Photos in ID question.

I am a photographer and have never used ID.
A client of mine uses my photos in ID and we have the workflow listed below...
1. I shoot for my clients client.
2. I send low res proofs to both.
3. They arrange page layout.
4. They send list of photos they chose back to me.
5. I retouch/edit chosen photos in PS.
6. I send edited hi res photos back to client with the same file name as the low res proofs.
7. Job done.
I would have thought that once the original low res proof photos were replaced with the high res finished photos (in whatever directory the low res were originally in) ID might have applied the same resizing/cropping/stretching adjustments that were applied to the original low res photo to the hi res photo that replaced it. Is there a way to make this happen?
I am told that each photo has to be resized to the exact dimensions of its window and obviously that is a huge job and means this workflow is really crappy.
Sorry if parts of this are had to understand... can anyone help?
Thanks.

Thank-you both for the response.
I have checked and for some reason the PS (CS5) proof sizing automation I was using was changing the print dimensions too... this must have been the problem.
I have now re-created the PS proof sizing automation so it just changes res from 300 to 72dpi and save as jpeg quality 8 and for some reason the print dimensions are slightly different.
Original= 24.11cm x 36.31cm
Proof= 24.09cm x 36.03cm (after only changing res from 300 to 72dpi and jpeg qual to 8.)
I know why it does this is probably a PS question but given the above answers do you think this small difference will lead to the original problem in ID (CS4)?
Also, (asking a lot I know) any comments of the workflow from a ID perspective?

No, you will have to replace the switch or do an out-of-warranty replacement at an Apple Store.

  • Photo stream account questions

    good day all!
hoping to get some advice as i searched the web and cant find it.
both questions pertain to photo stream
    1. if i am using a 'shared photo stream' is there a setting that will allow me to automatically upload every photo i take on my iphone 4s to the shared photo stream. if such what is the method.
    2. is it possible to have more than one photo stream account on the same computer. i know i downloaded icloud on my computer but it didnt tell me if it was possible to have more than one photo stream account. i noticed i could sign out of icloud and assume sign in with a different account but how would it seperate both and what would happen to the first photo stream account when i logged off the computer.
    thanks for answering!

Make sure you are using the correct Apple ID user name and password.
On your MBAir, open System Preferences > iCloud. Deselect the box next to Photo Stream then reselect the box then restart your Mac.
On your iOS devices tap Settings > iCloud. Switch Photo Stream off then back on, then reset.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Photo Gallery Scripting Question

Hello all. I got a question that I am sure seems elementary
to you, but leaves me stuck.
I want the thumb that represents the image that is being
viewed to have an alpha of 80. Thanks in advance..

I had to go into firefox and clear the cookies and that
worked. But, there has to be an easier way to do this. I don't want
to tell people on my site that every time the photo gallery is
updated, they have to clear the cookies in the foxfire browser to

  • Photosmart Plus B209 - Photo Black Ink Question

Hi I just brought the Photosmart Plus and notice that there are 2 types of black for this printer and only one slot on the printhead for the black ink.  I am still using the starter black that came with the printer.  So my question is if I want to print a photo, do I just switch the regular black out with the photo black and switch it back when finished printing the photo? or Should I finish the starter black first then switch to photo black. TIA!!

  • Converting Photos to HD Question?

I do not do much video editing so I'm not sure which would be the best way to do this. I am trying to make a HD DVD of about 200ish photos from the Masters. They are of course pics so it would be a slide show. I have Toast 7 and it has an app that came with it, and there is iMovie HD that came with OS X. What would be the easiest way to take the photos that are on my harddrive and convert them to high def and them burn them? I was doing pretty good with the app that came with Toast but it froze up the whole system when I was previewing the movie.
I did have the settings on high def and that is the first time I have heard both of the fans come on since I've had my MBP. Sorry for the stupid question, but I have never done this before.

Does anyone have know how to utilize HighDef on the
Macbook Pro, not just in this example?
Wanting to make it "HighDef" is impossible, because there are no burners for HD-DVD or Blu-Ray (the two competing formats for TRUE hd content.)
However, you CAN make your video 16:9 instead of 4:3 for the aspect ratio. That will make your video fit the widescreen format of an HDTV. I think that's what you have in mind.
Again, the way I do it is using Photo to Movie. Click on File, Make Movie. Then click Quicktime at the top. In the Movie Format dropbox, pick Custom. Then click Video... Choose Best for the quality, then pick 16:9 for the aspect ratio.
I saw in the comments above that you want to use software that came with your mac. Great. Here's how you do it in iPhoto. Select the pictures you want to make into a photo montage, then click Slideshow at the bottom.
In the slideshow, click the Settings button. Under the dropdown box for Slideshow Format, choose 16:9 Widescreen. That will fill the whole screen on an HDTV. Change the duration to somewhere between 6-8 seconds, depending on your preferences. Click OK.
the checkbox next to Ken Burns Effect, click end and enlarge it a little using the slider in the lower righthand corner. Now click preview. You'll see a little zoom effect. If you want it to zoom out, make the start bigger than the end. You can also choose where the picture starts and stops by clicking on it and dragging it around. Pretty cool! When you have the first picture the way you want it, click the right arrown in the bottom righthand corner of the screen and do it for the next one. And so on, and so on, ad nauseum.
Click on the music setting to select the music. I like to set up a playlist in iTunes that contains the songs I want to use. I then click the Settings button and say Fit Slideshow to Music. It will automatically adjust the length of each picture so that the pictures overlay the songs perfectly. If I have 12 min of music (three 4-minute songs) that's about perfect for 40-50 pictures.
When you're all ready, click the Play button and watch it. Fix anything you don't like.
Now when you're REALLY ready, click the Share menu up top, then pick Export to iDVD. Pick a theme in iDVD, burn it, and enjoy! This is obviously brief, but I figured you could get what I didn't cover here from the help files.
    Good luck!

  • Exporting photos for email question

In Mac OS 9 my Quicktime Pictureviewer would quickly open my large JPG files and then I could simply click file export (while viewing each photo) and Pictureviewer would automatically resize (to around 800x600) and compress the photos as I exported them.
Is there an easy way to do this now in Tiger? I can do it through my version of Photoshop elements, but it is a pain in Elements 2.0 as I have to resize each time, and click several other options to finally get what I want (a compressed 800x600 file under 200kb). In a nutshell, Elements just makes it too tedious to do when, say, I have a hundred or so photos I took and want to very quickly export them to a folder that I later mass email to family and friends.
Any suggestions on how I can do this with what comes with Tiger (like Preview) or if I upgrade to Quicktime Pro will I then get a Pictureviewer for OS X that will do what I use to do?

    First of all, thanks!
I did open mail and dragged the photo files to the mail window (I'm emailing to someone) and then on the bottom of the mail window clicked small and it reduced those photos to what I wanted.
My question to you is when you speak of "iPhoto," is iPhoto apart of my X Tiger or is iPhoto an Apple internet service? I couldn't find "iPhoto" using Spotlight as being on my computer. When I double click a photo image I have on my computer, "Preview" opens. Is "Preview" a version of/or is the same as "iPhoto?" I can't find anywhere in Preview where I can click a button to email the photo I'm currently viewing.
    Much thanks in advance.

  • Exporting photo as "Original" question

I shoot RAW (Canon 7D) and import my RAW files in LR, make my edits, export as JPG and also, just incase I want to go back and tweak my edits I export the file as "orginal" which if I understand it correctly, LR makes a copy of my .cr2 file. I compared the original CR2 file to the copy LR makes and see a slight color difference but that's all.
Is it safe to delete the original CR2 files from my camer and keep the "original" copy the LR makes when I export?

    This is my original workflow:
Export CR2 files from Camera via memory card reader
Create folder structure with date and then subfolder named RAW that holds the CR2 files
Open Geosetter and keyword photos as well as geotag (I know LR4 does this, however, geosetter allows me to keyword much easier as well as geotag)
    Import CR2 files into LR
    Edit photos
    Export photos as JPG
Export photos as DNG (to keep edits)
Create a subfolder named DNG to keep as well as the original downloaded CR2 files from the camera
This process is fine with me and works, however, keeping the DNG and the CR2 files really takes up a lot of space; I don't keep my LR catalog for very long as I don't find it useful for viewing, sorting photos, I much prefer ZoomBrowser for that or Windows Photo Viewer
The workflow I originally inquired on in my first post:
Export CR2 files from Camera via memory card reader
Create folder structure with date and then subfolder named RAW that holds the CR2 files
Open Geosetter and keyword photos as well as geotag (I know LR4 does this, however, geosetter allows me to keyword much easier as well as geotag)
    Import CR2 files into LR
    Edit photos
    Export photos as JPG
Export photos as "original" (to keep edits) which creates a .cr2 file (I'm guessing a copy- hopefully a 1:1 copy) and a sidecar file that contains the edits
My question was regarding step 7 in this new workflow, my concern is that the LR copy of the .cr2 file is actually EXACTLY the same as the original .CR2 file from my camera.
This process may not work for some, but it does for me. I'm also considering, exporting the edits as "original", discarding the copied .cr2 files and keeping the sidecar files. I tried that and it seems to work well.

  • Flash photo gallery .xml question (Firefox)

I made a photo gallery using SimpleViewer (
    http://www.airtightinteractive.com/simpleviewer/)
The gallery worked perfectly in both IE and Firefox, but I
made some changes and added some new photos to the gallery more
than 24 hours ago. The changes showed up right away in IE, but in
Firefox, it still shows my 'old' gallery. I can still see the
gallery fine. The file is .xml and I was wondering if there was a
code or something I could use (maybe in the html file) so that
Firefox would be more compatible and make the changes
    quicker.

I had to go into firefox and clear the cookies and that

has anyone had success connecting their iPod video to a tv set using the iPod photo av cables?
    thanks in advance.

if you want a real cheap way- get a set of camcorder AV cables- they work, but this is what you have to do-
    (1) plug the 1/8" jack into ipod video
    (2) plug RED RCA jack into YELLOW port on TV
    (3) plug YELLOW RCA jack into WHITE port on TV
    (4) plug WHITE RCA jack into RED port on TV

  • Photo Book Quality Questions

I'm currently working on an XL Photo Book using iPhoto 11.
I know iPhoto says I can create a max of 100 pages. I wonder, is this 50 pages double sided or actually 100 pages double sided?
Secondly, I read some older threads about image quality and OT recomending to bump up the DPI to 300 or 400. He mentiond Pref Setter and included links, however, the links no longer work. Where /how can I do this? In addition, am I too late in bumping up the DPI, or can I just continue to create my book and increase the DPI before I actually click "Buy Book"?
    Thanks!

    100 Pages is 50 double-sided.
The material about the DPI is no longer relevant in iPhoto 11.
