Photos too grainy!!

I have a lot of grainy pictures that I need to fix. What's the best way to make them sharper? I tried using the "Sharpen" feature but it made it look way worse. Thanks!

Julie,
Your problem is a very common one with digital photos. What you need is a noise filter. There are many on the market. Some have free download versions. I use Neat Image and Picture Cooler. Check out neatimage.com to see if they still have a free downloadable version. Picture Cooler was developed by a Dutch man and actually getting the filter involved, for me, many, many emails back and forth. We had a real language problem. But I think if you go to denoiser.shorturl.com you will do better than I did. Picture Cooler uses a different system than most noise filters--don't ask me to explain it--and is very good. I hope this is helpful to you. I am going to try both filters on your photo and see what happens.

  • Outline of objects in photos are grainy when viewed at 16.67% but not at 25%.  Messes up editing

    Hello,
I have recently been having this problem where the outlines of objects in photos is grainy at certain magnifications.  It only started recently and I haven't made any setting changes in Photoshop nor have I changed my monitor or video card settings.  My last photos were shot with an ISO of 400.  I always shoot in Raw and the photos aren't grainy in the Raw viewer.  The graininess isn't only visible at 16.67% but also at 33.33%.  But everything is fine at 25% and everything higher than 33.33%.  The problem is just that 16.67% is the best size to use while editing the picture.  The picture on the left is the same file just viewed at 16.67% while the right is viewed at 25%.
Any help would be very appreciated.

    What version of Photoshop?
If CS4 or CS5, do you have the OpenGL Drawing setting enabled (Edit - Preferences - Performance)?

  • On apple tv why are photos too large on slideshow

I set up album in my iphoto,
    selected it on apple tv
why are some photos too large and chopping off top of photos?

When you first sync photos to your iPod, or everytime you add new photos, iTunes goes through a process of optimizing your photos for the iPod before actually sync'ing. You can see it countdown on the screen. The results are kept in the "iPod Photo Cache" folder.
I was under the impression that this optimizing was more a process of collecting together 25 thumbnails and putting them together in a single file together so that it enabled the ipod to show 25 pictures at once with the option to select one.. Are you sure the thumbnails are actually altered in any way.

  • IPhoto to iDVD photos too light

I've burned photos to iDVD with moderate success in the past. My recent effort produces images that are much too light on my TV. Any suggestions apart from darkening all my images?

    Hi mreib:
    Just a few guesses here:
How do your images look on the monitor prior to importing to iDVD? What is the source of the photos? Photoshop? Jpeg? Pict?
Perhaps your monitor is not calibrated correctly making the processing of the photos too light once viewed on the TV?
    Calibrate your monitor

my new iPhone 5 is restoring photos too slowly. how do I speed it up?

I was using icloud and wifi. Strange thing happened, it took too long and DOUBLED the number of my photos and videos from 3500 up to 7000! Then I see double of every photo in my album! When I delete one, the other one turns up next and is OUT OF FOCUS and damaged!
I want to RESTORE all over again. I just bought this iphone 5 yesterday! Discouraging. Scary. I hope to find the earlier backup and not have this duplicate happen again.
    Thanks Razmee.

  • There is any way to see your photos on iCloud. It can be Whatsapp and other apps photos too. Help me to find out?

You can browse it a little more easily with TextWranger. You can also search it:
    http://homepage.mac.com/bagelturf/aparticles/library/libtw/libtw.html
See what happens when you restore a vault:
    http://homepage.mac.com/bagelturf/aparticles/vaults/vrestore/vrestore.html
It actually renames your existing library and creates a new one.

I took a 6 minute video and it's too grainy. Is there any way at all to reduce the grain? Or am I out of luck?

Yes, you have lots of alternatives.
    1.  Got to somewhere like Google docs and create a comment and feedback form, that can be inserted onto your site via the html snippet.  You can also take a look at http://www.jotform.com.  Whenever someone completes the form, you will be e-mailed with all the info.
    2.  Use a comment system like http://www.intensedebate.com.  Very good and the comments will be displayed on your site and you will be e-mailed when someone comments and you are able to accept it or reject it in this way.
    3.  Go and create a blog elsewhere, like http://wordpress.com or if you have hosting, then try http://wordpress.org.  You can load this on your server with no problem and then create comments here, so in your iWeb site you either create a link to your blog or you can display your blog as an iframe in your iWeb site using iframe code.
    4.  As far as hit counters go - there are many.  Just do a Google search for hit counters - http://www.hitcounterexpert.com and there are hundreds more.
Perhaps Apple keep blog comments and hit counter as MobileMe only to encourage people to use MobileMe rather than external servers.  However, we can only speculate on that!

  • Photos look grainy

When I add still shots they look really grainy on my PC. Is this normal?
A photo in particular is 1.68MB so it's not like it is small.

    I thought Larger was better.
With respect to print work, it is. Using the "way-back machine," I used to shoot everything from full-page up on 8 x 10. Then, I dropped back to 4 x 5. When digitizing my film became an option, I'd always opt for 1000ppi scans as a minimum and just work from monster files. Nowadays, most of my still work is done on a 12 megapixel camera.
Now with Video, we are constrained by the output size. [Similar happened when images were earlier used for Web work. Download times, and the display setups of users of the Internet dictated much smaller images.] If one is outputting to DVD, then either the NTSC, or PAL, sizes become the target. Shooting at the camera's highest possible resolution is still good advice, but one must find the ultimate method to get the images down to usable size.
There are basically two ways to do this (one does have some variations). One can let the NLE do the work. Most are pretty good at this, but there are two problems: NLE's are designed to work with Video and not really to process still images - the quality suffers when resizing; like the bandwidth limitations of large images on the Web, computer resources are directed to processing these large images. Because of the former, I recommend using an image processing program, like PS to do the resizing. They are designed to do just this - handle still images in the best way possible. Also, one is now only processing that one image, not a Video of it, made up of many smaller images. Basically, you're processing one frame and not 30/second of Video. The algorithms used by an image processing program are better, more accurate and more efficient, than those used in an NLE.
If I can achieve better quality and also lower the resource load on my computer, I view this as a win-win situation. As PS (and PSE) has Actions to "script" operations, I can batch process all of my still images in a few brief moments for use in Video. It takes me far longer just editing out the images that I will not use, than it does to process 1000 for use in a Video.
Travel safely, and let me know how the quality looks, when you do the resizing outside of your NLE. Remember too, the Program Monitor in about all NLE's is just an emulation, a preview, if you will, of what that image will look like on a TV. For critical judgement, I strongly suggest doing a DVD RW (if one is going to DVD), and playing on a set-top player, hooked to a TV. If one only views on the Program Monitor of the NLE and on their computer screen, then I strongly recommend that the settings in the Program Monitor be set to High/Highest Quality, not Automatic, and the Magnification be set to 100% and not to Fit. Also, if the NLE indicates that the footage needs to be Rendered (red line above the footage in most NLE's), Render it first. Otherwise, with an un-Rendered Clip, the Program Monitor set to Automatic and Fit, it's a bit like trying to judge the quality of a photograph by looking only at the thumbnail of that photograph. You can only get a rough idea of the content of that photograph and can really make no judgement on its quality.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How can i export music from my computer to my ipad without exporting Photos too?

on iTunes, click on the iPod in the devices column.
Find the music button above the picture of the iPod and click it

Then click the sync button in the bottom right hand corner when you have made your selections

  • I didn't sync my new iPhone 5 to a computer before using it, now that I want to it says I have to delete everything, does it mean just my music or apps and photos too?

After using my new iPhone 5 for a few months I tried to sync it to my computer but it said I had to wipe it first, I don't know if it means everything or just the music. Half of my music transferred to my iTunes library and the other half I can get through iCloud so it's the apps and photos I'm worried about. Will they be wiped too? If so, how do I transfer the photos I took before activating photo stream onto my photo stream? I'm going away on vacation tonight so please answer ASAP! Any help appreciated, thank you!!

The iPhone will only sync potentially copyrighted information from one computer, music, movies, and photos (synced to the iPhone from a computer). It will not delete the photos you have taken on the iPhone, which are in the Camera Roll.
To sync everything to your computer, take a look at this Apple doc -> iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
See this for help setting up iCloud -> Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices.
    Have fun on your vacation!

  • Photos too large on face book

The new OS on my I pod touch current gen and current FaceBook Inc app has started making my photos on FB my Timeline too large, any ideas?. John

I have tried everything from deleting the app, deleting the app and logging out of Facebook from the settings, to looking for updates and info on the 'net and NOTHING.  This is not happening to everyone though.  I went to an apple store to see if they had some insight and two employees I spoke to couldn't offer any real solutions except for what I had already tried.  It is only on the iPod Touc, not the other devices.

  • IOS 4.2 issue, or App issue? Photos too large.

I spent two weeks in Japan, taking photos on my DSLR, and uploading them via SD card into the camera connector to the iPad. All worked fine.
I ran Photoshop Express and iOS3.2 (can't remember if it was 3.2.1 or 3.2.2), and was able to edit all the photos, and upload them to FaceBook, and all was well.
Since I've been back, I installed the iOS4.2 update, and an update to PS Express.
Now, all of the photos (including ones I had previously edited) cannot be edited in PS Express, it gives me a message "This photo is too large to be viewed".
Similarly, I've tried another program called Fluid FX, which either gives a similar message, or just crashes.
I've made sure there are no other apps running, have tried a hard reset, and nothing has helped.
I'm wondering if anyone might have any insights before I try downgrading back to iOS3 (and get back my orientation lock button, yay!).
(and yes, it seems another solution is just to take lower resolution images on my camera, but who wants to do that?)

I thought I had updated PS Express for iOS4, but checking the app in iTunes says:
    # Updated: 29 September 2010
    # Current Version: 1.3.2
    # 1.3.2 (iOS 4.0 Tested)
which is before the iOS4.2 release.
Fluid FX has been updated for iOS4.2

  • Photos too big for Flash, what can I do?

    Hi,
I have tried all the different Formats of Photo and bringing them into Flash, but they are still too big, causing Flash to crash and meaning I am unable to upload my website to my server. I think i remember being told you could use a preloader. But still being quite new at Flash don't know how to being.
Or is there another way anyone can think of?
    Please Help, client waiting!
    Cheers
    Tom

    Hi,
I think what you need to do is bring your image into Photoshop. Select > Image Size > Choose 72 PPI which is a good size for the internet. Now go to File> Save For Web. In there it will give you options on how to optimize your image for the web. Just save it as a Jpeg if you want and then import into Flash library.
    Hope this helps!

  • Iphone 5 photos too dark

My photos seem too dark. Have tried photos with "auto", "on", and "off". All seem too dark.

its not the settings, my wife dropped it into the sink while washing hands.. The phone did not get soaked but it got a little wet. Waited a couple of days so it would totally dry out and started it up which it did with no problem. The only thing is that the screen is very dim, I tried the settings and its all the way up...
Thanks for your response, let me know if you know of anything else I can try..
    thanx again

  • Photos too dark in PE 7

    I've recently updated from PE4 to PE7.
Photos I've uploaded to PE7 appear too dark. When I lighten them up they appear to light (underexposed) in
other Photo programs...including my old PE4. Same happens when I send the edited photos via email to others.
I'm using Vista 2 with all updates.
    Jack Mac

    Thank you for your message.
I take most of my photos with a Canon Rebel XT but I also use a
Canon SD1100IS but the result in PE 7 is the same.
    Always JPG format.
After taking the photos I download them to a 300MB internal Hard drive.
I then open PE 7 in the Quick edit mode. Before I make any adjustments
is when the photos show up dark. The photos usually (using PE 4 for
    instance) need very little adjustment.
To lighten the dark image in PE 7 I adjust using under "Lighting" the
slider "Lighten Shadows". I adjust that until it appears about right.
    Then I save it.
Now if I email that to someone and they look at it, it's too light...like
underexposed. It's the same after I've saved it and I open it in PE 4
or another photo editing program.... it's still too light.
The computer is a Dell XPS 420 with 3 GB of ram and an Intel
Core 2 Quad 2.4GB processor. Vista SP 2 is the operating system.
I was completely happy using PE 4 but decided it was time to update.
Thank you for attempting to help.
