Photos shifting in drop zones

Hi,
I have a project with 3 photos in the main menu and several submenus that each have 3 photos. My problem is that when the menu loops the photos shifts. Or when clicking to a submenu the photos shift. I repositioned most of my photos when I added them so it looks like the shifted image is the default drop positioning. I also found how to reposition them at the end of the menu but isn't a way to make the reposition at the beginning and the end exactly the same so as to have a seamless loop of the 3 photos? And what about that shift when clicking to the submenu?

It is a strange theme to try to understand. The slit across the screen starts out at about the 3/4 from the bottom of the added photos and scans upward. I've not figured out how to use it effectively, at least not with regular photos.
As far as the choppiness is concerned make sure you have lots of free space on the boot drive. Most experienced users in this forum recommend 25 GB. Having too little can cause the problem you're having.

  • Photo dragged to drop zone not resized

iDVD is supposed to automatically resize photos dragged to drop zones to fit the screen. Not so. The photo I dragged was cropped and enlarged. How do I fix it?

I also had this problem and it was only by chance that I decided to use a still image from my film to use in one of the drop zones (from iMovie). This photo fit perfectly in the narrow portrait drop zone. I opened the photo in Photoshop to discover the size is actually 960 x 720. I created a new image with these dimensions and placed my desired image in the exact middle of the display. Voila!

  • Fitting or resizing a photo in a drop zone

Is there a way to resize a photo in DVDSP. I have a logo that I want on my menu. It was given to me as both a jpg and psd. I tried putting either in the drop zone. Only part of the image appears in the drop zone. When I enlarge the drop zone I can get the entire image to appear, but then it's as wide as the menu screen (I just want it in a corner). I tried importing a smaller version, but that does the same, but pixilated. Is there a way to get the image to fit the size of the drop zone, not the other way around.

select then click & drag corner handle to size picture
select then click & drag in picture to move
shift alt then click & drag in picture to move picture within the drop zone frame

  • How do I add a photo to a drop zone in a title?

    Friends,
I'm making a movie using the "Snapshot" title.  It appears to have a drop zone to add a photo, but I can't figure out how to add the photo.  Can you help?
    Thanks!

My mistake -- it's the "Scrapbook" title, in the bumpers/openers group.  I have the same question for the "comic book" title.

  • How do you resize a photo in an iDVD drop zone?

The themes in iDVD are virtually useless if you can't easily drag a photo into a drop zone and move and resize as necessary.  Using the method described in iDVD is ridiculously cumbersome but what's worse is that it doesn't work.
Does anyone have a suggestion for making this task easier?  Does anyone know of better software that would replace iDVD?
This problem has been around for years.  It's unbelievable that Apple allows the problem to continue.
    Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the reply - I've just gotten around to playing with this some more and as you mentioned, I'm now creating a new image in Photoshop that repositions the image so that it places well in the iDVD template (soft frame in this case). Extra work, and it appears to be effective in the iDVD interface, but when I burned a test DVD the images were scaled differently in the final render to disk.
I'm not trying to do anything out of the ordinary here - just want to burn a DVD of my baby boy for the grandparents. This is precisely the type of use iLife is aimed at... But something as simple as putting a picture of my son on the DVD menu took the extra step of composing in Photoshop in order to have his head not cropped ridiculously. Now even that extra work is altered on the DVD.
I'm new to iDVD and might just need to work with it some more, but so far it just seems wrong and inconsistent with the rest of iLife to not have this flexibility.

  • Photo too large for drop zone

Often when I drag a photo into the drop zone of a main menu, the photo goes in but is displayed so large that much of the subject is cropped out. Anyone have a way of shrinking the photo down so that the entire photo can be seen in the menu?

I have found that size of the photo is rarely a problem. The problem is simply getting that portion of the photo you are interested in to show. The drop zone photo areas are small, therefore, you generally are placing photos of people that were taken from distances of 5 to 10 feet. The faces are the key to being satisfied with the photo in the drop zone ( or the car, or the motorcylcle, etc.) FORTUNATELY, you can drop the photo in the zone, and then place your cursor on the photo and move it around so that exactly the area of the photo you are concerned with will show! By moving my photos ( in effect a cropping occurs without the loss of any part of the photo. It would be like looking at a 4X6" photo and placing a 1X3" frame on it. Move the frame around to get what you want and VOILA! Hope this enables you to accomplish your drop zone objective.

  • Resizing photos for drop zones

When I drop a photo into a drop zone in iDVD '08 it stays huge and only a small part of the photo can be seen. I have resized to 768x576 as the HELP suggested but it made no difference. No matter how small I made the photo, it got blown up to a large size. I know you can move the photo a little using the command button and the mouse, but unfortunately that doesn't help much when the image is so big.
Any ideas? I'm just about ready to pull the last couple of hairs out of my head! This has never been a problem in iDVD '06
    Many thanks

Changing the dpi won't help - iDVD and iMovie don't care about it. The theme displays the entire image from top to bottom (more or less), but since the window is portrait mode on a landscape image, you loose about 1/4 of the image on each side. There doesn't seem to be much you can do with it (other than not use it).
What I would do is create a 640 x480 image with a 120 pixel wide black band on either side and insert a 400 pixel wide by 480 pixel high image in the middle between the black bands. The theme should show you just about all of the image you have inserted when you place the 640x480 image in the drop zone window. I wish there were an easier way, but I've had to use such trial and error methods since I started working with iDVD back in iDVD 2 days.

  • Photos in DROP ZONE of iDVD 08

Hi there. I used to be able to move photos around slightly (left to right/ up and down) in the old iDVD. When I updated to 08 this is no longer possible.
After a quick search here I found someone mentioning holding down the command button when moving it - but that doesn't make any difference to me - all it does is whoosh the photo out of the drop zone and delete it.
Can anyone give me step by step / idiot guide to moving photos around the drop zone please? I am fed up with them being off centre.
    S

When I hold down the Command key (Apple key) I can move the image from right to left.
If you want to move up or down, I suspect you need to crop the image so that it only shows the 'vertical information' you want to show in the drop zone.

  • RANT! : still no resize option when using drop zones!

Picture this: you drop a photo into a drop zone. But it's a little too big, and doesn't fit well. So, in a perfect world, you right-mouse-click, say resize, and some handles come up and you can resize on the fly.
I really don't understand why this option isn't in yet. It seems so obvious and usefull.
Really... sometimes the software is too simple for it's own good!!! grrr...

There is a way around this.
In iPhoto, crop the image to a more suitable width, but make the crop higher than it is wider (keep the full height).
Now, when you drop the cropped photo on a drop zone you can at least move it up or down.
I do it all the time, or I deliberately take and/or use vertical photos.

  • Moving Still Graphics in Motion Template: Drop Zones

I am new to this and it is probably a simple answer. I have a portrait JPG photo to add to a drop zone in a template. How do I adjust the photo only so that it will not cut off the top of the photo. I am using fit in the image properties. It works with stretch but that option distorts the photo and centre makes the photo selection even smaller within the drop zone. The photo is quite large. Do I have to reduce it's size first?
If I move the photo down with the selection tool it does not allow me to move the photo down without cutting off the rest of the photo outside the drop zone box. All I want to do is move the photo down so it fits within the drop zone so that I can see the bride and groom.

    hi,
what is the aspect ratio of the drop zone? if it doesnt match your photo then you are going to have to compromise on something. You might lose some picture either at the sides or top and bottom, or maybe you see some blank around the picure.
As Patrick says its a waste of power having a large picture if you are going to reduce its size and pop it in a frame. Further to this you might want to preflight your image to be the right ratio for your drop zone.
    Hope this helps

  • Images won't appear in Drop Zones

This has been bugging me for a while now. I am trying to create an easy to use/burn presentation platform for a recent group trip I went on. I'd like to eventually be able to burn copies to a DVD so that others may have a copy of our adventure. At first I was going to just create a slideshow using iDVD, when I came into these troubles I switched to using iMovie to create a slideshow with the music I want and the transitions I want. That still leaves the embellishment portion of it. I don't want the menus to look boring.
What I am finding to be troublesome is that I try to import images from iPhoto into iDVD and they some times, more often than not, will not appear in the drop zones on the larger screen. They will show in the editor but not above. I've tried changing themes, same thing. I have also tried to bypass iPhoto by importing the images I want into the drop zones by using the File>Import>Image... route.
Please, any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
    I'm running on a Mac OS X v10.6.8 with 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
    The iDVD is version 7.1.1

hi there, I am confused when you stated you cant "import images from iPhoto into iDVD"  .
The way I get photos into the drop zones is to drag the photos from the media browser on the right hand side of the screen. I don't "import" .. unless I'm misinterpreting the use of that term. here is my idvd project and note on the bottom right hand side I've clicked Media.  Then I click Photos on the top and it shows me all my photos. Thats where I drag and drop FROM.
Note you can also drag and drop photos from a finder window. The only time I have issues is if my photo is a landscape and I'm trying to stick it into a box that is portrait and vice-versa.
    does this help at all?

  • Drop Zone Clone?

I'm doing a project for a charity and I want to create a bunch of drop zone areas for the hundreds of pictures I need to display. I would like to drop one photo into a drop zone and have it also fill another drop zone that is the mirror image.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

create your drop zone, then clone it (k) ... whatever happens to the original drop zone is auto cloned...

  • Drop Zone Resize

I'm using one of the templates in Motion and when I drop in a photo into the drop zone I'd like to resize the dropped in pic. Can't figure out how to do this.
    Can it be done?

    Dan,
With your drop zone highlighted in the LAYERS tab, go to your Inspector window, click the image tab. you will see your "drop zone" checked. just beneath it is a parameter called "fit". it has 3 choices: fit, center and stretch. I think FIT: fits the image in the drop zone with the correct aspect ratio, CENTER: centers the image at it's original size, in the center of the drop zone, and STRETCH: stretches the image to fill the drop zone.
chose the one that fits your need. you can also make adjustments to the image in the properties tab after you have placed the image in the drop zone. hope this helps

  • Drop zone trouble

I just upgraded to iLife 08. I'm creating a DVD in iDVD 7 and when I put a picture into the drop zone it is off centered. In my previous version of iDVD (iDVD4), when I hovered over the photo, a hand print appeared which allowed me to center the photo in the drop zone. Does iDVD 7 not have this feature, otherwise how can I center my photos??
    Thanks for your help!!
