Photos: slideshow stops far too soon

Using the built-in Photos app, I ran my first slideshow this morning, on 312 photos. I was surprised that it finished well before it should. After further experiment I found that *on every occasion it stopped prematurely*. This was true whether Shuffle or Music was On or Off. The time it took depended on the time set for each slide, and was consistent:
Slide time: 2s, Total should be about: 10m 24s, Actual 1m 55s
Slide time: 3s, Total should be about: 15m 36s, Actual 2m 31s
Slide time: 5s, Total should be about: 26m, Actual 3m 44s
Anyone else get similar behaviour please? Some setting I've missed?

It looks as if it's due to some sort of file corruption. I'll try to
isolate it later.
But meanwhile, after eventually succeeding in syncing across some 1400
photos from iTunes, into half a dozen albums, I tried a new test. I
deleted all the photos in 'Saved Photos' then repopulated it (via Dropbox)
with 10 fresh ones (actually home brewed images of the numbers 1 to 10 so
that I could watch the count proceed).
Happy to report that the slideshow facility now works fine. There's a
consistent 12 second overhead for the initial fade-in and out and the
total time is therefore *12 + (K x N)*, where K is the set time per slide, and N
is the number of photos.
BTW, it seems odd to me that to set the time per slide you have to leave Photos and go to Settings > Photos.
Also, is it not possible to *rearrange the order* of photos in an album somehow?

  • Music/photo slideshow stops for no apparent reason, why?

I have two recent Apple TVs linked to Windows 7 on a blazing fast PC. On either ATV I can be watching a slideshow from iTunes and generally about 5 minutes into the show it 'disconnects.'  One fix is to restart iTunes but that isn't a fix because I cannot get through a slide show.  I have plugged, unplugged, reset routers, checked speeds, reesatblished connection with my WIFI server...so none of this has worked to keep the slide show active.
In fact, even when the slide show 'bombs' out I can go to iTunes on my computer and have music play on my sound system in the living room which indicates that the systems are connected.
I was using the ipad and iphone remotes and finally removed them from my devices when I read that they will interfere.  Really!?
    Any fixes or just commiserate...

  • Stop and start a photos slideshow

Hi .. So I want to use the photos slide show to execute a presentation .. But this means I need to start the slideshow and then stop, present the slide (a photo of the slide in fact), and then continue to the next photo .. I.e. I want manual control of the slideshow. Is this possible without having to stop and restart the whole slideshow?
    Thanks.
Btw keynote cannot handle my large ppt files, and photos/slideshow is the only other app I can find that outputs to the via and my tv/projector, hence I converted the talk to a jpeg and loaded it as a sequence of photos! It would be quite a lot easier if good reader could output to the VGA, or keynote display PDF files.

    Hi,
If you do the slideshow from the opening screen (Picture Frame), the iPad allows for no control other than stopping the show completely. If you run the slideshow from within the Photo app, if you stop a slide (you have to touch it and move it a bit to get it to stop), then the whole slideshow stops and you have to restart it again in the usual way. So Craig is right. Just put your presentation in an album, open the album and manually swipe to the next photo when you're ready. The only practical way to get the photos onto the iPad is to sync them to the Photo Library album (you can't sync to the Saved Photo album and you can only get pictures in there either from Safari or from email- unless I'm missing something), which means you'll be losing the ones that are already there. But that shouldn't be a problem if you just store them on your main computer and synch them back after the presentation's done.

  • My 6500A prints photos far too dark - how do I get round this????

My 6500A prints photos far too dark - how do I get round this???? I can't find any OBVIOUS way of controlling this.

Same problem with the same printer here.
When I send a photo from my phone (via ePrint) the result is not as clear as I would like.
In addition to settings for brightness, I would also like to know if it's possible to change the size of the printed photo. (if you print a photo from windows you'll get a wizzard that lets you choose from different sizes)

  • When viewing slideshow my photo playlist stops and randomly plays for a view seconds only

When I go to view a slideshow of photos the playlist I assigned to play either doesn't play or randomly kicks in during slideshow.  I have assigned several different playlist to my photo slideshow and they all do the same thing.  I am connected to a Mac.  No problems with pictures just my playlist.

When I say playlist I mean music playlist.

  • Links to slideshow stopped working on non .mac published site

I was helping my friend redo his website in iWeb. It was previously done in iWeb, and worked fine when published to a folder and uploaded to his verizon account.
Today, when we exported and upload none of the links on the photo gallery pages worked. Clicking a photo to enlarge it found a broken link, and the slide show stopped working too.
I thought I forgot to do something, so I uploaded the old version of the site. That stopped working, too.
    Am I missing something?

The Apple slideshow (the one built-in to iWeb) using the photo template is supposedly one of the ".Mac-only" features of iWeb. It uses some resources off the .Mac servers, so it probably won't work when the pages are hosted on other non-.Mac servers.

  • Photo slideshow app?...

    Hi all,
I'm after an app which can create some very simple photo slideshows, but with a few specific functions.
    a) I want to be able to change to the next photo manually by a click - I'm not interested in being able to set a certain time, but manually change it (more like with Keynote, for example).
    b) In addition to this, I was hoping to be able to animate some slides ever so slightly w/ a Ken Burns-style effect.
I've looked into the o obvious choices (i.e. iPhoto, Keynote), but they both come with some drawbacks for my needs:
I am unable to create a slideshow with which I can manually change the photos when I please - I can only set pre-determined times. This is because the Export format is a mov, so it'd clearly not be possible like this.
Keynote is the other option, as it does allow you to manually change slides/photos with a click. However, as I am after the ability to create a slight animation on some photos (a-la Ken Burns), Keynote has two really annoying features:
    1) Although it doesn't have a Ken Burns animation built in, you can sort of create your own. But for some reason, you are unable to loop this. This means that once the animation is finished, it will be motionless until I change the slide.
    2) If I purposely set the animation duration higher than it will need to be, I'm not able to interrupt that animation to move to the next slide before the animation duration is complete. This means that said slide could end up being on for too long.
One way around this, I have found, is to export a slideshow from iPhoto with just 1 photo in it, w/ the Ken burns effect. I can then import this movie into Keynote, and set that to loop. This way it will continue w/ the motion forever until I interrupt it (which is possible this way). This, however, seems extremely long-winded, and I'm worried about clogging the slideshow up with lots of large files.
I'm sure there must be a more suitable app out there, but I have so far failed to find it. Anyone have any suggestions?!
    Many thanks,
    Steve

  • Photo slideshows

    Ok, here's the problem.
I've put all my pictures in slideshows on iphoto and assigned them music. The music works fine with the slideshow on
apple tv but the slideshow skips through pictures too fast and the slideshow repeats.
These problems persist no matter what i try to do to change the settings. For example, i've tried changing the slideshow speed in the photo slideshow settings on apple tv but the speed does not change. I've also tried changing the speed in the slideshow on iphoto but again the speed of the slideshow does not change. Same goes for setting the "repeat" to "off." It just repeats anyway
Is anyone else having the same problems or is it just me??

Your probem sounds similar to what I was exeriencing with iPhoto Slideshows and my ATV. On my MacBook the music and slideshow played perfectly. On my ATV one slideshow plays fine, with others the slideshows ends, before the music is over and both stop out of sync. Checked all the settings on the slideshow that works, against those that would and everything was the same. Very strange....

  • Photo slideshows for iDVD - iPhoto or iMovie?

I posted before because I encountered errors when I created a DVD that incorporated photo slideshows and movies. The slideshows were created in iDVD and the movies in iMovie. The dvd was full, and on the one occasion that the burn was "successful", the photos for the menus were randomly re-arranged (and the audio for one movie was assigned to the wrong video). On other occasions, I encountered the dreaded multiplexing error (format error after 5 1/2 hours of encoding). I understand from some of your comments that my DVD is too packed (14 menus and submenus, 9 slideshows, 15 short movies) to encode properly. So I am starting all over and will try to simplify it this time. My question is: which application is best to make slideshows - iPhoto or iMovie? Is one application more stable than the other and less likely to encounter encoding issues? These photos and videos are from a 10 day family trip and I can't really eliminate anything but bells and whistles. Any advice is appreciated - I am grateful that there are so many experienced users willing to help novices like me.

My question is: which application is best to make slideshows - iPhoto or iMovie?
From what I read in the Apple Discussions and my own observations, it seems that both iMovie and IDVD, along with iPhoto, have their strengths and weaknesses. This is what I have found so far:
The default Ken Burns effect in iPhoto is much more pleasing than the one in iMovie. In iPhoto, the zoom and pan are varied; in iMovie, the effect is simply a zoom in. The iMovie Ken Burns effect can become very tedious when applied to a large number of photos. To vary the effect manually can also be a very time-consuming.
iMovie has the advantage providing a means to add text to the photos with a variety of special effects. I haven't found this option in iDVD. With iMovie it is possible to edit music. I have read a few posts that stated the iDVD will produce a better quality image when imported directly from iPhoto as opposed to one created by iMovie.

  • Creating photo slideshow in iMovie 09

    Hi guys,
I have been given the advice to create a photo slideshow in iMovie.
So far I have manage to sort out my photos and import them using iPhone and the Finder but am now up to the stage of putting the photos in the slide show.
There are quite a number of photos and I think by using the Ken Burns effect on every slide is a little overwhelming.
Is there any way I can use any of the other effects like just a simple fade-in?

AppleMan1958 gives you some good information. I have reviewed an earlier version of the slideshow feature of iPhoto on my website and have a short sample slideshow created using iPhoto.
Here is the link to my free photo slideshow software review of iPhoto.

I also provide information on creating a slideshow, choosing the music, etc.
    Good luck.

  • Glitch with playlist used for photos slideshow

Here is another interesting one - don't know whether people have noticed...
I have a mixture of smart and normal playlists. They appear on the nano in alphabetical order, unlike iTunes where he smart ones are always above the normal ones. I say this as context, because I suspect, but am not sure, that it is related to this...
When I select a playlist to use in a photo slideshow, I get the wrong one. If my playlists were numbered 1 to 7, and I select 4, I get 2. If I ask for 5, I get 3. I have exactly the right number of smart playlists above the one I want to cause this offset.
Going to test it properly later - in the meantime, anyone else notice it?

I get the same problem. There doesn't seem to be a pattern so far, so I just clicked and played until I found music I like... and left it there!
I guess there are worse problems in the world, but it would be nice to sync correctly.

  • Accidentally associated Adobe AIR file with Acrobat, now an otherwise easily fixed problem has been causing me far too much anger.

I accidentally associated an Adobe AIR file to open Adobe Acrobat in it's stead, now an otherwise easily fixed problem has been causing me far too much anger.
Basically I downloaded an .air file after recently reformatting my computer, and I tried to open it with Acrobat. Now, since there is no actual application and or shortcut created by AIR I can't just tell the file to use that. I've found that I'm not alone in this issue, have tried a few things I've read on both this forum and others, and have come to no resolution as of yet. This file isn't anything of any great significance, but it bugs me so much that at this point I just want to know how to fix this and win this little battle.
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

Thank JJMack - that has helped me get closer to the problem.
I opened the resource monitor and you can see a screenshot of what is going on when I try to save a simple, 9 Kb graphic. (I'm saving an RGB JPG, not a PNG or animated GIF file. Doing anything complex / memory intensive than saving or simple edits in PS is almost impossible.)
As you can see from the screencap below, when I save (it doesn't make a difference if it is save vs. save to web or a network or local drive) Photoshop becomes unresponsive. (From past experiences, if I try to switch to a non-Adobe program it will also freeze and sometimes crash.) When PS becomes unresponsive, the NT Kernel & System immediately goes to the top of the list and uses 200+ threads.
From there Photoshop will typically be frozen for about a minute, then will recover and take another minute or two to finish the save. At that point PS is okay, but the rest of the computer is still frozen with CPU oscillating up to almost 100%.
As soon as the NT Kernel & System settles down, everything is back to normal again (as long as I haven't used other programs, which in one case required a hard reboot.)
It is pretty clear the problem is rooted in Adobe / Window 7 as I only have this problem with Adobe programs. (Illustrator isn't as bad, but I've had problems with it as well.)
The question is: How do I fix this, as it is killing my ability to work?
    Thanks! Julie

  • IPOD 30GB photo slideshow

Hello. I've read much of the forum but 1st issue is the photo slideshow on my IPOD 30 GB. Downloaded pictures used to display full screen and scroll automatically. Perfect! Now the slideshow displays three tiny photos while scrolling. Have altered the settings to no avail. Am I missing something so simple?

    Hi almost, ;^)
I also bought my 30GB in March. I haven't had the problems you've seen though. Have you updated to the newest Updater, the one from this month (Sep)? I have read several people saying that they've had all kinds of problems when using this version. I believe this Updater is really only for the Nano. If you kept the previous one (from this summer) that has the 1.2 iPod version, try putting that one back on it.
As far as getting the computer to see it, try this:
    1) disconnect your iPod and Reset it,
    2) reboot your PC,
    3) don't start any programs other than iTunes,
    4) don't plug in anything other than your iPod.
Be patient - wait a few minutes and see if it connects. If not, try plugging the iPod into a different USB port.
