Photos stored in DVD-ROM section of DVD Slideshow

I have created a DVD Slideshow using 50 pictures from iphoto and I checked "Add image files to DVD-ROM" box. I have done this several years ago but am totally baffled as to to link these images to a button which will allow access to them from the finished DVD. HELP!

You can do this w/in DVDSP.
Did you already check out the iDVD Help Menu Procedure?
To create a slideshow in iDVD:
1. Click Media to open the Media pane, then click Photos to display your iPhoto albums.
2. Drag an album to the DVD menu. A button is created that links to the images. The button has the name of your iPhoto album and automatically displays the first slide in the slideshow.
3. If you want to change the button label, select the button and type a new name.
4. Double-click the button to open the slideshow editor.
5. The slideshow editor shows thumbnails of the photos in the slideshow. Drag the slider to change the size of the thumbnails, so you can see more slides at once, or fewer slides with more detail.
6. Add, arrange, or delete slides from the slideshow to create the sequence you want.
• To add other images, drag files or folders from the Finder to the slideshow editor.
• To reorder the images, select the slides you want to move and drag them to a different position.
• To delete an image, select it and choose Edit > Delete.
7. Click Settings and select the settings you want for the slideshow:
• "Loop slideshow" makes the slideshow repeat continuously until the viewer moves to a different part of the DVD.
• "Display navigation arrows" shows navigation arrows on the screen to indicate where the viewer is in the slideshow.
• "Add image files to DVD-ROM" adds copies of the slideshow images to the DVD disc so viewers can download them to their computers.
• "Show titles and comments" lets you add titles and comments to your slideshow images that are visible in the slideshow.
8. Click the Transition pop-up menu and choose a transition to smoothly move from one image to the next.
9. Click the Slide Duration pop-up menu and choose the length of time you want each slide to stay on the screen. Be sure to allow enough time for the transition you selected.
10. To let the viewer advance through the slideshow manually using a remote control, choose Manual.
11. Note: If you're adding a soundtrack, you don't need to set the slide duration.
12. To add a soundtrack, click Media to open the Media pane, then click Audio to find a song in your iTunes library or GarageBand that would make a nice background for the slideshow.
13. Drag the song or audio track from the Media pane, or from another location on your hard disk, and drop it in the audio well in the slideshow editor.
14. iDVD automatically adjusts the overall duration of the slides to match the length of the audio clip. The slide duration is changed to "Fit to Audio." You can change the duration if you want.
15. Drag the "Slideshow volume" slider to set the volume. You can check the volume when you preview the slideshow.
Note: When you add RAW images from iPhoto, the RAW files will appear in the slideshow as JPEG images. The RAW files are placed in the DVD-ROM portion of the disc if you choose that option.

DVD with program in the DVD-Rom section

I'm wondering if there are any issues or if anyone knows any better ways to basically have a DVD that both plays video on computers and set tops and also can have an interactive Flash program in the DVD-Rom section of the disc. I know how I would set it up and would have a non-executable program). I believe this would be a hybrid disc, correct? Are there any programs that might do it better than DVDSP? I know Encore has a Flash component, but don't know if that program would be better.
Anyone's experience would be helpful

You can put anything you want in the DVD-ROM. Flash, PDFs, whole applications, etc. The thing is that you cannot reliably access any of that from the DVD-Video. You need to tell people that there is additional content on the disc and that they need to get it themselves.

CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive reads DVD's but spits out CD's

Hi,
The CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive of my Titanium Pawoerbook doesn't read CD's anymore; it makes funny noises and spits any CD's out again. Funny thing is that I don't have any problems reading DVD's.
Is there anything I could do to fix this problem?

Try using a DVD drive cleaning disc first. Available in most PC shops.My Ti's Superdrive goes through phases of having a bad day making ugly cluncking noises and spitting discs out but the next day works just fine...

How do I remove an attached DVD-ROM file from DVD Studio Pro?

How do I permanently remove a file that was once built into a disc image in DVDSP?
I have a project that I frequently use to author DVDs. It has custom menus already created. Each time I author a new DVD, I simply replace the .m2v and .ac3 that are in track 1 (along with changing drop zones, chapter menus, etc). At some point along the way I had also included an attached DVD-ROM file in the disc image. Now I can't seem to get rid of it. Even unchecking the box in the inspector and in the build/format menu, it still shows up on the .img. When I deleted the file from the computer, it failed to build the .img.
Specs: I'm using the 2009 MacPro listed below, but using FCS2 on a Snow Leopard partition of the startup drive.

I had multiple copies of the disc image open. The latest one was correct. Never author DVDs when low on caffeine.

Link to web site in DVD Rom section - need icon aasociation

I have an internet shortcut in my DVDRom section of a DVD. I also have an .ico file there I want the " weblink" to associate with. The link works fine but I can't associate the icon with it.
I know how to do this normally, just go to properties and "change icon" then browse to the icon you want and select it.
But the way you chose the pre-defined directory in Encore for your Rom items only allows you to chose one directory and already have all your files in it.
That's great but once the link and the icon file are on the DVD they lose their association and the icon doesn't appear by the link.
Is there a proper syntax to use in "properties" to tell the web shortcut that it's icon link is in the same directory the link is in? Since there is only one icon file in there if it just looked for an icon file it would find it.
I imagine this is the kind of code I see often with zeros and percentage signs and 20 in them but I don't know what language that is or how to make a statement with it to look for the .ico file in the same directory the web shortcut is in.
I hope someone can tell me.
Also, I don't know if it's a bug or just my Encore 2.0 but on the "disk" page where you select your DVDRom contents, if you've browsed to the file selected it and then decide you don't want it, it seems you would highlight the chosen address and then hit the "clear" button right next to the "browse" button. I've tried that but nothing happens. It's like the "clear" button just doesn't work.
Any one else had that problem or am I just not doing it right?

A PDF is not a web page. You can't link to a PDF and expect it to display as HTML.
You could:
* Start from a Word document. The DynamicConverter component creates the HTML for a webpage and the InBoundRefinery component creates a PDF for download.
* Create a webpage content item that describes the PDF, use that as your secondary page.
* Change the link on the primary page so that instead of opening the PDF, it opens the content info page (only in contribution mode.)

Dvd rom rejected .. dvds work fine

Hello everyone i have a problem with my imac 21.5 inch (mid 2010) everything works fine all be it a little slow starting up. i use my computer for making music on logic pro 9 and general web surfing ..
when i watch the occasional dvd (originals not copies) the dvd works fine and loads using the built in dvd player ..
my problem has been since the mavericks upgrade, so whenever i insert a dual layer DVDR from a computer music magazine that has always worked fine in the past, the disc tries to load for several seconds, spinning then stopping, spinning then stopping .. then ejects
can anyone help with some troubleshooting please ? many thanks

it worked fine after a few attempts of taking the dvdr out and outting back in.. then worked fine whenever i tried to load again later yesterday evening.
then i try another music samples DVDR to retrieve samples from and i am experiencing the same thing again. this shoukdnt be happening. dvds work ok, music cds ok .. just dvdr

Oh - that's bad. It could be that your SuperDrive is failing. If you've an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider near you, you should take it in and have them take a look at it. It may be a simple mechanical problem that they can fix, or the drive may be dead or dying. I don't know what Apple's charging these days to replace a SuperDrive but you can often get an equivalent drive off the Internet and install it yourself. OWC has a number of solutions.

DVD-ROM contents missing

I created a .dmg (disk image) in iDVD containing a movie and a folder of photos in the DVD-ROM section.
I burned the DVD in Toast (8.0 I think)because it makes it so easy to do mass copies.
My .dmg when mounted on my desktop contains the folder of photos. I just assumed that they were making it to the burned DVD's. After burning 63 copies, I discovered that the burned DVD was MISSING the entire folder of photos that had been placed for DVD-ROM access.
Needless to say, I was VERY frustrated. It's too late to fix it now, I'm just giving them the DVD and telling them that the pictures are not on it like I thought.
However, I'd like to avoid this problem in the future. I did this last year with our end-of-year slideshow and it worked fine.
How could the .dmg contain the folder, but the burned DVD from the .dmg have it missing?

Yes, I do know that DVD-ROM contents are not accessible through the TV. I tried it in both a Mac and a Windows computer and the DVD-ROM contents were missing from both.
I'm 99% positive, that I burned the .dmg image the same way that I did last year. I burned it in Toast both years--last year's DVD-ROM contents burned fine, this year's didn't.
But thanks for trying to help. Hopefully, I'll figure out an answer. Maybe I'll find something in google.

DVD-Rom Access

I understand how to create a DVD-Rom section on a DVD. Is it possible to then link to the folder contents via a menu item on the DVD?
I have a folder with several PDF files in it on the DVD-Rom section of the DVD and I would like to put a menu link to the files so that the viewer knows they exist.
Is this possible?

Adding images files to DVD-ROM

By adding image files to the dvd-rom when burning my slideshow and movie. Can the photos be put on a desktop for printing after burn is done?

There's a nice option to add whatever files you choose to the DVD-ROM area using the command to Edit DVD-ROM. Here are instructions:

Menu link to DVD-Rom Content?

I am authoring a DVD using iDVD and I am wondering if it is possible to create a Menu link to files contained in the DVD-Rom section of the resulting DVD?
I have two Slideshow presentations and associated with each is a PDF Paper which I am including in the DVD-Rom section, but I would like to put a menu item on the DVD main menu that is entitled something like "Extras" that would allow them to see the files are available.
Or something similar...
Is this possible with iDVD?

From the "Getting Started PDF for iDvd"
DVD-ROM refers to the content you’ve specified to be added to the DVD-ROM
portion of your burned DVD. You can have a total
of 15 minutes of motion, such as video on buttons or in the background, in all
menus. A project can include up to 99 menus.
In general, the amount of content your iDVD project contains correlates to the quality
of your burned DVD, given the encoding setting you have chosen. The white arrow in
the Capacity meter points to the quality of your burned DVD. Quality is highest on the
green portion of the Quality meter. If you have chosen Best Performance as your
encoding setting, the entire Quality meter may be green.
Checking Project Files
All the items you added to your project appear in the Media portion of the window
with the path to their locations on your hard disk or elsewhere. If you don’t see the
table below “Media,” click the disclosure triangle to show it.
The Type column indicates whether the item is a picture file, audio file, or a video file. A
checkmark in the Status column indicates the item is present and therefore accessible
to iDVD. If you moved the file from its original location, you can see at a glance that it’s
missing because the checkmark will also be missing. This means that iDVD won’t be
able to access the file. If you notice an item is missing from its original location, you can
do one of the following:
Â Locate the item on your hard disk or connected server and return it to its original
location.
Â Remove the button that linked to the item.
Â Locate the file when prompted the next time you open the project.
Checking Your Project for Errors
If you begin to burn your project without checking it, a dialog appears, indicating if
there are errors in your project. This prevents you from creating a DVD that can’t be
played. However, it’s a good idea to check for errors before you begin to burn a disc.
The most thorough way to make sure your project works properly is to click the
Preview button and use the iDVD remote control to click all the buttons, view all the
menus, and view every video and slideshow. If your project is very large, this could take
some time. You can spot-check your project in less time using map view.
To check for errors:
1 Click the Map button to view your project in map view.
2 Look for warning symbols like the one below (they look like yellow yield signs) that
indicate a problem with a menu or with media you’ve added to you project.
3 Move the pointer over the symbol to see an explanation of the error.
4 Make the necessary correction and return to map view to see if the warning symbol is
gone.
5 To save your work, choose File > Save.

To manually add files to the DVD-ROM part of your disc:
Choose Advanced > Edit DVD-ROM Contents. The DVD-ROM Contents window opens.
Click Add Files, or click New Folder first if you want to create a folder to put the files in.
Browse to select your files or folders, then click Open.

Remove "Slideshows" from DVD-ROM

In Preferences I selected to have the images saved on the DVD-ROM. Now my slideshow is too big and I want to remove those images to free up space, but "Slideshows" is grayed out. Is there any way to remove them so they won't burn on the disk separately from the actual show? I am hoping I won't have to do the whole thing over after changing the option in Preferences.

I set up a test project and I, too, was unable to remove the "Slideshow" folder from DVD-ROM contents.
If you created your slideshow in iDVD, then to create a new iDVD slideshow project you would have to start from scratch. In my test project I was not able to drag the photos from DVD-ROM, or the slide show itself, to another iDVD project.
I never create my slideshows in iDVD, precisely because of the lack of flexibility and lack of editing options. For me it is much easier to create the slide show in iPhoto or iMovie, then export it to my desktop as a Full Quality Quicktime Movie, and drag that movie into the edge of the iDVD main menu window. It will import right in. That way if anything goes wrong, I can create a new iDVD project and drag the slideshow quicktime movie into the new project. I would still have to manually add any menu photos or menu music, but that's about it.

DVD ROM feature not working

I really don't know what I am doing wrong.. can someone please help?
I am trying to attach a pdf file with the DVD ROM feature.
I go to the outline tab and in the inspector I check DVD-ROM content..
then choose my folder with my pdf doc.
It is in a folder named "ROM"
The location comes up and it says it finds it..and that the doc took up 28MB of space....
I connect the DVD-ROM content with DVD@ccess.. entering in
file///DVDName/FolderName/filename
exctally as is.. but when I burn it, it doesn't work...
I am following everything to the T, but it doesn't work...
If I switch out the DVD-ROM name and put in a weblink it works perfectly.
I know that I am typing everything correctly spacing and spellng wise...
One interesting thing.. when i start the build and burn and turn on the DVD@access feature.. I choose the same path to the file, but it says that it isn't taking any space...
Also after burning the DVD .. it doesn't load up the Pdf file, but when I open the DVD manually.. the pdf file is there.. and when I open the file manually it does load up fine..
So what am I doing wrong so it doesn't load up when I click the button??
Hope this makes sense.. already wasted about 8 DVDs

Check that you are adding the document extension as well. The pathname is pretty much the main area where mistakes are made when linking to files on the disc. Is the file actually on the finished DVD? Open it in the finder and look for it there.
The system works in a quirky way (IMO) - place your PDF into a folder on your desktop called 'ROM' and place that folder into a different folder called 'disc content' (or whatever). In DVDSP, use the property inspector to point to the outer folder (the 'disc content' folder) and you will get a nice neat 'ROM' folder (plus contents) on your final disc.
If you are getting the file onto the burned disc, then the problem is in your URL. If you are NOT getting the file to the disc, then the problem is in the way you are setting this all up.
Check the URL is valid:
file:///discname/foldername/filename.extension
So, in the above example, if the file called 'document.pdf' is used on a disc is called 'Extras' the URL would be:
file:///Extras/ROM/document.pdf
Note that colon in the URL after the word 'file'.
Remember that I suggest placing the document into a folder called 'ROM'. You can, of course, use any other name you wish as long as it is a valid name.

DVD DL with a DVD-rom part

Hi,
With DVD SP 3.0.2, I'm trying to burn a DVD-DL, containing a DVD-video part (2,1 Go) and a DVD-rom part (4 Go). The layer is set to Dual and the Break Point is set to Automatic. DVD SP reports an error :
"Formatting Failed.
Formatting was not successful. A suitable marker could not be found in the required layer break range. See DVD manual for more information."
I think that the problem is that the DVD-rom part is bigger than the DVD-video one, and a marker can only be on the video part. As layer 0 needs to be larger than Layer 1, the break point should be on the DVD-rom part. DVD SP3 seems unable to do this. Does further versions of DVD SP can do it ?
I also thought of burning with Toast, but I don't think that Toast will include the DVDaccess function. Am I right ?

Do you have any markers in the video towards the end of the video? If not try adding one and seeing if that helps.
How big is the video? (size) Did you do a build? You could also add/duplicate the track and add chapter markers in there to force things if needed.
