Photos makes MBP run really hot since update 10.10.3 (14D131)
Hi
I updated to 10.10.3 (14D131) and each time I access the new Photos app my MBP now gets really hot, the fan runs constantly until the program is closed.
Any clues how to stop this or is it a wait for the next update to solve this?
Thanks
Thanks for the attention mate.
It's clearly related to the update. And checking the support article +*About the Mac OS X 10.5.6 Update*+ http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3194 , it says there:
AirPort
+Improves the reliability of AirPort connections, including improvements when roaming in large wireless networks with an Intel-based Mac.+
_Time Machine_
+Fixes issues that could cause Time Machine to state the backup volume could not be found.+
+Improves Time Machine reliability with Time Capsule.+
So the two things I have were supposedly fixed by Apple. I'm still waiting for a solution before I go back to my backed up state.

MacBook running really hot since 10.5.2 update?
Any one have any ideas as to why my MacBook is running so much hotter since I updated to 10.5.2? I know the MacBook has a rather warm operating temperature under normal circumstances, but I have definitely noticed an increase. Up until a week ago, I hardly used to hear the fan going or feel it being so hot, but now fan blazing all the time and my battery life is taking a pounding... I have a Core 2 Duo 2.16ghz superdrive, white, 2GB RAM, and as mentioned 10.5.2. Any suggestions are appreciated.

After getting my new iPad set up the way I want it I noticed that it runs really hot; never experienced anything like this with iPad 2. Has anyone else had this problem? Its hot enough that I am concerned.
Robin-
I would be concerned. Some types of batteries have been recalled in the past because they start fires!
The most obvious problem is that a hot iPad suggests the battery will run down quickly. Do you have enough experience to determine how long a full charge will last? I would expect it to be similar to the iPads 1 & 2, which is about ten yours. Someone mentioned that their iPad charge went down ten percent per hour.
I suggest you show your iPad to an Apple Store Genius. If the Genius agrees, you may get a replacement iPad.
If there is no Apple Store near you, look for an Apple Authorized Repair Center. There may be one in your city. <Apple Authorized Repair Centers>

i cannot sync photos to iphone 5 or iPad , since updating to new iPhoto and
Aperture Sync option no longer availableSorry for lack of info
i usually sync photos from Aperture on MacBook Pro to iPhone 5 and iPad
using iTunes (all latest updates) . Sync worked perfectly
but
since last update of OS X and migration from aperture to new "PHOTOS"
icloud turned off, sync won't put any photos onto devices
I have restored both devices , leaving sync photos option off(to delete any previous photos)
then try to sync photos and nothing happens
i I can sync folders but that isn't how I want it??
hope this is a little clearer -

Since updating my ipad3 it's running warm to hot to the touch it never did this before. I used to be able to close programs running but with the update I can't see how to do it.
I don't have a problem with heat. However, to close programs, you double click the home button just like before. The difference is that instead of just showing you the app icon at the bottom of the screen, you'll now get the app icon and a screen shot of the app as well. Grab the screen shot and slide it toward the top of the iPad and you'll see it fly off the screen. Once it flys off the screen, you just closed that program...You can continue to do this for all of the apps that you have open.

Macbook Pro running extremely slow since updating to Yosemite
Hello All,
I am new to the community and I'm hoping your pooled expertise can assist me with my issues. I went ahead and posted the results of my diagnostic scan below. My main concerns are that my Macbook Pro is now extremely slow after OSX updates. Also, laptop is running extremely hot to touch. I have mentioned other ongoing issues. I offer thanks in advance for any assistance.
Problem description:
Macbook Pro 13":
Purchased in mid-2010.
Most Recent Issue (Main Concern):
(1) I recently updated OS X from Mountain Lion to Maverick. Computer began running extremely slow and “jerky.”
(1.1) Shortly after this I updated to OS X Yosemite. Computer runs, and types, even slower than before.
Ongoing Issues (Greater than one year):
(1) Extremely short battery life (may last two hours on full charge)
(2) Macbook runs extremely hot to touch (fan runs continuously but can’t begin to keep it cool)
(3) SD Card reader doesn't recognize/open an SD card when inserted.
Lex Cschellings Requested the Following:
No obvious elements in the list.
This may well be a dying disk and/or a very bad battery.
Do following:
make a new etrecheck list and in the problem description put what Applications->Utilities->SystemInformation says about the battery (under the Power heading in the left panel): give cycle count and battery condition.
Then post the link in a new thread.
In the meantime the crash report is probably a French Dictionary issue (font? garcon garçon) you have installed, uninstall that and see if it happens again.

I have had my MBP for about a week now and have noticed it runs very hot. I am using istats to check the CPU temps and they are exceeding 180F! Normally it will sit from 150 to 170F, and is always very very warm to the touch, when it hits 180+ its burning hot and only then do the cooling fans make a noticeable noise. Has anyone experienced the hot MBP for the 08 models yet?
Actually I had the exact opposite experience.
The new MacBook pro I got is cooler then any other mac I have (old pro, new air).
I can actually put it on my lap with shorts on without any problem. I would bring it back to the store and see what's up with it. Something doesn't seem to be right with it.
BTW - have you added any non-apple firmware changes like Coolbook? -
Hi,
Since Apple changed my Motherboard and Hdd inside my iMAC running Windows 7 bootcamp, I find the case or the iMAC runs very hot compared to before...Post actual temps and then we can tell, please use iStatPro which can be found at www.macupdate.com.
-
How to make iMac run less hot when in Bootcamp?
When I play a game in win7 trough bootcamp, my iMac gets real hot.
How to make it run cooler?
It sounds like fans could be running faster; but I want it to do it automaticly.Download Lubbo Fancontrol for MacBook Pro to help with the fans.

Airport Extreme n runs really hot
My new extreme n runs much hotter than my old extreme base station. With the new flat shape, it promotes putting things on top, but that might be dangerous with how hot this gets.
Much warmer than my MacBook Pro.
Anybody else notice this?
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)Ditto Smokerz.
Moreover, the AEBS(n) is definitely not intended to have anything sitting on top. Not only would it affect heat dissipation, but might also likely impede signal transmission.
And, I would add that, "...really hot" is somewhat of an overstatement... It's just more so than its predecessor.
FWIW... -
Mbp running too hot too often.
hi there,
my mbp 2.5 has been fine for the first 4 months or so, but lately its been running fairly hot (between 60 - 70C) when all i have running is itunes and firefox. The fans spin up to 3000 rpm, and are pretty loud compared to how it used to be.
i have fan control installed, not sure if that effects anything.
any help would be much appreciated.Hi tt: I would say that is your problem process. Any process using 99.3% of the CPU for extended periods will cause issues. It looks like you are using iAnti Virus, Yes? What happens if you highlight the process, then click "Quit Process"? I see there are some issues mentioned about this program in other forums. I don't use the program so I can't speak to how well it works.

Macbook Pro 13' (Late 2011) STILL really slow since updating to Mavericks
So I've seen a lot of discussions about the same issue and some have threads have been solved, yet others remain unknown. I have the same problem as others that stated they have experience something similar to my case. Just fyi though, that my computer was already really slow prior to upgrading to Mavericks (on Mountain Lion). That was when I decided to do a clean install of Mountain Lion and everything was snappier than ever. It wasn't long until Mavericks came out and I instantly did an upgrade but everything suddenly started slowing down again and it's getting worse. I hope someone can help me out here, thank you.

Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

MBP running very slow since Mavericks upgrade - etrecheck included
I've read through a number of answers, but still having the same problem. Since upgrading to Mavericks in October, my MBP has been slow. Ot goes through periods of being OK, but recently perfomance has degraded again. Any suggestions more than welcome - I feel like I'm running Windows 95 on a Pentium machine...

I cannot build or run my application since update
Hi there,
currently I am learning objective-c and ios development. Two months ago I started the programming of an app for iphone. Since I haven't signed up for a development program yet, I can only test my app with the iOS simulator.
Today I updated xCode to the newest version and since then I cannot start my app. When building my app I get the following error message:
"CodeSign error: code signing is required for product type 'Application' in SDK 'iOS 6.0'". When I try to run my app I get a message window saying "Xcode annot run using selecte device. No rovisioned iOS devices are available with a compatible iOS version. [...] choose an iOS simulator as the destination."
Unfortunately I have no clue, how I can fix these two errors. Maybe some of you have an idea how to solve this? I would really love to continue in developing my app.
Best regards,
MarcelCheck the build scheme and be sure you're using the simulator.

Set sample rate to 96 kHz in iMac
If I go to Applications>Utilities>Audio Midi Support, I can set the Sample Rate to 96 kHz, but in fact the Sample Rate is back at 48 kHz next time I look. Question: How can I get the machine to accept and stay at the new sample rate of 96 kHz? Robert
