Photos rotate when sync'd to Apple TV

Has anyone had this problem? When I sync'd my photos (from my Windows hard drive) to Apple TV via iTunes, all pictures that I had rotated to a North-South orientation reverted to East-West. I have no idea how to fix this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Are you using Windows Fax Viewer in order to do the rotation? If so it might just be something that was saved in your explorer windows settings and not the image itself. If you open the image in any other program in windows does it show the changes you applied i.e. north south vs east west. Try to open them in another image program make the change and then save and see if this helps

I had the same thing happen to me.  It's a bug in iPhoto 9.4.2.
The first time you run iPhoto after upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2, it "updates the iPhoto library".  This sometimes tickles a bug where iTunes can see all your iPhoto albums, but iTunes thinks they are empty.  Since iTunes thinks all your albums are empty, it dutifully deletes any photos from your synced iOS devices.
It's easy to tell if this is the problem you are seeing.  Open iTunes and go to the photos sync panel for one of your iOS devices.  If you have multiple albums checked, but iTunes shows a total of 0 photos, then you have the problem.
I spent an hour with an Apple Genius.  he couldn't find any mention of this problem in their internal support system.  His recomendation was to reinstall the operating the system.  I suspect that this won't solve it.
The only solution I have found is to restore iPhoto 9.4.1 and the corresponding iPhoto library from your backups.
I would refrain from upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2 until Apple has a fix for this issue.

  • TS3697 My new iTunes does not show me a PHOTOS tab when syncing my iPad 3. It only shows Music, Films and Apps tabs on the top left menu.

My new iTunes does not show me a PHOTOS tab when syncing my iPad 3. It only shows Music, Films and Apps tabs on the top left menu.
What am I going to do?

The Photos tab doesn't appear there. If you are on iTunes 11 on your computer then you may want to re-enable the left-hand sidebar via View > Show Sidebar (option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), which might make it easier to navigate and my instructions may make more sense.
To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes (if you've enabled the sidebar), and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos e.g. :
If you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.
If you haven't enabled the sidebar, then from your library click 'iPad' at the top right of the screen and you should get a series of buttons along the top of the screen, including one for Photos

  • Why are the photos rotated when transfered from iPhone to PC??

I cant figure out why my photos, taken with my iPhone, come out rotated when I transfer them to my PC. Its not the biggest deal in the world, but it is really getting to me... Just one of those things i cant figure out how to fix... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A really easy fix in Windows XP, which I think will work fine in Vista if you can get to the right place. Open File Manager (my computer) and go to the folder with the photos, choose the thumbnail view, select and right click on photo files that are rotated sideways, you will see a rotate option on the right click menu - select it and the photos will rotate & sync correctly next time with a slight letterbox effect on your iphone. You may want to copy the folder first as the rotated photos will be clipped if you view them full screen on the PC.

  • Why don't my photos rotate when I turn the device?

My screen view does not rotate when I turn my iPhone to the landscape position. Is there a setting that I've locked to prevent the landscape view, or is there a malfunction in the device?

  • Spinning wheel in Photos tab when syncing iPhone or iPad with iTunes

I can't be certain when this started, but when I attempt to sync both my iPad and iPhone photos through iTunes, I'm not presented with any options, just a spinning wheel that never finishes loading. I've looked in multiple discussions with similar problems but none of the solutions seem to help. So far, I've tried:
    Different USB cable.
Creating new "dummy" libraries in both Aperture and iPhoto (local disks, not on network disks).
    Rebooting
    Restarting devices
    Permissions repair
Repairing permissions in the Aperture library
    Rebulidng the iPhoto database.
Deleting the iPod Photo Cache inside the Aperture library (which doesn't seem to get rebuilt)
Updating the software.I was using 10.9.2 and 11.1.5 iTunes, but upgrading using the Mavericks public beta hoping that would fix it. It did not.
In iTunes, going to File-->Home Sharing-->Choose Photos to share with AppleTV brings up the same spinning wheel.
Deleting all kinds of preferences, com.apple.itunes, etc.
Oddly enough, my wife's user account which has its own iPad and iPhone synced with its own iPhoto library is doing the exact same thing.
I've spent hours on this and have no idea what else to do. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

I think I fixed it thanks to the answers here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/10331322?messageID=10331322#10331322?messa geID=10331322
It involves reloading the iLifeMediaBrowser from the Mavericks installer.

  • When syncing iTunes with Apple TV (1st gen) some songs and movies will not sync..

I get the message that these songs and movies are not authorized to play on this computer. The computer is authorized and the songs and movies will play on the computer but will not sync to Apple TV
    Any advice is aproeciated.

    Thanks for the reply WC
    Yes they do.
They origialnally played just fine. I moved my entire iTunes library to a new computer and now only 62 songs, out of over 2000, and two of four movies won't sync. All songs and movies are in same folders and same format.
I already selected "keep iTunes media folder organized" and "copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library"
using iTunes 10.7 and OSX 10.8.2

  • Photos rotate when putting into mail

I recently have noticed a strange thing that when I drag photos from iphoto, the image is attached in the rotated position. I can't pin down when this started, but I noticed it tonight with at least 3 or 4 pics. I closed that email, started a new one, same thing, same pics. Then I grabbed a random pic, put it in a new email and it was normal so I grabbed the same "problem pics" from the first 2 attempted emails and now all was fine. Any ideas?
    Iphoto is 5.0.4
    Mail is 2.0.5
    Tiger 10.4.5 if anyone asks.
    Thanks

If you rotate the picture in iPhoto then immediately try and drag that same image into an email window, it looks like it reverts to the pre-rotated orientation.
If you rotate in iPhoto, then click on any other image in your library, then click back on the rotated image and drag it to an email window, it seems to hold its rotated orientation.

  • I CANT KEEP MY PHOTOS ROTATED WHEN I UPLOAD THEM

OK SO WHEN I ROTATE PHOTOS IN A FOLDER ON MY DESKTOP, THEY APPEAR THAT THEY HAVE BEEN SAVED IN THE CORRECT POSITION, HOWEVER WHEN I GO TO UPLOAD THEM TO EBAY OR BLOGGER ETC, THEY GO BACK TO THEIR ORIGINAL FORM. HOW DO I SAVE THE WAY THAT I WANT A PHOTO ORIENTED SO THAT I CAN EASILY UPLOAD IT TO EBAY. IM DEALING WITH 100 OR SO PICTURES A DAY AND WANT TO DO IT FAST LIKE ON MY PC.

Capital letters mean that you're shouting by the way.
You'll need a program to edit your photos in. I assume you've been using the 'rotate' function with Preview ...however this doesn't save the rotated image - that rotate function is only for viewing purposes. Try this site, it provides a lot of free and shareware programs to do what you wish...

  • Photos rotating when uploading from iPhoto to Facebook.

This is driving me crazy! In my iPhoto library my photos are portrait (how I want them) but when I highlight and drag them to Facebook to be part of a post some of the pictures rotate sideways.
Could someone please!!! help me with this.
    Thankyou in advance.

Have you tried to use the "Share" command instead of dragging to the Facebook album? My "Portrait" photos are showing correctly upright when I use the "Share" button in the footer if the iPhoto window.

  • Really slow "importing photos" step when syncing

Every time I sync my Iphone5 to ITunes, the "importing photos" step (step 7 of 8) takes AT LEAST 5 minutes even though I'm not importing any new photos.

Reboot iTunes with your cable to iPhone connected.

  • Photos missing when syncing from iPhoto to iPod touch 3G

OK, I'm trying to upload photos from iPhoto to my G3 iPod Touch. They're in a specific album within a folder. There are 84 pictures in the album, but only 32 are uploading. Anyone know why?

Nope, not by a long shot.
Actually, I figured it out... I separated the photos by which uploaded & which didn't... and discovered the photos need to have their extension showing! Whew! It took a lot of work to fix the mistake, but I've got it all sorted out now.

  • New upload issue - bad photo rotation on homepage upload

When I upload my homepage from iPhoto 5.02 to Homepage, some (but not all) the photos that I had rotated to portrait format have reverted to their original landscape format - so they are displayed sideways. They are all on the correct orientation in the page that iPhoto displays as you compose - it must be a problem somewhere in the upload.
Can anyone offer any help? Am I missing something? Or is this a new glitch in the upload process?
    Paul G,
    Tasmania

Further to this - a bit of perusal of the discussions under the searches "photo rotation" and "photo orientation" show a varying bunch of problems relating to differences of photo orientation between the full-size and the original. (I have checked, and my photos that Homepage is displaying wrongly also display wrongly within iPhoto in edit mode). They all seem to crop up in May - none before, with one exception; issues of photo rotation when syncing to iPod Photo, which crop up from Feb/March.
So my guess is that there was a fix for the iPod sync problem, that has thrown everything else out. Homepage uploads, slideshows, possibly photo-albums, export to iDVD - all the things that work off the (incorrectly oriented) full-size, rather than the correctly oriented thumbnail. (I expect the preview of Homepage works from the thumbnail, whereas the actually uploaded page is processed from the full-sized image).
Another factor might be that all (?) that specify their camera are using Canon, models that automatically embed camera orientation. They note that iPhoto used to orient the photos automatically on import, but now they need to manually rotate. Could just mean a lot of Apple users choose Canon though...
I've reported it as a bug, so I guess we just wait for 5.0.3. In the meantime, faulty homepages are an unfortunate public advertisement of an embarrassing Apple iGlitch.
