Photos! please help!

so i just got a new 5th generation ipod. i have both a pc and a ibook..
all my photos are on my pc, but i want my ipod to be a mac ipod. my ibook has very little space on it, though.
i was thinking of putting all my pictures on a zip drive and plugging it into my ibook. i wouldnt put any of the pictures on my laptop, i was just going to put them directly on my ipod
my question is:
can i do this? or do i have to have the pictures actually on the laptop.
thanks sooo much for your help!
5th generation ipod (with video) 30g   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

As Chris says, you would have to restore the iPod in Windows/format it for Windows. Then it will work with both Windows and Mac OS X.
There is no way to have the iPod work with both Operating Systems if it is formatted for mac (There are some 3rd party applications, but it would be best to leave it formatted for Windows).

    Hi Beharley,
try resetting your network settings: Settings - General - Reset - Reset Network Settings. This works fine if something is messed up with your carrier bundle.

I'm not sure, but I know it's not recommended to upgrade to iOS 8 on anything older than an iPhone 5. I only lost my music playlists and music that was on my phone, but that music is also on my iTunes, not the playlists though, and I don't want to go through ALL my iTunes library to fix it either... But it seems I don't have a choice right now.
Whatever you do, do NOT upgrade to iCloud Drive, keep iCloud till OS X Yosemite comes out, if your computer is a Mac. I also just noticed that all my documents on my phone are gone from Pages, BUT if I go on the iCloud website they are still there. Hopefully it will all work itself out when I can update my macbook pro to OS X Yosemite.
If you backed up your phone and all your purchases off your iPhone prior to trying to upgrade you should be fine... But I'm not even remotely sure.

If you Restore using last computer you synced to the password will be removed and you can restore the last backup on your computer, which includes your camera roll.
If you enabled Photo Stream in iCloud your photos are in Photo Stream.
If you had installed one of the many apps that can upload photos to a photo sharing site and had used it you will have your photos.
If you have done none of these things you are out of luck. The phone comes with many tools to preserve content, but you have to use them.

  • I might have messed up my files and now have the big exclamation mark on a lot (but not all of my iphotos) My document folder was full of photos and I tried to organize it by putting it into a separate folder but now I can't see my photos :-( please help?

Hi there, I have the same problem as I've read on some of the questions posted although the answers hasn't been much help to me with regards to the big exclamation mark on iphotos when I try to open my photos.  For some reason my photo files was stored in my document folder and you can imagine how that must have looked, very unorganized.  When I tried to move the photos from there to another file that is just for my photos.  Now I can't open them in iphotos and although I tried to undo my mistake it still doesn't want to work.. is there any way I can find all the images on my computer and fix my problem by storing them somewhere else without damaging the files?
Please help me find all my photos as I would be shattered if I were to loose any...
    Thank you.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • My friend wanted to get some of the music off my itunes. when syncing it needed to udate her phone which it did - now all her photos are gone. and the last back up was from when she used my itunes 6  ago. How can we get back her photos :(Please help

My friend wanted to get some music off my itunes - when syncing it it said she had to update her phone software first - which it did. Now all her photos are gone. When we tried to restore the last back up - the only one was from when she used my itunes 6 months ago which was from her old iphone. So now it has put all her photos from her old phone onto her new iphone and deleted all the new ones. We cannot find her new photos. Please help and there was 100 new pics. Is there any way we can get them back. I already have the program Asoftech - but it doesnt seem to register the iphone only C and D drive. Please help!

This is called "stealing". You do not have the legal right to give her the music you have in your iTunes library unless you are the copyright holder.
when syncing it it said she had to update her phone software first
That's not quite what it said.  Someone should have paid more attention to the great big warning about the possibility of losing data if the phone wasn't backed up.

It restored the backup that was made on your computer 6 months ago, which did not contain those photos. You're wasting your time trying to find them on the phone. They don't exist.
Hopefully, your friend syncs her phone to her own computer on a regular basis. She needs to plug her phone into her computer and restore it from her last backup. That will restore it to the state it was in when the backup was made.
She also needs to get in the habit of extracting the photos on a regular basis, like she would from any other digital camera.

  • Videos, Photos - Please Help!

    Hi All,
I've recorded some video, which I've included in my Project. I now want to mix photo's with the video. The video already has audio on it - so the idea is:
    a) Video of me speaking
    b) An image from a photo from iPhoto.
All the while the photo is displayed, my audio from the video is talking over the image. When the duration of the clip ends - the image is returned to me speaking.
Basically overlaying an image over a video whilst preserving the audio.
I managed to do this once! But now I can't do it again What I'm doing is dragging photos over to the project timeline - just like titles.
The problem is: When playing back the video - the photos aren't being displayed!
Can anyone please help ? This is for a presentation that I'm putting together for my Thesis.
    Regards,
    Christian.

Basically you are limited to one (and only one) photo being overlayed to a segment of video (with complete control). So the first thing you probably want to do is split the the video into individual segments where the number of segments is at least the same as the number of photos you wish to "cut" to while you are talking. (I.e., expand the project clip and scrub through it to locate each point where you wish to "split" the main video and then select the split option.) Next, simply drop each photo to the segment where you want it displayed and adjust the in and out points where you want the photo to transition in over the video and back out to the video by simply dragging the left and right edges of the "blue" area representing the dropped photo display duration. Then repeat this as many times as needed.

  • IPhone photos - please help

I have connected my iPhone to my laptop and I just want to copy the photos from my phone to My Pictures on my laptop. When I click on My Computer the iPhone is not showing up as a camera as I thought I would be able to copy them this way.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

I'm having the exact same problem.
At one time, i created an album in iPhoto, "upload to iphone", and synced that album to my iPhone.
Additionally, there is the "Camera Roll" album containing 900+ photos i had taken with my iPhone. (I generally don't check the option in iPhoto to remove photos from the iPhone after importing ... just in case.)
I wanted to remove all photos from my iPhone (for the first time since i got it!), and i was quite surprised to learn that it is a major operation.
First, although not specifically asked about in this post, some of you may find this helpful:
To clear the contents of the iPhone's "Camera Roll", open Image Capture and select your iPhone. Then, select all the photos on the list (or the multiple photos you want) and click the "Delete" icon at the bottom of the screen.
Next, i wanted to remove my "upload to iphone" album, but when i go to the Photos tab in iTunes during the Sync process, no albums are checked; in fact, the "Sync Photos from..." line isn't checked at all.
I have tried checking the box, checking the "upload to iphone" album, emptying the contents of that album in iPhoto, and syncing the empty album to the iPhone ... but the photos remain. And, for some reason, i cannot even delete them individually on the iPhone directly because there is not a Trash icon in the bottom right of each photo as there should be!
    Please help...

  • HT1766 I have restored my iphone instead of backing it up and have lost lots of photos, please help?

    Hi,
I have connected my phone to itunes and restored it instead of backing it up. I have lost about a years worth of photos.
My apps and notes are still there though.
please can anyone help me to recover my lost photos?
    Thanks

    Hey
To answer your question, a restore deletes everything of your iphone/ipod/ipad. Unless you have your photos on your comupter or a memory stick then sorry but you have lost them. Make sure that you back up ur iphone in the future regularly so that you dont lose ur stuff.
    Hope it helps Peter

  • Recovering missing photos-PLEASE HELP

Im desperately trying to find missing photos. Finder locates parts of the missing files when given the album names: (data, albums which contain only aliases), nothing that can be opened up as an image: says cant find the original.
I've posted another question relating to this which contains more details of my delima.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3277048#3277048
I'm learnning a huge lesson the hard way, and I know you can all relate with the emotional loss of photos containing precious images of the history of yours and your families' life. I'm just sick over it.
    Please someone help me!
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

My original "claim" of "lost" photos was because one morning I awoke, to continue working on an iPhoto project, to be informed, that iPhoto couldn't find my library. I located my library folder, created a duplicate and named it library.old. I attempted under the guidance of Apple phone support, to drag the entire library folder back into iPhoto. Didn't work, so begain draging folders one by one back into iPhoto. This, was determined to be the only recourse. It was time consuming, but seemed to be going quite well. The new library seemed just fine, when I would do spot checks, on its viability and functionallity.
A week later I awoke to continue the reconstruction project and was once again notified that iPhoto could not find my library...it was empty.
This is when I really begain loosing any semblance of standardization. I just simply lost faith... got scared (freaken paranoid is more like it), and started getting a little lost.
Thank you for the wake up message. I know now that the photos really aren't "lost". Still don't know why my library got lost twice though. I've created a lot of mess that I've got to clean up...and I will! At this point I figure I just need to update my 2.0.1 version with the new iLife, get an external drive for backup and to free up my main drives memory...and then clean house. I'm considering eventually reinstalling the system and getting rid of the partitiones on my hard drive. To extreme?
Regardless I'm learning a lot ...mostly what not to do it seems!

My iPhone 4s keeps automatically deleting photos under camera roll every 24 hours and it wont back them up on my iCloud. Is there anything I have done wrong or how can I stop this from happening, please help

    Hi metsrule6349 ,
    Hope you have the manuals
First we try to get it on the air like this:
Connect the router and the modem with an ethernet cable.
Turn the Motorola on, leave the linksys off. Log in with the
computer on your Motorola modem and type it's ip access:
http://192.168.100.1 (check the manual) If the ip access of
your Motorola modem is http//192.168.100.xxx then
we need to ask help from Ralph. Any other number is fine.
Now we switch the Lynksys on Log in to the Linksys with:
http://192.168.0.224 (check the manual) and it's ip address
should now be the same as your modem. If not, ask Ralph if
he can help you. Leave everything in default and just check
    wether UPnP iis enabled.
Ready to go online! Let the Mac's network assistant walk you through
    the Mac's config.
    JP
I presumed your Motorola was a Surfboard streaming modem.
(We can test that by looking if the Linksys gets the same ip address)
If this is correct we need to check wether the linksys has NPnP
    enabled if so that's all

  • IPhoto possibly lost photos please help

    Hello.
This is a somewhat long story that I will attempt to condense:
My friend recently updated iPhoto to the latest '11 version -- the friend's running the latest version of Mac OSX, while I'm running Snow Leopard.
Upon reading the stories of iPhoto 11 upgrading iPhoto libraries and accidentally deleting them, I told my friend that it would be best to backup the photos---6000 of them. I have the "bright" idea of going into the Master's folder in the iPhoto library package contents, and copy/pasting that folder to the desktop. My friend accidentally MOVES the folder, cancels the dialogue box/loading bar, tries copying the folder to the desktop, cancels 5 dialogue boxes (clicks the grey x) and the 5 boxes are in infinite load mode. After several hours, the dialogues disappear, leaving a Master folder in the proper position, and a Master folder on the desktop. NEITHER HAS THE PHOTOS IN THEM.
Searching for the original photos in spotlight, it seems that the pictures exist, but not all of them. I fear that a folder was deleted or lost in the whole ordeal. These photos are EXTREMELY important. I predict that maybe they'll show up in the trashbin under recovered files once the computer is turned off and on again, but I am curious if the photos can be recovered differently. I can't risk anything. I realize that what I attempted to do was very risky and silly, but I would appreciate it immensely if someone could helo in some way. We are going to take the computer to a tech store for some help too. Thank you.
EDIT: For the future, what is the best way to backup the iPhoto library's original photos? (Not the library, but the actual files. This whole mess is the result of my lack of knowledge about the new operating system. I have an "Originals" folder with the photos that can be copied/pasted. My friend has something different.)

I wish I had known that the upgrade wouldn't have caused data loss. It would have saved my friend from this ordeal.
Anyway, my instructions to my friend were to go into the package contents of the iPhoto library and copy the masters folder to the desktop.
Unfortunately, my friend accidentally MOVED the folder, then cancelled the move, then copied the masters folder to the desktop, then copied each of the 2011, 2012, 2013 folders to the desktop. Then all four processes were cancelled, hence the multiple dialogue boxes. Now there are no pictures in any of the masters folders, on the desktop, or in the iPhoto library. I hope that repairing permissions would help. I don't think that anything should have been LOST in this process.
EDIT: Teamviewer yes! I asked my friend to use that but it wasn't downloaded. I wanted to use teamviewer but in the moment it just wasn't available. From now on, I have to make sure that I use teamviewer when giving such complicated instructions. The problem is that I cannot see what is going on in my friend's computer, so I'm guessing based on the information given to me.
All I know is that most of the photos still exist as evidenced from a quick spotlight search. SOME may be missing or be in the netherworld.
EDIT 2: No backups exist I'm afraid. I was trying to figure how to backup the library in case the iPhoto '11 upgrade failed somehow. I should have just had my friend copy and paste the iPhoto library, not the masters folder. The process works well in Mac OSX Snow Leopard, but apparently, not in Mac OSX Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • Iphoto closing unexpectedly when "loading photo"-- please help

When I click to open iphoto, the application itself begins to load, but in the process of "loading photos" it freezes, shuts itself down, and then a message appears stating that iphoto closed unexpectedly giving me options to report, relaunch, and ignore.
I have removed all my photos to an external hard drive, guessing that I might have too any images. However the problem persists.
Any suggestion??? Iphoto is one my most used applications and i really miss it working. I appreciate any help!

I'm sorry to tell you that your problems aren't over.
but creating a new user did!
This is not a solution, but a test. As I said above:
see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
So now we really need to find out what's causing the problem in the main account.
But that's just another problem because of this:
I moved all the jpeg files out of the iphoto library folder onto an external hard drive and then deleted the pictures out of the library folder.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
You've wrecked your library. Do you want to fix it and iPhoto in the main account? Post back if you do.
    Regards
    TD
