Photos in Skype Chat not File Transfer

Just upgraded to 6.21 and the promotion seemed to say you can drop images into a chat window rather than a file transfer. Is this correct and how do you do it? Thanks.

If a "friend" did that to me, that person would no longer be my friend.

Is there an option or setting in skype so that when a photo is sent in a group chat I have to approve it for me to download it?  My friend has been spamming photos because he knows it crashes my whole computer and internet, so is there any other way to stop the photos from coming in or just block him?

  • Chat & File Transfer application

I'm currently working on an java client/server application (TCP/IP Socket programming) which allows the user to participate in a chat session and at the same time transfer file to another user that also logon to the same server.
My question is "how to develop this network application which allows chat and file transfer at the same time?? What is the technique involve??" I would appreciate if anyone can provide me some sample code or give me a pointer to some reference.
Thank you!! And Have a nice day!!

Two sockets and two threads handling them? (And possibly a third thread for the GUI?)
Doing two or more things at the same time is sooo basic stuff... http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/threads/index.html

  • P2p chat file transfer

    Hi all,
I have started to make a chat and file transfer appl. between two computer using internet. Can you help some?
I looked into TCP and UDP. When i want to connect to other pc, How do i use ip no to find that computer.
Both of computers use non static ip while connecting. How do i detect the other computer. For example hamachi creates its own ip no.
    Can you advice some way?
    thanks.

IMO you must have signaling server, some like STUN server (in exemple. xmpp (ex jabber) network when you want send file , voice or audio)
I think, You shuld read RFC for XMPP or SIP protocols - maybe this lectures can help you know idea P2P

  • Where is Skype chat history in Lion?

It took me forever to figure this out. Basically, in Lion you don't have easy access to your Library folder anymore (you can only see the main system folder).
I wiped my HDD before installing Lion, and didn't know where to put the Skype chat history files — as I keep those token of all the funny conversations I've had with people. I thought there's a new place or something. But in fact, the Library folder is now hidden.
Thanks to this step-by-step guide I was able to figure it out: http://baumdesign.wordpress.com/2011/08/06/find-restore-skype-5-2-chat-history-i n-mac-os-x-lion/
Hope to save you all some serious time!

    That doesn't work...
But anyway, I wasn't asking — I posted the solution myself, as it took me forever to find out; so that others, if they Google, will find it.

  • IChat File Transfer - yikes.

I'm looking for something that will allow me to transfer files over ip mac to mac. iChat isn't cutting it when transferring rather large files.. such as an episode of south park.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

transfer files over ip mac to mac.
You might want to take a look at iVisit
Mac/PC, Multi-party (up to 16) multi-way (all live) video, audio, chat, messaging, file transfer, desktop sharing and more ...
It works on a wide range of hardware and has lower bandwidth/CPU requirements than iChat.

  • IChat File Transfer/Video Chat won't work... :(

    Hi Everyone,
I am trying to get ichat to allow file transfers/video chatting on my Mac, I have a feeling that the setup through the routers that we have are not allowing it to function as it is constantly giving me errors. My set up is a Cable Modem hooked into a Netgear WGR614 v6 and then an ethernet wire running from that router to a Linksys WRT54G v8. I have the WRT54G set up with the following settings:
    IP: 192.168.1.136
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 192.168.1.1
Static DNS 1 and 2: Are my IP's DNS servers
    Static DNS 3 is blank
Local IP address is .199 with a subnet of 255.255.255.128
I have DHCP enabled starting at .200 with 30 users
My computer is also set up statically at port .233.
The Netgear WGR614 v6 is set up with the following settings:
    Get IP/DNS dynamically from ISP
DHCP Range from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.51. Router is on a subnet of 255.255.255.0 the linksys is set up statically to the Netgear
SO, this brings me to my issue, I am trying to get ichat file transfer/video to work, I have followed the instructions for setting up portforwarding from portforward.com for ichat on both the netgear and the linksys. On the linksys, i set the IP address to forward to as my computers (.233)
On the netgear, i set the ip address to forward to as 192.168.1.136 (the static IP of the linksys).
Anyway, I am hoping someone can point out what I am doing wrong as I am still getting this error: An AIM error has occurred. Unable to talk directly to your buddy. I am also getting this error: An AIM service error occurred. The server message was: Serv:RequestTimeout.
My OS X firewall is off.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP IN ADVANCE!!

    Hi,
I am not sure I have understood your Networking here.
You say the Netgear is getting an IP (Via DHCP) from the ISP.
You go onto say it is at 192.168.1.1
It issues IP addresses from 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.51 and the Linksys has an IP outside this range at 192.168.1.136
    Your computer is at 192.168.1.233
As both devices are using the 192.168.1.xxx group and doing DHCP (even with restricted groups) how does the computer know which one to connect to ?
You should be able to change the group that each device is using for it's own network (I would suggest the Netgear)
You should also turn Off DHCP (to the LAN) in the Netgear so it's own network (subnet) only goes as far as the Linksys.
Similarly in the Linksys make sure DHCP is Off or change the Mac to use Manually (Static) with DHCP.
Both devices can do UPnP found in the Administration tab in the Linksys and the WAN page of the Netgear.
Turn Off/disable all Port Forwarding in both devices.
It may also pay to copy across the Linksys and Computer the DNS server IPs from the Netgear.

  • TS4108 how do I transfer photos in photo stream to a different file in iPhoto to clear up space in iCloud?

Hw do I transfer photos from photo stream to a different file in iphoto so I can clear up space in icloud?

Photo stream photos don't use your personal iCloud account storage so deleting or moving them will not free up any space in your account.
That said, if you still want to move them from photo stream in iPhoto, import them to your library by control-clicking on the photo and choosing Import.  You can set iPhoto to automatically import photo stream photos to your library by going to iPhoto>Preferneces>iCloud and checking Automatic Import:

  • File transfer issues in Skype 6.22?

Recently updated to 6.22 and lost the ability to decline incoming files. In previous versions you had to options - accept or decline, now the only options seem to be "accept" or ignore and then the file request just sits in the chat window as incomplete. Is this a setting that can be changed or do I need to stay annoyed by it forever?
Moreover: After accepting a file transfer, you used to be able to click the "view in folder" link and open the file location. This also seem to be removed. Comments on this?

...also you can just start by opening the conversation with the first member of your future group you want to create and then simply use the "Add contacts" button on top right to add the other members. This way a new group conversation will be created as well.
We are right now working to update this FAQ to reflect that information: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1005/how-do-i-start-a-group-instant-message-in-skype-for-windows-...

  • Cellphone BlueTooth photo file transfer: Does it function with Tiger OS?

I have a Nokia cell phone 6256i with BlueTooth that CAN transfer photo files from cell to computer.
I have Tiger OS in the box, still uninstalled. I am using OS 10.3.9 right now and have not installed Tiger because some months ago, people reported that after installing Tiger and therefore because of Tiger, the BlueTooth photo file transfer function to their computer was lost. (This is not an issue of the OBEX function in BlueTooth being incapacitated by the manufacturer but an issue of a functioning OBEX ceasing to function after the installation of Tiger.)
I have a Nokia cell 6256i with VzW and am able to transfer photo files from camera to my iMac and I do not want to jeopardize that ability.
So the question is: If you have a BlueTooth cellphone (and especially if you have a Nokia 6256i), and if you are running Tiger, are you able to transfer photo files via BlueTooth to your computer?
If so, what version of Tiger are you using? It could be that the earlier versions did not support BlueTooth file transfer but that later versions corrected that problem.
Until I am sure I will keep Tiger in the black box it came in, so I am hoping to hear some good news. Thank you in advance.

Isn't transferring a photo the same as transferring
any other type of file, such as an MP3 ringtone, or a
    MIDI file?
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
I wasn't sure so I specified PHOTO files.
I've had both a Sony Ericsson K750 and Sony Ericsson
K800 during the time that Tiger has been out, and
never had any issues sending photos from the phone to
    the Mac via Bluetooth.
    .......... Lorna HAS A QUESTION................................................
This is reassuring. But: WHAT VERSION OF TIGER ARE YOU USING? Meaning, I might have to upgrade to the new version.
If you're worried, why not try your phone on a
friends computer running Tiger, or install Tiger on a
    separate partition to try out?
    Jools
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
That is a great idea....... and sadly, most of my friends who live near enough me do not have BlueTooth installed on their computers.

File transfer in group chates is not currently supported in Jabber for Windows. It is a backlog item but has not been comitted to a specific release at this time.

  • Skyp file transfer on LAN slow for windows and Mac...

    Hi,
We are extensively use skype and since we upgrade skype to 6.18 and above ... file transfer on LAN is super slow... to transfer file 200MB it took over 15 minutes but when i'm skype 6.16 it took about 45 seconds... can anyone lemme know to fix it or tweak it on both Mac and windows so i can speed up file transfer on LAN....

I've been experiencing the same issue. I keep having to downgrade to 6.16 and cancel automatic updates for this same reason. It's really frustrating as my work involves sendig and receiving files via Skype. Versions 6.18 and up not only are too slow (a large file, for example, that would normally take 18 hours or less to transfer takes 1 week! on 6.18 and higher) but also slow down my whole connection while surfing. 6.16 allows me to transfer at a fast speed and I can watch videos and have a 256k livestream radio going, be on a skype call and still have enough speed to download from the Internet without slowing anything down. This is completely unacceptable. I see that no one has replied to this and nothing has been done to fix this issue. I wonder if Skype even browses through these.
