Photos on SD card missing after removing and inserting card without umount

Hi!
I am running Tiger 10.4.11 on my old Powerbook G4 12inch. I am hoping to get some help on an issue which resulted in some photos "disappearing" from an SD card. The story goes as follows:
On day 1 I plugged in the SD card using a USB card reader to my Powerbook. The SD card mounted correctly and I could see my photos (~100). I then closed the Powerbook without ejecting or umounting the SD card. The Powerbook went to sleep and I then unplugged the SD Card.
The next day I then went and took another ~30 photos with my camera using the same SD card. I could see that I had ~130 photos using my camera's built-in viewer.
I opened my Powerbook and it came out from sleep. I then inserted the SD card into the USD adapter again. The funny thing is that the Powerbook only showed the ~100 original photos still. I then tried to eject the SD card but MacOS showed an error saying that the volume is in use so can not be umounted. I then unplugged my SD card.
Following this I can no longer see the ~30 photos on my camera's display either. I have also tried various file recovery programs on Mac OS 10.4, 10.6 and Vista, none show the ~30 "missing" photos. I have also tried to look for any hidden files using terminal with "ls -al" in all the directories but with no luck. The trash can also is empty.
I am guessing that by not umounting the SD card and then inserting it again the OS was still using old FAT tables or something along those lines (speculating here). The question is, any chance of recovery or any other strategies you can suggest to help?

You may have been able to try and use Disk Utility to repair file damage on
the SD card's storage; but the actual damage due to improper unmounting
in the first instance is carried over to the last. So corruption of them is likely.
There may be some third party utility for helping restore or recover data
from these camera flash memory cards, that may help. Sometimes, it
may be possible to see if the OS X Disk Utility can try to fix the files, but
that may also change them or make them unrecoverable by another kind
of utility. While I don't have experience recovering lost or erased images
from camera memory cards, I do know such software utilities for just this
purpose do exist. Initially, a few years ago, I noticed a freeware utility was
offered as well as a few shareware downloads that would work, for a fee.
Maybe that is the direction to check into, and see if you can repair and
recover the images which were subject to damage or corruption due to
the improper unmounting and remounting of the SD. These items act
just like any external hard disk drive, and need to be handled the same.

I removed and after this i readded an virtual Network Card from an W2008 R2 Hyper-V virtual Machine.
After this RDP Connections from this VM to other Servers are working. But when i try to connect from an other machine to this VM over RDP i become the Error "The Computer cant connect to the Remote Computer" .
The W2008 R2 Server Firewall is disabled. The Remote Desktop Service is enabled.

Hi Michael,
1. Is the server listening on TCP 3389? You may check this in the VM by opening an administrator command prompt and entering the following:
netstat -ano
If yes, please verify using Task Manager that the process id listed is the TermServ service.
2. From within the VM, are you able to Remote Desktop to localhost? For the test, please use a different account than you logged on to the VM with.
3. Are you able to ping this VM from other servers/VMs?

Picks/Rejects dissappears after remove and reimport

I have a mayor issue.
My catalog has grown to inhuman size. =(
So I tried to remove (not delete) some of the pictures/folders. Where I have a lot of Picks/Rejects, star ratings bla bla bla.
So far so good.
The problem comes, when i Reimport the files - then there are no.. I mean NO Picks/Rejects, only the star-ratings comes back up... sometimes!
Today I tried this:
New machine.
New OS (snowleopard server)
New LR install
Reboot
New catalog
Force metadata save
Check off Autosave metadata to catalog
Update DNG Previews and Metadata, before, after, before and after.
So far NO luck!

Get around what? Since the title includes the text "remove and reimport", you should know that "remove and reimport" is almost always a bad idea. If you are going to keep a photo, I recommend you keep it in your Lightroom Library Module.
My companion puts a catalog with every shoot, but that will take forever for me! Is there another way, but the hard way? Don't know about 200k pics, but too much to smile about, just by thinking of them!

Can someone point me to a super workflow routine, so things like this don't reappear!?
Pronouns should have clear antecedents. I will guess that the word "this" in your sentence refers to the problem you had when you removed photos and reimported. I have already explained, don't reimport ... it is never a good idea. My workflow is very simple, and causes me no problems whatsoever. 1) The photos are Imported into Lightroom from the camera card to a folder named by the photo capture date. 2) I religiously apply keywords and captions to my photos; I make collections as needed. 3) I edit my photos in the Lightroom Develop module, and I only use other editors if absolutely necessary. That's it; that's the entire workflow. I never remove and reimport. I never move my photos from one folder to another. It doesn't get any simpler than that, and it works well for me.

Macbook Pro won't start up after removing and putting back battery

One week ago I spilled two drops (literally) of water on the drag pad of my MacBook Pro (model A1278). Some of this water went down the top edge of the drag pad. Since this happened, the cursor as either not been been responding at all to my drag pad, or it has been behaving very eratically, as well as this, over the last couple of months since buying this MacBook, there has been an abnormal amount of dust in the air in the house due to some building work going on here. This being so, I decided to follow a video tutorial in you tube on how to remove and clean the drag pad. This involved getting access to the laptop by unscrewing the back, unscrewing and disconnecting the battery, then unscrewing and disconnecting the drag pad, so this it could be handled and cleaned. I followed the video to the letter, taking great care. I cleaned the drag pad as instructed, and replaced it. I did the same thing with the battery. All screws and the two simple 'plug in' connections for both the drag pad and battery have been replaced smoothly and exactly as I found them. but after putting the back panel on the MacBook, it will not turn on. It will not power up, either by the battery alone, or by using the mains power lead. There is a green light showing on the power lead input, but it is nowhere near as bright as it usually is. So I have gone from having a poorly functioning drag pad, to now having a MacBook Pro which won't even turn on! I have no idea what has happened. Please can anyone help? Thanks.

Photo Booth app still missing after restore!

I have an IPad and the Photo Booth app is missing completely. It's not in spotlight, nothing is restricted and even tried a full restore and still nothing...... Any assistance would be great!

I do have a camera on the front, so what accesses that function? I thought that's where photo bohoth would come into play? Also is FaceTime only on the 2nd gen as well, because that app is not appearing?

How can I use Ipad to view and delete photos from SD card without importing?

Importantly I would like to view the photos from the SD card in full screen (vs. just a thumbnail) before deciding whether to delete.
It seem's that with the camera connection kit you can only view them as thumbnails before importing.
Any other apps or hardware I could consider?
Basically I would like to use the Ipad as my travel photo editing tool - specifically I want to be able to delete unwanted photos from my SD card without having to actually import them into the Ipad (but would like to be able to benefit from quality of ipad screen to actually review the photos before deleting).

You must import if you want the iPad to have a file to display on the screen.

Applescript and insert names without extension (Mail)

Hi,
my script does the following when i drop a video file on this app:
1. transcode it to ogg
2. copy the name and insert it in a newly created mail in the Subject and Message with "NameOfFile"
It is nearly perfect but it copies the file extension in the new mail, too.
How do i get the app to insert only the name without the Extension??

There are a couple of points in your original script that should be addressed.
One you are dropping files on the script and sending them out as mail messages but because you are setting the filename before you actually loop through the dropped files all mail messages will have the same filename. You should move
tell application "Finder"

          end tell
Inside the repeat to get the actual filename in each mail message.
Then this
if videoname contains "." then
             set oldDelims to AppleScript's text item delimiters
             set AppleScript's text item delimiters to {"."}

             set AppleScript's text item delimiters to oldDelims

While it works is defeating the whole point of setting the text item delimiter.
Once you do
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to {"."}
then text item 1 of videoname is the filename and text item 2 is the extension ie:
set videooutput to text item 1 of videoname
will get the name of the file into videooutput
In fact you could just use videooutput as the name in the mail message.

Airport Extreme Card missing after Leopard and Login & Keychain Update

After these updates the network prefs showed no Airport card installed, even though it had been there seconds earlier. This was buried at the bottom of a posting for a similar problem. Just wanted to make it easier for others to find.

Judging by the amount of posts it must be isolated. Mine works fine. Did you repair permissions ?

If after installing Leopard as an upgrade or archive and install you experience any issues with not getting mail, can't run Disk Utility, can't login as administrator, can't print or anything that entering existing User name and/or passwords requires, you are not alone and Apple is working on it now.
The fastest method of determining if you have been bitten by this, open System Preferences, click on Accounts and verify that you are the Administrator as opposed to Standard, and that the checkbox asking if you want this user to be an Administrator is checked. If you are Standard, and the box is unchecked and/or greyed out, you have a situation most likely, whether you know it or not, yet.
Further verification can be done in the Accounts window by clicking the lock to make changes, entering your name and password and being denied access.
Apple says the best thing to do right now is not to try too much voodoo and wait until later today for a solution, hopefully. I was told to close the lid and walk away until Apple calls me back.
The good news as I write this on my old reliable Pismo, is that I have a bootable Carbon Copy Cloned 10.4.10 complete back up on an OWC external FW disc. Thanks Mr. Bombich! I just hope I don't have to use it.

Library folder missing after removing a small disc from the disc drive.

Recently, one of my relatives accidentally put a disc inside our iMac disc drive that was too small. We didn't know what to do, so we called one of our neighbors. He read instructions online and was able to remove the disc without harm done to anything in and on the iMac. The system rebooted, and everything had looked back to normal. Once I used the iMac again, I saw that I had no ability to change desktop images. Everything was a grey rectangle with a question mark in it. I had no idea why. On to another subject. One of my sons loves to play a game called Minecraft. After the reboot, he noticed that wouldn't work either. He figured out the the main .jar file was located in Library>Application Support>Minecraft. We then figured out our Library folder was missing. I have no idea how to get it back, or what to do. Please help me ASAP. Also, this happened BEFORE the OS X Lion update, which we now have.

sorry it's 2:30am and I just lost 2-3 days work.crashing after this note.
I had backups and reloaded from 3-days back on a seperate drive _ 'files'
this was created after the crash when I tried to restart lightroom..this is in root of OS disk I was using a seperate drive. named 'photos2'
this drive filled up on import and lightroom crashed on rendering previews 666gi of usable space
should be 45+ gigs available trying to delete files..something went wrong..when lightroom crashed!
I will not try and build a single catalog master system for 250000 plus photos, I lost the 60000 new images added to catelog..and last few days cleaning, filing and rating..harsh way to loose a weekend!
the program possibly filled the drive and corrupted a sector of disk some how??..my best synopsis at this time.
I'm at a loss and just wanted to report my experiance, I know finalcut had a preffence to not fill a disk past a certin point in this case 4.5 gigs seems to be the last sector..I'll check LR
Check back tomorrow.. I'm going down a looser..thanks for your help!..let you know if cocktail fixes anything.

DNS: reverse zone comes back after remove and some follow up issues

hello community,
after installation of OSL i had setup dns with a primary zone.
the automatically created reverse zone for my internal network is fine.
whenever i enter a new system the default for the ip address is 10.0.0.1 and the reverse zone is automatically setup for this ip address.
whenever i remove this reverse zone it come back automatically after saving the dns configuration.
with this come some follow up error.
server admin claim that there is no name server configured for this reverse zone.
when i configure it the configured name server entry vanished after clicking the save button.
when i try to configure settings i can not. i get the error message that the configuration can not be saved cause of the missing name server for the reverse zone i am not using ....
in the log file i can see that the file for reverse zone can not be found.
when i check the dns configuration in the shell i can see that the reverse zone file is not there.
someone has an idea
- whats the best way to fix this?
- why is the gui still showing the reverse zone i am not using?
- is the dns configuration also in the ldap db with wrong entries?

Clean out your zone definitions, and start over. Server Admin is unfortunately seemingly fussy around the authoritative server stuff and the order stuff gets entered, and it seems you can get into a sequence where it doesn't have what it needs. I had encountered couple of cases when I was in a similar state as you're in now, and I ended up clearing and deleting the primary zone and re-adding the zone and the hosts, being careful to add the authoritative server as the first step of adding a zone.

C110 Workstsation won't power up after removing and reinseting chasis.

I have a C110(HP9000) workstation. I had been running the system and shut it down to check the display card in the 3rd slot. I removed the chasis and removed the display card. I replaced the display card and slid the chasis back in. I put the power cord back in and hit the button on the fron panel to turn on the system. Nothing happens. None of the lights on the front panel come on and no fans nothing. I removed the power coard and tried replacing the battery(which was dead) and put the chasis back in and tried again, still now power, to anything. I had another spare power supply for that unit, i replace it and still the same nothing. Is there a reset or something in the power supply itself which can be reset? Is there anything that needs to be done after taking out the chasis and putting it back in that I did not see in the manuals? Any help would be greatly apprediated.

Voicemail not working - after removing and adding Dialplan

I had a UM dial plan configured and it was working properly. I removed that plan and added a new one. The new one does not work.
When ever you leave a Voice-mail for a user, they never get it. If the user logs in, they still have access to old voice-mails that were left before the UM dial plan was deleted and a new one created.
My assumption is that when you activate the user for UM, it is attaching back to the existing information, instead of using the new dial plan. Anyone have any thoughts on how to stop this?
Is there a way I can just purge all UM information and start over?

I did, as far as I can tell the new dial plan is working.
Currently, only I am enabled for UM in the environment. If you call my extension, you are able to leave a VM. I never get a missed call notification or the Voicemail. If I manually log into my Voicemail, I have no new voicemail and only
old ones that were left before this new UM plan was created.
I did remove UM from my account and re-add it with the new one, that did not solve the problem.
Where are the VM that are being left now going, if not into my mailbox.
Does deleting a UM remove any associated voicemails? Should it?
Do you know if there is a way for me to reset my mailbox, to fully remove the UM capabilities and then start over?

Render files missing-after duplication and also after moving

I have to replace a drive, which is still working well, so i went ahead and tried to move libraries with all its content (Events,projects,reneder files), which doesnt exist as an option... as far as i was able to figure this out....
then i went ahead to move events, where as one in 5 was movable the others would only have copy as an option.
which strikes me as oddity already...
after this was done i compared the content of libraries between the 2 drives, and was in shock.
the render files were all missing, needless to state here, that i wil NOT re-render weeks of work again...LOL
so i went and googled this, and came to thousands of answers on how to move or copy events to a different location , but always on the same HD.
there was absolutely nothing about moving Libraries with the Events and Projects and render Files all together explained ,.... ANYWHERE!
is there anyone out there who knows how to do this, so the render files actually move over to a new HD and ,...of course,...are reconnected there propperly and usable?
manually moving these render folders will NOT reconnect them to the projects,.... just as a FYI ...
why is there no instructions in the FCPX help menu on moving " Everything "..??
but thousands of article on how to move only parts and pieces .....

using disk utility to do a clone of the old drive to a brandnew drive... would this have done the trick?
you know the restore to destination trick....
or would have these renderd files still not connect since the drive might have a unique manufacturer id number...
yes ...the new drive would have been called the very same as the old drive...
the old drive has a clicking noice so seagate replaced it...
and i am in a challenge to move all stuff over now...to the new drive...

Boot_archive missing after update and incredibly old school computing

I have to write down a couple of lines in frustration over solaris 10. This is the first time I try Unix, and after playing around with lots of trials and errors, I decided to reinstall the OS in order to make things work smoothly. And it did. At least the install! I thought it would a good idea to update everything after the installation was complete. What a mistake! The update-manager suggested I should reboot after the update, and so I did. Unfortunately something happened with the boot_archive because it went missing, and I was sent into an eternal panic-reboot cycle. I suspect this to be a root mirror boot problem, even though I actually have no clue what this really means. Did my mirror die? Is this really related to the update? I should mention I'm running Solaris 10 in VMWare. Maybe this could be the cause for my misfortune? I would consider it a heavy blow on the side of Sun if people have reason to fear their systems malfunctioning after an update.
And what's the deal with the text console? it completely lacks the convenience you find in most other terminals. Is this the only one shipped with Solaris? I'm using a Norwegian keyboard, and I couldn't find any option for this charset under the installation process, which makes any computing outside of X really really hard.
And is vi and edit the only editors in? I was hoping there was something similar to pico or nano. Try picture me figuring out vi with a keyboard with a wrong charset! Actually it was quite funny.
It would be great if someone could provide me with some answers.

in case you have the software inventory enabled (this is the global setting) The device should send it to the zlm server.
zcc / configuration / zmd settings
software-inventory-enabled = true
Check on the client side the setting with
# rug get software-inventory-enabled
I think when it stucks in the installation process, it will not send the information because that must finish before. So if we have solved the other problem, you should get the inventory as well.
