Photos in iPhoto... in iMovie

I imported a couple groups of photos into iPhoto and opened iMovie to add them to a video I've been working on. Once they're in there, some play correctly, while others just show a black/blank screen instead of the photo.
A peek in the Finder revealed them to all be JPG files... any ideas of something else that may be causing the error?

The photos are of poor resolution.

  • Problems "pulling" photos from iPhoto into iMovie....

I am trying to create a movie with a combination of movie clips from my DV camera and photos from iPhoto (on my G5, 2ghz iMac). Movie clips are no problem. The problem occurs when I try and "pull" in more than 20 pics or so from iPhoto. I am trying to "pull" them in via "Media" and then "Photos". If I try and pull in a bunch, say more than 20, iMovie quits and I have to start all over again. Is this a bug and is there any workaround?

I actually think this is one area where iMovie6 does a lot better than iM5. My machine used to choke all the time when I would try to drag a whole bunch of photos into timeline. The reason is that whenever you bring in photos like that, they have to be rendered, so trying to render a whole lot of stuff is going to be time dependent based on your processor, memory etc. (and the settings you have for timelength, ken burns effect etc.) iM5 tried to render everything simultaneously and would always lock up on me. iM6 appears to render one at a time so it eventually finishes, but then I stopped trying to import large bunches of photos after my iM5 experience so I can't say where the limit is.
I've gotten so fond of playing with the ken burns effect and setting the start and stop points that I pretty much do all my images one at a time now because it can render the last one while I'm picking settings for my next one.

  • How can I import video and photos from iphoto to imovie?

Hi, I am having trouble importing media from iphoto into imove (imovie 10.5)
I am using a macbook pro 13 inch, early 2013 running mavericks.
I have created an event in imovies into which I would like to import both photos and videos from my iphoto library. However, when the import window opens, the list of options from where I can import has iphoto, but it is not clickable; I can not open it.
I have successfully imported from iphoto in the recent past on the same computer, but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong this time.
    Thanks for any suggestions

    OK, according to
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3290
your camera is supported by iMovie 9.  Perhaps the question is better asked in the iMovie forum.  Would you like me to ask a moderator to move the thread?

  • A number of imported photos from iphoto in imovie project all show the same image whilst the preview before dragging them in is correct. What could be the problem?

A number of photos from iphoto used in imovie project all show the same image when playing back. The previw when clicking and dragging them and also the pictures in the storyline. Yet when playing the clip a previous immage keeps on appearing. What could be the problem?

You created a mess and there is no solution - with the actions you have taken those photos are gone unless you have access to them from some other source - they existed in two place - in your iPhoto library and on your backup drive - you have traded the backup drive and restore an earlier iPhoto library so all you have is what you have

  • Uploading Photos from Iphoto to Imovie if they're jpegs.

I've put together an album that I'd like to import into my imovie but it won't let me import the photos because they're all in the jpg format.
Is there anything I can do?

Open one of the .jp2 files in Preview, then Save As a .jpeg file at Best Quality. See if this imports to both iPhoto and iMovie.
I've found that some jpegs from 3rd party products don't always work with some of the iLife applications, such as iPhoto. Re-saving them with Preview generally fixes this.
By the way, .jp2 is the extension used for JPEG2000 files. This format is a later (improved) version of jpeg (introduced in 2000), but hasn't been universally adopted unfortunately. This is possibly why iMovie isn't recognising the .jp2 files - perhaps Apple have just provided for the standard (more common) file types. Hopefully, saving in Preview will fix this for you.

  • When I import photos from iPhoto into iMovie, it becomes blurry, why????

I have 10.0.4 version of iMovie.  I have made movies before & have never had this problem.  The pictures are clear in iPhoto.  I have tried making it a "still" photo instead of using the Ken Burns effect...still blurry.  Please help!!!  This is a video for my nephew's wedding so I need it fixed!

My solution was rather easy-too easy. A "duh" moment...... All I had to do to be able to put photos on my iMovie was to create a new iMovie project-I thought that one that was there when I opened iMovie for the first time was a 'project' but apparently not. Once I went to File--->New Project and then found the iPhoto library where the pictures were that I wanted in the project, I could now drag those pictures into the top left corner. Like I said, it was a "duh" moment for me and I hope this helps you out! It was so simple but not obvious at first. Let me know if it works for you or not. Judy

  • How do I move photos from iphoto to imovie trailer?  It says just drag and drop but it doesn't take them.

Macbook Pro imovie 11 trailer says to "just drag and drop photos" but it doesn't work????

You cannot put photos in a trailer. They are designed for videos.
However, there is a way around this.
Go to the Project Library view. Select your Trailer. Now, click FILE/CONVERT TO PROJECT.
    Now you can add photos.

  • Dragging photos from iphoto to imovie HD- Why do I lose the picture quality

Whenever I preview the picture the quality is great but when I drag it into the timeline it degrades with the Ken Burns effect. Any guess as to why? I'm new to Mac so this may be obvious, just not to me yet.

  • Photos in iphoto OK but not showing up in imovie library

Help - I'm rying to import some still photos from iphoto into imovie - got most of them, but a few are missing. They show up in iphoto, but when I access them through imovie, they are missing. Even if I flag it or create a new event. I changed the bitmap to jpeg but that didn't make any difference.

Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

  • Loss of quality of photos when importing from iphoto to imovie

A question... When I import high resolution photos from iphoto and look at the preview on imovie HD, the quality is the same great quality that I can see on iphoto. Once I import the photo clip onto imovie, however, the quality is very poor on the imovie playback. This drop in quality is regardless of whether Ken Burns effect is used or not.
I already checked the quality on imovie preferences and it is already selected as the highest quality (default setting)
Any clues as to why the photo image quality should drop to such a poor image when importing a photo from iphoto to imovie?

    Hi L
There are a great difference on photos shown on a Mac with eg. iPhoto or
PhotoShop and what's going to video.
    a. Different resolution. Just the number of lines as the selected type of project
eg: PAL 4x3 = 625 lines ≈ same in pixles (But square not elongated or visa versa)
    b. iMovie "Viewer" is just an approximation. I connected my miniDV Camera
to FW and analog to a TV. Select in pref - Play back via Camera. Now I see
the final quality on my TV. Usally much better.

  • How do i use videos i shot with my iphone saved in iPhoto  on iMovie

  • Iphoto to imovie not working

can anyone please help me, i am unable to import some of my photos from iphoto to imovie for no apparent reason, they are of the same format as others that i have successfully imported

You will need to download a free app called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (Google it)
Now, in iMovie, select the video clip that contains the still you want. Right-click on it and select Reveal in Finder.
Drag this Finder clip into MPEG Streamclip.
Move the Playhead in MPEG Streamclip to the frame that contains the still that you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
In the dialog box, choose JPEG, PNG, or TIFF and give it a location to save to.
You can drag this file into iPhoto.

  • How can I export a slideshow from iPhoto to iMovie 09.  I try but it only lets me import 211 out of the 311 photos I have in the slideshow.

How can I export a slideshow from iPhoto to iMovie 09.  I try, but it only exports 211 out of the 311 photos I have in the slideshow I made on iPhoto.

how do i change the format to the right one?
Before you can decide what to do, you have to know what you are starting with. Sony MPEG-1 files would be converted one way while DivX or WMV files would likely be handled in another. Extraneous tracks can be removed directly with QT Pro but if you don't have QT Pro then there may or may not be other work around possibilities depending on the specific audio and video compression formats in use. The best place to start would normally be to double-clic the source file in iPhoto to open it in the QT Player. When it opens in the QT Player, check the "Inspector" window to see what it says on the "Format:" lines. This will tell you the type of audio and video content you are dealing with here. Then come and tell us so we can offer some specific conversion solutions.
