Photos Not Added

When I select photos from either iPhoto or Aperture (within iMovie) and drag them to the Project window I get a green + cursor but when I drop them they are not added. Why?

Also, projects do not appear to be saved. When I quit and reopen the project is gone.

Hello.
Sorry, but I am a newbie with PSE.
I am running version 7 on Windows 7 Home Premium. When I add new photos to the watched folder they are nit added to the catalog. I am not informed that there are new photos to be imported to the catalog.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

My photo stream is not updating either. I realized that going back to 10/2 my photostream stopped syncing with my camera roll and my Mac & iPad. It always worked perfectly before this...so I'm not sure what the heck is going on.
Has your's started working yet? What did you do to fix it. I've reset my phone and still no luck. Yes, on WiFi, fully charged devices...no dice. I can manually (cable) sync my photos to my Mac, but if I wanted to do that I woudln't have purchased a Mac.

Photo not in iPhoto?

After uploading pics to iPhoto, I open some of the better ones in PE3 for "post processing." If it was originally a JPEG, I save it in exactly the same location (usually by date) it came from but with a different name, but still as a JPEG again. When I go back to iPhoto, my new saved pic is not there, although I can find it easily in Finder > Pictures > iPhoto Library. Any way to have these pics viewable when I open iPhoto? Thanks

Let me give you a lot more info than you asked for, but your answer is in the info.
--First thing to know and remember is this...Do not drag any images, folder of images into the iPhoto Library in the Finder. Images have to be imported into iPhoto within the application. Do not scan images and save them into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. Save them to another location such as the Pictures folder or even the desktop. You can then import them into iPhoto.
If you have already put files/folders in the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder then you will also find out that if you try to import them into iPhoto you will get an error message. No worry, just drag them to the desktop and import from there.
--All images that you import are shown in the library view. You can choose how you want to view, by rolls, by date, by rating, etc. When you put images in an Album, slideshow, book, etc, you are actually just putting pointers to those images in the library. You are not adding more images. If you delete an image from the Album it will still be in the library. If you delete an image from the library it is deleted from iPhoto's database and your hard drive (unless you have it backed up somewhere else)
--You have a folder of images on your hard drive and want to import them into iPhoto. Drag the folder of images into an open iPhoto Library window and the folder of photos will be copied into the library, resulting in a new roll with the name of the folder. You now have two copies of those photos, the ones in iPhoto's database and the ones on your desktop. You can keep the ones on your desktop that you just imported as backup or you can delete that folder.

in iPhoto, the original and the edited one. The edited one will be in the library organize view. The original is packed away in an Original folder in your iPhoto Library folder under the date of the roll. You can always revert to the original by control clicking on the photo and choose "revert to orginal" You will not have this choice if you used iPhoto Diet to get rid of the Originals.
(a quick note on cropping within iPhoto...when you are in edit mode, you automatically will be in the crop mode with cross hairs to highlight the crop area. To finish cropping you must click the crop button and then go back to library view and your cropped picture will be there.
3.You want to use Photoshop or another graphic program to edit a picture in your iPhoto library.
You can open up prefs for iPhoto and choose "when double clicking on
photo ..do" choose "other" and select Photoshop. Now you can edit all
pictures in your iPhoto library in PhotoShop by double clicking. If you save the photo with the same name and as a flattened file it will be saved right into iPhoto and you will see the changes. If you don't want to save it into iPhoto then do a "save as" and save to the desktop. You will then have the original photo still in iPhoto and your new edited photo on the desktop.
Or, with iPhoto open, you can drag a picture from the library window

I would advise anyone not to do this as they might forget to use the option key and drag the photo out. Next time you open iPhoto the photo will be missing.

Photos not displaying in Album

Hi, I am unable to view photos I have taken since 28th June. I have cleared the data and the cache for the album app and restarted my phone several times but am still unable to view the photos and just have a black thumbnail for each photo. Please help as there are photos of my children which are irreplaceable.

i too have the added problem of photos not being viewed or being shared etc.. ever since the newest android update.. i have a 128gb memory card in my z3 so i thought it was just that, cos its very large, so i replaced it with a new 64gb micro card. but it too is now doing same thing... please help as this is really annoying now. and i do not want to format any more of my photos.. my phone isuk issueandroid version 5.0.2build no 23.1.A.1.28

Photo app on ipad randomly switches to photos not in the album

I added a new album of photos from my pc to my itunes to use as a slideshow to showcase specific photots. It is the oddest thing, part way through the slideshow it will randomly pull photos not included in the album and show them in the slideshow. Has anyone else encountered this or know why the ipad photo app might be doing this?

Unfortunately, photo stream on a PC is iffy at best. Many people have problems getting it to work properly, including myself. A work around would be to use an app like PhotoSync on your PC, which can send photos wirelessly to the camera roll on any of your iOS devices on the same wifi network. Once in the camera roll, you iOS device will be added to your photo stream.

Edited photos not appearing in Organizer

Found what appears to be another problem in PSE8. Roughly 30-40% of the time, photos edited from the Organizer do not appear in the Organizer after saving. Select a photo in the Organizer, Select Quick Edit from the Orange Edit tab at top right, make edits, Save As with save in version set and include in organizer checked, close the photo. Photo saves to folder location correctly with "_edited-1" appended to file name. Photo frequently does not appear in the organizer in a Stack with the original like it is supposed to. Manually dragging the photo into the organizer from the folder adds it to the Catalog, proving it was not added like it was supposed to be. In one case, after dragging the photo into the organizer and selecting both photos to create a Stack, the Stack option was not availalbe in the right click menu (or in any menus). Had to shutdown and restart PSE8 to be able to Stack the photos. These were large JPG photos made with Canon 7D. If somebody knows a workaround or possible cause, let me know. Otherwise this is another one for a PSE8 update to resolve.

Photos not visible in iPhoto 6

I'm a Mac newbie, and haven't been able to figure out the following situation.
I transfered all of my .JPG files from my PC to the 'iPhoto Library' using my home network.
Problem: I can't seem to see any of my pictures using iPhoto or other applications that are iPhoto compatible.
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

If you manually put your photos into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder, Then that is your problem. they need to be imported into iPhoto for iPhoto to see them.
Drag them out of the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop, then drag them into an open iPhoto viewing window.

Unifying different iPhoto libraries & photos not in a library

I am still trying to fix some iPhoto issues that have cropped up due to hard drive failures. We have had 3 hard drives in about 2.5 years. We have several thousand (maybe 20K?) pictures in our library. Because it takes so long to back-up the library, and because I have been told that intense things like working in iMovie and backing up huge iPhoto libraries physically wears down the hard drive, I had tried backing up by adding new rolls of film to my external hard drive. THESE ROLLS WERE NOT ADDED IN THE CONTEXT OF THE IPHOTO LIBRARY, and I now realize that I have messed up iPhoto's cooperation between Modified, Originals, and Thumbnails. But, I'd like to have one cohesive library again, and just from now on back up the entire library every time. So, here's my questions:
(1) Before this last hard drive crash this spring, I had two iPhoto Library back-ups of the entire library on external hard drives. One from 7/2006 and one from 10/2006. These include thumbnails, originals, modified, everything.
(2) After 10/2006, I have the year-named folders (from the Originals folder, I believe) saved separately. I.e., I have the 2007,2006, etc folder saved outside of the iPhoto library on my external hard drives.
(3) When this last internal hd failed this spring, I imported the back-up from 7/2006, rather than the later one from 10/2006. Photos have been added to this library since then. So...now I have my active iPhoto library containing photos up to 7/2006 and since 3/2007. Photos taken from 8/2006 to 2/2007 are missing.
(5) I still have all the entire library up to 10/2006 saved.
(6) The missing photos from 8/2006 to 2/2007 are contained in separate folders stored only by their yearly folder, not stored within the iPhoto library.
How can I combine all this to make one cohesive library, always to saved as a unit, never to be picked apart again? I need to do this soon. I appreciate all your help!

Here's what I'd do.
1 - launch the working library that has the most files in it.
2 - locate those photos that are in folders only and not in any library and import into the primary library. If there are duplicates in there for any reason, iPhoto will alert you and you can opt not to import duplicates.
3 - use iPhoto Library Manager to copy the rolls of the other library(s) into your primary library like this. You can set the options to not import duplicates. Using iPLM will let you keep comments and keywords intact between the libraries.
4 - once you have your primary library up to date and are satisfied that it is current, delete the other library(s) and folders of files.
5 - copy the primary iPhoto Library folder to the external HD as your backup.
6 - use a backup application likeSynk (other backup applications were reviewed by MacWorld in their Feb issue- also online I think) to backup the library on a regular basis. Using a backup application only those files which have changed or added are copied making it very quick.
7 - follow the tip at the end of my signature to make a backup of the database file, Library6.iPhoto, after every import, after any considerable work on books, calendars, etc. and at least once a day.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Edited photos not backed up

Photos edited in iPhoto are not restored. I tested.
I have more than 2000 photos edited in iPhoto and if something happens I can restore all photos but then I need to do the work of editing all over again. And even the rates and flaggs , everything besides the original photo is not backed up.
Am I missing something ?

Consider these questions:
When was the photo originally added to iPhoto? (Date #1)
+Backups take place.+
When was the photo edited in iPhoto? (Date #2)
+Backups take place.+
Now you need to go back and recover the photo in Time Machine. (Date #3)
Do you see how choosing the correct date from which to restore the photo from Time machine makes a difference as to what copy you eventually end up with?
If you restore from a backup BEFORE Date #2, you'll get an original copy of the photo.
But if you restore from a backup AFTER Date #2, you should get an edited copy of the photo.
Does that make sense?

argggh. Not sure if this bug is new with Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 or existed in 12 which I skipped. My photo albums added to Mobile albums have all photos older then 1970 showing dates (in Photoshop elements) of 12/39/1969 6:59 PM. This is a pain. Not sure if it will scree up the date taken values which at least for now seems to be valid in the Metadata.

PS CC edit not added to LR 5 catalog

I understand from the documentation that if I select a RAW file in LR 5 and choose Photo > Edit in > Photoshop CC I can then edit the file in PS and when I save the changes the new file is added to my LR catalog with the word 'Edit' added to the file name.
I'm not seeing this.
I select the edit in PS option and the file is opened in PS and I can make changes. When I then save those changes the file is saved in the original folder as 'untitled 1' and it is not added to the LR 5 catalog.
I've checked the settings I can think of but cannot seem to resolve the issue. Has anyone any ideas what may be wrong or what I may have missed?

PS I have noted that when sending the file from LR to PS it (LR) does not ask me if I want to send a copy to PS, this does happen on my MB Pro. Any ideas what is wrong please?

I think “Cloud Manager” means the app called Adobe Creative Cloud that has a red icon background and two C’s facing each other so they look like an infinity symbol. It is where you see a list of all your CC apps.
The normal solution is to uninsta PS-CC-2014 and re-install it, but maybe it works to uninstall the Adobe Creative Cloud app, too.

When will my photo be added to the Photo Stream vs. Camera Roll?

This is extremely frustrating. It didn't bother me so much before when sometimes I took photos (via camera, within text messaging, through a 3rd party app...etc.) and the photo decided to go into my Photo Stream as well as my Camera Roll. I never new when it would do it and when it wouldn't. But it was no big deal until today.
I found a bunch of pictures of rings my wife wants from old text messages. I did an iPhone screen grab of those pictures and messages so I can find the ring. I then learned that those screen graps are now on our shared photo stream! And we already know we cannot delete individual images from the stream. So now my wife can simply look into the stream and there will be no surprise for her on V-Day. Ugh!
How can we decifer when a picture will go into the stream or not?

I would like to send an E-Mail with a small photo (not as an attachment) to someone who is reluctant to open attachments. Can I do this and how??

If you insert an image into the body, it will still be 'attached', even though it won't be listed as an attachment in the usual way. Another option is to upload the photo to your personal storage space such as OneDrive or Google Drive, and then email the link to the image. The image can then be displayed in a web browser. If you don't have a storage space, there are plenty of free image-hosting services.
