Copy the files to the desktop from the card. How long does that take? Import them from the Desktop, how long dos that take?

My I Photo is taking forever to load my pictures. When they finally load, everything I do  in I photo is super slow. Help!

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • WIFI loading speed is super slow, please help.

    Hi there.
I just got my first apple laptop and it seems that i have problem i can't solve. I have pretty good broadband but my macs downloading speed is super slow, i called support, the guy on the other side told me something i could do, but most of it didn't work. Apparently my friends laptop has downloading speed over 400 Kb/s while mine is just 10Kb/s, well it seems unfair, since we pay equally for internet and he uses most of it.
Could anyone suggest what is wrong, because i have pretty good feeling that there is some mystery.
    Thanks in advance.

I too have serious issues concerning the speed of networkconnnections when connecting via airport on my MBA.
I cannot specify the exact moment when it started but i think it was directly or short after the last firmware update when surfing or in fact anything that needs a networkconnection started to become reeaaally slow.
what happens is that it takes up to 45 seconds for a website to start loading or mails to load. even widgets like weather need forever to get a connection.
the funny thing is that once the initial connection is established (like a youtube video starting to load) the speed is ok again but sometimes it takes so long to start with loading that i get timeouts on pages that never had a problem before.
at first i figured that it was a problem with my internet provider (which it is not since the imac and ibook my husband uses over the same airport extreme basstation are superfast) then i thought it had something to do with the browser or java and started to re-install all of them
but 10 days ago i had to buy the ethernet usb adapter since i was working somewhere that had no WLAN and with the ethernet network connection the speed is there. its only when i need to connect to a wifi network (and i tried various ones, airport and other WiFi networks) that i have this veeeery annoying speed dump..
    any suggestions?

Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation.  TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible;  Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided.  Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.  Other utilities are also available such as Onyx, Leopard Cache Cleaner, CockTail, and Xupport, for example.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Backuplist
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    iBackup
    JaBack
    Silver Keeper
    MimMac
    Retrospect
    Super Flexible File Synchronizer
    SuperDuper!
    Synchronize Pro! X
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.

  • My MacBook Pro is running SUPER slow. Any troubleshooting I could do at home before having to take it into an Apple dealer for a tune up?

My MacBook Pro is running SUPER slow.  When I start up my computer  it takes forever to load up, when I play World of Warcraft it is  painfully slow with logging in etc.  Everything about starting a program  takes forever to load up and then once you are in the program  everything is super slow. My husband's macbook pro is a 17 inch 2009 and  works WAY better and faster then mine.  Also, i don't know if this is a related problem, but the power drains VERY quickly.  For example, If I have  a MS OFFICE program on I could be at 100% hooked up to my power and then if I go off of my battery, the battery life will only last about 30 to 45 minutes MAX.
Here are the deets on my MacBook:
    17-inch, Late 2011
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.3
    Suggestions?  Thanks!

    Have a look here...
    macworld.com/mac-troubleshooting-what-to-do-when-your -computer-is-too-slow.
    Basically...
    1)  Make sure you have enough Free Hard Drive space for your Mac to Perform as expected...
Rule of thumb is about 15 to 20 GB
    2)  And adding more RAM is always a prudent move... (4GB of RAM is a minimum for Mavericks... 8GB at least would be better.)
You can use these Links to check which RAM is suitable for your Mac...
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/
    Go to http://www.crucial.com
It is Important to get the Correct and Matching RAM
Those sites also have videos on how to Install RAM should you need it...

  • My macbook is slow to load any software since loading lion

Since i have loaded os Lion my macbook runs slow and programmes take a time to load how can i improve its performance.  i generally use my macbook for itunes and photos.

My suggestion is to reinstall Lion:
    Reinstalling Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • MacBook 2010 web browsing super slow!!?? Wireless Internet.

I purchased my MacBook in May, and at first everything worked fine, but lately the web browsing has been super slow with the page taking forever to load or just not loading whatsoever. The connection signal is strong and the internet is working fine as my computer downloads files at a good speed. I have an old PC laptop that the web browsing works fine on from the same connection so the problem must lie with my macbook. any ideas?

HI and welcome to Apple Discussions,
You didn't mention which browser you are using so I assuming it's Safari...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Web pages include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. *These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down.* It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
Check for duplicate or corrupted fonts, instructions here. http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10389716-263.html?tag=mncol;title
Open System Preferences/Accounts then select the Login Items tab. Delete any files or apps there. And go to /Library/Startup Items. Remove any files or apps there.
Quit Safari if it's open for this.
Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file. Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Now launch Safari. If Safari speeds up loading web pages, them move the .plist file to the Trash.

  • Ever since I updated to Maverick my MacBook is slow to load apps

Since I updated to Maverick my MacBook is slow to boot up after being shut down and is slow to load apps (excessive bounce, etc.). Is there a solution?

Your model is right at the cutoff of models that can handle Mavericks, so you need to keep that in mind: an older machine and less powerful processor. Aside from that, you should really have a minimum of 4 GB of RAM for Mavericks to run reasonably well - how much RAM do you have? The 2 GB minimum published does not work that well unless you only use one app at a time.
So, if you've maxed out the RAM, make sure you don't run too many apps at the same time, especially if dealing with photo editing or movie apps and quit one before starting another. Also make sure you have plenty of empty hard drive space at all times.

  • Why are MacBooks so slow using Wifi?

The irony is I've had to jump on my Windows PC to troubleshoot.  Not a single issue with any device in the house connecting to the Wifi and using internet.  Just the MacBook Air.  Why hasn't Apple addressed this?  I can see by the numerous posts and questions this is a very common issue that has been going on for years and the concerning thing is how many similar posts to mine don't seem to get resolved.
Feel duped by Apple and all the hype about their PCs versus Windows based PCs.  Paid double for my laptop and yes it looks pretty and is nice and small, but if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.  Isn't the point you don't have to be a computer geek to make these things run.
Too bad the laptops aren't as handy as the phones and IPads.
    Dissapointed,

If MacBooks are inherently slow when using Wi-Fi then there is something wrong with all of mine, because they run like blazes.

Your Mac obviously performed well when you bought it, or you would have either immediately returned it for a 100% refund or called AppleCare, who would have fixed it. If AppleCare is no longer an option for you then you have to provide specific details, ask others to help you, and then patiently wait for competent assistance. The only questions that remain unresolved are the ones that lack those requirements. There is an abundance of useful information on this site that will help, if you want to fix your problem and not just rant about it.
Specific guidance requires specific details - until you can provide them read the following:
OS X Mountain Lion: If your Mac runs slowly The article is very cursory, but be sure to read through to the end. Unfortunately the "Repair a disk" link at the end points to nothing useful, so use this one: Disk Utility.
General purpose Mac troubleshooting guide: Isolating issues in Mac OS X
Creating a temporary account to isolate user-specific problems: Isolating an issue by using another user account
Memory limitations: Using Activity Monitor to read System Memory and determine how much RAM is being used
Identifying resource hogs and other tips: Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity
To identify potential hardware problems: Apple Hardware Test
To resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance, use Disk Utility.
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
To repair a potentially corrupt hard disk, so that you may recover its data prior to replacing it, and subsequently reinstall Mac OS X: OS X Recovery (applies only to Lion and later versions of OS X)

  • Macbook Pro suddenly SUPER slow

    Hey guys,
so far I have had no issues with my almost 8 month old Macbook Pro up until today.. I would actually like to take it to an apple store but the problem is that the closest apple store is 100 miles away from me and I do not have the time to take it and leave it there for probably a couple of days or hours if im lucky because I have to study for my upcoming finals.
For some strange reason my macbook is running everything super slow.. if I open apps, it takes ages until it loads and the pinwheel keeps turning and turning.. I have done a full virus scan which took 8h just to be on the safe side I have opened up activity monitor to look which applications are taking up the most RAM.. It turns out that kernel_task is taking up  to 1GB of my RAM! Even if nothing else is open or running in the background besides Activity Monitor.
On another discussion board, I have read that it might be helpful to do a SMC reset which I have also tried but unfortunately hasn't resolved the problem.
If this discussion has been started AND solved somewhere else, I am sorry for opening up a new one because I couldn't find one that addressed and solved my issue completely.
If you need any more information from Terminal or w/e, please let me know because I need my laptop now more than ever since I'm studying for finals.
    Thanks yall in advance!!

  • 501 0D error, and My macbook pro sudennly super slow.

    Hello!
I´ve got the Macbook pro 13, mid 2012. Suddenly it became super slow. Out of nowhere I swear.
    I tried resetting SMC, Pram.
I tried to AHT - and got the 501 0D error.
I tried to reinstall OS X Mavericks - It took me almost 16 hours.
I checked disk utility and repair it, repair permission.
And it is still super slow. Boot up time is long. System is very slow. And I see a lot of beach ball.
What do you think it could be?

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. This procedure is a diagnostictest. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem. The backup is necessary in case your startup drive is failing.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as some other aspects of the configuration that may be related to the problem. Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out.
If possible, these steps should be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing. If you can only boot in safe mode, you can still use this procedure, but not all of it will work. Be sure to mention that in your reply, if you haven't already done so.
Below are instructions to enter UNIX shell commands. The commands are safe and do nothing but produce human-readable output, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you question the safety of the procedure suggested here — which you should — search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. I am not asking you to trust me. If you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them.
The commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. Step 1 should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    PB=/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy; PR () { [[ "$o" ]] && printf '\n%s:\n%s\n' "$1" "$o"; }; PF () { o=$($PB -c Print "$2" | awk -F'= ' \/$3'/{print $2}'); PR "$1"; }; { o=$(kextstat -kl | grep -v com\\.apple | cut -c53- | cut -d\< -f1); PR "Loaded extrinsic kernel extensions"; o=$(launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)|\.[0-9]+$/{print $3}'); PR "Loaded extrinsic user agents"; o=$(launchctl getenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES); PR "Inserted libraries"; o=$(crontab -l); PR "User cron tasks"; o=$(cat /e*/lau*); PR "Global launchd configuration"; o=$(cat ~/.lau*); PR "Per-user launchd configuration"; PF "Global login items" /L*/P*/loginw* Path; PF "Per-user login items" L*/P*/*loginit* Name; PF "Safari extensions" L*/Saf*/*/E*.plist Bundle | sed 's/\..*$//;s/-[1-9]$//'; o=$(find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) | wc -l); [[ $o -eq 0 ]] || printf "\nRestricted user files: %s\n" $o; cd; o=$(find -L /S*/L*/E* {,/}L*/{A*d,Compon,Ex,In,Keyb,Mail/Bu,P*P,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo}* -type d -name Contents -prune | while read d; do ID=$($PB -c 'Print :CFBundleIdentifier' "$d/Info.plist"); ID=${ID:-No bundle ID}; egrep -qv "^com\.apple\.[^x]|Accusys|ArcMSR|ATTO|HDPro|HighPoint|driver\.stex|hp-fax|JMicron|microsoft\.MDI|print|SoftRAID" <<< $ID && printf '%s  (%s)\n' "${d%/Contents}" "$ID"; done); PR "Extrinsic loadable bundles"; o=$(find /u*/{,*/}lib -type f -exec sh -c 'file -b "$1" | grep -qw shared && ! codesign -v "$1"' {} {} \; -print); PR "Unsigned shared libraries"; for d in {,/}L*/{La,Priv,Sta}* L*/Fonts; do o=$(ls -A "$d"); PR "$d"; done; } 2> /dev/null | pbcopy; echo $'\nStep 1 done'
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "Step 1 done" to appear below what you entered. The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
Remember that you must be logged in as an administrator for this step. Do as in Step 1 with this line:
    PR () { [[ "$o" ]] && printf '\n%s:\n%s\n' "$1" "$o"; }; { o=$(sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|calendarse|cups|dove|isc|ntp|post[fg]|x)/{print $3}'); PR "Loaded extrinsic daemons"; o=$(sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook); PR "Login hook"; o=$(sudo crontab -l); PR "Root cron tasks"; o=$(syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}'); PR "Log check"; } 2> /dev/null | pbcopy; echo $'\nStep 2 done'
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    You can then quit Terminal.
To prevent confusion, I'll repeat: When you type your password in the Terminal window, you won't see what you're typing.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, set one before taking Step 2. If that’s not possible, skip the step.
Important: If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output of these commands, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
Remember, Steps 1 and 2 are all copy-and-paste — type only your password. Also remember to post the output.

  • I have downloaded and installed Photoshop Elements 11 on my new Macbook Pro.  Why can't I see my scanner (Epson Perfection 3200 Photo) from the File Import menu?

I have downloaded and installed Photoshop Elements 11 on my new Macbook Pro.  Why can't I see my scanner (Epson Perfection 3200 Photo) from the File>Import menu?

There was no driver update available (it said my driver was up to date), so I just deleted the scanner and restarted the computer.  when it came up, the scanner had already been added again.  With great anticipation I tried to import from Photoshop...but no luck (scanner was not visible).  I finally ended up calling Epson (had great difficulty in locating a number for support) and they finally told me there is no driver update for OS X 10.10 and I should as a work around use "Image Capture" application.  I tried it, and it works quite well.
