Photos sent in low resolution?

I've just sent a photo by e-mail by selecting the e-mail icon on the lower right of the IPhoto screen. I selected "Actual Size (Full Quality)" When I did, the window said the estimated size of the photo was 2.3 MB (which it is). When I looked at the e-mail after I sent it, the photo is listed as 1.3 MB.
I sent another picture. In this case, again with the IPhoto window set at "Actual Size", the message said the photo was 6 m.b. (which it is). When I looked at this e-mail it shows the sent image to have been only 592 KB.
Does anybody know what's going on?

I am sending the photos by clicking the icon in the bottom right corner of the IPhoto page. What that always does is open the kind of basic e-mail page that you have included in your posting. I must admit I'd never seen the pop-up in its bottom right hand corner. So I've just run a test.
I've: selected the same 2.3 MB photo in IPhoto, clicked the e-mail icon, selected "Actual Size", seen the message saying the photo is 2.3 MB, clicked "compose message", been directed to the main e-mail page (as illustrated in your post). This time I looked to the bottom corner of this page and have noted that the pop-up menu says "Actual Size". I sent this e-mail to myself and when it arrives it is still only 1.3 MB in size.

Scary problem! Old photos suddenly dark, low resolution.

Going through some old pictures I've just noticed that 3-4 sets from 4 years ago have become very dark and lower resolution.
The weirdest part is that they are not complete "sets" -- that is, the darkness seems to in random groups of certain sets (i.e., the first 3-4 are okay, followed by 20 dark/low rez images, followed by 2-3 'normal' images).
I tried zapping the PRAM, as I read that resolved a similar issue. And I repaired permissions.
No dice.
Any thoughts? What I'm afraid of is this happening to all my photos.
Note that I upgraded from a 12" G4 to an iMac two years ago, and imported all those photos. I also upgraded to 10.6 about 8 months ago.
But I just noticed this now -- not sure when it happened.

Thanks much for the tips. I calibrated per your suggestion and killed the pref file -- still have several batches of very dark, low resolution photos that weren't that way before.

Emailing Photos Results In Lower Resolution

My brother just emailed me a photo he took on the iPhone 3GS and it was showing as 600x800 and I knew something was off. Pulling the photo from his phone to my computer results in a larger 1200x1600 photo. How can we email the full size image to each other? Is there a setting or something I am missing?

There IS a way around it. When you click on a picture and choose "share" it emails it, resized, however if you click and hold on the picture you can choose "copy" which copies the original image unaltered.
Paste that into an email to send the full resolution image. You can copy as many as you want I think up to 32 successfully into an email by using the icon in the lower left while looking at the entire album instead of the single picture.
You must have OS 3.0 on your iphone to do this.

How do I convert a digital photo to a low resolution 5-color pixelated image?

I want to do a lego project with my kid and would like to convert a picture of him into 5-color (or six-color) pixel form so that I can use that as a map to make a portrait that would look great from far away. Thanks from a neophyte.

After you have resized appropriately with Resample Image (very important) checked, done the Indexed color and then the Mosaic Filter, you can then Preview Print, which should use the chosen printer's driver to do just that - preview the print. If all meets with your approval, then the resultant print should be good, provided that you have an ICC Profile for that printer loaded, that matches your PS workflow. This will have more to do with color and density, than the printer ignoring aspects of the image. If not, then something is likely amiss with the printer's driver.
Now, some printers seem to like other formats, better than .PSD's. Some have better luck with Flattened TIFF's, and some with .PDF's. This will likely depend on your printer and on its driver. You might want to Save_As PDF (no need to be able to edit it later here), and try that. Same result?

Why are my photos now appearing in very low resolution?

What happened to my sharp and clear photos? Why are my photos now very low resolution with a progress image appearing as a circle on the photo and filling in 1/4 of the circle. Why are the photos very low resolution copies that look like crap? Where are the good sharp photos I took?

Latest iOS on iPad Air in photos. It appears server was slow. Progress bar circle now filling in complete circle and resolution is good. Why do I have to download my photos from iCloud i have plenty of memory space on my ipad ? Same with movies and music I purchased. I bought extra physical
memory when I purchased my iPad so I could view my stuff regardless of whether I had a wifi connection...apparently not.

HT1044 Low resolution warning in iPhoto 09 but on screen looks great

Hi:
I'm working with Snow Leopard and iPhoto 09. I'm building a book and have added photos. Some of the photos show a low resolution warning.
I'd like to keep them at the size shown in the book. I've increased the zoom on the pages and the photos look crisp and clean. Should I be concerned
about the low res icon then?
OR where do I find dpi info and how do I increase it?

1 - yes you should be concerned - that is why there is a warning
2 - screens display images at 72 DPI - printing requires at least 150 DPI and 300 API is better
3 - you can not "increase DPI" since it is a mathmatical caculation - Dots Per Inch - Dots (pixels) divided by inches
4 - the solution is to use another photo or to reduce the "zoom" so that the photo does not have a warning

Creating low resolution copy of iPhoto library

I've got 15 000 high resolution (10 Mpx) on my iMac and would like to have a low resolution copy of the whole library with me on my MBP.
How would I do this, while preserving tags, albums, creation dates, etc?
If I just export all my photos in a lower resolution and then imports them, I'd loose everything like that, right?
Should/can I copy the library, resize the pictures (how?) and then delete all high resolution copies?

The correct way to do this is to export all the pics from the iMac library using the File -> Export command. In the resulting dialogue you can
- write the tags to the files on export, and
- the export process will maintain all the Exif data - i.e creation dates etc.
- resize the pics as you wish
If you export Album by Album to seperate folders it is very easy to recreate your set up on the MBP. - Just drag and drop the Folders of images to the Source Pane on the library on the MBP and iPhoto will create an Album for each Folder.

Photo File Size and Resolution

In the process of creating a book using iPhoto appeared in the corner. The warning said that the photo was of low resolution. I have scanned a lot of my slides, and the files are 65 Mb, which is too big, and the ones with the warning were around 200 Kb. My question is to get the best resolution (while creating a book) what size file should I import into iPhoto?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
As you discovered,the low resolution warning hopefully prevents insertion of low quality pictures in a book.

Too low resolution on a picture

I am trying to create a holiday card on a website and am told the photo has too low resolution. They said I can change this on my computer. Can I?????

No - you can reduce resolution but can not increase it - how are you accessing your photo? What resolution is the original? Try selecting the photo and exporting it and uploading the exported photo

IPhoto Calendar low-resolution alert

I have tried to use old photos for my 2009 calendar. All the photos show a low-resolution alert. Using my present Panasonic digital camera there are no alerts. How do I increase the old photos resolution to high so that my photos will be a good quality picture.

iPhoto warns you when a picture falls below the 180 dpi level. What are the pixel dimensions of the photos you're using? If they don't fall too far below that dpi level they would probably print up satisfactory.
Do you have Photoshop Elements or PS itself?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

What exactly is your question?
If you have low resolution photos then they will have to be printed smaller and the quality not be as good as if you had better photos - there is no way to make a poor photo better
And in general iPhone photos are not low resolution - what are the pixel dimensions of the photos? What size photos are you trying to print?

I transferred some photos to my iphone via email and they come up in camera roll as low resolution. How do I fix this?

I transferred some photos to my iphone via email and they have very low resolution. First I sent them from iPhoto with highest resolution, then I transferred them to my desktop in highest resolution and added them to an email, opened the email and saved to my Camera roll. They all look like low resolution photos.This is the exact method I have used to transfer photos in the past with my 4S and never had a problem. What am I doing wrong? Is this a bad camera? HELP please! Thank you!

My husband has the same phone, we purchased them at the same time. I sent him the same photos in the same email that I downloaded them from and on his phone they show up with the normal higher resolution. Is it possible that there is something wrong with my iPhone or is there a setting that can be changed? I'm still learning to use it. All my other photos are of normal resolution. Does this make any sense to anyone?

HD crashed, photos recovered are now in low resolution.

Please help! My HD crashed last week and I had the data recovered (no, I didn't back it up). The data that was sent back to me included my photos, but after I imported them into iPhoto, they are all in low resolution. Is there any way to correct this?

the basic solution is to reload from a complete backup - if you do not have one then you are guaranteed to lost your photos and all other files sooner or later
Since iPhoto keeps two or three versions of photos your recovered data would include both the thumbnails and the originals as well as the modified versions - the general rule would be to use the largest one
If all you got was the thumbnails then the data recovery service did not do a good job

Low resolution photos from Revel

Hi,
I hope this is the correct forum and that this question has not already been delt. I have search but dont find any solution.
I have decided to stop using dropbox "camera upload" and switch to Adobe Revel.
I seams to work great except for the fact that the photo inside Photoshop elements is a lower resolution than the original taken on my iPhone. This kind of defeats the point to me! Dropbox uploaded the full resolution pic to my PC.
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to get the original quality version on my PC using Revel. I am not interested in the "social media" side of it it.
My primary use for Revel is to get my FULL / ORIGINAL image inside Photoshop elements. Dropbox, Onedrice and Googledrive do a great job but at the end of the day I still need to import the pictures. Revel just seems cleaner if I can get it to work.
BTW, if I download a photo via the Revel website it is the original so my iPhone is updoading as it should.
Any help will be appreciated

Thank so much for your reply. That portion I comfortable with, but was thinking I could take photos with my mobile phone and have them sync to a folder on my PC as my originals. I dont want to download photo's from my phone. It does work as desired exept the fact that the photos resolution is lower on the PC than the "originals" on the Revel website.
If I right click on the photo in PE and select "download original from revel" it works, but sort of defeats it purpose in my case.
It seems like Photoshop is not importing the pic at the original resolution. ie to me I would expect a "import original resolution" inside photoshop.
I am using PE12.
I dont like to compare PE revel to apple iCloud, but this is how their software works. If I take a photo on my iPhone its on my mac in full res within minutes to do with as I please. This is what I was thinking Revel could do for me and more. Dropbox, Onedrive and Googledrive all support this, but then I have to import it into PE.

How low is the resolution? What size is the photo (in pixels) and what size is the frame it's in (theme used, photos per page, etc.)? I've had some photos that gave me the warning that looked OK but it was just on the edge of the warning size, about 140 dpi.
