it gets this far though then let us know and we will tell you how to do that.
You may also want to consider calling AppleCare at this point as they may want to look into the issue deeper with you.
    Sincerely
    JD

  • Photos missing after IOS8 upgrade

After upgrading to IOS8 some of my photos have been removed.
They are not in the new collections location an not in my iCloud account.
Luckily i still have one device on IOS7 where i can see the photo stream and the photos are still there but for some bizarre reason Apple has removed them from all my IOS8 devices.
If any one could help on how i can see these on my IOS 8 device it would be much appreciated.
Apple you have really screwed up on this last release, my faith in IOS is diminishing more and more with unexpected unexplained major changes that are forced on us.

    Read this, should help.

  • Very old photos reappeared after ios8 update on iphone 5

i am using iphone 5 A1428 ios 7.1.2, backed it up then did a full restore and updated it to ios8.1, everything worked fine until i checked my photos app, pictures that i have deleted long ago some of them dated from 2012 reappeared, i don't want to go all over my 3000 pictures to delete all the unnecessary photos, any idea what to do to fix this!
should i try to restore my backup one more time ?

I had the same problem.  Fortunately, before I upgraded to iOS8 I backed up my iPad to my computer using iTunes, including the non-iOS8 version of Numbers.
I deleted the iOS8 version, Numbers 2.4.2, and restored the older version via my iTunes backup.  Now everything works fine.

  • ICloud photos gone after iOS 8 update

    Hi, everyone,
Recently I have updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 8 and when I open the Photos app I can't find my photos that are stored on the iCloud. Previously on iOS 7 they were kept in My Photo Stream folder, but in the recent update it is gone and in collections and albums only photos from camera roll are present though I can view them on iPhoto for Mac. Perhaps iCloud photos on iOS are stored somewhere else now? If anyone who encountered this issue could leave a response or a fix to the problem I would really appreciate it.

In iOS 8, new photo stream photos will appear in the Recently Added album in the Albums section of the Photos app.  Older photo stream photos (as well as new ones) will appear in the Photos section.
See Get help finding your Photos in iOS 8.

  • All photos gone after setting up iCloud?? Please help!!!

Hi, I've had my iPhone for about a month decided and decided to finally set up my ICloud. It said I needed to verify my email address, which I did. As soon as my iCloud account was set up, I noticed that all of my photos were gone. Somebody please help!! Why did it do this and is there any way I can get my photos back???

iCloud doesn't "delete" photos. You have lost them some other way. Most people sync to different computer and loose them or sync with computer that that has none saved. Camera roll remains no matter what computer you sync. Restoring may have erased them. If they were from photo stream sign into icloud at settings>icloud> and turn on photostream.

  • Photos gone after a sync

Hi my mum just did a sync of her iphone and lost all the old photos(it didnt warn her this would happen) of her dad who passed away, there not on her computer as she had a virus and lost the lot and now there off her phone, please someone tell me that she can get those photos back?????

Sorry, but the photos are gone. We get posts every day here like yours. Fact is, the iPhone is not a storage device. These photos should have been on your mom's computer & that data regularly backed up. When she performed a sync, with these photos no longer on her computer, the sync process(as designed) erased them from her phone. Had these photos been on her computer(again, as designed), that would not have happened.
