Photos Section - Photo Links

Hi there, I am very satisfied with the website I have created in iWeb, it is the Freestyle theme and has a photo section in which I have put 16 photos.
I have put my site on the internet, and I was testing to make sure all the pages worked correctly, and I was testing my Photos page. Well, all of the photos are in correctly, however they can all be clicked on as a link. Whenever I click on a photo, it goes to a 404 error.
I know HTML, a bit of PHP and JavaScript, and know how to set up a website. My question is, "How do I make my photo images in the Photos section, link to a full size photo?" They are obviously meant to link to something, and if I have to manually do the hyperlinks that is ok. Whenever I click on the photo in iWeb, it's just to move the photos location in the list. In inspector I am not able to insert a hyperlink, and I don't know what it thinks of this photo.
Any ideas?
The site can be viewed at http://www.dankruse.110mb.com

  • Missing photo links - changing name of external Hard Drive location

I have searched for the answer to this high and low without success if someone can help...
I have a large collection of photos that I store on an external firewire hard drive (too many to store on my macbook pro). My iphoto library is on my Mac and when importing photos to iphoto I did not import the files so the originals remain on the external hard drive and are therefore linked to in iphoto.
I did it this way, rather than storing the library database on the external drive, so that I could access the information and thumbnails when travelling and not connected to my external drive.
I've upgraded my external hard drive and it will have a different name. I need to transfer all the photos across to the new hard drive.
Is there a quick way to reconnect all my original photos when transferred to the new hard drive or a better way to transfer them? Having tried to copy them across manually, obviously as expected I get a missing photo exclamation mark and am asked to browse to the file to relink. This is OK to reconnect one or two photos, but would take me forever with 17,000.
I remember Adobe Photo Album had a command reconnect missing files, and it would go off and search for the files you may have moved location (or changed the directory name in which they were held). Is such a function available in iphoto? I've tried the iphoto re-build functions, but this doesn't look in other attached volumes for the photos.
Alternatively, is there a way to edit the iphoto library database to do a search and replace of the Volume name to the new name and reconnect the link to then photos? e.g. Can you manually edit the albumdata.xml file (and would this be the file to edit) for example, and rebuild the database with Photo Library Manager?
Can you re-import all the photos from the new location, and rebuild the links that way, or does this create duplicate entries and not merge album, keyword event data etc for each photo?
My last resort is re-importing all the photos again, but of course I'd loose all my keywords, albums, events and other info I've spent a long time entering into iphoto.
    Thanks
    Phil

I just wanted to close this off to say that my solution worked fine and my iphoto libraries are up and running in perfect order again. And to summarise the solution so you don't have to read the entire post above.
This solution is for those wanting to have the iphoto library on your Mac and store the original photos linked elsewhere on an external / network drive (i.e. not imported into the iphoto library). Then you want to change the location where the originals are stored (say for example you get a new bigger external Hard Drive - like I did), and that new location will have a different name. Most people recommend importing the photos into the iphoto library, keeping everything together, and this can then be moved anywhere and accessed.
So to summarise, if you are moving original photos linked into iphoto:
    1. Back up everything you can first...
    2. First try moving the files (not copying and deleting) - the aliases may reconnect, especially if they are on your main HD. You may need to manually reconnect one file in each sub-directory.
    3. Move your photos to your external HD / network drive. Note if the new place has the same name as your old external HD then the aliases probably won't need to be fixed.
    4. Download and install File Buddy or similar Alias 'fixer'
    5. Go to your iphoto Library, right click, "Show Package Contents"
    6. Copy the "Originals" directory to another location so that file buddy can read it.
    7. Run File buddy, fixing the aliases in your copy of the Originals folder, pointing to where you've moved your photos too (restrict the directories as much as possible where you point file buddy to search for the missing files to speed it up). You will only have issues if you have multiple copies of the same file - i.e. that have the same file name and creation date, and file buddy will give you a list of these. This in itself is a good check to see you don't have the same file in two places - I only had issues with folders of photos that I'd been given from family in which there were multiple copies of the same photo. I've now cleaned these up, saved space and ran file buddy again to finish the job off.
    8. Finally, move this now fixed "Originals" folder back into your iphoto library (package contents) - writing over / replacing the original "Originals" directory.
All being well, should be fixed!
Just to share with you the benefits I find of having my photos stored on an external HD and the iphoto library on my Macbook:
-- Saves space on my limited internal HD
-- others can access the photos, set up and manage their own iphoto libraries pointing at the same originals, and we don't need two copies of the original files
-- I can access the iphoto library and manage albums, add keywords, titles, etc when not connected to the External HD, though you're limited to viewing the (not too small) thumbnail pictures iphoto stores in its library
I'm loving iphoto even more now, it makes managing and viewing my 1000's of photos a pleasure.
    Cheers
    Phil

  • "Edit photo" link in iPhoto Book Project does not work

    Hi,
I am putting together an Book project in iPhoto.  On a few pictures, I would like to edit them to make minor adjustments.
When I right click on the picture in iPhoto Book Project, there is an option to "Edit Photo".
When I click on the "Edit Photo" link, the screen switches to the iPhoto Edit page  but the picture does not load for editing - it's just a black screen.
I can always edit the photo before placing it in the Book, but in a large Book it is more convenient to select the picture on the Book page rather than going back and look for it in iPhoto.
Anyone has experienced/fixed this?  Is this a bug?  I have version 9.2.3
    Thanks
    Armen

Are you able to go to the photo in its Event and edit it there? Apply the fix below:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #1 to repair permissions and #4 to rebuild the database.

  • Photo links in Mail

    Hello,
I am trying to set up photo links in email in the Mail application. What I need is for the person to be able to click on a photo on in an email and be linked to specific website. Does anyone know how to do this or if it possible? I've been searching for this for hours and keep coming up with nothing.
    Thanks

In case you've given up on your other post...
Hey, get Rapid Weaver, paste your code into it, publish it, and the picture links work just like they're supposed to in Safari & Firefox...

Though I have an older version 4.2.1
Worked renaming it & moving it to Mail>Signatures also.

  • Is there a way to export your photo links from Illustrator (CS6) to a contact sheet?

So I've got this project where I'm making a set of images and placing about 300 photos with each set.  In order to avoid duplication and to track which photos were used where, I'm having to take screen shots of the links panel (scrolling down and taking another for each batch of images on each file).  This is a really clunky way to track these files and a contact sheet would be a lot easier to work with.  Is there a way to export the links to a contact sheet in Illustrator?

    - select your images
    - open the Document Info Panel, check "Selection Only", "Linked Images" and click on "Save..."

  • Non-existant photo links?

    Hi all
I have an N96 (firmware version 12.043) and I have a weird problem with it. When I go into the photo gallery, I have loads of boken links to photos that don't actually exist on the phone (they were on the memory card previously, but I have since deleted them) that I want to delete. When I try to delete them I get the error "General: System Error".
This problem started when I got back from a holiday in the US (I'm in the UK) last week.

This is very late, but I had the same issue so I'll respond here. The issue is that the phone's index of photos is corrupted. It's found in /private/101ffc31 as glxmdstn, I think, or maybe it was another folder. It thinks the files are there, but they're not. (Usually, managing the phone's contents in PC Suite or Media Transfer mode does this. I've had all sorts of issues with phantom files this way.) So if you delete that, by connecting the phone in mass storage mode and showing hidden folders in Windows, it'll rebuild the index based on the actual contents and it'll be fine.
You run into a problem if this happens with any files that were stored on C:/. The corresponding Private folder is also in C:/ and unlike the one in the memory card there's no way to access it. You have to back up your phone, do a complete blanking and reset, and then reload the backup.
Help I'm trapped in a sig factory.

  • Photo link to open or save as?

How do I setup an image of a photo as a link to show the open or save as box when clicked on?  When I click on it, it just open in a new browser window.  When I put a powerpoint file link it will work.
This is what I want it to do.  See attachment.
    Thank you.

And, in some cases, the Powerpoint file will simply open on the user's computer depending on the cofiguration, what software is installed, what browser they are using and how that reacts to various file types.
A link to a JPG image from a text link or image link, will always open the image in the browser. MP3's will also start to play in the user's default media player, etc.
One solution is to make it a ZIP file.  That will always for the Save dialog.  Another is to put instructions on right clicking.
I used an extension a while back called "BUD force download" or something like that. It worked for MP3's, but I can't remember if it worked on images.  I also am not sure if it required ASP, or was available for other server types.  You can try to find that, or perhpas other scripts that will work for you.

  • AlbumData.xml not built correctly: Original photo link is not on filesystem

Background: using iPhoto 7.1.5 (378), with option unchecked "copy items to the iPhoto Library', library migrated from one external hard disk to another. So: my pictures are stored separate from the library, both on the same new external hard disk.
*The issue*: when using e.g. iTunes to copy pictures to a device, iTunes only shows some of the pictures (counts are lower), many pictures are missing. In my case: over 8000 pictures in iPhoto, iTunes is only showing about 3000. The cause of the issue is the file AlbumData.xml, which refers to files that are not on the filesystem.
Interesting is that I can view and export all pictures in iPhoto just fine, even the "missing" ones. So: the data in the internal iPhoto database must be different than the AlbumData.xml file. I tried recreating the AlbumData.xml file, but exactly the same file is recreated.
*The cause*: not sure, probably related to the migration of the iPhoto library + pictures that are on the filesystem, from one external disk to another. It seems it works fine when adding new images. But not sure about that.
*The details*: the AlbumData.xml contains entries where the ImagePath for the original picture refers to a non-existing picture. That is: there is no such file. When checking the filesystem, in some cases that whole directory does not exist, in other cases the directory exists, but no content. When adding new pictures, everything works fine.
Rebuilding the iPhoto database did not help either (alt-cmd when opening, with all option enabled). iPhoto Library Manager (great app, great support) has the same effect as e.g. iTunes, it seems it has to rely on AlbumData.xml instead of the internal iPhoto database.
*The expected result*: a way to rebuild the .../Originals/... filesystem that is in sync with the iPhoto internal database.
Looks like a bug in iPhoto to me.
    Any ways of solving this?
    Thanks in advance!

Baring a incompatible HD format issue that Terence questioned about, moving the library and source files to a different drive will break the link between the alias file and the "source" file. Even renaming the HD the same hasn't proved successful in reestablishing all links in such a library.
However, since they are on the same HD now, you probably can relink each event one at a time by double clicking on a thumbnail and, when asked to find the source file, navigate to the appropriate folder and selecting the file. That will usually relink all files in that event/folder. Probably the photos you're seeing currently are those that have been modified and have versions of themselves in the Modified folder within the library and thus do not rely on alias links.
That being said, IMO you would be best served by running a manage library and have it located on the external HD. You would be able to relocate the library at any time without any link issue. You don't show what Mac model you're using but if it's a laptop and you need to take some of the photos with you just have a "traveling" library which you can stock with the photos you need by copying them from the external library to the laptop's library using iPhoto Library Manager. It will copy events or albums between libraries and keep the metadata, titles, keywords, and comments, intact.
If you do a search for "referenced library" in this forum you'll find a lot of posts which illustrate the pitfalls of running a "referenced" library.
    Happy New Year
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How do I get rid of 'add photo' link on published photo album?

I don't see it on my iWeb file but it shows on my published website on the photo album page: a link that says:
    + Add photo
Any idea on how to remove that? Thanks!!

To get rid of the download button, open the Photos inspector and select "Photos Download Size - none".
This will not stop people from downloading images by control clicking. All this does is remove the convenient button.

  • Where has my "Photos" link gone

When I plug my iPad into my PC and go into iTunes there is no link to upload or view my photos. I click on my device a.k.a "Jen's iPad" but all I see are "Music", "Movies" and "TV Shows" but no button for "Photos".

A link may be a link but when you use the link in a browser what you get back may depend on what identity the browser presents to the web server, i.e., Safari or mobile Safari.
Ordinarily these might just be different resolution versions of the same video. It's not hard to imagine, however, that due to an error on the web server, a completely different video was returned.

  • Optimize photo links from another website??

I have a client that has two websites.  I want to use all the photos from her other website to make thumbnails.  There are huge amounts of photos, so I have just linked the photos from her present site.  Does anyone know if it's possible to optimize them, so the page full of thumbnails is faster to load?  Is there some sort of Javascript for that?  I'm guessing not, but am very hopeful!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey Nancy
Maybe it would just be easier to give you these details...
The site that the pictures are from:  http://blog.carmichaelphoto.com
    Thumbnails are embedded into: http://elopeinbanff.ca/indexNew.php
Photos have been uploaded to Blogger by the client.
The Elope in Banff server is fast enough, but the more thumbnails that are added, the more it slows down the "special effects" that the page has (the opening of the gallery tab, itself).  And yes, the site is all on one page, so that gets a tad bulky too, but it wasn't that big a deal till I added the thumbs.

  • Image Maps & Photo Links

I'm new to Dreamweaver... first site design with css.  I love it.   Doing okay but have run into two obstacles I'm just not adept enough to over come.
    Site Name:  twangtowntv.com
#1)  I think I have screwed up my main page template.  Not sure how to fix that so that I can have repeating elements throughout the site update simultaneously once again.  Is there any way to rebuild that page and then reapply the page attributes to my existing site pages?
#2)  I've used image maps and have linked photos to websites many times.  But, for the the life of me, I can't make it happen with the images in my right sidebar.  Nothing seems to work.  I image map them, link them... but nothing... no hyperlinking action!     Right now I have added to each page as part of a Library item.   Thought that might open the flood gate.  Still... nothing.  ANY IDEAS of what I might try will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks... Tim

Have you fixed this, because when I hover over any of the picture links on the right, they point to a new page or go to a different link.
if you are using a template, not sure why you would need to use a library item in the left sidebar, if the links are all going to be the same on every child page??
You can repair the master template page, and have the changes reflect on the child pages, but you'd need to make sure that all the editable regions were the same, otherwise, the child pages won't know where to create any of the new regions and could end up with a mess.

  • Photo Links

Hopefully you will understand what I am trying to ask ha ha....
I have a website for a photography business. Right now..I have all my photo pages separate. At the top of the website (I guess you would call it the header) I have "lifestyle", "families", and "wedding". I would like for those to be gone and just to have "photos" at the top. Then I would like my customers to click on photos and be able to have links to all the other pages. This way the header does not have a million different topics. Do you understand lol? Hopefully..I would love any help I can get. Thanks!!

If you upgrade to iWeb 2 in iLife'08 you can create a +Photo Album Page+. Here's a video tutorial showing how:
More info about +My Album pages+ is here:
And here's what iWeb's Help viewer says about it:
+Organizing photo and movie albums on one page...+
You can use the My Albums template to create a pictorial index for your photo and movie albums. On the My Albums index page, visitors can click a thumbnail or poster frame to go to the album or movie. You can add animations that visitors see when the pointer moves over an album.
iWeb treats Photos pages as albums because they are collections of pictures or other images. Photos pages and Movie pages added to a My Albums index page are not shown in the website’s navigation menu; visitors click the My Albums link to see your index page.
You can place up to 99 albums on a page, and you can create as many My Albums pages as you’d like.
