Photos missing from iCloud backup

Hi, I used to have a 4s with photos on and it started to lose wifi connection which meant iCloud backups were hit and miss. On occasion I tried to reset my phone to rectify the wifi issue and when restoring from an old iCloud backup some photos were missing as the restore went from the earliest back up and the photos weren't there.
Where are these photos now and is it possible to access them on the iCloud?
I now have a 5s and the same iCloud account.

Sorry Rich
You might want to check your Backup settings as well, and make sure that the Photo Library is turned on under Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage>click on your Device, and you will see the list of items that are checked to be backed up. If Photo Library is not turned on, you want to turn it on.
For importing in the future, you can either import to your computer or upload them to a cloud storage like Dropbox:
PHOTO IMPORT IOS TO MAC/PC
Once they have been imported to a computer, they can be selectively sync'd back via iTunes:

Best of luck, and sorry about your photos....

  • Photos missing from icloud

Hello, I'm a faithful user of icloud and all the photos I've taken prior to September of 2013 are missing from my iphone (over 1300 photos)!
I had to get a new phone earlier today when I left my other on an airplane.
I called iCloud earlier today, and they insisted that I had 1500 photos on my ICloud, and they should all show up on my new phone.
    Any help or insight?

If the backup is an iCloud backup you have to start by erasing your phone.  If you have any newer data on your phone that is not stored in the backup, you'll need to save that first.
Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts.
Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger as it is restoring the backup.

  • Photos missing from iCloud after repair

I picked up my iPhone 5 from being repaired, and now my photos are all gone--even though my wallpaper and lockscreen still have the photos from before, my camera roll is zero. The useless AppleCare chat people told me that my photos were all gone, but if I backed them up, is there any way to get them back?

Well, the link that I provided will get you specifically to the iCloud team.
It doesn't sound like you have been importing your photos to a computer or saving them on a cloud service of any sort. You really want to start doing this. iCloud or iTunes backups of your device are just backups, they are not a permanent collection of all of your photos. Every time you do a backup, it overlays the oldest backup, so if you have deleted photos from your device between backups, they will, eventually be unrecoverable because they simply won't be there. Don't know if you have a Mac or a PC, but this support article tells you how to import your photos to both. You should import them on a regular basis. If you have a Mac and iPhoto, you can actually set up your iCloud Photo Stream to automatically import into your iPhoto library, so if you forget to import, your Photo Stream photos will be saved to your Photo Library. Here's how to do the import from your Camera Roll into a Mac or PC Photo Library:

Sorry, don't know what you are asking. You have an old iPad Mini 3 and a new iPad Mini 3?  How did you set up the new iPad? Did you restore it from a backup of the old iPad? What photos are you not seeing?

  • Restore from iCloud backup. Pictures missing and ones there are blurry?

I went to the Apple Store and got a new phone so they went and did a restore from backup from iCloud. So, everything was fine and I went home and my apps were there. I look and only 900/1,700 photos transferred from iCloud onto the new device. Although, I have no more room on iCloud so they may still be there but because there is not enoguh wiggle room in the cloud for them to download, they cannot be pushed to the device. Or, more likely, my photos may be gone because the "genius" at Apple had wiped my phone so I'm not sure if my backup is still available or if it just says that it is. And, the 900 pictures that did transfer are all blurry and wont unblur so what should I do? Should I buy more storage and then restore this phone and restore from the previous iCloud backup? Help please

First of all, treat your device like a camera - always sync photos to a computer for archiving.  Many users have lost photos doing a restore from iCloud, and this is generally due to several reasons: only photos in the camera roll are backed up, and (it seems) iCloud messes up often enough when backup/restore is used.

I got a new iphone 6.  When I restore my phone from my icloud backup my most recent photos and messages not restored from icloud backup.  How do I get the most recent backup onto my new phone?

    Hello, Anita.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are wanting to restore your new iPhone 6 from an iPhone 5 backup.  This sounds like the iOS version of your old iPhone 5 may be newer than what was installed on your iPhone 6.  Try going through the steps in the article below.
iOS: Unable to restore from backup of a newer device
I would also check to see the backup dates in iTunes and if the  backup is located on iCloud instead of iTunes.

  • My phone has said its 'restoring from iCloud backup' for 2 days

I received my brand new iPhone 6 two days ago.
When I fired up the phone, I restored from iCloud back up that I did about 10 minutes before hand to make sure it was up-to-date.
Two days have passed, and my phone STILL says its restoring from iCloud backup yet everything is on the phone as far as I'm aware.
I have plugged it into my mac and synced to iTunes, yet its still displaying this message!
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

If you still have your old phone, back it up to your computer using iTunes (connect it, open iTunes, go to File>Devices>Back Up and choose to back up apps and transfer purchased if prompted).  Then stop the iCloud restore (Settings>iCloud>Backup>Stop Restoring...hopefully you can still do this in iOS 8) and restore the backup on your computer (connect your new phone, open iTunes, go to File>Devices>Restore from Backup).
Be sure to save any new data you may have (such as new photos) before restoring the backup again.

  • IPhone 5:  Restoring Camera Roll from iCloud Backup.

When restoring all data from iCloud Backup, Camera Roll never finished downloading.  It was stuck at 5 out of 715.  How can I restore Camera Roll from iCloud Backup now that the initial "start up" Restore is complete?

Got my photos & videos back into camera roll!  I woke this morning and all 701 were there.  This is a few less than the most recent backup had, but good enough. So, there were a few things flakey about my experience restoring from iCloud.  Therefore as many, including yourself have noted, iCloud IS ABSOLUTELY NOT A TRUSTED METHOD for backing up, storing or restoring photos & videos.  If your photos & videos are important to you, backup to your computer at regular intervals.
    What worked?
1:  Following randers4's suggestion to review ezjules' post (see above for link).
2:  When the most recent backup failed, I went to the next one available (2 days old)
3:  When the Photo App displaying X of XXX images downloading in camera roll got hung up on the first few images, I powered down the phone and it resumed downloading more.  However, it hung up 2 more times and then proceeded while I went to bed.
4:  Phone was plugged into A/C outlet entire time, no incoming or outgoing phone calls or texts.
I am no longer going to back up photos or videos to the cloud.  I will also cancel my additional storage capacity on iCloud.  Why pay for secure storage that is so flakey?!?

  • HT4859 I forgot to click Restore from iCloud Backup on new Device.

I forgot to click Restore from iCloud Backup on new Device, and then signed in on the Cloud with the same Apple ID I used to create the Cloud on my old iPhone.  Can i still access my CLoud backup for apps, photos, etc.?

You'll have to start over by going to Settings>General>Reset and tapping Erase All Content and Settings.  Then go back through the setup screens again and this time choose Restore from iCloud backup (see image below).  Note: your iCloud account and iCloud data will still be in your account and will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.  You also may want to connect your device to your charger as restoring from backup can take some time to complete.

  • About 1000 photos missing from IOS6 iPhoto and iPhone - how do I locate or recover them?

About 1000 photos missing from IOS6 iPhoto and iPhone - how do I locate or recover them?
About phone section says i have 3,223 photos - but I can no longer see about 1000 photos from about 2 years ago. This may be connected to recently trying to back up phone to iCloud, but i could not work out how to do that as I can't see any images at all showing in my iCloud account.
I am using iPhone 4s IOS 6.1.13 iPhone - didn't update software previously due to concerns about losing photos, ironically
My iTunes back tells me also that i have 3,303 photos in it - but again I can't understand how to locate these photos
    any help appreciated - thanks

With your iPhone connect to iPhoto, select the photos and/or videos you want to import followed by selecting Import Selected instead of selecting Import All.
It is a good idea to remove the photos and/or videos from your iPhone's Camera Roll after the import process is complete.

  • HT4859 I recently restored from iCloud backup,why weren't my pictures restored?

Just wondering why my photos weren't restored, when I restored my iPad from iCloud backup?

It's difficult to say whether it's stuck or not as the time to restore a backup can depend on many factors.  You'll have to decide when you think it's just not continuing.  You could try turning the phone off (hold the power button until you see the red off slider, then slide to turn off), then back on to see if that would get it going again.
When you're convinced it's just hung, you can go back to settings and tap Stop Restoring iPhone to stop the restore.  You'll then have to try restoring it again (Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup).  Be sure it's connected to your charger and wifi while it's restoring the backup.
You might also try the approach posted here by ezjules: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19518589#19518589.  This seems to have worked for some people who had trouble restoring their photos from an iCloud backup.

  • How do I get my photos down from iCloud on my new 4s? Does it take a few days or something?

I replaced my broken iPhone 4S with a new one. How do I get my photos down from iCloud? Only a few of them have come down. The stream is on and I am connected to wifi so I don't know what the problem is?

    Michael and wjosten!
Just thought I'd let you know what happened in the end with my iCloud issues, solved at tekserve:
When I took my phone to the Verizon store to pick up my new phone, she must have chosen the option "Set up as a new phone" rather than "restore phone from iCloud backup" or whatever. and then I went ahead and set up my phone, not knowing that was ever an option since SHE did it. So i ended up restoring my new phone to factory settings, choosing the OTHER option of restoring it from the iCloud backup i had done, and now I have everything back as it was, in perfect harmony:)
Thanks for both of your help.
Additional question: I usually charge my phone up, and let it run down to about 2%-5% before i recharge it all the way up again. But if i have to run, I may take it out of the charger when its not fully 100%. When I am able to stick it back and charge again, is it better to just NOT and let it run down again? or get it back up to 100% if i have the time?

  • Restored from iCloud backup but where are my contacts

I have lost some of my contacts and restored it from iCloud backup and it still didn't help, how can I get my contacts back? I have had contacts on in the ocotillo settings and my contacts are still missing... Also if I pick a further back backup then I will loss my current data, what should I do?

Were you syncing your contacts with iCloud?  If so, go to icloud.com on your computer and see if they are still there.  If they are, sign into the same iCloud account on your phone in Settings>iCloud, then turn Contacts syncing to On, and if prompted, choose Merge.

Unfortunately, the only way to remove a restrictions passcode is to restore your phone as new, without using a backup (because the backup simply restores the restriction passcode back to your phone).  You could, of course, restore the backup again and save as much of your data as you can before restoring it as new again.  For example, you could use an app like My Contacts Backup to back up your contacts as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to your self.  You can later open this email on your phone after restoring it as new and tap the attachment to import your contacts back to your phone.  You can also import your photos and videos to your computer as explained here: iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer, then sync them back to your phone later or transfer them back over your wifi using an app like PhotoSync.
