Photos offloaded from phone stored in cloud?

If I offload photos from my iPhone onto my Mac laptop are they automatically stored or saved in Apple's cloud so that I get retrieve them later? Where are all my photos stored that are in my phone and iPhoto? I know some files are on my hard drive but are they also kept on the cloud? All of them?

Depends.  If you have iPhoto connected to your photo stream and have Automatic Import checked in iPhoto>Preferences>Photo Stream, your photo stream photos are automatically imported into your iPhoto Events and the photos are stored on your hard drive.  If not, a rolling collection of up to 1000 photos will be kept in your my photo stream album and older photos will start being deleted once you reach that limit.
Other photos in iPhoto are stored on your Mac.  You can see where by clicking on a photo and going to File>Reveal in Finder>Original File.
The camera roll photos on your iPhone are only on your phone, but copies may be streamed to iPhoto and imported to your Mac if you have photo stream enabled (as discussed above).  They are also stored in your iPhone backup.
Photos in the Photo Library album (if you have one) were synced from your Mac and should be therefore be on your computer.
Don't rely on iCloud to back up your photos.  If you want to be sure you have all your photos backed up on your computer, save your photo stream photos to the camera roll (unless already there) by tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  Then import all your camera roll photos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

  • IOS8 photos deleted from phone

After upgrading to iOS8, all of the photos from my phone have been deleted and it only shows the last 102 recent photos. I had over 5,000 photos on my camera roll and I have no idea where those photos have gone or how to get them back. Even though, I have them on my iPhoto, I reference them all the time.
Second, it appears to be syncing with my iPhoto library at random and I DO NOT want this to happen, as I have over 48,000 photos in my library (I know, it's big). It's also syncing at random with photos that are years and years old that I have no need for on my phone.
How to I change the settings to fix both. Thanks!

Strange behavior again, with the original library : If I select NO event and use the menu Information, I've got 14.634 photos. If I select all events, I've got 15.760 photos. How can I have more photos in all events than in my Library ??????
Check, if you have hidden photos.
File > New Smart Album,  with a rule: Photo is hidden
In my iPhoto Library the "Hidden" flag accounts for the difference in the Photos count between selecting all events and no events.
Make sure, "View > Hidden Photos" is enabled in the View menu, so you can recognize hidden photos by the X.

  • Why do i keep getting a cannot find message when I import photos/videos from phone?

It seems like iphoto won't copy pics/vids from my phone. Do i have to save them in a folder for it to save????

Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff: What version of iPhoto. What version of the Operating System. Details. What were you doing when the problem arose? Did it ever work properly? Step-by-step descriptions of how you got to this issue. If something doesn't work, are there error messages? What are the error message? What happens when you try to do this thing? And what steps have you tried already to solve the issue. With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that a helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

  • Why when playing music from APTV3 stored in cloud does it stop after 5 or so songs??

I have loaded all my itunes library to the cloud, (itunes match) £21.99 per annum, i switch on Apple tv3 which is hard wired to my virgin superhub 20mb, i choose music (itunes match) and select a tune or playlist or an album, hit play and we have music, APTV3 has HDMI into AV amp so amp plays music to speakers, but after say 5 or so songs it stops playing, as though its paused. But the marker just sits at the start of the song and the little loading sign just spins!! frustrating!!!!
    Any ideas anyone please
just to say if i play from laptop or iphone and airplay it to APtv3 its fine!!! No drop outs, stutter or stops!!

  • Can I backup all the photos on my iPhone to the cloud, then delete them from my phone to free up space?

Can I backup all the photos on my iPhone to the cloud, then delete them from my phone to free up space (but be able to restore them if I need them again?)

Thanx for the link...here's my problem.  I built my windows pc and installed 2 hard drives...but the larger one isn't accessible right now...not sure why...but the solid state little one is full. This is a problem I need one of my kid's to help me address.  I have a lot of photos 'cause my husbands into photography, we travel a lot, and somehow thousands of photos he took, plus ones I took, plus videos I took, ended up on my iPhone...and they are different in a lot of cases from the photos on the iPad that we share.  I know I have 2 address this someday, bu don't have time right now...and I can't take any new photos or videos...or even add an app for that matter, until I free up some space on my iPhone.  We've already taken two brief trips where I wanted to use my camera and couldn't...and I was looking for a quick way to address my picture taking ability...because we are leaving for another trip in a week, and another one right after that.  This is probably way more info than you need...but there are probably duplicates...but until I go thru them I won't know. I could be wrong, but I thought when I backed up my photos to iCloud that all the photos in the photo app were backed up.  Maybe I'm wrong and it's only those in the Photo Stream...in which case I should do something about that as well, 'cause I've upgraded our storage plan twice now...and it is getting pretty expensive...and I don't even know how to use it other than to do a complete restore when you get a new device which I just did recently because my son wanted our old iPad for a graduation present, and I kind of wanted the better camera on the new iPad, so I got one...and it took a week to retrieve everything from the cloud on our wi-fi! I hope this makes some sense to you, and appreciate any advice you have to share!

  • HT201317 I wonder if I download my pictures to my computer then delete from phone(for stirage purpose) are they stil saved in the cloud?!

How long do my pictures stay stored in the cloud and if I delete off my phone do they stay in the cloud?!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Your pictures are stored in the cloud for 30 days (subject to a limit of 1000 photos).
If you delete them from Photo stream on your phone they are deleted from the cloud, providing they are photos that are actually stored in the cloud (i.e. less than 30 days old).

  • How do i get photos to save directly into my cloud not just my phone?

i purchased extra room on my iCloud and turned on photo stream on my devices. i did this so my photos would be stored on the cloud because i always run out of storage on my phone. firstly, how do i get pictures to start automatically saving into the photo stream? and how do i get photos to save directly into the cloud and not just on my device? I have my cloud connected between my macbook, ipad and iphone. i have mountain lion on my macbook, my ipad was just purchased last week so should be up to date, and have downloaded and installed the most up to date software on my phone.

    Hello zampass,
Photos do not take up space on your iCloud storage. Photo Stream is seperate from iCloud storage.
Does Photo Stream use my iCloud storage?
No. Photos uploaded to My Photo Stream or Shared Photo Streams do not count against your iCloud storage.
From: iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4486
I would recommend turning on Photo Stream, outlined in the same FAQ:
How do I turn on Photo Stream?
Once your devices are up to date and you have set up your iCloud account, it’s easy turn on Photo Stream on any of your devices. Here’s how:
On your iOS devices, go to Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream, and turn on My Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams.
On your Mac, go to System Preferences > iCloud and select the checkbox for Photo Stream. Click the Options button to verify that both My Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams are enabled. Then, open iPhoto or Aperture to confirm that My Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams are turned on in the application you want to use with Photo Stream. You can also adjust your Photo Stream settings in iPhoto or Aperture Preferences.
And tell iPhoto to automatically Import the photos to the computer from Photo Stream in the iPhoto Preferences:
That way your Photo stream items will always Automatically download to your computer and you can sync them to whatever device you choose.
When all that is setup, you can delete newer photos as you take them or periodically from the Camera Roll to free up space.
Keep this in mind from the FAQ:
What photo formats does Photo Stream support?
Photo Stream supports JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and most RAW photo formats. Photo Stream does not work with video.
    Take care,
    Sterling
