Photos inside a photo or shape

I have to tell you that I am a beginner and got Phot Element as a present
I have cut out the map shape of Australia and scanned it. I like to fill it with little Family photos just like you do in a "CD Cover" where the photo will not go outside the perimeter. Is this possible to do?
If you can help please be easy on the explanation as I have no clue where to start but very willing to learn

Okay,
To follow how I'm explaining this, set up your workspace so you can two documents open at the same time...the cascade workspace. I think that it is Windows<Workspace<Cascade Tiles. (I can't double check as the version of Elements I have is in my daughter's room and she's sleeping.)
1. Open your scan of Australia.
2. If you haven't already, separate Australia from the background. (Double click lock to unlock background; click the white with the magic eraser would be a fast way to get rid of it the white.)
Tip: Assuming you don't want any lakes that might be in your scan knocked out, before you use the magic eraser make sure there's a check mark beside the word contiguous in the options bar when the magic eraser selected.
3. Open your photo.
4. In your photo image file...Select<All; Edit<Copy. (Shortcuts on PC = Ctrl A; Ctrl C).
5. Create a blank layer in your Australia scan over Australia's shape.
6.In your Australia image with the blank layer highlighted in your layers palette....Edit<Paste. (Shortcut on PC = Ctrl V)
You should now have in your layers palette Australia's shape with your photo above it. Australia will be covered by your photo.
7. With your photo layer highlighted, press the alt key. While pressing the alt key hover your cursor on the line in the layers palette between your photo and the shape of Australia that you cut out. You'll notice the cursor becomes a couple of overlapping circles. When the cursor is displaying the overlapping circles click the line with your left mouse key. This will clip the photo to the shape.
If you prefer using the menu I think it's under Layer<Create Clipping Mask. If you by the menu route, make sure your photo layer is highlighted in the layers palette. This will clip your photo to Australia  which should be the layer below the photo layer. (Shortcut on PC = Ctrl  G...if that doesn't work try Ctrl alt G. The shortcut was changed in CS3 so I'm not sure which shortcut E7 is using.)
You should now see your photo shaped like Australia.
Keep in mind if you flatten or save as a jpg you won't retain the transparency. To keep the transparency, save it in a format that supports transparency.
FWIW, This isn't the only method to do this...just one that's pretty straight forward.
As you get comfortable with Elements, you'll find there are usually at least three ways to do everything...maybe even three ways or more ways to do each of the steps I gave you.

Also, in Sharon's method - "simply press delete" on a regular jpg picture will bring up the Fill Dialog in CS6, with Content Aware being default. Not what you you want here.
If the OP wants to use a selection as a "custom shape", then creating a mask by clicking on the Add a Mask icon at the bottom of Layer panel (third in from left) is preferable to inverting the selection and deleting pixels.

    Yes, it is.
The easiest way for me is access the custom shape tool,  and within that the Symbols library. You will find the copy right sign. Just drag it out. It will be on its own layer. Enter the rest of the info with the Type tool.
The symbol can also be found in the character map on a Windows system.
If you have multiple photos that you wish to mark, it is very efficient to make a copyright brush and apply  with a  click of the mouse.

  • VSCO cam unable to provide action extension right inside of photos app on my iPhone 4s

Recently, I decided to check out VSCO cam on my iPhone 4s. The app worked fine on my device but I was little bit shocked when I was editing a photo and I noticed there was no extensions button at the top left corner of the screen.
and I remember Apple's Craig Federighi demonstrated the waterlog action extensions (VSCO cam was also there) right inside of photos app at WWDC.
So, I wanna know what kind of problem is this and is this happening with just my device?
and is there any way or how to get the action extension of VSCO cam right inside of photos app like it was demonstrated at WWDC
    iPhone 4s 16GB Model
    4GB free space available

Unfortunatley 5 GB is not necessarily a lot of space.  What you should do is FIRST go into iCloud and choose what information you want turned on.
    Settings >iCloud
Here you should see different Tabs that will let you select what you want to back up on your device.  You have the option to back up the following data on your phone:
    Mail
    Contacts
    Calendars
    Reminders
    Safari
    Notes
    Passbook
    Photo Stream
    Documents & Data
    Find My iPhone
If you turn off some of these options you should free up some of your space.
Once you have backed up your device in iCloud, you can place your device in Recovery Mode in iTunes so it can be recognized.
To put phone in recovery mode:  Hold down home button and power button at top of phone at the same time.  Once you see the Apple on the device, CONTINUE to hold down the Home button.  Plug your phone into iTunes.  Do not let the Home button go until you see a message in iTunes stating that a device has been detected in recovery mode.

  • How do you place a photo inside text

    Hi,
I am trying to place a collage of photos inside outlined text.  I can't seem to figure it out in CS5.  I was also trying to do it with text that was outline, but it was warped.  Any suggestions?

    s,
    Amended version:
    You may use Live Type.
If the  photos are within the boundaries of the lilac rectangle, you may (with  the rectangle in front of the photos):
    1) Select the Live Type and the  lilac rectangle;
    2) In the Transparency palette/panel flyout  select Make Opacity Mask (Clip and Invert Mask unticked).
If not, you  may (with the rectangle in front of behind the photos):
    1) Select  the Live Type and the photos;
    2) Object>Clipping Mask>Make.
And I forgot about the white stroke for the letters, as rightly pointed out by Wade:
With a copy of the Live Type on top of everything:
    3) In the Toolbox set Fill to None;
    4) In the Appearance palette/panel flyout Add New Stroke, set Stroke Weight and colour as desired.

my I phone 4 is stolen in Vienna of Austria, unfortunately I have some very important photo inside the phone, would it be possible to use the IMEI no. to  check where is the phone now? or you can lock it / delete those information in the phone?
    rachel

"would it be possible to use the IMEI no. to  check where is the phone now?"
    No.
"you can lock it / delete those information in the phone?"
    No.
Apple can do nothing at all.
If you set up find my iphone and it is on and it has not been restored, then you may be able to track it or wipe it.
Otherwise there is nothing you can do but report it to the police and change your passwords.

  • After changing contact photo on iPhone, photo no longer shows up in outlook

I had my contact photos all setup on my iphone, and syncing correctly with iTunes and showing up correctly in Outlook 2007. The photos are stored on the iPhone, and set either by selecting the photo and doing "Assign to Contact", or in Contacts, Edit, Edit (the picture) and "Choose Photo". They would show up as a thumbnail in the Outlook 2007 Business Card view, and also in the detail when you double-click a contact. This part of the process hasn't changed.
What has changed is iOS4. Now, when I go in and change a contact's photo on the iPhone, it no longer shows up correctly in Outlook 2007. It shows a blank space when showing the Business card view, but shows the photo correctly in the detail if I double-click a contact. Even if I change it back to the photo that it was, it still won't show correctly in Outlook 2007 Business Card view.
Contacts whose photos I haven't changed since iOS4 show correctly in both places in Outlook 2007.
Anyone else seeing this or have a fix?

    Hi!
I'm having the same troubles and after searching for a while i found
    the following solution:
    In short (from http://gyoo.com/blog/?p=48)
    First, some figures:
    iPhone camera resolution: 1600×1200 (72dpi)
    iPhone screen resolution: 320×480 (160dpi)
iPhone contact picture display size: 64×64 (160dpi)
iPhone contact picture display size on call: 320×270 (160dpi)
    Outlook import resolution: 72×96 (72dpi)
    - On your PC, resize the image contact to 320×320 (160dpi),
knowing that 25 pixels on the top and bottom will be semi-transparent when on call.
    - On your PC, create a folder iPhone Photos\Contacts and move your contact photos inside Sync the photos into your iPhone with iTunes through the Photos tab.
    - Select the iPhone Photos folder as source.
    - Manually associated the photo to your contact on the iPhone
    (Edit ->Add Photo->Choose Existing Photo)
    - Sync back the iPhone with iTunes.
The photos will be associated automatically into Outlook with the good resolution this time.
    Regards
    Harry

  • Creating a new photo album in PHOTOS

how do i create another photo album in photos? the one that i have right now say PHOTO LIBRARY. that is the one in sync with i-tunes. how do i make another album to organize my photos because hundreds of my photos are all in one folder.

    You're welcome.
I have a Mac and use Apple's iPhoto application to import, store, organize and view all digital photos with a layout and organizational structure similar to that used by iTunes. I create and make use of albums with iPhoto to sort photos by category and have access to all photos in each album or not associated with an album by selecting the main iPhoto library. The similar with iTunes is the entire music library and the ability to create and utilize music playlists. All iPhoto albums are made availble to select individually under the photos tab for my iPhone sync preferences or I can transfer all photos imported into iPhoto over the last 12 months or the most recent import only or my entire library of photos.
Long story short, a Mac with iPhoto makes this process extremely easy but to answer your question, you need to create the additional folders or albums inside of this existing folder which contains all photos being transferred to your iPhone.

  • 'Photos Library Recovered Photos' folder in Pictures

After a successful iPhoto to Photos migration, I have noticed a folder in 'HD > Users > xxxx > Pictures'  - titled 'Photos Library Recovered Photos'.
    The folder contains 112 images.
When I open the Photos.app all my photos from my previous iPhoto Library seem to be there and everything is functioning correctly.
So why has this folder appeared and where have these images come from?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.
    Regards
    TD

  • Hi I currently have about 20,000 photos in I photo, which the 'info' displays as being 68GB's worth. However the I Photo Library with the Pictures Folder displays it's size as 341.21GB ... Why would that be? How do I look at what's in the I Photo Library?

Hi I currently have about 20,000 photos in I photo, which 'info' displays as being 68GB's worth. However the I Photo Library within the Pictures Folder displays it's size as 341.21GB ... Why would that be? How do I look at what's in the I Photo Library to figure out what's happening, and if there's stuff in there I need to delete?

Best to keep the terms clear.
    You export photos from iPhoto.
You move the iPhoto Library to an external disk.
They're are quite different processes. Exporting means at the end you have a file outside iPhoto. Moving means the files are still inside iPhoto.
    So if you say:
I'm currently exporting the  library to an external drive
That reads like I''ve selected all the photos in iPhoto and am exporting them to a folder on this external drive, and at the end I'll have a folder full of photos outside iPhoto. Is that what you mean?
Is it best to have a 'master' I photo library on an external drive for all the thousands of pics Im never really going to look at often - and a smaller one kept on the HD for day to day usage ...
Best? Hard to know. It might make sense on a portable. But if you're on an iMac why do you need a smaller one on the internal? Why not just have the whole library on the external? There is no performace hit.

  • HT201317 iPhone 5 and Photo Stream - some photos don't sync

I used my iPhone 5 as my camera on my recent trip to Wales. Most of the photos synced with Photo Stream - for example walking to the castle and leaving the castle are synced and now on Photo Stream, but inside the castle will not sync. Tried turning iPhone off and on, it is charged 100%, good WiFi connection. Same thing happened every day - some photos (the ones I want to have on the iPad) seem to be stuck on the iPhone camera roll. I also turned My Photo Stream off and on again, and when it rebuilt itself, the same photos did not appear in Photo Stream. I'm at a loss as to what to do.

Try taking a new photo on your phone and see if it appears in photo stream on your iPad.  If it does, photo stream is working on your phone.  If you still have some photos in your camera roll that will not upload to your photo stream you may have to create a shared photo stream containing the missing photos and invite yourself to it. This should appear on your iPad.  This article explains how to create a shared photo stream: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99.

  • Problem with photos in new Photos application

The new photos shows one photo in thumbnail but a different photo when I click or enlarge the thumbnail.  Don't want to lose either!Problem

    There is a solution!!
After installing iOS4.0.1 update on my 3G, I too had the black
blob in my camera roll. As posted in an earlier thread, here's
one way to resolve this problem. It worked for me!
Just email the photos that don't appear in the camera roll to myself,
delete the offending photos and then re-save them from the email.
A bit of a pain but it's a way around it. Good luck!

  • I copied the photos from my photo stream folder to a new folder on my macbook pro. I then deleted the phots in my photo stream folder. It erased them from the other folder as well. Why? Where did they go? Can I get them back? Please help. Thanks.

Hello, I wanted to clear out my photo stream folder on my macbook pro, so I copied all the photos to a permanent folder. I then deleted all the photos in my photo stream folder. The photos in my backup folder were automatically deleted and I want them retrieved. They are not in my trash and I can't find them. Are photos autmatically backed up in my phots? How can I retrieve the deleted photos? Please help. Thanks.

You can't currently delete individual photos but you can reset
Step 1: Login to your iCloud account on iCloud.com from a Mac or PC.
Step 2: Click on your name at the top right of the main iCloud page.
Step 3: Click on the Advanced option.
Step 4: Click “Reset Photo Stream.” You will then need to confirm.
Step 5: This Photo Stream reset will not go into effect until you toggle Photo Stream on and off on your devices. In iOS, Photo Stream can be turned off and on in the iCloud settings window of the Settings app.

  • Can not add photos to my photo stream.

This morning I started my computer and got the following error.
I get the error on my PC
My Photo Stream can't be updated
iCloud Photos can't update because you don't have permission to add files to download folder.  Open iCloud to pick another folder.
    then I get the error:
The upload folder for iCloud Photos is missing
The upload folder for iCloud Photos had been moved or deleted.  Open iCloud to pick a new folder.
As far as I know, nothing has changed on my computer.  I can not add anything to the iCloud Photos folder.

    harryhal wrote:

Best I can tell it's either because that wouldn't work on the iPad, or they haven't enabled it.
Select a Photo (or Photos) in the Photo Stream and click the + button on the toolbar. You can then choose which Albums to Add it to.
