Photos not sending through iMessage when on WiFi?

Searched for an answer for this but so far no luck - sorry if this has already been solved elsewhere.
I have an iPhone 4S running iOS6 (although I was having this issue pre-iOS6). My iPhone sends iMessages, so long as they are text, fine, delivers read receipts, everything fine when I'm on WiFi. It used to send photos on all the WiFi connections I typically use (home, campus, favorite coffee shop, etc.) but about a week prior to iOS 6 it decided it would no longer send photos via iMessage. When I want to send a photo I have to turn off my wireless, and send the photo on data. Then I turn wireless right back on and resume sending texts via iMessage. I have no issues with other WiFi functions - web browsing, etc. is unaffected.
SMS and MMS are on. My iMessaging is directly linked to my phone number, not my Apple ID, if that makes a difference?
Hoping someone can help with this, especially since it appears its not my wireless signal thats the problem as my iPhone has decided to do this over multiple different wireless signals it used to not have an issue with..

No, my AppleID is only linked to my iPhone and my MacBook Pro (which does not have messages installed).
I am on the Telus network.
I'm really really disappointed in apple. Why would I shell out cash for an iPhone 5 when the operating system doesn't work properly on my current phone? In addition to this iMessage issue other issues I'm facing include abbreviated texts (ie typing "brb" and having my phone correct it to "be right back") don't work anymore, despite me checking to make sure they hadn't been erased during updates; and now today my iPhone decided to do this great trick where it SAYS its connected to my wifi, displays the blue check mark, but remains connected to 3G in the upper status bar. Turning wifi off and on as well as restarting the phone does not fix this.
Come on apple. You've basically secured the fact that this will be my last apple purchase. Funny that my friends with androids and windows phones never have any problems, isn't it?

  • Photos not sending using imessage on iPhone 6 plus

When I try to send photos using iMessage over wifi on my new iphone 6 plus they rarely send. The sending bar slowly goes to about 95% and then freezes. Very very occasionally (1 in 20) they send but take a good hour. Sending the same photo to the same person on my iPad air is so easy and the pic goes in the blink of an eye. This is so frustrating because one of the main uses for my phone is chatting and Sending pics.
I Have tried resetting the phone, the network (although if its sending on the iPad it can't be the network), ive toggled iMessage on and off, ive tried everything I've seen on the forums. I have mms / 4g turned off when at home so that I'm not using data when I have my wifi. Text messages are sending fine. It's just picture messages. I am on iOS 8.1. I have super fast wifi so that isn't the issue.
Any help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated. Apologies if this question has been posed elsewhere. I couldn't find the same issue.
    Thanks

Just solved this issue by turning iMessage off in the Settings app, waiting a few seconds, and turning it back on.

  • My cousin isn't recieving my text messages. We never text through imessage because she is never connected to WIFI. Now, when I text her, it is sending through imessage but she isn't recieving them.

My cousin recently got an Ipad. Ever since then, when we text through our iphones, our thread is through imessage, and when I send her a text, it says delivered, but she isn't recieving them. She insists she has imessage turned off on both devices. She doesn't use imessage because she is never connected to wifi and doesn't want to use her data, so that is why we text through regular texting (green and white). I don't know if this has anything to do with her setting up her ipad, but my texts to her started sending through imessage only right after she set up the new device. My texts are being delivered somewhere because after I text her, it says "delivered"  I can also recieve texts from her, she just can't see mine. Again, she said imessage is not activated on either of her devices, so I have no idea what the problem is. She is able to text other people with iphones just fine. We both have an iphone 5S, and she just got a used ipad mini. PLEASE HELP!!

It is no wonder she is not receiving your messages if she has iMessage turned off in her iPad.
For her to receive iMessages on the iPad, she needs to turn iMessage ON in her iPad and then she needs to be connected to the internet in order to receive them.  This connection can go through WiFi or through cellular data if her iPad has this functionality, but those two requirements are a must.
    1. iMessages ON
    2. iPad connected to Wifi or cellular data.

I change phones and i am not getting regular txt messages because somehow the messages are still sending through imessage which i no longer have.... I deleted my phone number from the account though as per instructiions from the phone carrier and is still not working...Any help?

    Hello jn_andrade,
It sounds like you are no longer getting text messages becuase your Apple ID is still using your phone number for iMessage. I would use these steps to unlink your phone number from your account:
    Unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages. If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.
From: iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage

  • Still tries to send me imessage when my data is off

    Hey everyone
I'm really new to the iphone and there's something that I'm trying to understand. I have imessage activated all the time, but I turn my wifi/cellular off and on all the time throughout the day. My girlfriend keeps her cellular on all the time but her phone keeps trying to send me iMessages when I've turned my network off. Isn't her phone supposed to recognize that I'm offline and send SMS instead? The way it is now she always sends me texts and thinks they've been sent only to discover later that they weren't sent because it tried to use imessage. And the option to send as SMS in the messages settings is enabled. Please enlighten me!
    Thanks

Yes, as I understand it, the limit is technically 128 bytes, and Hillebrand determined that 160 7-bit characters just nicely fit, on average, into that signaling bandwidth (hard to have people track their message length in bytes, so someone had to make the call of a countable character limit).
I just remember being so annoyed with it on my phones in the 1990's and stupid "predictive" text entry on a standard phone keyboard, as well as having to actually count your characters so you would not get an error on send
P.S. back on one of these even (or one of those old Qualcomm phones, I can't remember the model numbers I had) - although sometimes, I miss those old simpler cell phones.

  • Can iMessage be used with non iOS 5 users, ie non-apple users. My new i-pad 2 error message says these contacts are not recognized by imessage when I try to text some of these contacts.

Can iMessage be used with non iOS 5 users, ie non-apple users?
My new i-pad 2 error message says these contacts are not recognized by imessage when I try to send them a text.

So that means that I can send text messages through my i-phone to reach non iOS 5 users, but not through my i-pad 2.

  • Since iOS6, whenever I send an iMessage to my wife, it sends the message to me too.  How do I stop this? My wife and I share the same email address.

Since iOS6, whenever I send an iMessage to my wife, it sends the message to me too.  How do I stop this? My wife and I share the same email address.

On at least one of the phones, go to Settings/ Messages/ Send & Receive and then tap the e-mail address to turn that option off.  That should force the iMessage to be sent to the unique phone numbers of the phones, not the e-mail address that is common between the phones.
Or alternatively, create a new e-mail address for one of you and select that as the e-mail option to receive at on one of the phones instead of the shared e-mail.

  • My Iphone 4 will not send regular SMS messages. I have tried resetting my phone and by restoring and making sure i have SMS turned on. I receive them but can not send them. imessages work also. Plus my cellular data keeps randomly turning off. any ideas?

Yes I have turned imessage off a number of times and that does not seem to he doing the trick, and it is not delivering them then I have to press on the photo and either chose try again or send as text message, I have had the setting on to not allow sending pictures as texts (so they can only send as imessage) since I got my phone in January and it has always worked until now, I have turned that off to allow me to send them as picture messages now but it's still not working over iMessage, I have also tried it using 3G and not wifi

I had the same problem. I went in and added my email address to iMessage and deleted the text to my friends that have iPhones and sent another to test it and it worked. Only thing is now my non iPhone friends don't receive my pic text. I had to turn off iMessage for it to work. Apple needs to fix this ASAP!

  • One contact who has an iPhone but messaging will not send as iMessage

I have one contact, who has an iPhone, but messaging will not send as iMessage, only text.  All my other contacts with iPhones, the messages go as iMessages - even messages going to people who are not in my contacts.  What is the fix?

But if that person did not set up an iMessage account on their iPhone, then they cannot receive any iMessages at all, only SMS text messages.
Both the sender and the recipient must have an iOS device with an active iMessage account.
There is nothing you can do about it, other than ask them to set up iMessage on their device (which if they don't want to, is their choice).

  • Iphone4 does not send texts/imessage properly.

I've had this iphone for 18 months and it does not send texts/imessages properly. The iphone will be sending texts completely fine and it will have good 3G connection but then out of nowhere the phone will take over 20 minutes to send texts/imessages. Phone connection is out of the question. it does this on and off very frequently. It started doing it very rarely but its been doing it more and more often.
