Photos on my iPod and Windows/Mac issue

A friend of a friend is selling . . .
APPLE iPOD Video 30Gb (5th generation)
So, two questions: if it has been used in conjunction with a Windows-based PC is this likely to give me grief if I wish to use it with my Mac?
or will it need reformatting and is this likely to cause problems?
Secondly, can I view photos and store on it?

"is this likely to give me grief if I wish to use it with my Mac?
or will it need reformatting and is this likely to cause problems?"
It won't necessarily need reformatting becuase Macs can read and write to Windows formatted iPods. However, you would then need to make any future software updates to the iPod on Windows. Much better to reformat it for your Mac when you get it.
"can I view photos and store on it?"
Yes you can.

  • IPOD and Windows ME

Hey everyone, quick question. Does anybody know if their are any drivers that I can download so that my Ipod Nano will work on my computer. I have Windows ME, and I guess Ipod isn't compatible with ME. Anyone know of any drivers?

    Anapod Reinitializer 1.0.0
Anapod Reinitializer is a free, lightweight utility for reformatting and reinitializing your iPod. Its function is equivalent to the Restore button in the Apple iPod Updater utility. Anapod Reinitializer runs on all versions of Windows, so it allows Windows 98/ME users (who cannot use Apple's software because it only runs on 2000/XP) to format their iPods.
    Anapod Explorer 8.7.3
Anapod Explorer is hands-down the most advanced Windows software companion for your iPod. Anapod can copy and backup iPod music and playlists to your PC and integrates your iPod into Windows Explorer as a full-fledged device under My Computer, allowing you to transfer files to your iPod as well and use a familiar Explorer interface to manage on-board music, playlists, contacts, notes, and more. Also included are a built-in database called AnapodSQL and a one-of-a-kind web-based streaming interface to your iPod called Anapod Xtreamer.

  • HT4972 Both my iPod and computer (mac) say that iOS 6.1.5  is the latest software available. I have a 4th generation iPod touch, how do I get it to update to iOS 7?

Both my iPod and computer (mac) say that iOS 6.1.5  is the latest software available. I have a 4th generation iPod touch, how do I get it to update to iOS 7?

. As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod.
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB

  • Can't update ipod (windows-mac issue)

My mom got a MacBook on sale so this is now what I use for everything; it is faster and more efficient than the PC that we own. On my iTunes, I can do everything exceptupdate my iPod nano. It simply says "Only Macintosh-formatted iPods can be updated." How do I change my Windows-formatted iPod to a Macintosh-formatted iPod?

Are you sure that there is no way to change the
    format?
I never said there wasn't a way to change the
    format.
To change the format, select it in iTunes on the Mac
    and select Restore.
I am having a similar issue with my daughters ipod nano. It was formatted for windows when we bought it (we have the songs on a mac) but it only downloads some of her library not all. Having looked in some of the forums it suggests restoring however when we plug the ipod into the mac the button for restoring the ipod to factory settings is not highlighted. In this case how can the ipod be restored to a mac setting? We are using the latest itunes software and OSX operating system.

  • Lion, Boot Camp and Windows 7 Issues

Couple of questions regarding Lion, Boot Camp and Windows 7... I never had issues with Snow Leopard and setting up Windows 7 on my iMac (expcept the dreaded black screen after restart, bu got that fixed)
Let me start off with my specs and then I will ask my questions:
    iMac 27"
    i7 Quad Core (1st gen)
    16GB Ram
    1TB HDD
OS X Lion (Fresh Install - Not Upgrade)
All updates for OS and iLife and other installed software:
    Adobe Creative Suite CS5
    MS Office 2011
    Boot Camp 4.0
    Window 7 Ultimate
    Ok... here are my questions.
When I fixed my black screen issues after installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 - I had to install MacFUSE and Tuxera NTFS in order to delete the the stock ATI driver so the second rebot on the install of windows 7 would work and boot correctly. After rebotting into my mac side I now always get this message from Tuxera.
What does this mean? Now in the finder when looking at the computer drives.. It does not show the BOOTCAMP partition...
However, when I resart i can hold down the ALT key and get this menu:
I know this might seem strange to ask, but why are the Macintosh HD and the Recovery HD text smoothed and the Windows text not? Being a design I see the difference and it makes me wonder why this is. (It is almost like the BSOD icon apple used forwhen connecting with shared PCs)... Anyways, I can boot into windows when clicking this drive.
After getting to windows 7 it will not let me run updated. The OS is activated and I have even installed SP1 manually, but it always tells me that the Update service is not running. When in fact it is. I have checked it and it is set to start automatically. I have reset and shutdown my computer more than 10 times... I can't figure out what the issues are.
    Overview:
Why do I get the Tuxera NTFS error?
Why can I see the boot camp partion when manually selecting it form startup, but it does not show in OS X
I can't get Windows to update? Any ideas?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

These various utilities like Tuxera are incompatible with Lion. Partly because MacFuse is incompatible. You need to remove them completely.
As for the Windows partition you might consider using Boot Camp Assistant to remove it. Then make a new partition and install Windows. Remember to use the Windows formatter to format the Windows partition NTFS.

  • Problems with Ipod and Windows Media Player PLEASE HELP

Ok i am not sure if this is the correct forum or not but i am having a problem. I have a Windows computer (Yes a windows computer please dont everyone yell at me) and i have a new ipod 30 gig video. Ok well when i put itunes on it changes all my music on my computer gets changed to AAC format and i cannot play music in windows media player. Ok well that is not my big issue. I make videos for church using windows movie maker and i cannot import music because nothing windows can recognize Itunes format which is AAC. well is there anyway so i can use itunes and still use WIndows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker... Any info will be greatly appreciated. THANKS ALL

I believe Quicktime Pro (which is available for Windoze) is capable of opening any WMP files and then you just export it as iPod format. That is how I get video onto the iPod. The Music and Videos all can be placed onto your iPod through iTunes.
So, if you are creating videos in your program, and want them on your iPod, then that is how you can do it.
Videos on your iPod have nothing to do with the formatting of your music. But, as the earlier post stated, change your prefs in iTunes to import as MP3. But, your videos HAVE to be in MP4 or M4V format to work on the iPod.
    Good luck... and I'm a j3susfreak too

  • ICal will no longer sync with macmini still syncs with iPhone, iPod and another mac...what happened?

iCal will no longer sync with wife's mac mini.  It works with our iPhone, iPod and and older  G5 tower.  I am using an iMac.   Nothing shows up on the mobile me calendar in her office.  I have been unable to get the shared calendar to open on her machine.  All had been well until yesterday.
    Thanks for any help.

I did restore from back-up as well. And I had thought of restoring my iPod to factory settings however...I just got my mother-in-law's old iPhone 3GS. Upon getting it from her I restored it to factory settings. After having the problems tonight syncing my iPod to iTunes I tried syncing the iPhone. It started out fine, showing it as a new device and setting it up. It shows both devices on my iTunes and then when I went to sync it I got the error message that none of the songs could be copied from my iTunes because they could not be found. But they all clearly show up in my iTunes. I had done this before when I was having the issue with my books and then I had deleted them all from iTunes and readded a few that I wanted to put on my iPod and it still wouldn't sync them. So I really don't want to take absolutely everything off my iPod and restore it to factory only to be unable to add anything from my iTunes ever again as is the case with the iPhone.

  • New hard drive and Windows 7 issues

I bought a new 1 Tetra Samsung hard drive for my computer since 150GB was not enough. I did this because I need windows partitioned for school. After I installed the hard drive and inserted the Mac OS disk, it would not recognize the hard drive to install. Since then, I have read previous forums such as: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3322843?start=0&tstart=0
Now, the issue is: I went ahead and installed my Windows XP SP2 because I could not get Mac OS to install. I have also downloaded the Windows 7 Professional update from Microsoft and have a Operating Disk on its way in the mail. I am having some issues with sound and camera and probably others that I don't know about yet, like my graphics card and such. What should I do?
    1. Erase HD and install the Mac OS, because I do want this on my computer. Then download updates for Windows 7 bootcamp and reinstall Windows 7 when I get it in the mail.
    or,
    2. Is there a way to fix the driver issues that I am having without having to reinstall windows. I have not tried to partition yet and install mac.
I think it would be best to:
    Install Mac OS
    Download updates
    Bootcamp and Install Windows 7
What do you think and do you have any advice as how I should go about this. Oh, btw, living in a PC world and coming home to my Macbook Pro 3,1 and realizing that it is not as functional is kinda disappointing.
So, I found this site for the sound: http://www.stuffedcow.net/macbook_audio
    And: http://www.cirrus.com/en/products/cs4207.html
I am not sure how to go about installing a new driver. Do I download and save or do I run a certain .exe?
I found this post and was reading, but I am not certain about the right driver for the sound. If I erase the hard drive and install mac. Then, bootcamp and install windows, will I loose my wifi driver? Windows 7 should have that update, but according to this post, it may not.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2534313

If I were in your shoes I would want to understand why I couldn't install OSX on the internal drive before going any further. Without getting past that hurdle you may or may not be successful in your aims, but you are outside mainstream intended ways of running Bootcamp.
    Just a couple of starters:-
    1. Is your internal hard drive (samsung) formatted with a GUID partition table and HFS+ file system? All done in Disk Utility, booted from the Install disk.
    2. The Apple Install disk (plus subsequent Apple Software Updates) has all the drivers Bootcamp needs, without having to find and download from elsewhere. I run Windows 7 64 bit on two Macs and have never had to go and find a driver. (Of course Windows does it automatically for me for other hardware). Sorry if this next point is insultingly obvious, but just to check that you know you can put the Apple Install Disk in while running Windows and Windows find the installer.
You don't say anything what your MBP is or what version of OSX you are running. I am not fully up to date with the inplications of Lion and Bootcamp drivers as there is no install disk. I believe 2011 MBPs won't run XP.
Your comment "Oh, btw, living in a PC world and coming home to my Macbook Pro 3,1 and realizing that it is not as functional is kinda disappointing" implies that you haven't had a Mac very long. Although Macs are easy to pick up and use, there is a LOT to learn about customisation and using it properly and getting the most out of them. I have a number of relatives who still use OSX "out of the box"....it's like driving a car in first gear, and complaining "this car doesn't go very fast". Not a perfect analogy as speed is not the issue here.
Sorry if some of this post is missing the target...just take on board the bits that apply.

  • Is there something wrong with ipod and Windows XP? ipod not found at all?

search for ipod in microsoft help and support....
    here's a bit here's what microsotft says:
To resolve this problem, delete the UpperFilters registry value and the LowerFilters registry value. These values may cause access problems. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit , and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the UpperFilters registry value. This value is located in the following registry subkey:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E980-E325 11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    4. Locate and then click the LowerFilters registry value. This value is located in the following registry subkey:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10 318}
    5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    6. Exit Registry Editor.
    7. Restart the computer.
my computer would crash, sometimes it'd just sync a couple random songs, sometimes i'd get error -50, somtimes a different message that said the disk could not be read or written to.....
it worked perfectly for me!make sure to follow the directions. it's easy and resolves many Windows XP problems related to ipods. for more info try microsoft help and support and just serch for ipod. it list a bit more info there. it doesn't say anything about reinstalling the apple software, but just to be thorough i unistalled itunes and quicktime before anything just to start with a clean slate, then reinstalled them from my ipod disk after the restart. then i downloaded all the updates from apple. my ipod has never worked better. good luck. theres no link to the page just search for ipod in windows help and support for exact text...

i am not a computer wiz...like our boys at apple i am asing a question and saying what i've tried, i dont understand why it works but, sweet, it worked for me and there must be a reason. it solved every problem i've posted in
,i would like to i would ike to know why i susspect uncompatible programs, from our faves, thats why i think tie discripition is humble, do you have to have multiple, random problems for this Microsoft fix to meet your ipod (formally) my ipod workked for a long time, amidst udates, and experimentation, i became a box topper for my unused tech...cords,cell phones, even a gameboy slept next to my 5th g there is not try theres only do, so someone do something and adrees my question, i'ts very detailed and if will help you i'll say i use the fast usb required, i deleated (claeared it all out before i even attempted to mess with the registry , i'd like mac user opinons, but what i'm really looking for is Windows XP users, Apple might fix this problem but i got a 30 gig the newest "obsolete" ipod there are many problems on pc that mac users may not have expieriencind, (because of different software?), so don't be quick to judge, i read a trusted support, i had nothing to lose, so i tried this registry edit and it was like a miracle fix...."

  • How to get my photo's from ipod classic to mac

I have been asking everywhere and find it ridiculous that I am not able to pull off my own photo's from my Ipod classic and get them back to Iphoto or Itunes!!  My hard drive on Mac book pro crashed and I lost all data but have it all saved on my ipod.

  • 10.8.1 Server and windows smb issues

Ever since upgrading to 10.8.1 server my windows clients now have issues copying to the share point on the server. "Network error, there is a problem accessing \\SERVER\WORK"
It's only with large file transfers 3GB and above. It also randomly shows the same warning when they are saving projects to the server occasionally and they have to manully reconnect.
Latest windows 7 64bit pro on all clients and latest mac os X on server.
The share point is an attached thunderbolt raid and has all permissions switched off, and is configured to RAID 0. This is backed up hourly by another drive.
Is there anyway of rolling back to lion? I no longer have a lion back up on my time machine.
    Anyone else having these issues?

Apple's SMB implentation is weak and buggy.  I feel like I'm back in 10.3 trying to talk to Windows servers.  Those were horrible days.
To Fix.. go to your Mac and check to make sure that it has the correct WINS settings (network, advanced, WINS).  Your server has to be on the same workgroup (domain) as your windows clients.  For some reason, the setting does not stick on your Mac and that setting gets lost.  And that is the bug...
To fix this (second part of your fix).. go ahead and turn off file sharing.  Then add your settings under WINS as stated above, then turn sharing back on and your networking from windows to mac will start to work fine.
Fun bugs... please call Apple about this, so they can follow up. My case number is 357016704

  • How to connect my 60gb IPOD and my Mac Mini

I have my trusty 60GB ipod (no video), with the older wide connector and the funny USB or whatever it is symbol looks like a "Y".
    Nice grammer huh.
ANyway the cable I have doesn't plug in to my mac mini or MBP.
What cable do I use to hook 'er up to ITUNES on either system?

    Open Quicktime Player
    File Menu: New Audio Recording....
However... if the headphone/microphone combination has two 3.5mm jack plugs (pink and green) then the microphone output (pink) is "mic.level" - which is TOO QUIET for the audio input on a Mac, which is expecting the much stronger "line.level" signal strength.
Solutions: get a microphone pre-amplifier between the mic and the Mac (not cheap); or a different microphone with a USB interface.

but i am wondering , how well does the ipod record notes ?
and anyone here in a band and tape their rehearsals ? was wondering how it sounds . thanks all !

after I watched them they dissappeared from my ipod,
Sounds like you have selected to only sync unwatched video content to your iPod.
This is a setting that you can change in your iTunes preferences.
