Photos Screen saver problems in Windows 7

Photos screen saver crashes most of the time when I move the mouse to exit.
Round circle, this application is not responding etc.
This is pc  upgraded from Vista

Hi sven253,
Is there any third party screen saver software installed? If so, please uninstall it and see if the issue occurs.
As Magon mentioned, Clean Boot is a good method to check if the issue is related to third party software and services. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.
Also, please test the Sample Pictures came with Windows 7 and see if the issue exists:
1.     Right click on the Desktop and then click Personalize.
2.     Click Screen Saver.
3.     Select Photos and then click Settings…
4.     Browse the folder to C:\Users\Public\Pictures\Sample Pictures
5.     Click Save.
6.     Click OK.
What is the result? If the issue persists, please test if the issue occurs using other screen saver, such as 3D Text or Bubbles. However, if the issue does not occur using Sample Pictures, could you please provide the following information for further research?
·          What is the file types you are using? Are they .jpg file or .bmp files?
·          What are the file size of each photo?
·          How many files are there in photo folder?
·          When did the issue first occur? Did it occur after installing certain software or changing some hardware?
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Linda

  • Photo Screen Saver weird random images appear

When the photo screen saver runs, I get random icons pictures appear on top of good photos. Pictures of Country flags, tiki masks, guitars, and other iconic like pictures show up on hi-res photos. It randomly happens, and I do not have these other pictures stored anywhere on the mac... I know it sounds a little crazy, but does anybody else have this problem?

This is not isolated to Leopard 10.5.X only.
I had the same weirdness with 10.4.X.
The Pictures folder inside your home directory is the root of all your iPhoto pictures database, iChat icons and what ever pictures you put in there.
If in Screen Saver you chose your Pictures folder then Screen Saver has access to every single picture within that folder. That includes iChat icons and your iPhoto folder.
Some of the weird pictures I saw came from the iChat icon folder. The pixelated and vertical pictures that you see comes from the iPhoto folder. The pixelated ones are the cashed iPhoto icons and the vertical ones are the original unmodified iPhoto photos. Yes rotating a picture is a modified one.
Before iPhoto 2008 the contents of the iPhoto folder was viewable by anyone. With iPhoto 2008 the folder looks like a single file. That was most likely to stop inexperienced users from wrecking havoc to there iPhoto database and then complaining about iPhoto.
I do not remember if the database of iPhoto 2006 is closed or opened and I do not know Screen Saver will have access to the contents of the now closed iPhoto 2008 data file.
You might still have weird iChat icons, that look like flags, if you chose the Pictures folder.. if default link iChat icons is still there.
I do not personally use the Screen Saver but I am pretty sure that by choosing an iPhoto folder will fix the weirdness permanently.
    Hope this helps

  • ITunes album art screen saver problem

Hi, recently when I use my iTunes album art work as a screen saver the albums have a purple tint to them. It hasn't always been like that so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Just thought I'd let you know that you're not alone. I've tried everything i could think of to fix this problem. The only thing that worked was re-installing the os
and not messing with the settings. But that's not really an option. I only found that out because i got a little delete happy while screwing with my mac.

  • Photo screen saver pixellated after Leopard installation???

Did an archive and install of Leopard (past experience tells me to NEVER do an upgrade to a new OS), and everything seems great, except for my screen saver. I am set up for a slideshow screen saver, and now, half the images in the screen saver come out pixellated in the screen saver. The original images in iPhoto are perfectly fine, just when they're viewed through screen saver.

    Hi Brad.
I tried installing Onyx (version 1.8.3) and got a message saying it wouldn't run with my version of the OS. I am running 10.5.1 (Leopard). Which version of Onyx did you use?
I've had the same problem of some photos being pixellated while others are sharp. I figured I needed to see if I could set the screen saver to reject files under 100K or so.
    Thanks!

  • Annoying Screen Saver Problem

I have set up a separate file that contains photographs to be used as my screen saver. Most of the photos display properly, but I have a few that get cropped in such a manner that you cannot see a person's head etc etc. I did drag those pics into "Preview" and used the "tools" to resize those pics . . but nothing I do corrects the problem.
    Does anyone have a solution?
    T.Y.

I thought about tweaking the resolution but my fear is that this might cause a problem with the pics that currently render themselves as they should! I have around 200 pics in this file to be used by the screen saver . . .less than 10 are giving me a problem . . so do you see my concern?
    Thanks . . . .

  • Picture Screen Saver Problems

Sooo... i have set on my sreensaver to show my pictures from iPhoto. Well just recently, it started showing some of the pictures in realllly low resolution, making them all pixely, while some of the others are in their normal, higher resolution. I have no idea why its doing this.
The only thing i can think of, is that i cleared my cache using cocktail. Would that cause a problem?
    Any suggestions? Help?

I figured it out! So, in the screen saver settings. When you select where you want the pictures to be taken from "aka which folder", make sure its the "photos" option, and not the picture folder. For some reason, other random pics stored on your computer at other resolutions screw things up. Anywho, it worked for me! Give it a try.

  • Photo Screen Saver not functioning with Yosemite Upgrade

Recently I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Yosemite. I have always used a folder in iPhoto for my screen saver via system preferences. Ever since the upgrade this folder will no longer function as the screen saver.  The screen saver option in System Preferences always defaults to Apples National Geographic photos that is installed with Yosemite. After I select the folder I want I "preview" the screen saver and my photos are there. Once the screen saver kicks itself in, the NG photos are there and the system settings are back to NG photos and not my photos. Now, I will admit the NG photos are far above my photos, but I really prefer my photos. Is Apple evaluating photo quality on the screen savers? Kidding - any ideas?

    I have the same issue.
Try this. I think this has worked for me. Only time will tell.

Close all windows and quit all applications.
Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menubar.
Select "Library" from the dropdown, then "Preferences" folder.
    Look for these two files.
    com.apple.desktop.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Right click each  one of those and select " Move To Trash" from the contextual menu.
    Restart the computer.

  • Album artwork/screen saver problem

I having a similar problem too like most on here, but it has a slight twist to it. This is just recent happened to me and I am not sure if any other people on here has experienced it. I was adding some music and my iTunes loaded the music into my library. Then all over sudden it decided to just crash, I didn't think nothing of it. Tried to reopen it crashed, crashed, and crashed. I started panicing so i restarted the computer, but that is when i released what happened.
I didn't notice this small problem until my album artwork slide show screen saver started.Somehow or way my iTunes has lost all over its Album artwork in it's folders, BUT.... it's still there on the albums and so forth. So what is the deal? I scanned for viruses i came up with none and I verified the DISK and reparied it everything was okie. But right as I was scanning for viruses the 1st time the whole OSX crashed. Which was the reason see if the HFS Volume 1 had problems but it did not. So has anyone experienced this problem yet? Or is it telling me I should move on and get me a new Mac soon?

If you post the problem in a new discussion with a new title, someone will be able to help you out. I doubt you need a new computer, try everything and with some luck you will be OK. There are others who will be able to get you quickly fixed right, I am not the best at the problems you are having.
    Cheers, SZ

  • Photo screen saver

I'm trying to figure out how to control which photos go to the screen saver on the apple tv. Not the photo stream, but my albums. I would like it to play multiple albums at the same time, and yet current downloaded photos do not appear. Help

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only select a single album to use with the screensaver. You can make that choice in settings > screensaver.

  • Screen Saver Problem/bug?

I'm really enjoying leopard. I've only found two minor problems/issues. One is Ichat backgrounds, but I why its not doing what it should and why. The problem I'm trying to Figure out is the screen saver. Specifically the Itunes screen saver. They will load/display up individually fine (loading into the screen saver and in Itunes), but when the screen save tiles them they all appear with a red hue. (Tiger worked fine). Has anyone else had this problem? can it be fixed adjusted (easily)

I've got the same problem on my iMac 20" (Intel 2.0 GHz Core Duo), BUT, the problem occurs on my +*second monitor*+ (over DVI) all the time, but only on some pictures on my main (built in) monitor.
I've tried to create a new Color Profile for the second monitor, but this did not solve the problem.
The problem is also only visible when the screensaver is fully loaded (during the 'loading' of pictures, the color is okay).
I've created a screenshots to my main and external monitor here:

Main monitor (all okay, except for 1 image):

  • Screen saver problem. Yosemite

Help please. I keep having to go back into Screen Saver to reselect the iphoto album I want it to run. It works for a few cycles, or sometimes only once, then switches back to National Geographic slides. Grr.

Back up all data. Quit System Preferences if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return. A folder should open. If it does, look for a file with a long name that begins "com.apple.screensaver". There may be several such files. Move them all to the Trash.
Log out or restart the computer. Test. If the problem is resolved, empty the Trash and recreate your settings in the Screen Saver tab.

  • System preference -- desktop and screen saver problem

whenever i go into system preference and into the desktop and screen saver menu... the computer always freezes? with a spinning colored wheel ? can anyone tell me why... or should i bring it to the apple store to have the tech check it out?
    Thanks

Could be that the prefs file has been hosed and it's getting stuck trying to write to it. Maybe delete the prefs file in /Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Re-start and see what happens. Likewise run permissions repair in case that is the problem.
The spin event may also show up in your logs, so open 'console' in utilities and check for further info on why the Mac froze.

  • Screen Saver problems.

I just bought a MacBook Pro with Retina Display. It shipped with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.1. I set my screen saver to iTunes Artwork. I then downloaded 10.8.2. When I downloaded the newest version, it now says my iTunes library has no artwork. While my iTunes library has over 100 songs all bought from the iTunes store.

A few other people have reported the same issue. It seems that the screensaver is not fully compatible with the new version of iTunes. I don't know of a workaround.
