Photos the question is why?

Foe some extraordinary reason Apple has decided to downgrade the previously very useful iPhoto. Photos is a bit like buying a new car. It looks nice, its shiny and comfortable and even has that nice new car smell. Unfortunately they took out the engine. Sure a lot of the features for sorting are still there although the layout in the toolbar is ridiculous, but the most useful aspects of iPhoto have all disappeared! Items like batch change and adjust date and time, but more astonishingly they have taken away everything under quick fixes, effects and adjust in the editing section. Its as if the whole thing has been dumbed down. Software with Apple is often great but this is truly poor. Somebody got this badly wrong.

Ok lets rephrase the question then, why doesn't USB Boot work???

So lets forget about reseting passwords. If for any other reason I want to boot my Lenovo laptop, which I very recently purchased, and there's even the option "USB BOOT" in BIOS, why will it not boot???
What's wrong? Shouldn't it boot from the USB drive if I inserted a bootable USB drive and restarted?

I bought a retina 15", but it will not make a network connection to my 27" iMac 2 feet away. The wifi is working fine on both units, but prefer to use ethernet cable on 27". The question is, why can I not ewstablish a network connection between the 2? Air

my desktop iMac 27". The odd this is, the AirDrop works fine, so they can obviously see each other over wifi.
Sometimes, when I launch network on the 27, I will briefly see my retina notebook attempting to connect, but after a few seconds, the notebook icon disappears until I relaunch. Then we can go thru the same exercise, ad nauseum.
Any suggestions?

Because the retina 15 only has a wifi connection (no ethernet), that's the connection I'm stuck with for the notebook. But on the 27iMac, I did have both ethernet and wifi enabled. When I turned the wifi off on the 27, therer was a brief moment when both computers were showing their counterparts when I tried to make a network connection. BUT, after a few seconds of 'searching', the computer I was trying to connect to disappeared from the Network list.
So I tried the opposite; the retina can only connect thru wifi, so that's a given. I swithched my ethernet off and then enabed the wifi on the 27 and ....same thing: When I try a network connection, there are a few seconds of 'searching', then the ony option I'm left with is share screen, which doesn't work either.
I've read the 'dropped' network is a problem with the retina, but the odd thing is that I never lose my internet connection—that continues to work fine, as does Air Drop—but I can't seem to connect, network-wise.
Any ideas about the dropped network?

A logical question about why we update firmware

just being real here
we all like the latest and greatest products, especially mobiles, and we all know they have their share of isues. but yet still we buy even though the device we owned previously worked fine or almost something like 90%.
the question is why do we buy these devices, then depend on firmware updates that sometimes improves speed, or maybe add a couple apps, but doesn't solve the bugs. why do we even bother to update. do we have to. if our phone is working ok, why go through the update process, lose all our installed apps, and then start encountering problems we never had before.
it is just a strange price we pay for technology. remember before firmware updates were available, our phones worked great. no worrying about wi-fi connection problems, or camera bugs, or widgets not loading, or phone constantly crashing and rebooting on its own. why can't we get a phone that works 100%, especially when we shell out up to $600us or sometimes more.
when i new update is released i am hesitant to go through it, but in the end still do. sad but true. so the question is, WHY?

That question is more philosophical than mobile-related I think. That´s how people work and that´s how our market system works. People always want to have the newest gadgets, the latest technologies etc. Sometimes they´re better, sometimes not, but whether a product succeeds in the marketplace is not always about quality.
Demand creates offerings. If there wasn´t any demand for newer mobiles, there wouldn´t be any.

Question on why LockMode.READ_UNCOMMITTED is waiting on read locks

We are running some load tests with multiple threads accessing our BDB. When we take a thread dump in the middle of the test we have noticed several of the threads waiting on a ReadLock even though we are using LockMode.READ_UNCOMMITTED.
The javadoc for LockMode states:
"With one exception, a record lock is always acquired when a record is read or written, and a cursor will always hold the lock as long as it is
positioned on the record. The exception is when {@link #READ_UNCOMMITTED} is specified, which allows a record to be read without any locking."
Our load test is performing only reads and there should be no writes happening at all.
So the question is why are still acquiring read locks? Is there some other configuration setting that we have that would override this or is the lock that we see in the thread dump a different lock?

The call to IN.latchShared you're seeing is not a record lock, it's an internal latch on a Btree node. Latching is not related to the lock mode. This latch should be held for a short time, but in cases where many threads access the same records (or a very small set of records), you will see waiting on latches. You can't disable latching -- thread safety requires it.

My account was hacked once so I won't put a credit card in and live with gift cards. Now I am getting hit for $20, two gift cards for ten each. I now question who and how people are making money?? Is my only solution, buy card, redeem code instantly, purchase item?

Why don't the questions as reported in forms match the order of questions on the pdf form used to collect the data?

I imported a PDF from for my survey. Then, I distributed it. People have completed it and the results have been submitted back to my FormsCentral account. The first two questions are text entry, then there are two 6 option multiple-choice questions before a 3 option multiple choice question. Why is it that in the report gives me results from four 6-option multiple choice questions before the 3-option question when there are only two? To make matters worse, the questions aren't coded with the text of the questions. They're coded cryptically, as are the responses. What the heck is going on and can I fix this?

"somewhat arbitrary" Does this mean there's actually some order to the way the results are being outputted? If so, how do I determine that order?
"from the user's perspective." Is there another perspective from which the actual (original/initial) ordering of the questions can be resurrected?
I'm not trying to badger. That's not my intent. You have a user here who is reading hope from your words, and I'm trying to distinguish between real hope and a nice way of saying "SOL."

If you have a dropbox account, there's a free app (probably more) that syncs photos to your dropbox account - picbox.
There's also PhotoSync that syncs photos to/from a number of different services and devices.

Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #1, Repair Permissions, followed by Option #4, Rebuild Database, if needed.

I have read all the questions regarding the "Can't send photo using iMessage". I followed everything and check everything that was in it. It's still the same. I am still not able to send a photo. It started happening last week. It was fine before that. There is no error message.
It will try to send but it will get stuck just before it sends
and the red ! will appear with the "Not Delivered" status.
When i tap on the !, it just says "This iMessage was not delived".
No other message or photo is sending as the same time as the photo.
I did reset it, I checked the email address, removed it as well. Turned it off then back on. Signed out and signed back in. Wi-Fi strength is very good. iOS is 6.0.1. I checked for updates, it is up-to-date I also checked a link http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2755. It did not help at all.

It is not a matter of reconsidering the decision. There are unsolveable technical problems with trying to run a program such as Firefox on Blackberry OS. We would need Blackberry to distribute a tool similar to Android's NDK to run on Blackberries.

How did you download? Have you been using the Import panel?
How is the pop-up selector for the "Raw+Jpeg" set?
If you are importing raw+jpeg pairs, and you set this to (Use Jpeg as original), then you will see a little J on the thumbnail, otherwise a R.
Or did ou import with Jpeg only?

Photo stream photos are only kept in photo stream for 30 days, although up to 1000 will remain on your device until you delete them. When you connect a new device to your photo stream it will only receive photos added in the last 30 days as the earlier photos are no longer there. Chances are, the missing photos were more than 30 days old.
If the missing photos are on another device, you could create a shared photo stream including the missing photos and invite yourself, as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99. You would see then be able to access the photos on your new phone. Another option is to import them to your computer (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083), then sync them to your new phone using iTunes.

Lightroom CC: In the Map module, why is the Map Tracklog"Auto-Tag Photos" choice inactive?

In the Lightroom CC Map module, the "Auto-Tag Photos" choice in the Main Menu > Map > Tracklog submenu is inactive (grayed out) when I try to tag GPS metadata from a tracklog to a selected photo. However, for the same tracklog and selected photo, the Auto-Tag 1 Selected Photo choice in the tracklog menu in the Toolbar is active and I can successfully tag the photo with GPS metadata from the tracklog using it. (Lightroom CC (2015) running on Mac OS X, Ver. 10.10.3). Can someone tell me why this might be?

Auto-tag greyed out - solution
1. Click on Start(Windows)+R in your Windows 8computer to open the Run Dialog box.
2. Type %appdata% in the Run Dialog box and hit enter.
3. Open the Adobe folder.
4. Open the Lightroom folder.
5. Open the Preferences folder.
6. And rename the file Lightroom 5 preferences.agprefs to Lightroom 5 preferences.agprefs.old
7. reopen the Lightroom and check if your issue has resolved.
