Photos has attempted to repair the Library, but is unable to open it.
Updated to 10.10.3, Photos App replaced iPhotos App. Launched Photos, Got Started, Chose My iPhoto Library from the list, the following message comes up:
The Library Could not be opened. Photos has attempted to repair the Library 'My iPhoto Library', but is unable to open it.
More info: At the time of the OS update, My iPhoto Library was temporarily in my external hard drive. I moved the Library back to my Mac, permissions appear to be fine. I don't have iPhotos anymore to test the health of the library, I could install from App Store and try if really needed and unless a work around.
Any help is much appreciated, thank you in advanced.

You should still have your iPhoto app in the Applications folder. If it isn't iPhoto 9.6.1 then read the following:

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

After doing a software update for iPhoto, some of the photos in my library appear distorted and stretched. I have tried repairing the library, rebuliding and repairing the thumbnails but they are still distorted. Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?
What upgrade did you apply? As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

I have received an error message relating to an attached USB hard drive (not a back up and not Time Capsule) advising that "disk name" cannot be repaired. Back up your data and reformat. When I attempted to verify the disk with Disk Utility, I was advised that the disk could not be unmounted. What can I do to repair the disk?

I have a new mac book air and somehow iPhoto was installed twice. Also, a second library was created and it became the default library. I attempted to switch to the original library but it won't open. what can I do to revert to the old library?
Both iPhotos open to a default library (#2) which has 300+ photos, I attempted to "switch to library" under the file tab in iPhoto and tried to choose "other library" which had most of my photos. When I attempt to open it, it doesn't do anything. I can see it and there are 2 libraries but it won't open.
Have you tried to open your old iPhoto library by double-clicking it directly, instead of using the File menu? That should work, if you are running iPhoto '11 and the library has been created by that version or an older version. DO you get an error message, if you select the library directly in the Finder?
I checked and it is the latest version of iPhoto.
Is it iPhoto '11, version 6.0.5? "Latest version" is ambiguous, because it will depend on your system version.
Where is your iPhoto Library stored? -
Can anyone help? I gather a couple of pictures were corrupted in my library and since then every time I open iphoto the following message appears
"The photo has been placed in the folder /Users/evabosch/Pictures/iPhoto Library.photolibrary Recovered Photos." Then a folder is created with nothing inside.
I can of course delete the folders but I would like to clean the system of this.
Thank you!
OSX 10.9.5Quit iPhoto if it is open.
Hold down the ⌘ (command) and option keys while you open iPhoto to open iPhoto Library First Aid.
Read and follow the instructions. I recommend the "Repair Database" option. -
My iPhoto library has suddenly disappeared from my computer.
When i click on iPhoto it tells me to choose my library or create a new one. However no library option appears. I have searched the computer for the library but it does not seem to exist anymore. I did not have time machine set up, so there is no back up. Is there any way i can retrieve my library?
Here is a picture of what appears when i click on iPhoto:In terms of searching i have searched for photos on my finder. However, none of the photos that appear are from my iPhoto Library.
Search with FindAnyFile. You can download it here: http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php
Search for any file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the name. If you added at least one image to your library, the library should contain a file with this name, see OldToad's post: Re: Since I updated to iPhoto 9.5.1, my library is not listed or available. How can I find it? Can I use the time machine to restore it? -
A photo has been found in the iphoto library that has not been imported???
When i open iphoto i get a message saying "a photo has been found in the iphoto library that has not been imported, would you like to import it?" I have tried what everyone is saying to do, but when i look under show package contents there is no import folder to move. only a folder that says contents and i've looked all through that, still no import folder. Even though i click no i do not want the photo imported it still is stored on my external hard drive and every so often i have to go delete TONS of photos and when you click on the photo it doesn't even actually show up as anything.
but when i look under show package contents there is no import folder to move. only a folder that says contents
You're looking at the iPhoto.app package. Those instructions are for the iPhoto Library package. That's in your Pictures Folder. -
I had to erase my hard drive and then reinstall everything back from my passport external hard drive. Now my iPhoto edit is not working. I get a blank screen when I want to edit. The photos show up in the library but I cannot edit them. Help?
There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
*1. Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
*2. Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
*3. A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
*4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
*5. A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help:
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Every time I open Iphoto I get the following message: "A photo has been found in the Iphoto library that was not imported. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Quit iPhoto and to to the iPhoto library (by default in your pictures folder) - right click (control click) on it and select show package contents - find the folder named import (on importing) and drag it to the desktop - DO NOT MAKE ANY OTHER CHANGES - launch iPhoto and you will be fine.
Open the import(ing) folder and if there is nothing in it that you need move it to the trash and empty the trash

Everytime I open iphoto, my computer tells me, A photo has been found in the iPhoto Library that was not imported. Would you like to import it. If I import it, a message comes up Unreadable file, the following file could not be imported. them it tells me where the file is and it cannot be opened. If I do not import, then it says,The photo has been placed in the folder /Users/patrick*******/Pictures/iPhoto Library Recovered Photos_4. It will just keep adding to recvovered photos. This drives me crazy!!!!!!! How do I fix this?
I had this problem some months ago and the following solution from Terrence Delvin put things right:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.
However, since connecting a memory stick to my computer, I now have the same problem again. This time there is no folder called 'Import' or 'Importing' so what should I do? -

Please help needed os x lion I wish to transfer photos from the iPhoto library to a album or folder then delete them from the Library but when I do this it also deletes them from the album ? how do I do this please.
Albums are not places to store photos, they're more like "labels" you can apply to photos to better organize them. A single image file can be in multiple albums... they are not copies, it's simply been labelled as being in all those albums. So what you're trying to do doesn't make sense, because it's based on incorrect assumptions.
The iPhoto library will always show all photos that you have added to iPhoto. -
I want to add a CD to my IPod Classic, the CD has been loaded into my library but my iPod is not showing on i-tunes and I can't get the CD onto my iPod.
Well if your iPod is not appearing under Devices in iTunes when you have it plugged into a high powered USB 2.0 port, then that would explain why this newly loaded CD has not synced to it yet.
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?
