Photos in iPhoto / iWeb

If I've used a photo in iWeb from iPhoto and then delete the photo from iPhoto, does the photo remain in iWeb or does it become a blank space?

iWeb will "remember" it. The info is stored in the domain.sites2 file.

  • How do I resize/change resolution of photos from iPhoto when used in iWeb

I am shooting with a 7.1 Mega Pixel Canon to get enough quality to crop and print high quality pictures of my baby daughter and her adventures in the world.
I have a website up made with iWeb, but when I select the photos in iPhoto and go Share / Sent to iWeb / photo page - I get a nice layout of the photos but at full resolution when the thumbnails are selected or the slide show is run. Although nice and sharp, this is a pain for anyone looking at the site even with high speed access.
There must be some way to resize photos, but I have yet to figure that out with iPhoto, let alone iWeb. And as one photo at a time is a pain, there must also be a way to rescale a whole selection of photos that I want to use for a page - say her Disneyworld trip. I can't be the first person to run into this, but I have not found anything out there to point me in the right direction.
Ideally I wold like to create a resized set from the originals - so I can still print and crop in high qulity. I also am not really sure what resolution would be best or easy viewing and download - that's probably subjective. 1200x800 comes to mind but I am open to suggestions.
Perhaps resize is not the right term - changing resolution is probably more accurate, but there too I have not found an answer.
    Appreciate the help and suggestions.

    dan28088,
Tried your site on two different browsers, using highspeed broadband; the site is, indeed, extaordinarily slow. We can dissect the thing down to the last file, but it won't change anything, as far as I can see. If it were me, I would host the site on another server. The .Mac servers are just plain slow, period. I think that is the primary problem here. Just my opinion, others may disagree.
I created a new site this past weekend for a new project, and published it to .Mac. It contains a lot of jpeg files in slideshows (along with the usual png suspects!) . After reviewing it a few times, and not being satisfied with page-load speeds, I published to a folder and uploaded the site to space on 1&1 WebHosting.
The page-load speeds TRIPLED. That's right...3X as fast page-load speeds. Even large, linked to files, 3MB+, load within a reasonable amount of time. (seconds)
I still will keep a .Mac subscription, as I like and use all of the other features of the iDisk. But for serious website hosting, I think you will be better 'served' with a remote host. Your money with .Mac is certainly not wasted; the syncing services and other features of iDisk space that integrate with your local files are well worth the yearly fee. Again, only one user's opinion, based on experience.

  • Importing Photos from iphoto to iweb in proper orientation

I have photos in iPhoto that I have rotated because they were shot vertically but when downloaded into iPhoto they are in a horizontal or "landscape" mode.
When I use the Media browser in iWeb, all images appear as they were originally downloaded, including those that I had rotated to upright position.
Can anyone tell me how to rotate those photos into an iWeb page?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I think it depends on how and when you rotated your images. If you uploaded to your desktop and rotated in Preview, then it only added a tag to tell the Mac how to display the image. The source file was not actually rotated. This would explain why the Media browser doesn't show the rotations.
Easy fix: import images to iPhoto as they come from the camera and rotate from inside iPhoto. This will create a Modified version of the photo that is actually rotated. The Media browser will show you your Modified versions, and they should go into iWeb correctly.

  • Script to change photo caption in iWeb to iPhoto comment text

    Hi,
Does any body know, how I could automatic replace the caption of the photos I have imported from iPhoto with the Media Browser to iWeb with the comment text I have in iPhoto for every photo?
It should be just a script, which gets told the album and the looks for the file name which is in the caption, reads the comment for the photo in iPhoto and then puts replaces the caption with it in iWeb, then the next photo ...
    I'm not good in scripting.;-(
    Thanks and Regards,
    JO

Ok, here my script, what I'm using now to copy the comment to the title in iPhoto before importing the photos to iWeb:
    try
    tell application "iPhoto"
    activate
    copy (my selected_images()) to these_images
if these_images is false then ¬
    error "Please select the images."
display dialog "Copy comment to title for the selected photos?"
set the image_count to the count of these_images
display dialog "Processing " & (the image_count as string) & " photos." & return & return & "This will take a moment..." buttons {"•"} default button 1 giving up after 2
repeat with i from 1 to the image_count
    set this_photo to item i of these_images
    tell this_photo
set the title to the comment of this_photo
    end tell
    end repeat
    end tell
    on error error_message number error_number
    tell application "iPhoto"
    activate
if the error_number is not -128 then
display dialog error_message buttons {"OK"} default button 1
    end if
    end tell
    end try
    on selected_images()
    tell application "iPhoto"
    try
    -- get selection
    set these_items to the selection
-- check for single album selected
if the class of item 1 of these_items is album then error
-- return the list of selected photos
    return these_items
    on error
    return false
    end try
    end tell
    end selected_images

  • Shared photos in iPhotos can't be used in iWeb?

My wife and I both have macs. I'm using iWeb on my machine, but she has a number of family photos in her iPhoto. She shared her iPhoto pictures so I can access them from my machine. In iWeb, I can see the shared album in the media viewer, but the content list is empty. If I open iPhoto and drag-and-drop a shared photo into an iWeb page, I just get a place holder with the name of the photo instead of the actual photo.
It doen't make sense that I'd have to physically copy the photos from her iMac to my PowerPC to use in iWeb...that defeats the purpose of being able to share photos, right?

I'm facing the same thing. Paul - did you ever figure out if this can work or not?

  • Photo Galleries In iWeb

i have a number of photos in iPhoto that i want to upload to my iWeb website. When i drag a whole album over to the gallery it lays all the pictures out on the screen. is there any way to keep them separated in different galleries?

I have done this once... (http://www.teija.se) "Look under Mina Bilder"
But since then i have upgraded to Leopard and lost my site in iWeb and my skills to do this.
So if anyone can help me/us i would appreciate it very much.

  • How to get MobileMe photo galleries into iWeb or from Aperture?

I currenlty use MobileMe for an iWeb  published site, on which I have a link to a several dozen photo galleries, all pub;ished from Aperture.  iPhoto has an iWeb "button", but Aperture does not so far as I can see.  I am trying to find the easiest way to keep all of my stuff intact once MM dies next year.  How can I migrate, not link, my MM photo galleries into iWeb, and/or publish them from Aperture into iWeb?  Once I have the photo galleries as part of iWeb, then I'll be able to use it to publish to another web hosting service.  Thanks!

Do you have the original image files used to make up those MMe Galleries?  If so you can group them into albums in iPhoto and use the iWeb Album page or Photos page and ignore the MMe galleries.
If the files are in Aperture and there's no Aperture section in iWeb's Media Browser you will have to export those files out of Aperture as originals and drag them either into iPhoto or into an iWeb photos page.  I don't use Aperture so an unsure of what can be done between Aperture and iWeb.
If those galleries are the only copy of the photos you have you'll need to download the file (if the gallery allows it) and import into iPhoto before going into iWeb.

  • Can't get rid of stock photo when using iWeb but publishing to non-MobileMe

On one of my pages I have a vertical column of photos with my photos from iPhoto that I dragged and dropped into iWeb. The page was originally based on an iWeb template, though I cannot remember which one.
The problem I am having is that the stock photo sometimes shows up when I publish the website - even though I have dropped a photo in the space, saved it and re-published it. I have gone into the files and deleted the stock photo and I even went to my webhost and deleted the stupid thing there as well. Regardless, the #*!!%@ thing keeps showing up.
I have reloaded the page to my webhost multiple times. I had the same problem a day or two ago and eventually the stock photo stopped showing up, but I have no idea what kind of hocus pocus made it finally disappear and the correct photo show in its place.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    roxpat

It is apparently an iWeb issue. In the template that I used, I guess some aspects are just "in there" and are not able to be removed.
I ultimately removed all of the photos from the page since they had originally started as "drops" into the placeholders and put my photos in manually (not a big deal, of course). I saved it and "published it" to the folder. . .and there was that stupid photo again. I yanked the photo and put it in the trash and went to my webhost and removed the same photo. . .and finally the stock photo went away.
Every time I update the site (or those pages, anyway), I have to go in and remove that #%^#^& photo.
The moral of the story is that I need to just rebuild the page from scratch - without a template. It shouldn't be too hard, but it's more effort than I want to exert at this point

  • Multiple photo albums in iWeb?

How can I create multiple photo albums in iWeb? When I simply pull albums from iPhoto to iWeb, the photos appear individually.

Updated to Firefox 3.6. My Photo Albums display properly on an iWeb site in Safari; they also previously did with the Firefox version I had updated from. However, the photo albums have disappeared now from my Photo Album page.
    http://www.singingstring.org/JM/PhotoAlbums/PhotoAlbums.html
Apparently many people are having this problem but it isn't resolved for anyone. Is it Apple's problem or is it Firefoxe's -- and is this happening in IE too (we don't have IE here on our computers btw)
Since these are professionally-related photo albums it sure would be nice if this could be fixed pronto.

  • Photo resolution on iweb

Does anyone know how to improve the photo resolution on iweb? Can i upload pics from iphoto to iweb with original file size?

Does anyone know how to improve the photo resolution
on iweb? Can i upload pics from iphoto to iweb with
    original file size?
Yes, you can. Not sure why you would want to do this. Web images tend to have to balance image quality with download speed. But sure, you can have your original photo used in iWeb. Just drag it from iPhoto directly into iWeb. Then open up the Inspector and click on the Rulers tab. The click "Use original size". That will be your original photo.
If you make any other changes to your photo like shrinking it down to a little square or rotating it or putting a frame around it, then iWeb will convert your photo to a PNG file and subsequently recompress the image for the PNG file. That will again lower your resolution.

  • Photoshop edited images move to iPhoto & iWeb

I plan to redesign my web site and publish in iWeb. Previously, my web site was developed with FrontPage and hosted on an Earthlink server. My photo images were edited in Photoshop. I assume I will need to import my photos into iPhoto before designing my web site in iWeb. Any advice on photo size, resolution, and file type before I import my photos into iPhoto?

I suspect you will get other responses, but if you haven't seen this it's from the Iweb Help and may be of interest.
    good luck
Resampling (or downsampling) is a method of reducing a photo’s file size. Downsampling helps your website publish faster and helps photos display and download faster for your visitors.
Photos you add to a Photos template are imported full size and downsampled automatically when you publish.
For very large, high-quality RAW and JPG images, you can choose iWeb > Preferences and select “Optimize images on import.” This setting reduces the size of imported images by up to 60 percent so they don’t take up as much space in your Domain file.

  • Photo pages on iWeb.

I've got a site built using iWeb, hosted by a third party (not mac.com).
The site includes photo albums that I've added from my iPhoto library.
Can I delete the photos from my iPhoto library without having them disappear from the site? Or does the site need those photos in iPhoto to reference/link to?
    Thanks in advance,
    - Cathy

Yes, I can delete them in iPhoto, or yes, iWeb needs them to be kept in iPhoto?
    Thanks...

  • Help - can't access photos in iPhoto library after a restore

After a hard drive death, I got a new hard drive and put lots of new photos on iPhoto. Then I found some very old backup discs and used these to restore old photos. Unfortunately this has wiped the new photos from iPhoto... BUT when I go through Finder I can see them under Pictures. When I attempt to import them back to iPhoto it says it can't import them as they are already in the iPhoto Library - but I can't see them when I'm in iPhoto! How do I get them back?!
I have a similar problem with iWeb - my website has disappeared and been replaced with the old version that has been restored. But I can't find where the other has gone.
    Please help!

Sounds like a damaged database file:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
