Photos in 4.0.3 PDFs are unintentionally rotated
in IPHOTO 4.0.3, the “create a PDF” portion of the “print” function is rotating all photos in the PDF 90 degrees counterclockwise. in other applications including safari, appleworks, preview, and text edit the “create a PDF” function places the images correctly upright.
does anyone have a solution for this oddity? thank you very much.

I am in the process of expanding a database of chemistry journal articles. These materials are ideally acquired in two formats when both are available-- PDF and HTML. To oversimplify, PDFs are for the user to read, and derivatives of the HTML versions are for the computer to read. Both formats are, of course, readily recognized and indexed by Spotlight. Journal articles have two essential components with regards to a database: the topical content of the article itself, and the cited references to other scientific literature. While a PDF merely lists these references, the HTML version has, in addition, links to the cited items. Each link URL contains the digital object identifier (doi) for the item it points to. A doi is a unique string that points to one and only one object, and can be quite useful if rendered in a manner that enables indexing by Spotlight. Embedded URL's are, of course, ignored by Spotlight. As a result, HTML-formatted articles must be processed so that URL's are openly displayed as readable text before Spotlight will recognize them. Conversion to DOC format using MS Word, followed by conversion to RTF using Text Edit accomplishes this, but is quite labor intensive.
In the last few months, I have added about 3,500 articles to this collection, which means that any procedure for rendering URL's must be automated and able to process large batches of documents with minimal user oversight. This procedure needs to generate a separate file for each HTML document processed. Trials using Automator's "Get Specified Finder Items" and "Get Selected Finder Items", as well as "Ask For Finder Items" (along with "Get URLs From Web Pages") give unsatisfactory results. When provided with multiple input documents, these three commands generate output in which the URLs from multiple input items are merged into a single block, which yields a single file using "Create New Word Document" as the subsequent step. A one-to-one, input file to output file result can be obtained by processing one file at a time, but this requires manual selection of each item and one-at-a-time processing. What I need is a command that accepts multiple input documents, but processes them one at a time, generating a separate output for each file processed. Is there a way for Automator to do this?Hi,
With the project all done, i'm preparing for the presentation. Managed to get my hands on a HD beamer for the night (Epason TW2000) and planning to do the presentation in HD.
That of course managed to bring up some problems. I posted a thread which i'll repost here . Sorry for the repost, i normally do not intend to do this, but since this thread is actually about the same thing, i'd like to ask the same question to you. The end version is in AfterEffects, but that actually doesn't alter the question. It's about export:
"I want to export my AE project of approx 30 min containing several HD files to a Blu Ray disc. The end goal is to project the video in HD quality using the Epson EMP-TW2000 projector. This projector is HD compatible.
To project the video I need to connect the beamer to a computer capable of playing a heavy HD file (1), OR burn the project to a BRD (2) and play it using a BRplayer.
I prefer option 2, so my question is: which would be the preferred export preset?
Project specs:
- 1920x1080 sq pix (16:9)
- 25 fps
- my imported video files (Prem.Pro sequences) are also 25 fps and are Progressive (!)
To export to a BRD compatible format, do i not encounter a big problem: my projectfiles are 25 fps and progressive, and I believe that the only Bluray preset dispaying 1920x1080 with 25 fps requests an INTERLACED video (I viewed the presets found on this forum, this thread)... There is also a Progr. format, BUT then you need 30 fps (29,...).
So, is there one dimension that can be changed without changing the content of the video, and if yes which one (either the interlacing or the fps).
I'm not very familiar with the whole Blu-ray thing, I hope that someone can help me out."

Can I mover photos around in iPad? There are photos on the camera roll-are those the ones I took with iPad? Then there are the ones labeled as imported-I guess those are the ones I took with my camera? Can I combine pictures from both into one album? Thanks.
At the moment no, you cannot move photos between albums in the Photos app directly on the iPad - but with iOS 5 (which will be free to download) in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :

I am in complete chock fearing that all my family photos from the last 7 years are lost!
I have had ALL my family photos in the Adobe Stater Edition. Lately, I have been requested to register to get an unlock code every time I wanted to see photos or download new photos. I have tried to register but has been informed that the Adobe Starter Edition does not exist anymore. Yesterday, I therefore loaded all my photos into Picasa. I worked with the photos for about one hour - and then they suddently all disappeared. I seached for the photoes everywhere but they are completely gone... they are not on the hard disk at all. How is that possible? The photos were located on the hard disc in the "Picture folder" in a subfolder named "Adope". This subfolder was created automatically, years ago, when I started to load photo into the Adope Starter Edition. This subfolder is now empty - how is that possible? If I now start up the Adobe Starter Edition I get the usual "unlock message" - but behind the message I can see some of my photos but maybe this is just a "dead" bacground from my last attempt to get the unlock code?
What should I do - can anybody please help me? I am willing to upgrade to whatever type of Adobe product it requires to get the last 7 years of my family life back.
And yes... I did a full back-up of my photos app. 12 months ago... I looked for it yesterday in complete panic... it is gone... we had a burglary last summer... and yesterday I realized that it has been stolen.
ALL - ALL!! the photos of my two wonderful girls growing up... sitting in the Danish summer fields with floral wreaths on their head... I cannot believe it... I fell I have lost their childhood.

KirstenIn Picasa, look under to Tools menu, under Options, and at the bottom, it shows 'Save Imported Pictures in...'; look at where it is saving files, then look for a folder called Picasa at that location; could be that it moved all your files to there.

I have uploaded photos from the past and they are automatically arranged by date. As a result, there are many events grouped into one library/event/folder/album (not sure of the proper terminology) I'd like to separate them into folders/albums/smart albums so that I can easily identify the contents. How do I do that and do I delete the originals?
It would be good to take the tutorials and learn iPhoto - these are for the previous version but the concepts are the same and much of the command is the same - and it would be a worthwhile investment of time to take the iphoto tutorials - http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/ - they are very helpful and will save you a lot of time and frustration. - also the tutorials in iPhoto Help will be helpful - while iPhoto is easy and intuitive it does have a learning curve and it will save you time and pain if you spend a few minutes learning the basics
as to organization - events are generally time based and are the basic automatic organization - you can merge and split them to make them work better for you but they are not a good way to do detailed organization - best to leave them time based
albums are logical things that contain photos and are just pointers to the photo in the event so they take no extra space and all changes to a photo anywhere are reflected everywhere
Smart albums are the same except they are automatically filled based on the criteria you set when you create them
Folders are containers that you create and a folder can contain albums, smart albums or other folders so they are a big help in organization - like a vacation folder that holds folders for France, USA, China with each of thos folders holding albums of photos from the country

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder. -
I have an iPhone 4 with legacy photos from an iPhone 3 now stored as a DCIM file on the i/Phone 4. When I try to download the photos to my PC only the photos taken with the iPhone 4 are recognized and downloaded. I can still see all the photos on the DCIM file but my PC doesn't recognize them. How do I download these old photos?
I've tried both ways. My Computer locates the device but doesn't see the old photos, only listing the new photos.
I no longer have the iphone3; I just transferred the photos from the 3 to the 4.
Was there a format change or file type change or did the transfer process create something different? I can still see and access the old photos if I go to that album on the phone. But that's the only place where I can see them or access them. -
My iPod says "cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found" it also defaults to apple logo when I try to access photos. I think the issues are linked. Any ides?
So you have tried removing/trashing your iPod's photo cache? See here for more information on where to find this file.

Photos taken on my Treo 755p are not syncing to my computer.
Photos taken on my Treo 755p are not syncing to my computer, while the rest of the sync process performs flawlessly. The photos used to transfer to the 'Palm' folder under 'My Pictures' on Windows XP. The transfer used to occur with no problem...but I'm currently not having any luck. I went so far as to backup my Palm files, delete the Palm Desktop software, re-install it and then HotSync the new software with my phone. Does anyone have any tips???

I just noticed that I can no longer select photos out of my finder that are located in my Aperture/Iphoto Library. I used to be able to attach photos to my gmail out of the aperture library in the finder and for some reason, no longer can.
I can't access these images except to go into the applications.
Also, I'd like to import my iphoto library into aperture, and move aperture library to an external drive. I tried the import first, but there wasn't enough space. Then I tried copying over the aperture library onto the external drive but it failed bc it said file was in use.
As it is, I only have 50gb left on my imac, and the aperture library is 150gb. Also, I have over 10k images in both libraries combined and there are tons of duplicates that need to be sorted, and hopefully not messed up because I've organized most of them.
So in short, I need to know how to do the following:
-select photos in finder in aperture/iphoto libraries
-move aperture library to live on external drive
-import iphoto library into aperture library
-eliminate dups but maintain organization
-moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
-live happily ever after
Thanks in advance for any support you can offer!!If you're using apps like iPhoto or Aperture then they replace the Finder for managing your photos. The point is that you use the (many) options available via these apps for the things you want and need to do with the Photos.
So, simply, you don't select the photos in the Finder. I'll append the supported ways to do this - which are faster and will yield the current version of your Photos - to the end of this post.

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit Aperture
2. Copy the Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching Aperture. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Referenced - relocate your Masters first.
These issues are covered in the Manual and on this forum hundreds of times.

You can't. Every photo is in a Project. They’re the basic building blocks of the Library.
You might want to spend a little time with the manual or the video tutorials. I'm not sure you've grasped the app you've purchased.
The following is written for iPhoto, but about 97% works for Aperture too.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto/ APerture: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics. This is what you use to attach your shot to your GMail
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps. If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto/ Aperture.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto/ Aperture not running:
For users of 10.6 and later: You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.

I want to transfer my photos from the PC (windows explorer) to my Ipad. The problem is that a keep my photos in different categories and they are in one large folder and several subfolders (2 or 3 levels of subfolders).When I sent it to the Ipad, it just respect the first level of folder. After the first subfolder, all the photos are mixed. Any idea how to keep my original organization just transferring from PC to the Ipad (folder having a subfolder also having another subfolder)?

DiogoThe Photos app doesn't currently support subfolders, it only has the one level of folder/album. You will either need to change your folder structure on your computer to be just one level, see if there is a third-party photo app in the store that copes with subfolders, or just make do. Greetings from a Photoshop Newbie. I need a computer, preferably a Mac laptop, with some serious processing power. I take photos with a Pentax 645Z; files are 50MB raw. I upload from Adobe Bridge and manipulate the photo, sometimes turning them into files in excess of 250MB. I cannot resize as the large files are needed for enlargements. Have all sorts of problems trying to manipulate, add effects and saving most large files. I need some serious processing power. Can anyone suggest what Mac i should purchase? I thank you in advance for your help :-)
It sounds as if you're having some system-related problems now, unrelated to processing power as such. In particular, a buggy video driver can cause everything to slow to a crawl.
Medium format files are big, true, but not so big as to cause significant slowdowns on a normally functioning and reasonably current computer. A laptop will always be slower than a well-equipped desktop system, though. Mac vs PC plays no part in this, performance is unrelated to platform.
Bottlenecks are different in ACR and Photoshop, so that should give you a clue. ACR is computing-intensive and mostly limited by CPU speed. Photoshop, however, is mostly bandwidth-intensive and mainly limited by memory and disk throughput. It's also sensitive to GPU issues. -

I used Colormunkie Photo to create an .ICM file for printer calibration. When that failed I tried changing the suffix to .ICC. Under neither circumstance did LR4.2 display the file in the menu to select printer profile. There were several display files with both suffixes but no printer files at all. I tried three times with no success and cannot think of what else to try. The first two were the same. I varied the file creation name suffix in the third. Help will be appreciated. My OS is Win 7 ultimate SP1 Printer is HP 2550L laserjet.Tillman
Glad you found your answer, Colormunki is smart enough to figure out the color space for the printer as I found out - But for quality work the latest generation of inkjet printers from Epson and Canon are hard to beat, and compared to a laserjet the quality is like night and day. The other benefit of changing up to an inkjet printer is the choice of papers available which you could not put through a laserjet.
I had a colleague that tried printing on Photoglossy paper through his color laser and it fried the fuser, and HP, while they replaced the fuser unit under warranty, made it very clear that that was a daft thing to do.
So if I were in your position I would go with an inkjet and you will then enjoy the benefits of better quality output, better paper choices and with your Colormunki be able to make custom profiles that will work in LR

Under Option Summary, the usage includes AUDIO, PHOTOS, APPS and OTHERS. What are the things included in OTHERS? It is using up my storage space. Can someone please help?
To add to Nick's comments, "Other" is typically approximately 1 gigabyte. Occasionally for some users, it gets much (many times) bigger because they have some corrupt files. If that's the case, it's best to restore the iPhone.
Plug the iPhone into (current) iTunes, let it sync, then choose "Restore" on the right. If restoring from the iPhone backup does not help, then restore (again) as new and then manaully sync the iPhone.
