  • IPhoto and photos wanished from MacBook Pro with OSX10.9

iPhoto and photos wanished from MacBook Pro. Apple just offer to buy iPhoto.
The laptop was baught in 2010 with OS X ~10.6. Now it has OS X 10.9. I do not know how to recover the application and files.
    Thanks for your help

If iPhoto came pre installed then go to the App Storel, sign in with the Apple ID you used to purchase the MBP or register it.  Go to the Purchases section and you should be able to download it again at no charge.

How do you transfer videos from Macbook Pro to iPad mini?

Take your file and use handbrake to convert the video file to m4v to play in iTunes then sync to iPad Mini

  • Transfer photos/videos from MacBook Pro to External Hard Drive (not iPhoto)

I've read all the other threads regarding how to transfer photos from iPhoto to an external hard drive (i.e., format your EHD to Mac OS Extended (Journaled)), however, I do not believe my situation applies.
In short, I download new photos/videos from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro twice - in two distinct methods.  The first method (and the one I favor) is to use the Preview Application to download photos to the MyPictures folder.  Once this is done, I revise the name of each photo so that I can tell not only the date but also the event.  Once this is done, I then also download the same photos to my iPhoto Library via iPhoto but I don't make any revisions to the file names (I don't know why I continue to download photos into my iPhoto Library since I don't like iPhoto, but I guess I feel like it is a "backup" of sorts).
My problem now is that my internal hard drive is filling up and I must transfer some photos to an External Hard Drive (EHD).  I thought the simplest solution was to transfer my iPhoto Library since I don't really use it anyway and many people advise to simply format my EHD to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  However, if I do that, my understanding is that I will not be able to then transfer the files to a PC, if I decide in the future to do so.  The solution, as suggested by others, was to then format my EHD as "ExFAT".  However, if I do that, my understanding is that iPhoto will not function properly.
So my questions include the following:
    1.  Is there any harm in simply deleting my entire iPhoto Library from my internal hard drive to free up space since I believe I have been downloading all my pictures in a separate location anyway (MyPictures folder)?  Or will deleting my iPhoto Library somehow delete these other photos (even though they are not named similarly)?
    2.  If I decided that transferring my iPhoto Library to a Mac OS Extended (Journaled)-formatted EHD was the best solution, what would my options be if in the future I wanted to transfer the photos to a PC?  Is that option lost forever?  Or could I somehow transfer the photos from the EHD to the MacBook Pro, then re-format the EHD to ex-FAT, copy back the photos from the MacBook Pro to the ex-FAT-formatted EHD and then transfer the photos/videos to my PC?  Is there an alternative better solution?
    3.  Any other suggestions?
    Thank you

1 - no - if you do not like or use iPhoto then yu have no need for the iPhoto library - it is sefl contained and deleting it will not affect anything except iPhoto
2 - you can export photos form iPhoto to any format drive - it is only the iPhoto library that has drive format restrictions
Reformatting a drive totally erases it so you can not simply change the format of a drive without removing everything on it
3 - deciede what you want  - if you use iPhoto then it has no cross platform capability and nothing you do in iPhoto is directly of use on a PC - you have to export from iPhoto to a volume that a PC can read
Since you do not like or use iPhoto and it will not do what you want I have no idea why you are messing with it at all

  • How do I use iSync to share info from MacBook Pro to Nokia 6822 (TMobile)?

Hello! I just got a new MacBook Pro and a new cell phone - a Nokia 6822 (currently I have TMobile Cell Service). I saw at this address: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html
that the Nokia 6822 is an iSync compatible device.
Sorry for such a novice question - can somebody direct me what this means for me? Can I keep a To Do List & calendar appointments on my MacBook Pro that transfers to my phone? If so, HOW DO I DO THIS?
Can I update To Do list using the keypad on my Nokia 6822 and then sync that data back to my MacBook Pro too? How?
I'd love comments from people who use this technology and what you think of it, too.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.83 GHz Processor, 512MB DDR2 SDRAM Memory

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
In Mac OS X, contact information is maintained in the Address Book and event and task information in iCal. iSync is used to synchronize this information with a mobile handset like your Nokia 6822. To enable this service, you must pair your mobile handset with your computer using Bluetooth, accessible from the Bluetooth pane of the System Preferences application.
Once paired, you enable synchronization by launching iSync and selecting the Add Device… option under the Devices menu, then configure your synchronization parameters by pressing the mobile handset icon—which appears in the main window of —to drop down a pane in which you select the individual synchronization parameters for your device.
There is a Help file accessible in iSync which explains how all of this works.

I used to store films from my Pc to an iomega HD multimedia, now I have this MacBook Pro and I can't transfer films to the same Hard Drive. Does it have a specific formate just to be used in a PC ?

  • Super SLOOOOW file transfer from MacBook Pro Retina to Time Capsule over WiFi - why?

So I have been having a search around and it seems like the advice for folks complaining about ludicrously slow wifi transfers from their Mac to their Time Capsule is... to do it wired.
As you may know, the MacBook Pro Retina does not have a cable Ethernet port. So I have to buy a Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet adaptor (and a cable if I don't already have one) just to perform this basic task? Seems hard to believe.
MacBook wifi is showing as connected via 802.11n to the Time Capsule and the link speed is showing 217 Mbps in Network Utility.
So why is it so slow?

Thank you, LaPastenague - very complete answer!
How is the old NAS connected to the TC?
What actual speed are you getting?
It is important that when you select an option you stop other options from interferring.. ie.. turn off wireless when you do ethernet.
First, I had the NAS connected to the laptop (Dell XPS M1710, Win7 - (yeah, I know, but it does the job, still)) via USB, which generated about 900KB/S r/w speed,
then I tried connecting it via LAN to TC, but didn't succeed in getting TC recognize the drive,
lastly, I connected it via the USB port directly to the TC, and got ~900KB/S r/w speeds again.
In all scenarios, the laptop was connected via LAN as well (TC's WiFi was not disabled, though).
Then I read the above thread and tried finding DHCP settings. Found them in the "internet settings" in the airport utility, but not in the "dive settings", so I didn't know what to change there.
Strangely, the only thing that I changed was the TC-name, taking away a hyphen and a space (from "myname's TC" to "mynamesTC"), which resulted in faster r/w speeds, going from the 900KB/S to 1.5MB/S (still not what I expected).
Also that any copying of files will be a loop, old NAS--Computer.. Computer--TC
Got it. Tried to provide a faster connection by directly connecting old NAS to TC via USB, but makes sense.
Each connection is just as impportant as the other. Plus you can see the computer must handle every packet in a double hop tx, rx tx rx for each one. So using gigabit all the way is vital.
Will try again connecting old NAS to TC via GB-LAN, and have it recognize it, and provide and update here.
This is best done in full isolation from internet.. just setup so you can do the copy overnight.
I was planning on doing several actions of moving files in a session of re-organizing, and am not really keen on waiting 4-6hrs between each step. The old NAS shall host all videos later, as it is recognized by the PS3 when connected via USB, while the TC shall host all photos and music, which I am rather accessing from the laptop's itunes.
And also to realise lots of very small files can copy extremely slowly.. no matter how fast the connections are.. it is heaps of small files that cause copying to take forever because files are written to the disk and then file allocation tables are filled in for every one. It is why a backup is much faster as files are compressed into single large file. Or like TM using 8KB bands where the file ends are handled differently to normal disk.
That will have added to the slow-ness of the session last night, as I was copying 25GB of photos which took 6hrs (***). So that would have been faster if I compressed them to .zip before moving? (not because it reduces size, as it barely does, but becuase it puts many small files into one big one?)
Just moved a 164MB vid from laptop to old NAS (which is still connected to TCs USB port, while laptop to TC via WiFi): result: 1minute40secs @ 1.70MB/S.
Then moved same vis from laptop to TC: 1minute55secs @ 1.80MB/S (gaining write speed slower that old NAS, therefore taking longer despite higher final speed).
So, is there any further improvement / setting that I could change (DHCP / NAT) to get to higher r/w speeds, like the 6.75MB/S quoted above?
    Thank you again! MFP

  • Icloud stopped backing up (froze really) photo library from macbook pro

Recently bought a new macbook pro retina and enabled the icloud for storing my photo library (roughly 14,000 pictures)  Set things up about 5 days ago.  In icloud it shows album/event names but no pictures are loaded up.  On computer it says icloud backing up photos (notes 11,000 photos) - I tried pausing and restarting but is stuck at that 11k number for days now.  Perhaps I need to re-do but not sure how to do that... Help?!  Thank you

    Hi!
Unfortunately, the upload resource on Photos is ***! 14K pictures, you'll suffer.
I have only 1000 photos (oldest pics, I keep in another cloud service) and the upload was so slow and confusing.
The my tip for you is deactivate the iCloud Photo Library in all your devices and restarting again by the one them! Or, you can reduce the number of photos you desire to upload to cloud.

  • Please help: Transferring contacts from Macbook Pro to Nokia 5530

    Hello,
I used iSync to transfer my contacts from my Nokia to OS X. However, I am not able to do the other way around!! I want to transfer contacts from my macbook to my phone, what am I missing?
    Thanks

I have 5230 Nuron, what Nokia do you have?
Did you install the iSync plugin for your Nokia model? They can be downloaded from Nokia's European site
My plugin in iSync allows me to either merge data on both or erase Nuron and overwrite it with data from my Mac. Calendars and Contacts

  • Slow photo streaming from Macbook Pro to new Ipad

How is it that I can stream 1000 photos in minutes with a Mac Book Pro to an Iphone but it's literally taking all day to stream less tha 300 pictures from a mac book to the new Ipad?
Anyone have any comments on this?

I wasn't saying there was anything wrong with the file, just that when you compare performance to other things you stream, you need to remember it probably uses 2 to 3 times the bandwidth on your network.
Have you looked for interference, Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • File transfer from MacBook Pro into external hard drive

I can't copy files from the MacBook into an external hard drive.
In the 'Get Info' section, it says read-only. However, the hard drive have just been recently bought.
I had the same problem with our previous hard drive. Although the previous hard drive was 'read-only' I was able to copy and paste files in our old HP laptop.
What can I do in order to copy and paste files from the MacBook into the hard drive?
    Hard drive = Toshiba
    Capacity = 1TB

In my last paragraph, I said
"Note that Windows PCs cannot write natively to an HFS drive, so if you need to exchange files between Mac and PC, we need to talk about different options."
Windows cannot read Mac Extended (HFS) formatted drives; the Mac cannot write to Windows (NTFS) formatted drives.
The only formats fully compatible between Mac and PC are FAT32 (largely deprecated) and exFAT. If you need full read-write compatibility between Windows and Mac, and you can erase the drive (ie, it's a new drive or you have confirmed backups), reformat to exFAT using Disk Utility.
If you have a drive with files on it and you cannot erase them at the moment:
    - if the drive is formatted for the Mac, you can purchase MacDrive for the PC
    - if the drive is formatted for Windows (NTFS), you can purchase Paragon NTFS for the Mac.

  • Moving Music from Macbook Pro to Nokia

I was wondering - I just got a Nokia 6126 that plays music. If I got a MicroSD card, using Bluetooth, would the card just mount on my desktop and I would then be able to copy music to it.

If you get a microSD card, you need the card reader. They're fairly inexpensive and you can get one on amazon.com if you like. I have an LG phone and it works fine with mine. I suggest one by iogear. I have the Iogear GFR201TF USB 2.0 Pocket Memory Card Reader/Writer which is specifically for mobile phones. It didn't work for me right away, I had to plug it in a few times before it recognized, but it works fine now.
With the card reader, it would show up on your desktop and you could copy music to it (and pictures as well).

Are your photos housed in the iPhoto app on the Mac? If so, then hook up your device, click on the Photos tab in the Device Profile Screens to the right, select what photos you want sync'd, and then sync your device to iTunes.
