Photos overwritten in photostream?

Hi all.
I noticed that some pictures seemed to dissapear in photostream, just after i resetted my ios devices, and started to use them all against the same photostream.
But since i havent taken the same amount of photos on all devices i cant check this now.
Does anyone know how the photostream works, when 3 devices wants to save the same photo.. IMG_0001.JPG to the stream.
Does it overwrite it and show the last version?
Question no 2.
Is there any way to rename the index name IMG_ to something else? for example IP1_  IP2_  IP3_

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

  • Only some photos go to photostream

Only some photos I take on my iphone end up in my photostream album. I have not updated to iOS8 yet. Please note, the problem here is with photos not going into photostream on the device they were taken on (in my case an iphone 4s) NOT with syncing between devices. I have tried all standard troubleshooting -  closed the camera app, settings for photostream and icloud are on, wifi connected, more than 20% battery, signed out and back into icloud account, turned phone off and back on. It seems very random which photos go to photostream and which do not. I took three photos within 30 seconds of each other and the second one went to photostream, the first and third did not. I have looked and looked over the forum discussions here and have yet to find a fix. My husband has the same problem with his phone and a different icloud account. Sometimes photos make it, other times they don't and this includes photos taken within minutes of each other. Now that Google Play exists, photostream is (was) the only thing keeping me from going Android. Anyone have this problem and found a true fix?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
All photos taken on the phone go to the camera roll. If photostream is enabled they should also go to photostream in addition to photos added from other devices. Photos added to photostream from other devices will not be added to the camera roll on your phone (unless you move them manually.
Photos taken on the phone should be added to camera roll immediately, it may take a few moments before they appear in photostream, while they are sent from the camera roll to the cloud and back again to photostream.
If photos aren't being added to photostream there may be a couple of reasons:
Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.
Photostream only syncs when the camera app is closed, ensure it is closed.
Photostream only syncs when the battery is above 20%, try recharging the device
    If the problem persists:
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.
If this doesn't help you may need to reset photo stream. You can do this at icloud.com by clicking on your name in the top right corner and then the advanced settings in the pop-up dialogue box that appears.
Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.

  • Updated to iOS6, a week later, photos disappeared and photostream/iPhoto stopped syncing.

I updated my 4s to iOS 6, and my photos were fine.  A week later, and my photos have disappeared, though the album names are there.  (I don't have access to a PC, so I can't use the iExplorer trick to find the photo files.)
All of my photos exist on my photostream on my iPad, but the photostream is not syncing on my iPhone.  (Yes, the photostream is turned on on both devices.)
In addition, many of the photos were backed up with iPhoto, and iTunes says 44 of them shoudl be synced with my phone--but they are not syncing either.
My OS is not up to date on my Mac (I know, I know, but I deleted the app store and am too lazy to update) so I can't access my photostream on my computer.
I created a "shared" photostream with every photo from my photostream, and only 40 of 1000 photos (the one taken by my iPad rather than my iPhone)  have appeared on my iphone in this shared photostream.
    Questions:
    1.  How do I access the photo files on my iphone, given I don't have a PC? Or is a shared photostream the best option?
    2.  How do I get my photostream to sync with my iPhone, despite the fact that my phone and iPad settings say it should already be syncing?

Try deleting what is called the iPod Photo Cache.

  • I've got someone else's photos on my photostream

My photostream has disappeared and I now have someone else's photos in my photostream. How do I get rid of them and get my photos back.
I Haven't updated my software or lost any of my apple devices so I don't know why this is happening.

No I don't share my Apple ID or iTunes account, the photos aren't local either. I've now changed my apple password so I think that'll stop it but now all my photos are gone, I assume on someone else's photostream?

  • How do I delete photos from the photostream on Iphoto?

My photostream on Iphoto won't let me delete pictures. I have already deleted the photos from the photostream on my iphone and even deleted the photos from the Iphoto library. Those photos still show up on the photostream, and I really want them gpne. I have already tried reading what the Help section says but it was no help to me...none of the options they gave were available. Help please!

This doesn't work when you Control (right) - click on photos in your Photo Stream window in iPhoto?

I accidentally deleated a photo from my photostream, how do I put it back

Deleting a photo in the photo stream group deletes it from the photo stream servers. The photo should still be in the camera roll.  If there, sync it to a computer using itunes, then put it back in the stream from the computer.

  • HT4623 when I downloaded ios7 all the photos in my photostream disappeared. How do I get them back??? This is AWFUL!

When I downloaded ios7 on my ipad2 today it deleted all the photos in my Photostream. NOT GOOD! This is AWFUL! Please tell me how to get them back!!! ASAP please! Thanks!

Sign out of iCloud on the affected device
    Then sign in again
Confusingly this option is called "delete account"
It doesn't actually delete the account, merely removes the iCloud data on the device in question.
Of course when you sign in again it forces it to get the iCloud data once more - photos included
    It worked for me anyhow

In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.

In the days of Mobile me I was able to share my photos with people by simply giving them a link to my online photos.  With Photostream this appears to be impossible? Is this so?

No that's not possible with iCloud, however there are ways of sharing photos, but first could you confirm your OS, iCloud doesn't work with OS X 10.4

Sounds like a verification issue on whatever marketplace you bought PS Touch from. Did you try contacting Google or Apple to see what they say?

  • Both Ipod Touch and Macbook Pro Stolen, how do I get the photos in my photostream back at least?

My house was burglarized yesterday and I lost my Macbook Pro and my 3rd gen iPod touch with many photos and videos on it. I did have the photostream turned on but the computer that it was linked to was stolen. I want to get these photos back if possible but since iCloud doesn't seem to act like an actual cloud service I can't seem to find a way to do that.
Can I set it up on another computer and get the last 100 photos I took without the IOS device?

Photo stream still stores you photos from the last 30 days (up to a max of 1,000), so all you need to do is connect to icloud with some device/computer, turn on photo stream and voila.

  • Upgraded OS: How Can I Get iCloud Photo Library or Photostream to Sync to a Dedicated Mac Folder?

I'm totally frustrated and confused even after Googling. Hopefully someone can help me understand what it is Apple wants me to do.
As of yesterday, when I took a photo or uploaded a photo to any of my devices, it would transmit via Photostream to all my other Apple devices (iPad, another iPhone, Windows PC, and MBP).
Now I found it infinitely frustrating that while the photos would neatly deposit themselves in a specific Photostream folder on each device, even my PC has a dedicated Photostream folder provided by Apple's iCloud app for PC, there was no such folder or provision for Macs!
In order to access my Photostream on my MBP, I either had to open Aperture or iPhoto, or go to iCloud.com and then import the photo.
I upgraded to iOS8 on my primary phone to finally to take advantage of iCloud Photo Library and have the photos sent directly to my Mac's (running Yose) iCloud Drive folder --- or so I thought. Not only do I not get photos on my Mac's iCloud Drive Folder, it seems to have broken the link between my other devices!
To add injury to insult, my Phone sent me a "Could not back up - iCloud Storage almost full" message. Considering I had 2GB of iCloud storage available, I was shocked to read the fine print on iCloud Photo Library ... it uses your iCloud's storage, unlike Photostream which is totally free.
Is there any way or program anyone has found to deliver a seamless and intelligent Photostream folder on a Mac that behaves seamlessly and intelligently as it does with Apple's PC iCloud App and iOS native Photostream?

That's correct but your 10.6.8 machine has no way to put it there unless you manually enter it on the website.
That to sync data from iCal and Address Book in Snow Leopard to the iCloud server you must manually register and connect to the iCloud.com website which I have done.
You can't sync from Address Book or iCal in Snow Leopard.

The syncing to the same data in Mountain Lion is done via the System Preferences > iCloud, which I have done.
Supposedly that means the data on the iCloud server is then shared between the iPod Touch, SL and ML, but it is not.
Because data entered on the SL machine never makes it from iCal or AB to iCloud or from iCloud to AB or iCal, the link breaks there.. You can use a 3rd party app (Soho) and use it instead of AB and iCal.
But the problem exists on ML as well.
I get only some Contacts and iCal events transferring.
What you are seeing is probably from SL account which I use 95% of the time. Particularly my Address Book entries. I hardly entered any of those in ML, they virtually all come from SL and seem to have transferred previously. Possibly before the latest iOS updates, but I can't swear to that as I didn't check before/after.
The vast majority of my Address Book entries appear in both iCloud.com and my iPod Touch, but not my latest changes.
This is far from the "It just happens!" promised by Apple.

  • I deleted photos from my Iphone5 using the 'internal storage' in windows with the phone plugged in. Why are all the photos still in photostream when they don't show up as a file in windows anymore?

    Hi all,
I plugged in my phone, went to my computer, iphone, storage, and deleted photos from there. But in my phones photostream, they are still there. Why is that?

    Hi Isaacprobert,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you still have photos in Photostream. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
